I recently purchased glasses from this business in February '25 .ive been very happy with the lenses and frames they help me select. I chose to do business with this company as I was very unhappy with the optometrist shop attached to my eye providers office. The precision measuring & accuracy was amazing and very detailed. The purchasing of these glasses went very smoothly and and I've had no problems with the glasses at all. Fast forward to this week when I accidentally stepped on them . I was heartbroken as I am very dependent upon them to see. A quick trip to their office and I have them back in perfect working order. The turnaround time was greatly appreciated as I was in a tough spot with some family issues going on and really needed to be able to see properly. Walked in last week with my mother in laws glasses, she's in a nursing home and when they took her out in an ambulance, she returned a couple of weeks later to find that they were bent out of shape. Ted was amazing and jumped all over it. He knew the frames well, told me all about the brand and fixed them while I waited. Ted, you have helped us and I can't tell you how much we appreciated what you do there. I wasn't sure if they could be fixed. You just earned a customer. I'll be back with my family. I am so glad I decided to go to Rhode Eyeland. The service is excellent. They cut no corners in the exam. The staff is very professional and kind. I must give special kudos to Ted, the optician. He is hands down the best optician in the industry, and I can't imagine picking out glasses without him. He was so patient with me in helping ensure I got everything I needed from my glasses, and his taste is exceptional. He's not only technically proficient, he has a keen eye for design. Had been about 9 years since my last exam, so I figured was do :). Excellent experience all around, everyone was friendly, professional, and polite. A lot of back and forth between the lobby and exam rooms. They get on you about having regular check-ups, which is part of the reason I've procrastinated for so long after I went a couple years, but I guess that's mostly on me. read more

For years I went to an "old school" optometrist, you know, the one who uses charts and that lens changing device to get the optimal clearness of the prescription you are going to need. Not this place. If it's the latest in optometry gadgets, this place uses it. I was also surprised by the amount of staff on hand in this office. There had to be at least 7 different people working on the day of my appointment. I found that odd, because my old optometrist only had a receptionist and him, that was it. Then I started to realize why there were so many there. It's an assembly line style of operation to get the most money out of your insurance and from you. The first person came in with a contraption that looked like one of those old picture slide viewers from the 60s. She put it on the bridge of my nose and had me look through it. She made some adjustments and then left the room. A different person came in a few minutes later with another gadget, did what her job was to do, and left. About 10 minutes later the optometrist walked in. She's a very pleasant person and seemed to know her stuff, but then she said something that didn't make sense. One of the staff had taken my glasses after setting me into the examination room. The optometrist told me that my eyesight was relatively unchanged when compared to the lenses on my glasses. I found this worrisome, because I hadn't had an eye exam for close to 7 years. I'm past the 50 year old mark and I know that my right eye was worse than after my last exam. But, I'm no professional, so I said nothing. A bit more time with the optometrist, though never looking at an eye chart and my exam was over. I was now directed to the person who orders new glasses for you. I wanted a new set of sport glasses, and she picked me out a nice frame. She tried to sell me all the latest technology in lens care, but I declined almost all of it, except for the "progressive" lens option. She told me the glasses would be ready in about 10 days and I went to the receptionist, finished the requisite paperwork and left. I got a call about a week later informing me that my glasses were ready for pickup. I tried them on and something wasn't right about my field of vision. I wear bi-focals and when I looked at something close to my face, I had to turn and tilt my head slightly to the left to get the print in focus. I told the person who fitted me about it and she took the glasses and stared at them from different directions for a bout a minute and had me try again. Once again, blurry looking straight ahead, clear if I turned and tilted my head. She told me to take them home and try them for a few days and if it didn't clear up after I adjusted to them, to bring them back and she'll get new lenses made. I did this, but after a couple of days, the tilting and turning got frustrating and I went back to the office. I told her that there wasn't any improvement and she said no problem, they'll have them sent out and new lenses made. About 3 weeks later I get the call again that the new lenses are in. I walk in and go to the same person and when I try them on, the same problem is still there. She says she can't understand it, they were new lenses and should be fine. I then get taken into an examination room and a few minutes later the optometrist enters. She's been apprised of the situation and asks me a few questions about the problem. She asked me how long had I worn them and I told her a couple of days. She then says it can take up to a couple of weeks for the proper adjustment to the new prescription. But as I mentioned earlier, she said my eyes hadn't degrading from my old prescription. And then I realized that these weren't new replacement lenses, but the originals I had tried on the first time. They probably held them and called me three weeks later and told me they were new. Hoping I'd take them and be gone. Well, I did take them after this visit because I just wanted to get out of the place. It's an insurance billing assembly line process shop. It's been two years since I bought these glasses, and I still can read with them properly and only use them for driving. Do yourself a favor, find that "old school" optometrist I mentioned in the first paragraph. Avoid this "factory" read more

I came in for a checkup and told the staff I wanted to take advantage of my new vision insurance. Without notifying me, they charged my health insurance rather than my vision. When confronted about this, they told me it was because I have slightly high blood pressure in one eye and there was nothing they could do about the charges ($200 for a routine eye exam). I have never had my health insurance charged for a routine checkup anywhere else or since I've visited this practice. And I've never had any other optometrist mention high blood pressure in my eyes. read more

Similar experience in that my prescription was written wrongly and had to be made again, still not correct and the third time was told I may not see much better than I do. The woman at the front desk is blunt to customers and asks for health insurance card every time I visit, as well as vision insurance. Once they asked me to get my physicians referral as a new patient. One elderly woman came in asking if they could adjust the fit of her glasses, and the first thing out of the bookkeepers mouth was "DID YOU GET THEM HERE?" Like they would not adjust them if she had not. The first time I went for tests the technician spoke like a Disney ride speaker, loudly like I was hard of hearing, it was irritating. I tried to talk softly but she continued so I had to tell her, I am right here, and getting my eyes checked not my hearing. I think my expectation may be higher than what can be expected but find that it is not so what you are asked, but how you are ask. The doctor is always running late. Once I waited 50 minutes, another time 35. Doctor once with you is through, and explains things well. She is the one that caught the mistake in my eye glass script. So it's a mixed bag, and not sure if I want to stay here or shop around for a group that is more aligned with my sense of courtesy and kindness in eye care. read more

Went there last April and was having problems at work looking at computer and then engineering drawings. Doctor prescribed some eyewear that did the trick and I can now function properly. Need to call and make next years appointment for myself and also my wife. Love this Doctors caring attitude. read more
