Training area

My friend and I stopped by on a Friday morning because we were in Carlsbad for a wedding and wanted to get a workout in before the festivities. Luckily we were able to find this F45 Training space that was 5 mins from where we were staying so we signed up online and paid the $20 first class drop in fee. We showed up about 10 mins before class and were the first ones there. We were introduced to the coach and the owner who were both really friendly and welcoming. They asked if we had taken a F45 workout before and while I technically hadn't, I told him I was familiar with cross training workouts and hiit workouts so he only had to briefly walk us through the format and what to expect. Right before the class, a lot of people started showing up within a few minutes. It went from 3 people to 35 real fast and for a space that small, it got to be really crowded at times. It was also surprising to me that a class was that full at 8am on a Friday morning but the crowd was definitely the stay at home mom/dad crowd. The workout itself was good and fast paced, 8 stations of light weight/body weight exercises. Being a seasoned athlete, it was easy enough to follow along and get through all the challenges but with the tv monitors on the walls to explain the movements, it's self-explanatory for new people as well. There was only one "Coach" for the entire class but she wasn't really coaching on form or making any modifications from what I could see, moreso hyping people up and navigating people as they rotated to the different stations. The only negative that I have is the owner (who again, super nice Australian guy) jumped into the workout with us (awesome, very cool) finished early and proceeded to walk around shirtless, sweaty and BAREFOOT on the mats. Maybe it's just me but people walking barefoot in the gym is a personal pet peeve and major ICK, especially when I was just touching/laying on that floor. Other than that, the workout was a good sweat for a travel day and everyone was really friendly and welcoming. It felt like a lot of people there were regulars and they offer community events so I can see if you're looking for a place to start your workout/fitness journey, this would be a good place to check out. They also provide sweat towels when you walk in and there's a full shower and restroom in the very back.

TRUST THOSE WHO YELP REGULARLY... Ok, so I've been working out at gyms for 30+ years. I've done the 24 Hour Fitness thing, was into CrossFit for a year, take part in all kinds of sports, and have [seemingly] always kept an active, fit lifestyle. I wondered into this F45 gym one day and found it to be an intimate space for a bunch of sweaty animals. I was hesitant, but reached back 6 months later and decided to join for 60 days... that seemed a reasonable commitment for trying a new place like this. My first week was tough with personal distractions, but I made it in twice. The next week... three workouts. By week three, I was so jazzed about this place that I attended classes Mon-Fri religiously. #HOOKED I was spending 90+ minutes at 24 Hour and now I was getting BETTER workouts in just 45 minutes. My cardio fitness has improved, I've put on muscle (something guys always want), and I've found there's a tremendous social side to this business. I've met some great coaches with REAL training and skills (not like the online course peeps at 24 Hour) who watch us workout, often times providing 1-on-1 training, explanations, and support. Meeting members of all abilities who want to get/remain fit has been a huge plus for me... and I can't wait for tomorrow... Highly Recommended

My first experience with F45 training was back in July '23. I was in the Carlsbad area for a wedding, and my sister wanted me to join her for an early morning workout. I was hesitant to jump into a "group fitness class," but the experience was actually life-changing. I've spent years in regular gyms, doing the same old workouts over and over, and not really seeing the results I desired. Jason and his coaches opened my eyes to a whole new world of functional HIIT training. The facility is clean and well-equipped, the coaches are positive, helpful, and encouraging, and the other members are always welcoming. Now, when I pack for a trip to North County, San Diego, I grab my shortest shorts and sign up for classes at F45 Training -- Carlsbad Poinsettia.

We have an amazing community!!

So many friendships are made in our studio.

I absolutely love this place! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the coaches are top notch! Jason, Wes, Taryn, Jaz, Emily, Mandie!!! I was very skeptical about class training but have learned so much from the functional fitness classes offered here. Aside from weight lifting, there is a full gym complete with cardio equipment, free weights, benches and cross-training tools. They just got new Ski and bike ERG's to go with their Row ERGs. I took a functional movement exam with Jasmine, and this has helped so much with my form and technique. The coaches provide excellent instruction and makes training so fun! I recommend anyone in SD check this place out. You will not regret it!

Light, bright, and stunning. And spotless. The whole studio team - owner, front of the house, instructors - are warm, welcoming, and fun. The overall vibe of the space is also great. Members seem to know and like one another, and were very welcoming in in my first few weeks as I was checking it out. In terms of the workout, it's different... in a very good way. Think functional strength training meets mobility meets longevity-focused exercise. Some of the moves are different than anything I've done in a workout before, but after getting through the novelty, I started to realize how smart they are. There is a method to the madness. The classes are so good, thanks both to the methodology and the skillset of the instructors. I ended up joining the studio with an unlimited membership, and I'm so glad I did. It comes with the online membership, which is great for quick workouts on the days I can't make it in for a full 50 minute experience.

I saw the PVOLVE sign go up last summer (2023) and was curious about what it was and what PVOLVE stood for (Personal Evolution - by the way). Before it even opened I looked it up, read about the methodology (https://www.pvolve.com/pages/method) and history, even called Kristin (owner of Carlsbad location). I was so intrigued. I'm over 50, not an athlete and haven't really had any fitness goals up to this point. BUT now with my kiddos being old enough to take care of themselves (well, kind of, you know boys!) I thought this was THE chance I had to start taking care of myself and become part of a community that feels the same. I've been consistently going to Pvolve for a month now. I hate gyms, don't like jumpy-jumpy high-impact workouts and was uncomfortable at some of the other Carlsbad studios. So I gave this a try The emphasis at Pvolve is on low-impact movement. It's called functional fitness. It focuses on intentional moves using unique equipment (they provide) and a ton of balance (you learn this). It's actually HARDER to do leg lifts or arm weights in slooow motion. You focus your moves. It's really cool. It's so fun to watch yourself get stronger and your balance get keener. One of the largest reasons I chose Pvolve was that the founder, Rachel Katzman (who has Scoliosis - as do I) created a fitness program along with doctors, physical therapists and other health professionals (Clinical Advisory Board) that addresses strength and mobility. This fitness model is PERFECT for all women, especially for us in our menopausal stages! I'm gaining muscle strength, mobility and balance on a weekly basis. The workouts are tough, but I feel so good afterwards! I can really feel the difference. They offer a free class, so you can try it out. It's worth it! The studio is full of wonderful people and it's super clean - they even sanitize their equipment after each use. There's a locker room, lockers, a vanity bar with wonderful products to use and 2 clean bathrooms. Lastly - there is a filtered water bottle filler - I literally come with an EMPTY container so I can fill it there. It's the BEST water! lol

The amount of support that I receive from coaches and fellow athletes alike is something I wouldn't have believed existed, or known that I needed, until I experienced it firsthand. Instead of standing in line for equipment, we share and make sure everyone is taken care of. Instead of awkward silence in common areas, there is laughter and camaraderie. Instead of putting in my hour of exercise and clocking out for the day, there is constant motivation and support to better my health through nutrition challenges & resources. Everyone is cheered and celebrated equally - from the chubby girl in her first class doing the most scaled versions imaginable (that was me!) to the mutant superstar doing 48" box jumps and handstand push-ups like they're nothing (still not me, but maybe someday?). People in all walks of life and in all stages of fitness are welcomed into the fold. This community support is the foundation on which all of my accomplishments and improvements have been built. I can't say enough great things about the owners and coaches. This special place is clearly a product of their passion for helping people be their best selves. The class sizes are never too large for the coach to give everyone personal attention and instruction on the technical movements. Even with someone as uncoordinated as myself who needs things explained to them every time like it's my first time, they're patient and generous with their attention and help. With their help, I've done so many things I'd never imagined myself doing (HSPU and rope climbs? Ahhh!). In FLxR's walls, I have celebrated many many firsts and PRs. I feel stronger and more confident in my body's abilities than I've ever felt in my life. I've gone from dreading WOD every day to wanting, or rather NEEDING it (it's better than therapy). I'm no longer obese, no longer pre-diabetic, am completely anti-depressant free and thriving... I can't wait to see where I am in another year! I highly recommend FLxR to anyone looking to become a better, healthier version of you. Whether you're just starting down that road and looking for a judgment-free zone to start in, or you're already bad-ass and looking to improve your next open scores to the top 1%... or anywhere in between, I think there is no better place to do it. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~~~~~~~~ My original Review, from 2017: I drank the kool aid. I joined the cult. I fell in love with cross fit. Today is the last day of my one-month groupon and I am signing on to be a regular member. The first week was scary and intimidating. I came in overweight, NOT in shape, and terrified of all the scary looking equipment and giant weights. But the awesome coaches and friendly classmates helped me through it. No one ever made me feel silly for having to use the training bar with no weights on it while the gal next to me is lifting a bar bigger than she is. And i didn't receive an ounce less of encouragement. Every workout i survived felt like an accomplishment, boosting my self-esteem and desire to come back. The second week was hard and reluctant. I was tired and sore. There were days I took the 'just get yourself here' very literally and told myself I'd just show up and half-ass it - but of course the motivation in the air is so infectious, it's impossible to not give it your all once you're there. By the third week, it had become a staple in my day. There are days when I'm excited and can't wait for the class, and there are other days I come in tired/stressed/sore/depressed/hungover dragging myself in and whining through the warmup, but every time I leave at the end of the class i feel like a rockstar and have no pain, am full of energy, and with a big smile on my face. And the times when a trainer notices my progress and comments on it, it sends my mood soaring even higher. In the month I've been coming (5 days a week), I've lost 13lbs and one pants size. my body feels firmer. i can see muscle definition peeking out from under the receding fat. but forget all of that (yeah that's the reason i initially signed up, but now it's only a happy side effect) now i'm more excited that I'm finally off the training bar and onto the big girl bar and adding weights to it. That i'm able to finish the workouts. That i'm already down-scaling considerably less than I was a month ago. These accomplishments make me feel better about myself. I feel stronger and more powerful... I feel confident and motivated. I feel happier and healthier. I feel good. All of these factors together have contributed to me making more progress than I'd imagined was possible in only one month.

Each station has a designated number and you're placed in groups of 2-3 people with the option of choosing from two different workouts at each section. Kayleigh made sure I was paired with a seasoned F45 member, since it was my first time. Every group is assigned a number and rotate to the next workout section. The coaches assist as needed and there are tv displays that demo how to do each workout, when to begin the sets, pause, and move to the next station. Kayleigh and Jacob did a 5 star job. I appreciate how clean and organize they kept the gym. Their process is great and it worked for me. If they weren't assisting, they were organizing the equipment or cleaning. They stayed engaged with the group - all this at 5:30 AM and there was a lot of us. Thank you for the great experience!!
