First things first if you sit down to eat they will serve you soup and chips with 3 different sauces the cheese sauce in the middle is deceptively hot I got the tampiquena plate and it was so amazing, meat cooked to perfection the flour tortilla incredibly soft and the cebollas were delicious, the servers were very receptive and nice, quick to help and extremely fast ambiance would have been better if the ac was not broken, the food was something I would recommend to people that want a quick comfort dinner. read more

I used to love this restaurant until I ordered a milanesa de pollo and the chicken tasted weird. Later I realized it was because the chicken had already gone bad and they still served it like that. I spoke to the waiter about it and she complained that I didn't tell her right away however It wasn't until I took off everything and smelled the chicken that I noticed the awful smell. Stopped in for breakfast with my mom and she really enjoyed this restaurant. They start you off with a complimentary small cup of soup which hit the spot on a chilly morning. The waitress then delivered some fresh chips and 3 different salsas to our table. We ordered 2 coffees that were served in clay mugs just like in Mexico which made it taste even better. She ordered the chilaquiles with huevo and cecina and the portion was more than enough for my mom. The waitress then dropped off some homemade corn tortillas that are made by a woman who is making them nonstop in a station set up close to the dining area. My coffee cup was never empty because the attentive waitress would top it off as she walked by our table. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone that is in the area. read more

This is my favorite breakfast. Guevos aporreados. Nice and hot cafe de olla. 3 different salsas with chips. Home made tortillas made in front of you. I don't like the fact that nobody welcomes you. Nobody tells you if you should pick a table yourself or wait to be seated. So let me help you out and tell you to pick any table that is available. It is super packed on weekends so if your starving this is not the place specially if you have a big family. Tortillas are hand made and legit. Las Esperanzas is one of those great corner neighborhood restaurants. You walk in and seat yourself or go up to the counter if you want to place your order for take out. When I went for lunch today, I sat down and was immediately greeted by my waitress who brought me a menu. After placing my order, she brought me chips with two salsas and a cup of soup that came with my meal. I was not in the mood for soup considering it was almost 90 degrees outside, but it was ok-it had macaroni, celery and potatoes. A few minutes later however, the steaming skillet of fajitas arrived. The shrimp and veggies were delicious- hot, fresh, well-seasoned; they also brought me the beans, rice and salad that went along with it. I was thoroughly stuffed afterwards and spent around $12 for my meal, which was a great price. I found it to be a great choice for Mexican food with friendly service. read more

Their burritos here are the bomb. Be warned there is like a 80 cent surcharge for using credit card. The burritos are around $7 each and filled to the brim with rice, beans, delicious meats (I get the steak), lettuce, and tomatoes. I saw them making their tortillas from scratch and the tortillas are nicely charred on the outside which is a nice touch. The place also has a lunch buffet for an incredible price on certain days of the week. My coworkers are picky eaters but we all agree that the burritos here are awesome. Street parking is available but can be hit or miss here. You can sit at the bar when you dine in or at the tables. read more

YUM YUM YUM. I have been meaning to write about this place. They are FFFFaLLLLLLaAAAAMMMMEEE!!!! The food is Yum-A-Rific! The place is a nice size, kind of dark but has art on the walls. (They have a ton of plants by the front window, which i am not a big fan of). I have ordered everything here, seafood platter (tri-color was ok), tacos, burritos, huaraches, quesadillas, caldos. All were mmm-good. They also delivered and hope they continue to do so. I know they are under construction now, but can not wait for them to open those doors up again to go have some deliciousness. I absolutely love this restaurant in Back of the Yards. There are very few restaurants in the area that have quality food AND service. We love them so much, that we catered trays of food from them for our Christmas Eve dinner. Now, my husbands family can be very picky about their food. Well let me tell you, they were impressed. Our favorite meal to share is El Volcán. You can't go wrong with their enchiladas or breakfasts (mmmm chilaquiles). Their tacos de al pastor are also VERY delicious. read more

Well, another one bites the dust. I have been going here since it opened a few years ago. the service was as good as it can get for a mexican joint in the 47th st. The other night was by far the worst service I have received. To all severs in the back of the yards area, check on your customers. Don't bring them food that is greasy and not bring them any refills. By the way the torta cubana was very very greasy.
