As soon as I am feeling better, Im already monkeying around so I came here on Memorial Day Monday to do some climbing. VITAL also sent me an email to wish me a happy birthday and I was scratching my head as to how I got on their email list and I think what happened is that I have climbed VITAL in Brooklyn before (like years ago), so thats how I got on the list. I didnt realize they were all connected, so super cool to know this! And they offered me a free day to climb so of course this little gym rat showed up! This is a really nice all bouldering gym and I really enjoyed my time here! I still like Mesa Rim the best but this gym is purely for bouldering and I am biased towards all bouldering gyms!! Alex helped me out and was very nice. He had me fill out a waiver, you do have to watch a 2 minute video about how climbing is dangerous and how to fall. I loved this gym because everything felt spacious but also not a lot of people today so that was cool. They also had a lot of their windows and doors opened so a great breeze coming in and just the perfect day to boulder!! I spent about 2 hours here and there were mostly men climbing. This one guy that was climbing was so built that I had trouble focusing on my climbs vs staring at him. He was very nicely chiseled and chose not to wear a shirt, so I was drooling a bit haha. He was cute for sure and we even exchanged a few glances, wink wink! The routes here weren't intuitive for me. They use a color coding system here like Bouldering Project but it was odd to me that some graded easy climbs I had difficult with and then some that are supposed to be hard, I easily climbed those...I couldnt figure out what was going on... There are 4 bathrooms on the bottom floor and a few have showers in them too. Bathrooms were clean and nice. There is an upstairs area thats for yoga classes and also an area where they have ellipticals and bikes. I very much enjoyed climbing here and definitely will be back. Im considering either punch passes or maybe pull the trigger and join, but Oside is a little bit far for me to come regularly. I wish they had a location in Del Mar lol. When I was leaving a bunch of women showed up and aerial silk class was about to start so thats really cool they offer that too! Was so cool to see the colorful silks hang from the ceiling! Mellow Friday Evening Session with Ocean Breeze at Vital Climbing Gym Came in on a Friday evening around 7pm and it was surprisingly not packed at all -- perfect timing! One side had a class going on while the free climbers had the other side to themselves. The floors are super soft and bouncy, which makes it feel safe (great for teens or anyone worried about falls). The music and overall noise level stayed low, giving the whole place a nice mellow, relaxed vibe. Being an open structure, the ocean breeze sweeps right through and feels refreshing, especially on a warm evening. You could even hear the occasional motorcycle drive by on Coast Hwy, but that was the only real outside noise. I noticed a lot of stretching happening, so if you're into yoga or want a good change-up from just climbing, this seems like a solid spot for that too. Overall, a chill and welcoming environment. Definitely a nice way to unwind after the week. read more

Been coming here since 2017, honestly disappointed. If you decide to become a member don't be surprised to be greeted by their entitled ClimbFit coach needing your workout space for an all employee "class" that was not scheduled or notified time in advance. Even when I asked if I could move over to accommodate (because the workout area was packed) I was looked at like I was an idiot for asking and he was obviously annoyed and was probably hoping I would happily move for him. Idk, as a long time paying member I would hope my time and space would be respected. I guess not. read more

The people that climb here and the staff are stuck up and rude. The holds and routes aren't great either.

Below average gym, uninspiring setting, greasy holds, rude staff, lack of control of children running amuck throughout the facility, and dirty bathrooms. We experienced an issue with their waiver resetting multiple times and staff provided no solutions, staff simply commented he was not a computer programmer and we would just have to keep watching the video until the iPad worked... . Ended up taking 20 minutes to finally complete the waiver after having to watch the YouTube video about 4/5times. Requested to speak with a manager and staff simply stated you can go online and find a manager (not sure what that even means) been to climbing gyms all over the US and the world. Was probably the worst experience climbing gym experience I've had. read more

Such a great experience this weekend! Fin helped us out and he was incredible, great customer service, very informative and such a good attitude! Was super thankful and my daughter was so stoked to be in the gym! We were short on time but had fun, love that you can lift and workout while the little ones climb! Super friendly place even when an old guy walks in and wants to climb. The walls are good, lots of different angles, easy to difficult. I would rate the place 4 or 5 stars except they didn't spray the shoes after I was done climbing. This means I probably put my bare foot into a nasty shoe. They did stuff some dryer sheets into the shoe... I don't think dryer sheets kill germs. So cool place $15 per day, $60 month or punch cards. If you are a member the place is 24x7. read more

I joined vital because they had an awesome warm yoga program they offered. This was my absolute favorite and after 3 months of construction recently on the upstairs facility including the yoga studio, the heat was failed to be fixed. It is a bit disappointing because I joined for this and left another studio for the warm. I hope it gets fixed soon! read more

Let me start off with that I' am not an experienced climber but I would say I am decent ;) I've been to two other rock climbing gyms and I have to say that Vital has definitely stolen my heart. Starting off with the location and the cleanliness of the gym. I love how open and fresh the gym feels. The weight area is always kept nice and neat. The different levels of rock climbing always makes for a great challenge every week. I haven't tried the yoga classes but I am very excited to try them out once I've finished my other membership at mantra. I've gone at least 5 times here and continue to bring other friends so that they can experience the same kind of experience I've had. Thanks to the staff that's always been kind, helpful and welcoming. *Oh yea and the gym neighbors a bar right next door! read more

I am reviewing yoga here. As a non member I found the 6:30 am level 2 yoga class on class pass. Street parking near this gym is easy. There was someone there propping the door open, since this is usually a members only facility. For yoga you go right upstairs. There are cubbies to store your stuff upstairs. The decor is beautiful. A lot of polished wood and natural light. The actual yoga studio is dark (which I love). It fits about 14 ppl comfortably, so it's smaller than most. Instructor was solid. Only reason I couldn't give this 5 stars was the noise from the adjacent climbing gym. It's tough to relax into a final pose when you hear chatter and big thumps on the other side of the wall. Obviously, this place is first and foremost a climbing gym. Yoga is good, but I'd prefer to go to a yoga focused studio. read more

Vital may be double what I paid for 24hour fitness, but no one uses the weights and that's really what I come here for. ROGUE weights, that's world class and I'm not sure all these gumbies know what they have at their disposal. Without going into my climbing career I decided to come back for cross training and the whole 24hour access for members was really intriguing. The showers are a little weird as they are shared bathrooms, but aside from being a little dusty(dirty) this happens with climbing gym chalk dust/dirty (my old Solid Rock Days). I use this as my workout place when I'm not working out at my office, it's not close, so it's not used for my daily stuff, just convenience use. It's modern with yoga, some light fitness equipment, couches, food, merch for sale and a nifty cool water fountain. They have some nice easy stuff, some steep stuff, but could use a more clear designation/rating system and a traverse. Plenty of hang boards, bars, grip training devices. The matt is nice, not too firm in the way Spot's are. There are some higher bouldering areas, but no slab. You can see they have multiple setters based on styles, I'm slowly learning them, but I'm still re-beginning my journey while I take breaks from lifting in the corner. It's a bit of a early 20 something hangout and a lot of people just lounge here after climbing. You can plug in your music, but suggest Bluetooth as somehow climbing has become about the individual and less about the community to get you to the top and that's a shame in a way. Like most gym's you can spot the people who climb outside. Spray on young gumbies and let me crush heavies. So much to teach these kids. read more

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Vital yet - better late than never! I have been coming to Vital for only about 4 months now. I started out at their Carlsbad location, tagging along with my husband who recently got into climbing and generally feeling super intimidated by the sport as a whole. One of the first things I noticed was the friendly attitude most climbers seem to carry naturally. Most everyone is willing to give pointers where welcome, offering their own tips and perspective on the problem you may be working on, allowing you to see it a little differently. All of the Crew members are equally as awesome. Friendly, happy to help and answer any questions, quick to respond to requests, knowledgeable and overall super approachable. The location itself is pretty large, especially compared to Carlsbad. With wood paneled walls, concrete floors and industrial-type details, it's beautifully designed. Upstairs there are some stationary bikes, rowing machines, a lounge and a bookcase for those who only come to accompany their climbers to enjoy, and a small yoga room with a sliding barn-style door that stays closed during classes (6:30am, 6:30pm and 7:45pm M-F). Downstairs there is some more equipment and a weights station where they hold the Climb Fit class. Vital is dog-friendly, so bring your pooch (as long as he/she is social and comfortable with other dogs and friendly climbers). Kids are allowed, too, but anyone 12 and under needs to be accompanied/spotted by an adult at all times, and kept off of the exercise equipment, which is for adults only. Climbing is fun for the entire family! Obviously, the actual climbing is the best part. The routes change frequently, so you're always finding new climbs to challenge yourself with. Mostly everyone is courteous and there is a great community feel amongst the climbers, beginners and experts alike. I am so stoked that Vital moved into Oceanside, and love getting here a least a few times a week. Do yourself a favor and give it a try - a day pass is $15 and the shoe rental will cost you $2 extra, and after one visit you may find yourself scraping your pennies together for a membership, because it's SO fun and so worth it! I have officially said goodbye to standard "gyms" forever. Thanks Vital! read more

As a longtime gym climber, the first thing I want from a gym is safety. I want a fall zone marked off on the mat with tape, and I want other climbers outside of my fall zone when I'm on the wall. Not only is Vital set up without any fall zones marked, the walls and angles are such that nearly half of the gym has no safe place to stand near the wall. Climbers didn't seem to know not to walk underneath others. I got really uncomfortable when I was on the wall and others were beneath me, because falls and landings are unpredictable when you challenge yourself. I hope Vital cleans this issue up, because otherwise, there was a lot to like. The light and the air in the gym are great. Everything feels so open. Prices are reasonable and the bathrooms/changing rooms were really nice. Routes were interesting, although there was a limited number of challenging options. Take all this with a grain of salt - it was one visit in April 2017. I'm sure the yelp ratings will be great, because this gym is great for introducing people to climbing-- we need that! But safety should come first. read more

A bouldering gym neighboring a bar (a good bar at that)?! That in itself merits a decent review ;) Great corner-most, downtown location. My first visit was on a drizzly Friday afternoon, even with the weather, their large [storefront-like] windows were wide open, allowing for a fresh feel throughout the gym. A spacious gym with lots of climbing routes varying in levels of difficulty. Upstairs they've got equipment, a studio for classes (yoga primarily, I'm assuming), couches and a chess/checkers board that I took full advantage of (checkmate!). Downstairs, aside from the climbing area, more equipment is housed in a training corner. If you're going to come to boulder (and you pay for the all-day pass) might as well get in some burpees, squats, arm curls, and Turkish get-ups with a kettle bell -just saying. $2 shoe rental. (Myriad of other products for purchase, of course...) The shoes are walled and ready for you to pull out yourself. The only thing between your feet and the person who wore the shoes before you's feet are fabric softening sheets. Kinda weird, but not a deterrent. Like other climbing gyms I've been to, this one certainly follows suit with the sort of "chill-spot" vibe. Couches everywhere, loungey-kitchen area, woodsy feel meets modern design. Where one star is lost is the weird sort of environment created by the climbers. Maybe it's due to being located adjacent to beer on tap, perhaps it's just the downtown hipsters, but I didn't like how so many people sit AND lie down on the mat watching others climb. I felt totally judged! I'm not the best climber, I'm not the worst, but avert your eyes! And they all seemed so comfortable, like frequent climbers with their chalk bags and such, that I approached feelings of intimidation and apprehension watching them watching me (and the friend that accompanied me). I also had my 6 year old son and 1 year old daughter with me and the aforementioned gym-goers seemed so bothered by the presence of my kiddos, whom I was vigilantly trying to keep out of people's climb space! I will very likely come back though! I still had tons of fun, as did my spawns. The people will come and go. I'd like to visit again on a day and at a time when fewer people are there. read more

The best place in Oceanside for yoga. Their class schedule has something for everyone's schedule, skill level, and tolerance of hot rooms and sweaty strangers. Great bouldering gym open 24/7 for members. One of the smaller gyms in San Diego County - I have been a member at The Wall Climbing Gym in Vista, Mesa Rim in Mira Mesa, and a regular visitor at the old Vertical Hold location. Regardless of size, the setting and the layout of the facility are great. The walls are well spaced so you never feel like you're sitting in someone's fall zone. HOWEVER: I enjoyed being a member with Vital Climbing, but things ended on a slightly sour note. I experienced a lot of trouble when it came time to cancel my membership due to a move back down to San Diego. I submitted an online cancellation form and received confirmation of cancellation, BUT my credit card was still charged for the next billing cycle in spite of the fact that I cancelled in the correct time frame to avoid payment. When I attempted to correct the issue by getting in contact with General Manager Luis Falero THREE TIMES via phone and email over the course of three weeks, Luis failed to get back to me, until after I had already spoken with my bank about the undue charge. That said...Overall, I highly recommend a membership with Vital! The staff is friendly, the facility is great, and the 24/7 access is invaluable! And there is NO initiation fee as an added bonus. read more

Not great if you have any kind of mental health disorder or are easily over stimulated by music. It feels like a constant rave and, as if the music isn't loud enough, they turn it up even louder during peak hours. Because I really want loud, thumbing, auto-tuned sounds swarming in my brain while I'm trying to think about where every muscle is. It's so loud, headphones would be pointless. There is 0 description of what the ClimbFit and yoga classes entail. I enjoy the ClimbFit class, but I'm still adjusting to it and the yoga has not been a pleasant experience. I've been out of town for a couple weeks, so I'm going to hope some changes have been made since I was last there, but I'm strongly considering cancelling. Especially considering yoga anywhere else would be costly and this membership would have to go to pay for it. Basically, if you have any kind of anxiety issues (which according to the ADA, 18% of the population are diagnosed with anxiety at some point in their lives) or any other kind of mental health issue aggravated by excessive environments, don't come here. If it wasn't the only climbing gym in the area, I wouldn't be putting myself through so much to try and make it work. It doesn't help the environment that they let people's dogs run around off leash and children are often unsupervised by their adults. During these same times, the limited staff is so slammed, I don't even know if they want to address such issues, because they can't. I've stopped going in the afternoon except for ClimbFit because it is such a disaster. But, again, haven't been in two weeks, I look forward to some changes. My husband and I are sorely disappointed and frustrated with how difficult it was to cancel our memberships. There was nothing wrong with the gym itself, the amenities and ambience were wonderful. I found out I was pregnant around early February and had to cancel for physical and financial reasons. At the same time my husband had to leave to Florida for his military training and will be gone for at least 10 months if not longer. I went in to cancel both, knowing that I we would still be charged for that month. I have no issue with it because I respect the policy. I was told they were both canceled. To my dismay, my credit card was charged a month later in March. I called again and, was told both were canceled. Then I was charged again in April. Then May. I tried numerous times to dispute the charges with my bank and they didn't refund me because the membership wasn't canceled properly. I was told to reach out to Stephanie and I did. She was very courteous, but said because it was my membership was canceled and not my husband's. I didn't realize his membership was being charged on my credit card and not his. As a result I can't get a refund back at all. If you are a patron of this gym or a staff member who took time out of your day to read this review, this unfortunate situation has a moral to it. MAKE SURE ANY MEMBERSHIP CANCELATION IS DOCUMENTED ON PAPER WHETHER IT IS VIA EMAIL OR A PHYSICAL COPY. That way it makes it easier to dispute charges with the bank if you keep being charged. This moral can also be applied to any type of membership at other establishments. This could have been easily preventable on Vital's side and on my side. I was planning on coming back after giving birth in October, but after this experience I have no desire to go anywhere near this gym. My husband and I will definitely not be coming back if he gets stationed back in San Diego. We are no longer angry, just very discouraged and disappointed. read more

Came here for the first time! It's not as easy as one might think; the climbing that is! People and staff are friendly and the place is exceptionally clean and organized! The view of the building from the street is spectacular and draws attention to the eyes! This place is a must visit for anyone if you're looking for a nice workout, or just looking to have fun! Checked this place out three days ago with the fiancé. We got the day pass and it was a blast for the both of us! The atmosphere was extremely welcoming, met lots of friendly people from the crew to other climbers. Difficulty ranged from beginner to advanced. All ages were climbing and enjoying themselves. There is a rack of weights, dumbells and barbells as well. Upstairs has some rowing machines and a yoga room with a full size mirror. Definitely will be coming back, hopefully sooner rather than later. read more

I signed up for a membership in Carlsbad a few months back, and immediately checked out the Oceanside gym after it opened up. It's huge and has a plentiful amount of climbs to attempt! It's very crowded during the day, so I prefer to go during the early morning or late at night. As a member, it's open 24/7, which is so handy. They have a great set up of free weights here which is great if anybody is looking to do some weight training and climbing. They also offer yoga classes and something called "Climb Fit" which I've never tried due to my busy work schedule. read more

I went today and was greeted by staff as I walked in, Adrian checked me in for my day pass, which is a great deal since you can use all of the facility and then if you decide to leave to go grab some food or sit by the beach for a while you can come back anytime that same day to pick up where you left off!! Any questions I had were answered and I could tell Adrian was knowledgeable in every aspect of that gym! They have so much to offer and I will be back to try out yoga and hop on that slack line to work on balance. I almost don't want to give Vital a 5 star review, because it's too good to be true. I am a member here, and although I don't rock climbing I go to their yoga classes 4-5 times a week. A few years ago I started doing yoga at Crunch fitness in San Marcos, and fell in love. I was seeking more challenging and frequent classes. I joined a studio, but it became unaffordable. A good friend and yogi told me 'you should never have to pay that much for Yoga.' Vital makes Yoga affordable, offers classes started at 6:30am, throughout the day, and the last class ending close to 9pm. The quality of classes are amazing. The sense of community is great. The staff is friendly. They offer workshops feee to members on a regular basis. I have had nothing but positive experiences at Vital Oceanside, and even commute up from Encinitas. I hope they expand the yoga program, because the classes are becoming crowded, but have good faith in the innovative staff in finding solutions. read more

I love that they have the early morning class right before work. This place is amazing! We were visiting Oceanside and a friend recommended we go here. We brought our 19 year old daughter and 17 year old son along with his 15 year old friend. They had a blast climbing! There are walls available at all levels. They also have yoga classes and aerial silks class. My daughter and I will be coming back for the beginner silks class tomorrow. The facility is welcoming and modern and the staff is extremely friendly. We happened to arrive on their 2 year anniversary and hung out for over 3 hours. Highly recommended! read more

I am giving this business 3 stars because the two men at the front gave me great customer service. However, I came here to take the Silks Yoga class (noon-with Daisy) for the first time. I had invited my friend so we both were very excited to try something new. My friend and I waited near the other students and instructor for the noon class to begin. Not once did Daisy greet us, look at us/make eye contact with us, nothing. The class began and my friend and I still had no clue as for where to stand, what to do, or even knew what was even going on. We did not feel welcomed at all as the rest of the class and the instructor seemed to have known each other very well. All I expected at the very least was to be acknowledged as a "human being." There was no way I could stay where I didn't feel welcome so I asked the two men at the front if we could get our money back and shared my experience with them. They apologized, understood the situation, and we were given a refund. If the instructor had been more welcoming and friendly I would consider giving this place 4/5 stars. read more

First class indoor climbing gym. Building is open on three sides, feels like being outside without the messy sunscreen. Every type of bouldering offered - Cave, slab, climb over and top out. Most areas also have down climb holds to make downclimbing less traumatic. Cool, helpful staff made up of real climbers. read more

I belong to a bouldering gym down in San Diego city and when I saw this place while at a friends party across the street, I had to check it out. The staff there were super laid back and very helpful, some places can have a snobby vibe but it seemed like everyone here wanted to just have a good time. The guests were nice as well, had a good conversation with other people working on the same climbs as I was. Now, one important thing to me is the music; it can make or break my mood. This place was playing a great variety and a lot of classic rock, which I seriously appreciated. I wanted to move to north county and was bummed I'd have to give up my climbing gym so I was so stoked when I found this place, two locations at a reasonable price? I'm down! read more
