Vista fries

GODDAMN!!! I was bummed when this place closed because of COVID and the riots, and totally thrilled to see them open sign back up in January 2021. We got a giant sope campechana, which is basically the most delicious Mexican pizza I've ever had, and the Vista Fries, which is every drunk/stoner munchie wet dream: fries, flaming hots, carne asada, nacho cheese, and jalapenos. HUGE portions, quick & friendly customer service, COVID-friendly prices, and Black Lives Matter signs out front. Great bang for your buck. Doesn't matter if you're old school Mexican from the neighborhood or a gentrifying hipster--give this gem of a spot your money and eat their food!

Really nice customer service. I regularly order a torta at these little Mexican restaurants, and normally they come with chips and salsa or rice and beans. This restaurant served very nicely seasoned fries with my torta. Normally, I would prefer the chips and salsa, but the fries were so good I didn't mind. Also, the sauces and torta were very good as well. The decor was a more modern approach to a little Mexican restaurant. They have a beautiful mural (I posted a photo of it) on the outside wall and only stools inside, no formal tables. They are very open to social media support. Please post for them.

So far, and after many, many mexican restaurants this should be on my top 3, maybe even number one. Once you walk in and sit (wherever you want) the waitress will come and deliver hand made red salsa (spicy and warm as they make a new batch everyday) and homemade tortilla chips (they actually bake their tortillas and deep fry them (and even tho they make it here the chips are not greasy or oily at all) which makes the flavor incredible. All the food is to die for, the Chile Relleno is perfectly cooked with the egg batter and a great non spicy red sauce which brings out the flavor of the chile (also comes with beans, rice and salad). Then the Shrimp Ceviche, cooked on lime juice like a tartar and mixed with diced onion, cilantro, red tomatoe and Chile verde will make your mouth drool while looking at it and after the first bite you won't be able to stop.

The food at Vista Hermosa is exceptional! Very tasty and well prepared and you can chose among many menu options. I love the service at the place the owners are super friendly with the guests and always takes care to offer the best quality. One word AMAZING! I highly recommend this place. If your near by don't forget to to stop by and try them out you wont regret it.

Steak Taco's on Taco Tuesday for $1

Taco Tuesdays has bought me here. $1 Taco's with steak included please stand up. Wow! I ordered 10 tacos, and yes they take cards payments as well, I received them hot and ready in less than 10 minutes. The tacos was flavorful, filling and saucy. Pay .25 for cheese.

Okay, this place is growing on me. I really enjoy the fresh warm salsa. I ordered the giant sope (first time ever) and that thing was massive. My fault, I forgot to ask if beans come on it, but next time I'll know. Luckily it wasn't too overpowering and she offered to make me another, but I declined. Not her fault. Chill place. I like how we can just sit and enjoy our meal and they will come check on us once in a while.

Corn tortilla! The towels were hand embroidered on the edges and the center has a cute pineapple!

I came here because their story of opening their dream restaurant appealed to me. I also usually don't eat around the Back of the Yards area. I was a little nervous if I would be able to find this place. It's next to the tire shop, on of the few buildings on the 4200 Ashland block. The inside decor is a mix of simple and quaint. I sat in the middle facing the front door. The view of the walls and door from the inside was cute! Blue with white trim. One wall was blank, and the painted other wall was covered with curtains. Not sure why. Servers are quite attentive. Our main server was being trained so another server watched her as she took our orders. I ordered the Combinacion Vistas Hermosas for our appetizer. The Piquaditas were delicious! The queso Fresca was absolute delicious and fresh. I originally came because I was craving chorizo, and therefore had the Huevos Cochina (spicy cactus sauce, chorizo, pinto beans, rice, and eggs). The other order was grilled shrimp with salad, rice, and fries. I didn't see this on the menu on Yelp. The shrimp was crispy and flavorful. The rice was yellow rice with bits of potatoes and onion. The salad had a slice of avocado, but did not come with a dressing. We also received a basket of corn tortilla. On the menu there is a line that says something along the lines of, "Our service may be slow, but it's not because our servers are slow, everything is made to order." It's a great place to slowly enjoy your food and chat. The salsa that came with the perfect amount of chips was more watery than I had expected, but had the right amount of spicy flavor (it was orange). I enjoyed the music. The TV screen, however, is like a Spanish version of MTV, but the music on the screen didn't match what was playing on the stereo speakers. I would definitely come back for the Piquaditas. The burrito I saw someone else order was huge. Another patron's bowl of menu was as big as the basket our chips came in.

This sope is Giant!!! But is amazing!!

My first time in this restaurant and is a nice place to eat! It looks clean and the best part is when they give you the small soup to start while you wait for your food. That is a great welcoming. Also i love how they bring a big bottle of water so whenever you run out of water you can just serve more without having to wait or ask the waitress. The salsa was great and warm with the chips, delicious!! I ordered a sope and it was really big!! No wonder why they call it Giant. It was delicious and crispy. Overall it was a great experience I will come back again!!

Best homemade tortillas... Linda was very helpful and offered service with a smile... it is small but cozy enough for a quick lunch!

Huevos Cochinos (minus the chorizo) & a Chicken Sope Gigante. Freakin DELICIOUS!!!

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. One of those dinners where you leave already talking about when you're coming back If you're looking for the place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, date night, tacos & margaritas, or honestly just an incredible dinner in general... this is IT

I arrived at the restaurant on time (4:30) and checked in with the hostess, who said I could only be seated when the entire group of three arrived. This seemed weird given the restaurant was pretty empty at this time, and ordinarily I'd order a drink while waiting at the table. Regardless, I went to Starbucks instead because I knew the other two were a few minutes behind. When I got back to the restaurant, my friend said the hostess told him we absolutely had to leave within 1.5 hours because we were late... which seemed odd because he may have checked in 15 minutes after our reservation, to an empty restaurant, that already refused to seat me on time. Regardless, the food was delicious. I had the Pollo in ChiChilo-- the mole was delicious, and I loved the chicken and sweet potato. I ordered the mole on the side, which seemed like a nice balance. Since the hostess wouldn't previously seat me, I had a lovely iced matcha latte with oat milk and half a pump of vanilla from Starbucks, which was a nice pairing. The waiter did ask if I wanted a shot of something with it, which seemed odd. Ambiance was cute, probably due for a renovation but seemed appropriate for most dining out occasions- dates, families, a day out in town. Note: the restaurant charges an automatic 20% gratuity which may explain the service. Keep this in mind to avoid tipping more than you intend. Overall, I would definitely come back, and the food and wait staff made up for the abrasive welcome.
