I have Vivint on both of our homes. I'm going to share my honest experience with their services and the value it has provided for me and my family so far. Note also - that Vivint is a premium home security. I've had Vivint service now for about 5 years. I pay about $40 for the monthly service and about $55 with our second home (service and financed device together) that is all inclusive of their 24/7 monitoring and free customer support including tech. This does not however, include their devices. That is separate. You can either buy them out right, or Vivint will finance for you at zero interest with qualifying credit. Their devices are not cheap and as I noted they are a premium home security, but they are reliable. I love their smart hub. It's easy to operate, fully touch screen and very little learning curve. Even my Mom and Dad had no issues using it including their smart app on their phone and tablet. Just a heads up, Vivint does require a minimum of 5 year contract. After that, you will be on a month-to-month. For some, this might be a deal breaker. However, if there's one thing I can honestly say about Vivint, they really do have excellent customer service support. It's like having a white glove service. Whenever I have a problem, I just call their customer service or tech support, and I get someone right away with very little wait. They are very responsive. Just this week, I had a tech come out and serviced my outdoor camera. There's one downside, they recently changed (as of April 2023) their home tech visit policy which used to be complimentary as long as it is Vivint owned devices. Now it's either pay a $99 per visit, or pay an extra $10 a month insurance fee which will include free, unlimited tech visits. So now you're going to pay somewhere around $50 a month or more or about $600+ a year. That comes out to about $1.65 a day or less than a cup of small coffee at Starbucks. I understand with so many options of DIY and lower monthly monitoring fees and some comes free, why did I go with Vivint? It's hard to put a price on peace of mind, but for me and my family, I chose Vivint for the hassle free knowing they have our backs 24/7. I also didn't want to deal with having to install devices on my own and prefer the knowledge of their expert technicians. At the end of the day, Vivint is not perfect but they do come close to it from my years of service with them. Best of all, I get a discount from my homeowner insurance by having their service. Well, what can I say, this company, sales staff, installation, customer service, and equipment all suck. The salesman, Mihir, lied extensively to make a sale. The installation is not professional at all. The customer service will basically accuse you of lying about the information discussed. When a manager attempted to call me about my request to cancel under the misleading terms and conditions, it was all smoke and mirrors. More lies. The value for the equipment and support is just not worth it. The company lost a large lawsuit and more than likely end up in court again. They're already on the FTC and SEC's watchlist. All around shady company with less than desirable equipment and reputation. Would never recommend this company for home security. read more

The rates are high and the company will keep raising them. If you decide to cancel after the contract ends? It is very difficult to get out of their so called contract that will never run out or end. Especially after being a customer for nine years they still told me after hours on the phone that I was under a current contract and needed to pay an additional $400.00 plus fees to cancel! This is a very dishonest company in my opinion be weary if dealing with them after I paid and cancelled, two months later, they started billing me again for new services. I would give less than one star if I could. I initially contacted Vivint only to ask about taking over the alarm system at a property I was considering buying. I ended up not purchasing the property and therefore had no need for their services. After that, Vivint (calls from Provo. Utah), began repeatedly calling me. When I finally answered and explained to the representative that I was not buying the house, already had an alarm system, and had no interest in switching, she continued trying to sell me the service anyway. I politely asked multiple times to be removed from their call list, but she ignored my requests and kept pushing the sale. After asking three separate times for the calls to stop, I finally had to hang up on her. The entire experience felt aggressive and harassing. After reading other reviews, it seems this is a common complaint with this company. I honestly do not understand how they stay in business with this type of customer treatment. If I could give Vivint zero stars, I would. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing from start to finish. The sales person misrepresented the services, pricing, and contract terms. The sales process felt extremely deceptive. The representative who came to our home was pushy and, frankly, dishonest. I told him multiple times that I couldn't afford the system, yet he kept returning with lower prices, which immediately raised red flags about how inflated the original offer must have been. I should have walked away at that point but did need a security system. He also tried to upsell unnecessary equipment, and although we declined, he still slipped in a monitoring device for the backyard that we never agreed to. We didn't catch it until it was too late. One of the biggest issues is the contract. We were led to believe that if we moved, we could cancel or transfer the service. Fast forward 18 months--due to unforeseen circumstances, we're moving into an apartment where we don't need the system. Now we're being told we're locked into a 60-month contract with no option to cancel. That was never explained; we were told we could cancel. To make matters worse, the salesperson rushed through the entire presentation and barely reviewed the contract. When it came time to sign, it was just "initial here" over and over. He claimed his tablet wasn't working properly and couldn't show us the full agreement, saying we'd receive it by email later. By then, of course, it was too late. After the sale, the rep completely disappeared--he wouldn't answer calls or return messages when we tried to follow up with questions. The installation was no better. The technicians seemed inexperienced, and the work was sloppy. There are large holes in the wall behind the panel in our hallway, which will require repair if the system is removed. Overall, this experience feels like a scam, and based on what I've since seen and read about Vivint, it doesn't appear to be an isolated case. I have been a Vivint customer since 2018. When I called to cancel my monitoring subscription, I was transferred between 8 representatives over the course of nearly an hour. Every time I stated clearly that I wanted to cancel, I was placed on hold and either transferred again or disconnected. No manager was made available despite multiple requests. My cancellation was never processed. This is not an isolated service failure -- it is a deliberate obstruction strategy designed to prevent customers from cancelling. Do not trust this company with your security. Aside from the constant frustration with the equipment and the app, there are some serious ethics concerns with this company. One of their sales reps came to my house to sleep with my wife and was complicit in her unplugging the security panel in the hopes that I wouldn't see her sneak him into the house for three and a half hours. I reported him to their ethics department, and they've done nothing since it was reported on Mar 22, 2026, it's now Apr 8th. They initially said I should check for a response after 4-5 days, so after 5 days I wrote asking how long before I should see the results from their investigation and they haven't ever responded to that question. read more

NO STARS FOR THIS. this equipment is lousy. does not work. i have been putting up with the faulty equipment. in fact in oct 2025 i contacted them numerous times regarding faulty equipment. i told them until they get it fixed i was going to dispute thebill. the person said ok. i disputed the charges. then on oct 28th they charged me 64.plus and then on october 31 they charged me over 121.00. this was done without my authorization. i get Loousy attituded out of them. they gaslight me. they are lousy we have been looking at other security. If there were a negative star option, I would start there. How about a security company that knows their security equipment isn't working, fails to notify you or question why, and continues to steal your money from your bank account!! We have been fighting for TWO YEARS to get our money back. We finally got someone to listen to us in August to at least stop taking payments for services they are not providing, and tonight we were contacted by them, for what we thought was the promised call on how to proceed to get our refund, instead it was to buy a new system, and when we refused, they told us we had to speak with collections about our past due account. They stopped the payments for us because we cancelled with them, and had tried to do that for 18 MONTHS and now they claim they are still providing services for something that hasn't been connected to our wall since 2023!!!! They also said paper work was required to cancel services- the first person to say that after speaking to 7 different people before him. Our defunct landline was how they would normally contact us. Now they have our cell numbers, and because of this, they think we are receiving services through some APP that we do not have, never signed for or approved, and we were told that our system was so obsolete that it wouldn't work with it anyway. So, go figure! The manager was a freaking coward and wouldn't even get on the phone with us. I filed a complaint with the BBB and have obtained a contract lawyer. Don't do business with them. I signed up with Vivint on August 30, 2025, but quickly realized the service wasn't right for me. The contract itself states: "You, the buyer, may cancel this transaction at any time prior to midnight of the third business day after the date of this transaction. Many people on the BBB, Trustpilot, and Reddit describe the exact same issues: long hold times, misleading promises, billing during cancellation "processing," and aggressive tactics to keep you locked in. The Better Business Bureau has thousands of complaints, and the FTC even penalized Vivint for deceptive practices involving credit reports. 1. The installation technician drilled a 1-inch hole in the wall in plain view in the living room and left it without trying to patch it. 2. All 6 of the smoke detectors and both of the CO detectors were chirping with weak batteries withing 4 weeks of installation. 3. Motion sensor fell off the wall 2 months after installation and triggered the alarm. Customer service charged $99 to fix their own faulty installation. During installation they stuck 3 other sensors on the walls with cheap adhesive. I expect them to fall soon as well. read more

They would talk to me for 5 minutes then on hold for 15. Try to convince me again not to cancel, then put me on hold for 30 minutes. Hung up called back, put on hold again. Now they just disconnected my call. Tried going through the chat bot online and they said I had to call the same hot line I was on hold for. No option to cancel on line. This company has become a nightmare, they just don't accept when you want to cancel the service it doesn't matter if you don't have a contract. I have been trying to cancel the service since the contract ended and the last time I spoke to someone instead of cancel they send me an email saying that my contract was extended for another year, since then they're been calling every day asking me for my monthly payment. Below is my cancellation for Vivint's service. As a customer of 7 years, I can say without hesitation that their customer service is the worst that I experience. For context, this written cancellation was required in Vivint's small print, which also states my cancellation will only be processed after 30 days--enough time for them to receive one more payment from me. To whom it may concern, I am responding to an email and document provided by a member of your customer service team for purposes of cancelling my account with Vivint. My reason for cancellation is the constant misinformation and poor service I receive from the Vivint customer service team from top to bottom. Today alone, I spent 1 hour and 50 minutes on the telephone, and spoke with 6 different people. Twice, I was disconnected or hung up on. I received multiple different and "best" offers for your product. For example, today, after I received an offer for $24.99 a month without a contract from a "Maria", I was told the only offer available was for $39.99 a month for a 36 month contract by an "Erica". This is my consistent experience with Vivint. And not a single apology rings true when the misinformation is neither corrected nor compensated for. Today's call originated from looking back over my finances for the past year and finding out Vivint did nothing that was told to me in my last series of calls to Vivint or the email an associate sent me that clearly states 3 months credit were "already applied" to my account. I was told in calls with Vivint in October of last year (as a result of more misinformation regarding billing and a camera install on my front porch), that I would be awarded three free months and a rate of $29.99 moving forward. I was not given a single free month and was charged $49.37 for the subsequent months. I will be filing this account with my lawyers and seeking a refund/compensation of at minimum $98.11 for the three months (10/23, 11/23, 12/23) that I was charged for after that email was sent to me. I will also be posting this to every site that allows reviews of your company with a 1-star rating, as it has been demonstrated consistently that your company will say anything to get their next payment and will not take accountability for anything their customer reps say. I can only imagine what could have happened if in my 7 year business with Vivint, I ever actually needed the services promised by Vivint--services marketed as a source of "peace of mind" and prolonged through at least 1 more payment justified by the fine print in the agreement ("Your account will be processed for cancellation 30 days after this notice is received") that says you are a service that is responsible for your customer's immediate health and safety. Nobody should ever trust this company with their peace of mind, health, or safety. read more

We had a Vivint security system installed in 2021. But everytime I request service on the unit i keep getting told I have to Pay $99.00 for a technician. We had a lady on the phone and we were explaining that we were changing the batteries in 4 of the pieces of equipment that were failing, and when I asked for a supervisor, because she wasnt understanding what I was saying, she got nasty with me. There is no actual support for the equipment they install without paying for it. I purchased the additional $10 upgrade to my plan to cover equipment and technical service, but was told by her, that if i didnt let her finish her support that I would have to pay for a technician regardless of what was wrong with the system. They are continually asking you to upgrade your equipment even before you have the first equipment you purchased, paid off! read more

Stay away from these crooks! Vivint sucks. Please do not do business with this awful company. Once you are in their system, it's almost impossible to cancel. I sold my house and moved in October. I called to cancel prior to moving. I was informed it takes 30 days, so I would be billed for the next month. OK. Unbeknownst to me, instead, the agent put my cancellation in a "contact new owner to transfer service" category which essentially put my cancel request on hold. November payment came out and I thought that was it. I called again when payment was taken out again in December and was again told another 30 day period. They then took another payment out in January. After an hour and half on the phone with an agent and a supervisor, they informed me I would not be able to cancel unless I paid an additional February payment. Vivint supervisor thinks it's cool company policy to bill a senior citizen for 4 months when they didn't even live in the house! After these calls, I received an email notice that my account was under "cancellation review". Fingers crossed as to whether or not this occurs. Based on other reviews this is standard operating procedure for Vivint. They do everything in the world to get you to sign up, everything in the world to get you to transfer your account to your new home or the new owner, and absolutely everything in the world to not let you cancel. This company should be shut down for unfair business practices. Stay away! read more

Pretty much had to shut my door in guys face as he kept trying to get me to listen to him even though knew have cameras already. Please stop or teach people what no soliciting sign means. They continued to charge us for 1.5 years after initiating a transfer to the new home owners. This transfer was conducted with the new home owners and us on the phone with Vivint. Apparently, the new home owners did not process the transfer correctly; the fine print indicates we as the previous owners are on the hook for payments. The new home owners did change the passcode, so they have access to the security system. Why didn't we pick up on the monthly charge for so long? A bunch of kids and insanity, combined with several emails from Vivint indicating that our card was expiring, then finally that it was expired. No communications or monthly emails about the charges. Vivint's lack of transparency in communicating that we continue to pay for this service is unethical, and they will not refund us 1.5 years of monthly services. Get another home security system. Don't go the Vivint route. read more

Vivint will not cancel my account and is taking money from both me and the new home buyer for the same address! After I sold my home and new owner took over the existing system, I noticed that money was still being taken out of my bank each month. Calling Vivint told me their records show that I refused the new owners taking over the account (that is ludicrous because I am selling to them) but allowed them to open an account for the existing property and equipment. I have made several months of calls, replying back in email to their cancellation documents, etc... and still today-almost 5 months after I moved--I am told the cancellation is still pending and wanted me to resend initial documents for why I want to cancel. This is not a reputable company. They do supply a service but it's like the Eagle's song 'Hotel California': you can check out any time you like but you can never leave! read more

They are nice when you are in your 30 days then after that they treat you like shit. Willow the sales rep lie to us and Paula in the loyalty department did not put in the system the conversation that we had. They put their system in my house and didn't replace the senor with theirs use the ones from the old company now they are telling me they are not compatible and want me to pay to replace them. If they knew the senor were not compatible why wouldn't you replace them at the time of the installation. I wouldn't refer them to no one because they employees lie and mistreat the costumers. Since I acquired their system through the purchase of our home, the service for this company has been consistently terrible. Initially, it took over 90 days for them to make the first contact. After that, things improved a bit and the system worked okay for a while. But when we had a problem with the thermostat, it took months to resolve. Finally, we lucked out and got a good tech. He figured out that when Vivint installed the system, they put the heat-generating control panel right next to the thermostat. That's why the heat never came on. Fast forward to this year, I wanted to upgrade my system. While working on the quote, we had a tech problem. Calling their support made the problem worse. It got to the point where we couldn't secure our home before we left for a flight. When I told them I was going to go with another company, someone from their executive relations contacted me. I thought things would go smoothly from there. But apparently, their service is so bad, that even the exec resolution team is inundated and can't return calls or emails correctly or promptly. How they can stay in business is beyond me. I have not seen a single positive review for them anywhere. read more

This company will bill you months after you cancel your service. EVEN WITH NO CONTRACT! Even when they uninstall your equipment and take the product that you have paid for after 10 years of service. They will harass you with phone calls that you are overdue!! They will tell you that you haven't followed protocol for cancelling even after sending emails that they told you to write and followed word for word. If I could give a 0-star rating I would (if not lower). I called Vivint Solar, "oh, their our sister company" according to an otherwise VERY nice and professional CSR for a solar quote. I have "heard" only the best things about this company but reading all these reviews, I clearly failed in my due diligence. She asked for my birthday to verify my identity and I immediately felt something amiss. Yep, sure enough, they pulled a soft credit check. While soft credit checks don't affect one's credit like a hard credit check, I am very upset that I was not told ahead of time. If you heard the call, maybe she did state that? But I can only say it went by so quickly I wasn't sure what I was submitting. I certainly wish they would have explained what and why they were asking. Ultimately it's my mistake. I didn't protect myself. I have to bear the responsibility. Vivint Solar certainly doesn't care. However, rest assured that this will be well remembered when I'm making my final analysis of solar panel choices. I can not even begin to think that I would consider them. (Vivint) entered into a Settlement Agreement with The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to settle a complaint filed alleging Vivint violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by improperly obtaining credit reports in order to qualify potential customers for financing for its smart home monitoring and security products. The FTC also alleged that Vivint violated the FTC's Red Flags Rule by failing to implement an identity theft prevention program, which is required of certain companies that regularly use or obtain credit reports. The FTC alleged that some Vivint sales representatives used a process known as "white paging", which involved finding another consumer with the same or a similar name and using that consumer's credit history to qualify the prospective unqualified customers. Vivint sales representatives sometimes asked customers to provide the name of someone they knew who had better credit, such as a relative, then added that innocent third=party as a co-signer to the account without their permission, and used their credit history to qualify the prospective customer. If customers qualified using these deceptive tactics later defaulted on their loans, Vivint referred the innocent third party to is debt buyer, potentially harming that consumer's credit and subjecting them to debt collectors, the FTC alleged. Many consumers whose credit reports were misused by Vivint sales representatives complained to the FTC that they were victims of identity theft after being contacted by Vivint's debt collectors. The FTC alleged that Vivint was aware of the problem, and in fact terminated many sales representatives for misconduct only to rehire some of them shortly thereafter. The Settlement Agreement requires Vivint to implement an employee monitoring and training program, as well as an identity theft prevention program. The company must also establish a customer service task force to verity that accounts belong to the right customer before referring any account to a debt collector, and must assist consumers who were improperly referred to debt collectors. In addition, Vivint must pay a $15 million civil penalty and an additional $5 million to compensate injured consumers. People who did not sign up for Vivint's services but were contacted by debt collectors or found Vivint accounts improperly listed on their credit reports may be eligible for compensation from this settlement and can sign up for email updates here. read more

I was told in order to cancel I had to send an email this was after I canceled my service and paid all necessary fees for early cancellation. Then I was charged months later even after not having Vivint product at the house I used to be in. So I called and told them that I want to cancel they said send email. I sent the email and the cancellation team continued to sell me the product and didn't go ahead and cancel they tricked in me in telling me that I couldn't get Viviint again and that if I did I would have to buy the whole alarm system again that I just finished paying for. I had told them that I moved from the house I was living at and I live in an apartment so I don't know when I will own a home again as I live in California now. So they suggested I get a deferment until I bought a house I told them it might be over a year or two and they said they can only do a year so I agreed thinking that once I buy a house I can start my contract welll they failed to tell me that the deferment included the 36 months I didn't find this out till later I thought it meant once I get the system in place and sign all paperwork. Now a year later they are sending me a bill to pay a monthly service but I have no type of monitoring service with them. I've called many times and I'm not given an accurate answer until recently where they said I have to pay $700 to cancel one I didn't sign any contract and don't have monitoring service with them so why do I have to cancel when I already paid my early termination fee when I had a different service with them and I paid all obligations they asked for. I've read other similar blogs,posts and complaints. They are scamming people to stay with them and it's difficult to cancel I never had this problem before with many companies. The sales representative told us, he would give us a 30 day free trial and 3 months of no payments. We repeatedly asked him about it. When we tried to cancel after 2 weeks, we were told the trial period had ended. I have spent many hours on the phone with the loyalty and complaint departments, each time was told they would call or email us. Have never received anything. DO NOT CONRACT WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!  I had Vivint for 4 years and moved.  I canceled my contract per the agreement - giving 30 days notice and paying off the hardware.  I paid off of the equipment amount but unfortunately, I was told I have to continue paying for the monitoring services as I have 5 months left on my 60month contract. Sad that I have to write another review of this company. I don't know what happened from when we first had gotten the service to now but I guess moral of the story is don't add any service. First and foremost there is a $299 charge that got added to my account for no reason? That $299 needs to be taken off of my citizens pay account immediately. I did not authorize that and that shouldn't be on there. Secondly I bought 2 extra sensors and decided to add them and they don't even work so that was a total waste. The first ones that were initially installed are amazing but these ones are totally different and complete garbage. I paid out of pocket for these and just want to return them and get my money back. Third thing is I added another doorbell camera and it doesn't even work half the time. Actually 2 of my cameras that I added after the fact go off line more times than they are on line. It has nothing to do with my WiFi either because it's a strong connection and very fast. Lastly they won't send someone out to fix this issues without trying to charge me $100 so they expect you to have broken equipment and pay for it month by month unless you pay them. Well I decided I would schedule and try and get it fixed and figure the $100 out and they send out a tech who is not supposed to be at my house!!! If you read my other review he had installed a camera in which I did not authorize so it was in the notes for him not to be there. I mean come on this is horrible customer service and just very portly ran. I will definitely be taking this further and trying to switch if it doesn't get resolved. It's absolutely ridiculous with how many phone calls I've had to make and how much money this has cost me. Continued attempts to cancel service and could not get it done. Send me to the next person. Did that for awhile and when it finally got figured out, they got one last charge out of me because it takes 30 days to get it finalized. I was day 24 of their billing cycle so got that one last cycle in. Nothing they can do about it they said. Even after multiple attempts to get this taken care of noted in their event logs.
