I was told something like $29, but I ended up being charged $172. One of the itemized charges was $69.00 for a prescription, which Dr. Martin said I didn't really need. It was for night driving, which is still a very minor issue, and the correction was optional. I should have been informed that just writing an optional prescription was $69!!!!

My family has been going there for years and our last pleasurable visit inspired us to tell others here in a review. All the staff there are warm, friendly and very knowledgable. The exams are always very thorough, the consultations are honest and clear, the service level from initial greeting to walking out with your perfectly adjusted new glasses is top notch. They were even able to teach my son the easy way to put in contacts (never thought he'd do it...) Thanks to both Dr. Galehdari and Dr. Martin and the entire staff.

I set an appointment a month ago. Received multiple texts and emails confirming the appointment…read moreincluding a text and email the night before said appointment. I show up for the appointment after taking a day off of work to get my eye exam and am told "we don't have a Dr today we left you a voice-mail but your cell service must be down since you didn't get it." If they were calling me to cancel, why did they continue to send me reminders of my scheduled exam? I counted 5 unique reminders in just the week prior to the appointment. Yet somehow I am treated like someone stupid who doesn't check my voice-mail. It's un acceptable behavior from a company where I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and have frequented this location since they opened it. Not just me but my entire family come every year and buy glasses and contacts. Well we used to, but no more. To cancel an appointment which was scheduled for so long and not even offer any sort of apology? If I didn't show up for an appointment I am certain they would have charged me a fee for the missed appointment, but when it's them canceling, they couldn't care less. So disappointing, do yourself a favor and find somewhere else...I know I am.

Dr. Leishman amazed me, because he took time to be very careful and he explained in detail all that he was doing. There was no "rush her in and out" attitude here. I have regular appointments due to ongoing treatment up at the University Hospital. On three…read moreseparate appointment dates I have stopped by the Optical Shop at Moran and attempted to buy glasses. The first two attempts I sat and waited without any acknowledgment of my presence despite the fact that I was sitting in a chair right in the middle of three sales people. I just dealt with it because they were all helping someone. After an hour waiting I was still 100% invisible. It was super strange. So, oh well. I decide to stop in this morning right when they opened and I was indeed the only customer. A couple employees were chatting with each other another dude was on the phone and then some guy walks toward me after about 15 min. I thought GREAT! He walked right by me sat at his desk and said nothing. You'd think I had a booger on my face or something. I approached him gently and said: "Are you able to help me?" He said "I'm busy doing something right now" SERIOUSLY MAN! The last time I checked the very high price of glasses come with a pretty plump profit margin! Maybe that's why no-one seems to care. The place feels like a used car dealership. I won't try again.

This is the best place in Salt Lake City to have your prescription made into eyeglasses. My…read moreexperiences at other opticians in town have been horrific, and many of my eyeglasses had the wrong lenses installed or the tint was completely off. I was in this business in the late 1970s, and I know what makes a professional optician. It has nothing to do with the frames offered or the shop's high prices. An optician needs to take proper measurements, advise you on fit and size of the frame for your particular face, and most importantly, the optician must follow up with the lab to make sure the lab is following the doctor's prescription and the patent's requests. Pat Shaw at the Moran Eye Center Opticians on the main floor is a master. I walked in skeptical, with my weird European frames in hand, ready to "direct" and "supervise" the making of my lenses. Pat, with a ready laugh and a professional disposition, handled my "demands" with aplomb, totally diffusing my skepticism. He knew what I wanted and would take care of it. Today, just a few days later, I picked up my pairs of glasses, and they were perfect. I can finally see something after my cataract surgery, and the tints were perfect! Not only were my lenses superb, the prices were amazingly reasonable. I am one happy dude!

The downside is there are sooo many frames I found myself getting overwhelmed. After awhile they were looking all the same. Hence the reason I was there. I switched insurance companies at the beginning of the year, and my regular eye Dr wasn't on the list so I decided to check out ShopKo Optical. As soon as I entered the door, I was greeted by smiling faces. I was checked in within less than five minutes. Wow that's what I call service and with a smile no less. The new experience with the Dr went really smooth, and he answered all my questions. I only had a slight change in my eyes so I was happy about that. Glasses take about a week to make, so you will need to make another appointment to come back. On the return appointment I was in and out within 20 minutes. They did say that I could bring in my own sunglass frames and they would replace the lenses with my prescription for just the cost of the lenses. Parking is a nightmare as they share the parking lot with the bar next door.
