My husband and I were visiting family in Phinney Ridge and we did not want to miss taking pilates classes, which we do several times a week at home on the east coast. I researched studios and Vitality Pilates seemed like the best. It was a great choice! We absolutely loved the classes!. They were challenging, there were many to choose from, and all the instructors were exceellent. The community was so friendly. We will defintiely be coming to take classes every time we are back in Seattle, which is going to be frequent. Vitality Pilates was one of the best parts of our two week trip. All the instructors treated us like we had been there for years and were welcoming and interested in making sure we had a great experience and class. I've been coming to Vitality for a few months now, and it has truly become a highlight of my routine--largely thanks to the incredible instructors. First and foremost, Kaitlyn M is a rockstar. Her classes are thoughtful, creative, and the perfect balance of challenging yet approachable--you feel the work, but never in a discouraging way. She has amazing energy, gives spot-on cues, and her corrections are always gentle yet effective. I love how she explains what we're working on, what it targets, and how it should feel, while always offering both more advanced and less intense options. Her class flow, the challenge, the stretching--it's all delicious! Her professionalism and ease make it feel like she's been teaching forever, yet she hasn't lost her spark or edge. I'm beyond grateful for her classes and (selfishly) wish she taught even more! Honestly, I hesitate to write this because I don't want to end up stuck on the waitlist, but credit is due where it's deserved--Kaitlyn is amazing! I also have to shout out some of the other fantastic instructors at Vitality: Liz's jumpboard classes are an absolute blast--her spunky energy is contagious, and I look forward to my Thursday nights with Liz and our little jumpboard crew every single week! Mari's classes are top-notch; they're usually waitlisted, and there's a reason why--she's fantastic. Sharareh is a newer teacher, and I love how much care, affinity, and belief in the power of Pilates she brings to every class. She is tender in the best way. Michele also started more recently, but you'd never know it. She taught the first class I ever took at Vitality, and I had no idea she was new--her instruction was clear, and she spoke to the fundamentals of Pilates beautifully. Teaching a beginner class can be tricky, and she handled it seamlessly! Natalie--creative, challenging, and guaranteed to kick your butt! MK is always a joy--consistent and lighthearted, and I leave every class with a smile. Andy... OMG. So hard. So many planks. But a great class nonetheless! Overall, I'm incredibly grateful for Vitality. Their pricing is reasonable, allowing me to do the unlimited package, which has improved both my physical and mental health tenfold. Simply the best. Whether you're rehabbing, a fitness enthusiast or new to movement Vitality Pilates has something for everyone. The balance between instructors provides continued challenges and a variety of diverse workouts. After the birth my twins I was practically crippled. I started the pregnancy teaching eight group fitness classes per week -- yoga, cycle, strength. The pregnancy rendered me barely able to move without pain. After many months of PT and failed experiences in my old modalities a friend suggested pilates and I found Vitality. Seven years later, a move to LA, one pandemic and three kids, I'm a daily practitioner. After moving back to Seattle (Phinney Ridge) from Santa Monica almost two years ago I'm at the studio 3-6 days per week. Vitality helps me stay mobile, strong and flexible. It continues to be physically challenging, while allowing me to work within my limitations -- a class at Vitality almost always helps my pain and dysfunction. I joke that pilates is the maintenance I need to keep the screws in --what put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Through Vitality, I am still progressing and discovering new capacity within my body. I've been amazed at how functional pilates is. The gains in studio transfer not only to my physical life as a mom and homemaker but to other athletic pursuits. Best thing I have done for myself is attend pilates classes at Vitality Pilates for 12 years!

What was a well-run and organized pilates studio has fallen apart. There is a very LOW level of customer service. I've called, emailed, and texted multiple times to get a simple question answered and gotten no response, now will be subject to late cancel or no show fees due to no fault of my own. The studio recently changed from Mind Body scheduling platform to Walla, and Walla is total crap. My account didn't get migrated successfully, so I was incurring late/no show fees for classes on my schedule that I could not access or change. This took about one week to resolve, after which I was so pissed about the poor service and fees I was running up (out of my control) that I told them to cancel my membership after being a member for over 10 years. That no one asked "what can we do better?" or "what can we do to keep you as a member?" is unconscionable. Clearly there is no care or concern for members. The level of instruction has also declined dramatically in recent months after several instructors quit and/or are no longer teaching on weekday evenings. One instructor had the gall to leave students standing outside the studio on a rainy cold night b/c she "wasn't ready for us". Mind you, this was 5 minutes before class was scheduled to start and normally you'd be at your reformer, set up and ready to go 5-10 minutes before class started. She knew there were people outside as we knocked, and she saw us and just left us outside in the rain and cold. Terrible and unwelcoming behavior. There's nothing left to stay for. Jumpboard class was my favorite here. But in order to be able to take this class, which is level 3, I had to get instructor approval to pass level 1 and 2, which wasn't the best experience. I've had pilates training before and some of the level 2 classes were so easy to the point where I left feeling disappointed like I didn't get a workout at all. Yes, I got some good stretching, but that was about it. The saving grace was instructor Sara, who made class challenging with options for variations so everyone can work where they're at. Anyway, I'm not sure about their level system since the level 3 pilates class I took didn't feel any different from a level 2. I liked: -the fact that there's usually street parking available (sometimes it's a pain) -bodhi & mat class is interesting to try out- the bodhi is similar to trx, but also very different as it has 4 straps instead of 2 -jump board classes had a good flow and provided good cardio + stretching + resistance work read more

Their membership only allows for 2 pre-scheduled class reservations per week... if you do their non-committal membership (2-month commitment; the other option is a full 1 year commitment) then that calculates to approximately $25 per session (before tax) if you only do 2 classes a week. Sure, you can do last-minute drop-ins, however, the evening class times are often times fully-booked out ahead of time. The price is my only complaint -- I really enjoy the teachers, the studio is clean and well maintained, staff are friendly. They could use more bathrooms (only one stall which doubles as the changing room)... but overall, this is a great studio. read more

I was looking for a good studio with classes where I could get a good work out, classes aren't challenging and instructors aren't as welcoming. I imagine the advanced classes may be good and challenging but I didnt get the chance to take one as the groupon is for the intro classes. I don't recommend using a groupon for this studio as you'll be stuck to the intro beginner classes/not welcomed by the instructors to other classes. Downgrading to one star because of awful customer service. They really don't care about their customers at all. I've now been charged twice for two months of membership that I didn't receive, and Jen, the Assistant Director, refuses to consider my cancellation date, the fact that I was locked out of the class reservation system or financial hardship. In this day and age, with service becoming more important to more and more companies, there's no need to subject yourself to such shoddy treatment. There are plenty of other options. Pilates! Love it! Yes, it's expensive anywhere you go although for me, I finally found something that I enjoy doing so it's worth it. What brought me to Vitality (Phinney studio) was that it was very close to home and one of the most reasonably priced studios around town. Lesson learned- you get what you pay for. I called the studio to get a little more information about becoming a member and they signed me up to come in for a 30 minute intro class for free. The instructor was nice and went through some of the basics of pilates and we spent some time on the reformer. At no point was there any conversation about what I was looking for, or if I wanted to sign up- it was very informal and brief and I left wondering why they didn't take more interest in me since I was a potential new customer. That being said, I still wanted to give it a go so I signed up for their 7 week series for beginners, with 2 classes a week. It was $269 plus tax, so it came to be close to $300. I was really excited to start something new and to improve my overall strength and flexibility. I found that Vitatlity did not help me with either of these things. I ended up having the same instructor for most of the series and she was nice but she didn't seem into teaching. Classes became very redundant and I didn't feel like we were progressing or even challenging ourselves after a few weeks in. During my 6th week she even asked the class where we were in the series, she didn't know if ended that week or the next. That tells me there was not much planning on her part and probably why we weren't doing more challenging excercises. We spent most of our time doing arm and leg work, the exact same excercises for 7 weeks. This was not for me. I knew I wasn't going to renew my membership but was surprised that not one person there (even the instructor I had for most classes) approached me about continuing my membership. They didn't even know my name or try to learn it. Needless to say I felt like a ghost there. I was not happy to have spent that kind of money for an experience like that. I suggest checking out several different studios before you commit you dollars. I have now found a new studio that I love. They get to know you and your name. They challenge you to the point of sweat and tears (good tears!) They make me want to come back day after day because of the level of service they provide and the hospitality they offer. They offer all different types of Pilates classes and actually make you learn the different muscle groups that you are working before you can level up to more challenging classes. I feel like I am definitely getting my dollars worth now. Don't waste your money at Vitality! read more

I took an intro series last year right before I got married in Nov. 2010. I loved it! I have taken pilates numerous times and even considered teaching it since I teach Zumba and lift classes, but my experience was mainly on the mat. If you have never taken a pilates class before with the reformer, it is amazing! You can really feel the stretches and your core gets going! The instructors were informative and very attentive. Quick to let you know if you were doing something wrong, but in a nurturing way. Classes are small and rooms are clean. Only thing is pilates gets pricey after a while, if I wasn't doing crossfit (for fun) and didn't devote my time to teaching Zumba, I would totally do this again. read more

i love Vitality. The instructors are amazing and varied; it works well to attend a variety of instructors' classes to find someone who matches your preferences for difficulty, and clarity/style of instruction (as there is some variation). What is standard, however, is the instructors' levels of expertise and professionalism. Vitality is not inexpensive. If you attend about 3 classes a week, I believe you really get your money's worth. At the rate I take classes, it costs me about half as much per Pilates class than it does for a yoga class at nearby yoga studios, and the cost at Vitality is less than other Pilates studios in the area. This kind of thinking makes the monthly membership fee a little easier to swallow. I also think sometimes you pay for what you get, and the quality of instruction here is very high. One thing I learned in taking a couple of introductory series before I advanced into the multi-level classes is that you need to see a series into its second half to get a good idea of how challenging a typical class will be. The first half of the intro series is very much focused on proper form and breathing and the coursework eases into a more typical level of difficulty in the second half (though you will still likely see improvements to your strength and tone in these early classes). This really does pay off though and helps you do the exercises properly and get more benefit out of them as time goes on; the progression is very well thought out. I also appreciate how, even into the more challenging multi-level courses, proper breathing and form is still consistently emphasized. I am very grateful for the overall quality of this business; it's made me a better runner and athlete overall. read more

My time spent at Vitality Pilates has been life changing. I started out in an Intro series that started last November and have been hooked ever since! The instructors are amazing. I learn something new every time I take a class and that is what inspires me. My body has changed and I have recovered from a running injury thanks to my practice and PT (Michele B is the best physical therapist in Seattle) at Vitality. Everyone I have met/spoken to/worked with at both the Phinney Ridge and Mount Baker locations have been kind, warm and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Vitality Pilates for a great challenge and a total body work out. Tip: take an early morning (6 or 7 am) class. After being a member of a gym for years, I found that I am much motivated to go regularly when I am taking a class. But I am also terribly uncoordinated and most classes take me back to grade school where I was always the last one picked for teams. My gym started offering Pilates reformer classes so I joined a series and after just two weeks, I could feel the difference. Its great low-impact, all over strength training. My gym was only offering classes once a week though and I wanted more. I was so happy to discover Vitality right in my neighborhood. Since joining, I've made it a regular practice and am going up to 4 times a week when I can. The price seems high compared to a gym, but it is comparable to other reformer classes, and I feel like I get great value out the money I've spent. Vitality teaches on the reformer machines and classes are limited to 8 people. Which makes the whole experience much more personalized than taking a yoga class packed with 30 or more people. All of the instructors are amazing. They each can describe the multitude of moves in a way that is easy to comprehend for newbies but also not tedious for those that have been there a while. They also keep tabs on everyones sore spots and injuries and offer individualized variations. They each are passionate about pilates and have a gazillion different exercises so that it never gets boring. They are all friendly and welcoming too. They offer classes in the early morning and into the evening making it convenient to get to before or after work. You can sign up for the classes online. Some classes are hard to get into, but the staff has responded by offering more classes at popular times. I frequently use the wait list feature, and Ive gotten into the desired class the majority of the time. You do get charged if you miss a class without canceling but thats just the final straw to keep up your motivation. Im so glad that Vitality has made a home on Phinney Ridge! read more

Vitality is an extremely organized, well-run Pilates studio. I primarily attend the Phinney Ridge location (which is essentially equipment only) and really love the instructors and atmosphere. Mari, especially, is a talented instructor (for both group classes and private lessons) that makes Pilates a joy and a challenge. She knows the perfect balance of pushing for continued improvement while making you feel successful and comfortable. It's truly been a transformative experience that's worth every session. On a side note, while Vitality doesn't offer pregnancy/prenatal-specific classes, the instructors are well-versed in pregnancy modifications and offer them in integrated classes. This means you can take any of the classes that fit your schedule/level and you'll get the pregnancy support you need. MUCH more convenient than having to work around a limited set of prenatal specific class offerings. I'm now 7 months pregnant (with twins) and can still comfortably take weekly group classes to support my pregnancy. read more

Autumn is an amazing teacher who gently shows you how to pay attention to every detail of form, function and mind / body connection Since then I've had the pleasure of taking classes with two other instructors, Melanie and Heather at both the Phinney RIdge and Mt. Baker Studios. Both Heather and Melanie are also wonderful instructors that are able to meet each student where they are at physically and ensure they have a great work out. Besides the amazing instructors, the staff at Vitality is always friendly and helpful. The studio and equipment is clean and well maintained. read more

I'm just 5 lessons in to a 7-week introductory reformer course, but, so far, I couldn't be more pleased. I did cash in a Groupon certificate for the course, as the price of Pilates classes in general was off-putting to me. Vitality actually seems like one of the most reasonably-priced, fully-equipped studios I've seen. Our instructor, Mari, is fantastic. She's calm, she fully explains everything in ways that make sense, and she quietly corrects you when you need a little help. It is a bit difficult to schedule classes on weekday post-work evenings, which may prevent me from returning. If I can find an evening class that works though, I'll definitely add one day a week at Vitality to my routine. Edited to add: I did finish my introductory course, and tried to sign up for another series, but unfortunately, Vitality isn't really willing to allow once-a-week students. I do understand that they need to fill their series, but unless I can figure out how to add just one class a week (without paying for private instruction), I probably won't return. I have an established routine, and I can't afford the expense or time to add Pilates more than once a week. Bummer. read more

OK- I wanted to wait until I had some actual time under my belt before offering a review of Vitality Pilates....I can honestly say after 5 months...that this place is great! I signed up for the Intro series and was so blown away I signed up for the nex 6 months!! I love the convenience of the Phinney-Ridge location ( there is always street parking and I can stop at Ken's Market after class to grab healthy dinner stuff) and the hours are very flexible. I'm able to sign up in advance for my favorite 7am classes or after 5pm. ( I take classes with Mari and Tom and highly reccomend both of them!!!). I know that I can also take classes at any of their other locations but, since I can walk to Phinney-Ridge I have not yet taken advantage of the other locations. Someone was complaining about the cost but I've taken Pilates classes in other states, cities and at other facilities and I think that Vitality Pilates is VERY affordable in comparison...especially for all that you get. The studio space is comfortable and there are never more than 7 people in a class so you get plenty of instructor attention on the reformers. I have always found their customer service to be fantastic and I really enjoy that they are always offering new classes, training opportunities and email updates. Take a chance and join one of their Intro classes.....you'll be glad you did! read more

I've taken a couple of different series at Vitality now and it's great. The instructors are knowledgeable and nurturing. The staff is very helpful and flexible (I had to travel overseas unexpectedly for a few months and they deferred the start of the session I had signed up for. I am amazed that the hour flies by and that I actually look forward to it - and I feel looser after a class than even after a tough stretching session. The core strength and cues the instructors give are key too - keeps the reminders going through all daily activities too. read more

I felt used! The instructors are nice but they're constantly checking their notes, so you feel like they aren't so sure what they're doing. The pro's of vitality pilates are the website and all the tech-y stuff like the computer check-in, etc. Unfortunately they seem to be more concerned with upping their numbers and their profits than actually teaching you pilates. Also, I don't consider myself very physically fit, yet I felt bored during sessions because they start you so slowly. They don't say hi when you walk in, they don't even look up. There's one crappy changing room/bathroom (and when I used it once there was a workman in there with me - thanks for the heads up VP staff!). Bleh, not a fan. For the money get some private/small group sessions where they'll learn your name. read more

Vitality was my first introduction to Pilates, as I made it through Level 1 and am now in Level 2. I want so badly to love this studio, as the pricing is pretty fair. However, it is the atmosphere of the studio that really bothers me. Granted, I am new to Pilates and to the Vitality studio (both Ravenna and Phinney) but would love to love coming to the studio. Instead, it is an awkward feeling and I am not made to feel welcome. Because of this, I have branched out to other studios and am seeing what other places offer in terms of customer service. In my opinion, this is a very easy fix for Vitality! Simply ask your instructors to be a bit nicer/friendlier/warmer to those who pay to love your studio. Otherwise, I have had a good experience...I just expect more out of a place that is meant to bring joy to the people who use it. read more

I can be a member at both super sport 24hr fitness and the climbing gym. or hot yoga. or whatever. for the price of this. and I do still feel like I need to be doing some cardio or something on top of pilates throughout the week... anyway it was a great experience! This is a great place to learn flexibilty like no mat pilates can do. The teachers are very concise on proper form and movement. I think of it as therapy since it's it's gentle way to get back in shape after an injury. If your wanting to burn major calories then mixing pilates with cardio from another gym will do the job. I do wish the classes were a full hour instead of 50min thou. Getting in to the class times you want can be challenging since there are limited spots available per hour, and they have to be pre-booked online. The price seemed a little more reasonable than some other pilates studios in the area and when you sign up for a year the price is even better. read more

I started doing pilates about five months ago after my PT urged me to go. I've always had a weak lower back and had to cut back running after a sciatica problem wouldn't go away. I had done some mat classes at the gym before but never a reformer class. The reformer is where it's at! The instructors do a great job making sure you are comfortable on the equipment and know how to do the excercises using correct form. All the instructors I've had are very encouraging and patient, they want to make sure the class is working for you and are tuned in to each individual's needs. They are also very aware of students with injuries, really willing to help you adjust excercises to work within your limits. I love that there are people of all shapes and sizes in these classes and it seems to be a very encouraging environment. I started off with two of the intro series and have now become a member. Don't let the first week or two fool you, it gets a lot harder! The difference in my back after doing pilates the last few months is amazing! I also feel it's really helped with my sciatica and it is a great full body workout...it has replaced my weight routine I used to do at the gym, with better results. I love that each class is a little different depending on level and instructor, I never get bored with it. The people that work at Vitality are more than helpful and can really help you figure out which program is right depending on what you are looking for. They're also proactive in helping you get the most for your money...which is pretty great! If you're looking to try pilates out or if you're just looking for a new studio, I'd definitely give Vitality a shot. read more

While this review is for Phinney, I rotated to all 3 locations. They're all very nice studios tucked away in residential neighborhoods. I mainly rotated to follow Tom's schedule because he was my favorite. Adena and others are also very good. It's just a matter of personal preference. I suggest you try classes with different instructors to find one you mesh well with. I'm a first time pilates person here with no prior pilates or dance background, but I came in with a strong fitness base. The level 1 classes were instrumental in helping me understand the fundamental of pilates, which i didn't realize how much I would appreciate until I went through it. I went into pilates thinking I just want a new workout regimen that will tone my abs! My 3x/week group classes were a great forum. The instructors at Vitality (all locations -- they rotate around) are excellent coaches and teachers. Each instructor took the time to watch and guide each person, even in packed 7-person classes. My favorite instructor is Tom -- he's funny, knows his stuff and really pushes you. At the end of each 1-hour session, I not only felt like I got an overall body workout (it feels like deep muscle work) but a good stretching as well. Pilates helped me get leaner and toner - I am a huge fan of this exercise and Vitality! read more

I have been going to Vitality Pilates for about 9 months. I have finally found a form of fitness that works for me. I attend the 6 am sessions which have proven to be the only time when I can consistently do anything. But, the key is still how much I enjoy pilates at Vitality. It's led to a real overall improvement in my well-being, and I love the fact that for the first time in many years, I feel strong! I enjoyed the many classes and private training I did at Vitality Pilates. There are a range of instructors who offer different styles and routines which is nice. I did private training with Melissa and she was superb - very good about correcting posture, offering different routines, and I found her to be funny and down-to-earth (which many Pilates people are not). I also really enjoyed Autumn's classes as she pushes her students a bit more. The scheduling is a bit complicated, but it's worth it to be set up that way as I usually managed to find a class I could attend. read more
