If only zero stars was an option. Avoid this establishment like the plague. Long story short, Dr. Kiernan and her staff have no interest in providing accurate or helpful eye care and operate with zero integrity. They do not advertise their zero refund policy because they know they are providing poor service. A decent business would maintain an accommodating refund policy as a show of confidence in the quality of their output. Visionworks, at the both the branch and corporate levels, does the opposite because they only care about optometry as a matter of profit, not health. The staff are rude, juvenile, and unhelpful. The optometrist is condescending and rushed. I missed two days of work to go to appointments at this location and was taken in over 30 minutes late both times and given the wrong prescription information both times. I was rushed out the door the first time without Dr. Kiernan even saying she was ending the exam- just shoved a paper in an envelope while I was still looking through the test lenses and sent me out the door without an explanation. She had printed my prescription as the same old script I was there to update. I spent $194 to be handed the same outdated numbers I had walked in with. I scheduled a recheck which I had to miss another work day to attend, and when I told the doctor that I felt rushed and overlooked in the first appointment, she didn't hesitate for a second to tell me that I was wrong and she had not rushed me. She was not going to take an inch of criticism and insisted that I was wrong about my own poor vision. I came in wearing the test contacts she had given me at the previous appointment because I had no more lenses and had no other options, and I could not clearly see the wall of the exam room 7 feet away. On this second exam she insisted my 5 year old numbers were correct but did remember to include the axis and cylinder this time, which she hadn't bothered to include on the first exam, and was condescending to me during the entire recheck. I was on my last pair of contacts and needed any RX to order any kind of corrective lenses, and I figured crappy glasses were better than no glasses, so I ordered using the script she gave me in the cheapest frames that looked OK. Mistake. The staff member "helping" me did not seem to know how to use the device that measures eye distance and was visibly annoyed with every question I asked her. I was exhausted and anxious and had a strict timetable, so I just ordered the glasses and left. Glasses show up a couple weeks later and were completely useless. Wearing them was an instant headache and I could not clearly see the wall 10 feet away. I tried adjusting to them but my depth perception was shot and everything was fuzzy. I couldn't walk down the stairs wearing those, let alone drive or work. When I spoke to the office about a refund, they insisted that they do not do refunds. I explained how terrible the glasses were and they agreed to refund the glasses but not the exam fee. We went back and forth on the exam fee and the manager, Rachel, said she would take it to her supervisor and get back to me soon. It was a full week later and no one from Visionworks had called, so I called them only to be told that they were just about to call me! They did not get corporate approval for my refund. I insisted they give me the refund, they said they would run it up to management again. I don't hear from them for days again, then I call them this morning and get Rachel the manager again, who immediately says she was just about to call me! Again! She can't approve my refund but she'll have her boss call me. I tell her how unhappy I am with their dishonest practices and terrible service, and that I am not letting them steal money from me after failing to provide the most basic service an eye doctor is supposed to offer. Her supervisor, Bob, calls me claiming he is there to help, but refuses to do anything about the situation and keeps repeating their zero refund policy. I cannot afford to throw away almost $200 on garbage. Bob was rude, short, and unhelpful- that it the only through-line in dealing with this company. I told him that if he wasn't going to help then he could send it to his manager and he said that person would get back to me today. Eight hours later, nothing. Now I have to miss another day of work to go to a different optometrist and spend more money I cannot afford on getting my actual correct prescription so I can buy glasses that work. The cherry on top is that apparently the doctor and her staff write their own customer satisfaction notes for every exam, but they don't ask the customers if we are satisfied, so Dr. Kiernan made a post-exam report that stated I was happy with my purchase and my experience and sent that to corporate to dispute my refund. I had no say in that report and would have told them the opposite if I had the chance. These people will 100% lie to malign customers and refuse valid refunds. AVOID. read more

I took my girlfriend for an appointment at 4 on and she did not get in until 5 pm and someone who arrived 20 minutes later for a 4:20 appointment got in first. The employees were very rude and they focused more on the phone calls they got instead of in store customers. Another problem we saw was that they helped someone for 30 minutes look for glasses before putting her paperwork through. Overall this was my worst eye doctor experience and I have had many many terrible experiences before this. Please find another place to take your business it will save you a lot of headache. Even after waking up on vacation with terrible eye pain, my experience with this Visionworks turned my whole day around. Not only did they get me in same day (thank you Rachel!) but they called me and got me in sooner, knowing I was in pain. They were kind, patient, and very professional. Dr. Anne Kiernan was amazing! She quickly diagnosed the cause of my sudden awful pain and helped me understand what happened, what to expect, and how to reach her over the course of the holiday week to come. She prescribed medication and even confirmed they were in stock. She was remarkable kind and helpful. A great ending to a painful morning! read more

I had been in multiple times for eye pressure check after retina surgery at Mass. Eye and Ear . Visionworks wouldn't do it again unless I had full exam. Today was the last straw experience with this place and the staff. I want to start by saying that the newest doctor, Dr. Anne Kiernan is WONDERFUL and excused from this negative review. I feel so bad she has to work with such incompetent rude ancillary staff. My journey at this place started approximately 5 years ago. I went in for a routine eye exam and needed glasses for an astigmatism. This visit (5 yrs ago) seemed to go well, the Dr. was fine but the staff was absolutely atrocious. The female front desk staff had ZERO customer service skills and the most unfriendly staff I've ever encountered especially for a medical office. The female staff are the same staff to date with some additions in support staff. I pick out my glasses (2 pair) and pay close to $1000 for them to include progressive lenses. I get a call a few weeks later that they're ready so I pick them up. I try them on in office and I immediately can't see anything. The female staff simply say well they're progressives it takes a bit getting used too. Ok, I thought, let me give them a try. Well fast forward a couple years in and I'm STILL not used to them. I'm dizzy, migraines that I never had before, nauseous etc. I decided to give up on the glasses and just used a very old pair from 10 years prior and seemed to see better with those. Fast forward about another year and I return to vision works. This new Dr is there who is fabulous (Dr Kiernan) and the same rude staff as always. (At this point I've had family and friends go to other places citing the same issues as I have in service.) I tell this new Dr that the old prescription I purchased there was not good and I never could see with them and never got used to them as the staff continued to brush off my concerns over the period of approximately 2 years. The Dr said ok let's start from the beginning and do a comprehensive exam. I told her I had astigmatism and she confirmed that. When we went into the room for vision tests I pulled out the glasses I purchased there and she put them under her machine to see the strength. She looked a bit baffled and said wow this is not the right prescription at all and it's going the completely opposite direction you poor thing how did you even see. I said I couldn't that's the problem. So, all that time I'm wearing the WRONG prescription given to me by visionworks. Well, mistakes happen right? So I thought until they gave me the wrong prescription TWO more times and along with some other reviewers having the same issues, I've concluded that the staff (ancillary not the Dr.) are not only RUDE but INCOMPETENT! People spend (I know I have) hundreds and thousands of dollars at this place. Never mind the ER visits, neurologist appts, and missed work for new migraines from the wrong prescription I endured.I digress, so I get a new (the CORRECT ONE) eyeglasses prescription pick out two pair pay for them and get them. They're WONDERFUL I can actually see now! I'm so excited I keep overlooking the absolute atrocious customer service and return to try contacts for the first time. This started about 8 months ago. The contact journey. Sooooo, my first set of trials come in. The rude staff call and say I need to schedule an hour for the first time contact teaching. I said ok. I said I work late and the place is more than 30 min drive for me so I need to have a Saturday appointment. The rude lady who does the contact training says "welp it's gonna have to be this Saturday then cuz I'm going on vacation.." I take the appt. This lady was so unsanitary she took my contacts in her BARE hand and while trying to show me she touches her OWN eye then touches my contacts. They've since dispensed two wrong contacts to me and I'm 8 months into this contact journey now stuck at this place. Today they tried to tell me I was wrong that the contacts were the right ones. This place is absolutely atrocious.The time, money, & gas spent to be treated poorly and have incompetent care is unacceptable. read more

Had the worst possible experience in Narragansett, RI. Went in to get new sunglasses and prescription glasses. According to policy because my prescription is over a year old I needed to have an eye exam. Took advantage of the buy one get one promotion still came out to nearly $600. It's been a month since the process started still have not received my glasses. Terrible customer service you call and just get put on hold forever. Visited Narragansett RI VisionWorks Store June 2021.....service was okay in purchasing bifocal eyeglasses to a new prescription written by my eye doctor. I paid in full; cash up front with delivery in 2 weeks; my health insurance provides no upfront coverage, some reimbursement provided direct to me upon my submittal of their claim form , Vision should not have been involved with my insurance...I provided NO policy information to them. My insurance provider has shown me 2 claim requests they received from Visionworks; one in the amount I paid and the second for double that amount; both of which my healthcare provider rejected as they should have. But I believe that Vision in submitting these claims for payment they had already received is attempting fraud....they had no right submitting my information for any such claim. I am done with VisionWorks...period...they should be locked up read more

I went to my local narragansett vision works recently. I had an excellent experience. New doctors, new customer service reps, all is well at this location. The new email communication is very effective and very helpful. My glasses were ready before the promised date. I just went back there for an adjustment on my glasses thanks to my beautiful granddaughter, ( I still love her) and I was greeted like an old friend! read more

Someone said rotten customer service, that is giving them too much credit. Made an appointment a week in advance. I show up, they take my name, no hello, take my temperature, give me a tray and say go pick out what you like and don't put anything back that you touch. So cordial. When I called for the appt. they said they'd help me, when I went there, nothing, not any attempt. Basically they said look at these 2,000 pairs of glasses and good luck. I asked about shapes, colors, prices...They would not help, nor willing to help at all and they (yes, more than one employee) looked at me like I had 3 heads. Pretty bad when you go in and they read the old glasses wrong and consequently they cannot get the new script correct. Got the glasses and could not see in the distance better than my old script (progressive lens) I gave it a few days and not any better. Went back and found out that they did not read the old glasses correctly redid the exam and got new ones. Not much better but I am done with this place. Besides when you come back in to get the new glasses the Ophthalmologist does not take the time to see if you can actually see out of them! Never will darken that door again! read more

I walked into Visionworks Narragansett, RI Suite #2 location at 10AM on a Friday not knowing what to expect. Only to find that I was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff! Debra and the rest of the customer service team made my experience pleasant and efficient. Within minutes I had two pairs of glasses picked out and they both were right in my price range. I had to have an eye exam because my prescription was expired... the exam was quick and accurate; Dr. Nigrelli definitely knows what he is doing! It has only been one day and I am ALREADY heading back into the same Visionworks later this morning to pick up my finished glasses! I am super excited to have my glasses ready for the school semester, right when i needed them most. I needed a pair of sunglasses so I visited visionworks. Found a pair went to the counter with a prescription that had expired a month ago. They now require by law that I needed an exam. I explained that my prescription worked fine and the NEW law was to put more money in their pockets. The person waiting on me was very rude and another woman waiting on another customer burst out laughing at my frustration and did not stop. I was wrong about the law, it was passed in 2011, and I was unaware of it. No one should be forced to take an exam if they are comfortable with the old prescription. I know they will come up with reasons for a wasted exam but it should be up to me. But, the entire group acted like 8th graders whose teacher had left the room. That seems to be the general theme in the reviews about this store. I owned a retail business in Narragansett for 20 yrs and know quite a few people in town. Made an appointment here because I needed an updated contact prescription because mine were running out and I couldn't buy any more without an updated prescription. Recently they came under new management so I was asked over the phone nearly a week in advance when I made the appointment, for my insurance information. I gave it to them over the phone and they said that I was all set. When I got there, I had the exam performed, and went to the counter expecting to pay only the copay. One extremely rude and condescending employee told me that she couldn't get ahold of my insurance company because "they were at lunch" (???) and that I would either have to wait for them to call back or pay for the full exam. I had another appointment that I had to go to, and they refused to send me a bill so I was forced to pay $165 dollars up front because she said that I was not covered with vision (not sure how she would know that if she didn't get through to my insurance company). I went back the next day and they STILL had not called my insurance, so I was forced to do it myself. I got through immediately and was told that I had the carrier IMED for vision benefits. When I told the same rude employee she just said "oh we don't support that company you need to go to LensCrafters". So instead of calling my insurance company the week before I came into the exam and letting me know that they don't support my insurance and suggesting that I go to another store, they told me I was all set, let me go through two exams - for glasses AND contacts, and then physically would not allow me to leave the building without paying the ridiculous $165, when if they took my insurance I would have only had to pay a $10 copay. The customer service was horrible, and the older blonde woman behind the counter was a real witch. Never going back there again even if they did take my insurance. read more

Went in to fill a Rx, but the experience was horrible. The techs flitted between customers while trying to complete the dispensary process. They said they accepted my insurance, and after going through the entire selection process, including pressure to buy features I did not want, the tech informed me they didn't take my insurance. Also, all of the advertising about getting a discounted second pair of glasses is a joke. If you have insurance you don't qualify for that deal....makes no sense.
