I usually climb in the east bay (pacific pipe anyone?) but was home for thanksgiving so I decided to get day passes and climb here twice. Awesome little spot, not super big but plenty of fun problems and the staff was super nice! I loved the door problem!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with the best friend. It was our first time here, so we had a little difficulty locating the place, but once we found it, we were ready to get our climb on! We were greeted immediately by the one man staff it looked like. He was very informative. He handed us some forms to fill out and from there, it's $10.00 to climb! Shoe rentals are $2.00 if you want them. He explained the routes and how it works after we were set to go. There were a handful of children climbing but besides that it wasn't crowded, we could sit around and watch other climbers. It was a fun time! Definitely a good workout. The atmosphere is really cool. With a living room like upstairs area, and a nice big couch downstairs. I think membership is $45.00/month with 24/7 access. I don't do this enough for one, but it's pretty cool.

Doing out of the hallway, I made it this far. They changed it the next time I went.

VITAL also sent me an email to wish me a happy birthday and I was scratching my head as to how I got on their email list and I think what happened is that I have climbed VITAL in Brooklyn before (like years ago), so thats how I got on the list. I didnt realize they were all connected, so super cool to know this! And they offered me a free day to climb so of course this little gym rat showed up! This is a really nice all bouldering gym and I really enjoyed my time here! I still like Mesa Rim the best but this gym is purely for bouldering and I am biased towards all bouldering gyms!! Alex helped me out and was very nice. He had me fill out a waiver, you do have to watch a 2 minute video about how climbing is dangerous and how to fall. I loved this gym because everything felt spacious but also not a lot of people today so that was cool. They also had a lot of their windows and doors opened so a great breeze coming in and just the perfect day to boulder!! I spent about 2 hours here and there were mostly men climbing. This one guy that was climbing was so built that I had trouble focusing on my climbs vs staring at him. He was very nicely chiseled and chose not to wear a shirt, so I was drooling a bit haha. He was cute for sure and we even exchanged a few glances, wink wink! The routes here weren't intuitive for me. They use a color coding system here like Bouldering Project but it was odd to me that some graded easy climbs I had difficult with and then some that are supposed to be hard, I easily climbed those...I couldnt figure out what was going on... There are 4 bathrooms on the bottom floor and a few have showers in them too. Bathrooms were clean and nice. There is an upstairs area thats for yoga classes and also an area where they have ellipticals and bikes. I very much enjoyed climbing here and definitely will be back. Im considering either punch passes or maybe pull the trigger and join, but Oside is a little bit far for me to come regularly. I wish they had a location in Del Mar lol. When I was leaving a bunch of women showed up and aerial silk class was about to start so thats really cool they offer that too! Was so cool to see the colorful silks hang from the ceiling! Overall, an awesome experience! Thank you for my free climb birthday gift and Im definitely coming back!!

Mellow Friday Evening Session with Ocean Breeze at Vital Climbing Gym…read more Came in on a Friday evening around 7pm and it was surprisingly not packed at all -- perfect timing! One side had a class going on while the free climbers had the other side to themselves. The floors are super soft and bouncy, which makes it feel safe (great for teens or anyone worried about falls). The music and overall noise level stayed low, giving the whole place a nice mellow, relaxed vibe. Being an open structure, the ocean breeze sweeps right through and feels refreshing, especially on a warm evening. You could even hear the occasional motorcycle drive by on Coast Hwy, but that was the only real outside noise. I noticed a lot of stretching happening, so if you're into yoga or want a good change-up from just climbing, this seems like a solid spot for that too. Overall, a chill and welcoming environment. Definitely a nice way to unwind after the week.

On a Sunday afternoon, this place was pretty empty which is my favorite. A lot of teenagers in here doing top rope mainly, which made for even less people bouldering. Some very good climbs here and they have the same concept of climb over walls and one slab wall. I enjoyed all of it. This is a bare bones facility and the locker room pretty tiny but it has everything you need. There is a weight/exercise area right next to the bouldering walls, no treadmills here. Staff very nice and lots of parking available. It seemed they had the air con on but it was still so hot in the gym. I turned on a big fan they had, that helped a lot! I'd definitely come back to this gym again. I like the not having to share bouldering with others because I can really focus and practice as much as I like.

The entire second floor is dedicated for bouldering, which is pretty cool! Lockers were nice and sauna also available too! There were a lot of people on xmas eve but everyone was respectful and bouldering was easy here. My only gripe was the parking issue for this facility. They also have another location in Mission Valley. The front desk staff were polite and efficient, but the interactions felt a bit corporate rather than a genuinely warm welcome. Sign the waiver before you arrive to make things go faster! ---- There's a LOT of amenities here for climbing, fitness, and yoga. They even have a ping pong table and sauna! I really love their website where you can take a virtual tour of their gym, allows you to see the layout of their massive gym. - Strength training area near the front entrance has all the equipment that you'd expect from a full gym including both free weights and cable machines - The cardio area upstairs has treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machine - Ping Pong table located upstairs near the cardio area! ---- There are several different bouldering sections with a variety of routes. When it's busy, the cave bouldering section can be a bit crowded because of their small seating area there. The other sections seem to have enough space though. I would not reccomend this gym for beginners or first time climbers, a lot of the beginner routes are discouraging for true beginners. I came with some friends who were somewhat familiar to climbing and they were saying that the V0s are a bit tough to do. Besides the V0s, the grading is on par with Grotto. I haven't top roped here so I can't speak on that but the area seems to be quite large as well. ---- Something I really appreciate is that they offer free entry days and rentals for anyone a couple of times a year! - API celebration in May - Pride celebration in June Keep an eye out for these days on their upcoming events or their social media if you want to try out this gym or if you want to bring your friends for free! Day passes are $31 and monthly memberships are $110 (+ $100 intimation fee). They have other rates on their website for prepaid options and punch passes. A little thing that I also really like is that they have a suggestion box if you have anything you want to say. ---- Overall: Huge gym, amazing facilities and amenities, nice staff but didn't feel genuinely welcoming, look for the free entry and rental days to try this gym out

The front desk was polite and efficient but may be a bit corporate than warm. Tip: sign the waiver before you arrive. Lots of lockers for your use (bring a lock), some showers available but its no frills. This place doesn't have air con and it was hot to climb today. I was sweating a good amount but did clear some V3s, so that was cool! I like climbing when its bit cooler so my hands aren't sweaty. There are two climbover walls and another small wall in the back. The thing is you are also sharing space with top ropers, etc , so the space felt very cramped. Excellent bouldering gym!…read more I have a 2 week pass and had the opportunity to climb this evening here. Ive been to the Poway and San Marcos location but this one must be their flagship location. Its pretty big and a good amount of bouldering here but its also a gym for indoor rope climbing too. I like this location the best as its pretty big and doesn't feel as cramped. But there are lots of reasons why I probably wont be coming here regularly. For one, parking is a bit of a pain. I parked under an overpass bridge but was a bit worried of leaving my car there as there's a big sign that says no parking but saw lots of cars parked there too, so trusted it. The workers here at this gym were super nice and told me no problem to park there. But, parking is a serious situation. I also am not in this area much so this would only be a climbing gym I stop in occasionally. But, what I will say is that the routes are hard here but they are good. I enjoyed a lot of the routes I tried, I didn't complete all of them, but still fun to try and challenge yourself. There was also a lot of people given how much bouldering is available but thats because its San Diego. Im fine with that, just needs to take a little getting used to. I definitely enjoyed this experience and will definitely be back, this is on rotation for me as part of my physical activity schedule. Really nice bouldering here. Thanks!!
