I was in the area on vacation in July and suffered from an ingrown eyelash. These are painful conditions causing eye swelling and surface irritation. I called around to several doctors and no one could fit me in. I was going to need to drive home to Connecticut, a 4 1/2 hour round-trip to see my regular eye doctor. Then I called Eye Care for Rhode Island. I had an appointment within a half an hour. The office was immaculate, the staff was efficient and friendly. Tried to charge me $110 for a contact class wouldn't give me my prescription and told me I was covered over the phone. I've never gone to anywhere that charged me for my contacts prescription. Typically I'd get my prescription and buy contacts online. The up charge and hidden fees are ridiculous canceled my appointment on the spot! read more

Scheduled visit was started on time. The vision technician was well trained in the equipment in use while providing excellent description of what will happen ising a comfortable voice tone. Great experience from start to finish. No seriously, it's got everything you want in an eye place -- plentiful parking, friendly staff, knowledgeable and professional optometrists, a clean, pleasant business front, and a location next to a light so you don't have to worry about traffic when you leave with your eyes dilated. A stand out for me was my experience getting a new pair of glasses. The people helping me were patient saint's with an expertise to fitting and shape and style above and beyond other experiences I've had. These consultations need to be scheduled, which grants you a dedicated person to help find something that will be on your face for years. Their prices were very reasonable and actually very competitive with other places I've used in the past. The added value of experience and feeling taken care of makes this a great place for eye stuff. Anyways, this place is great and has earned my business. They won't disappoint you! read more

I arrived to my appointment early and just after I checked in they called my name. I didn't even get a chance to sit down. Wow, I thought, when does this ever happen? The very kind young lady who did the initial tests was very knowledgeable, courteous and efficient. After she was finished, Dr. Kelly came in almost immediately. Again, no waiting! I called for an appointment for a new condition and was given an appointment the very next day. I was greeted as I walked in the door , checked in quickly and waited for a couple minutes before being given an eye exam , then brought to Dr Collins room, watched a video on my condition and soon was seen by Dr Collins. Mixed Review... I got my first pair of Rx glasses several months ago. The optician was very helpful, engaged and thorough, answering all my questions and executing the order perfectly. This, after a very good eye exam and workup. Very happy customer... Fast-forward to a month ago. I wanted same Rx in Transition lenses. Exact opposite experience. Optician was not particularly engaged. I placed the order (for $885 glasses) and left the shop not feeling very confident that things would be right. When I got home, I got a call - she forgot to actually measure my eyes and draw on the glass where my pupils were. I had to drive back in for this. Now my confidence is about zero. The glasses arrived yesterday and I made an appointment to pick them up. I love the lenses but something seemed a bit tight with the frames. By the time I got home, it was clear, these frames are too small for my head. Comparing side by side with same brand frames bought previously (which were very carefully measured by the previous optician) it's clear. Now, I'm thinking back, and there was no step in the process where we did any sort of measurements. That's 101, right? I'm driving in again today (appointment #4 for same glasses) to try and sort it out. I'm not a ranter and complainer, but it's been a very bad experience on this second pair. I would say, if you're an experienced eye glasses purchaser and can manage the case yourself and make sure everything is right - go for it. If you're a total novice like me, beware. read more

The doctor and staff was wonderful. Why I gave it three stars is bassed on this,if the doctor except your ins so should the ordering of glasses . I would never have switched there if I knew they did not . I even asked if they took my ins and was stated they did . This is a disappointment to me and somewhat of a burden for me to find somewhere else to order my glasses . I've been going to Eye Care For RI on a yearly basis for many years now. Dr. Collins was great and when he diagnosed cataracts in both eyes, he explained what needed to be & walked me thru the steps. Even though it was a simple thing, putting a screw back into my glasses so a lens would stay in, the person that did the work was very personable, fixed my glasses, and didn't charge a thing. Very disappointed in the optical shop today, after having had excellent experience in multiple visits to the eye clinic. No guidance, no alternatives, no breakdown of costs. Basically, "There are the frames to choose from on the wall. Credit card, please." No explanation of types of lenses, coatings, polarization, prices. I should have asked more questions, but I was too slow and kind of surprised by the lack of service. read more

I had a horrible experience with this business. It took nearly two years to have a lens that popped out of my new frames while I was reading a newspaper repaired. Obviously, my glasses were poorly made or a lens wouldn't have just fallen out. The employees gave me conflicting information about my glasses. First they called to ask where my lens was. I brought it to the office the day it came out. They had possession of it. Next they called to tell me there was no way the lens I brought to them came from my glasses. Yes, it did. I was told next there was a problem with my insurance. Why? I had paid in full for my glasses. It had nothing to do with my insurance. Silence followed. I asked if my glasses were ready at my next eye exam. I was told they weren't ready. I finally received a message they were ready on my answering machine. I went to pick them up. They wanted $120.00. There was more drama. I finally ended this nightmare by paying the $120.00. Heed my warning and don't even think about going to Eye Care for RI. read more

I recently made an appointment at this eye care center on West Main Road (formerly a 7-Eleven) after hearing great things about both Dr. Kelley and Dr. Collins. The appointment was very easy to schedule and I was able to make one that worked with my crazy schedule. The receptionists here are so nice and greet you as soon as you walk in! They're very helpful and efficient. Soon after filling out my paperwork, I was brought in for an exam by the assistant, Melissa. She was very friendly and double checked my glasses. Then I was brought into another room where I waited about 10 minutes before Dr. Kelley came in and performed his own exam. He was very friendly and chatted with me throughout the appointment and explained everything to me. Then he just gave me my prescription...no pressure to buy there. On my way out, the receptionist made my next appointment and was able to coordinate it with my mom's next appointment. I was very happy with my experience here and feel very comfortable with their service. read more

staff sucks, doctor kelly never gets back to anyone because his staff doesn't give him the message. tried for 2 months to get the correct contact lenses after they sold me the wrong set, this has been the biggest obstacle and challenge to get my contacts i paid for. do not waste your time with them, staff is rude and doesn't care about your time or the situation your in. they just want to get you off the phone so they can chit chat, Dr Kelly is awesome but the staff is so bad they have forced me to switch after 10 + years with him, and they could care less. Nerry is not helpful either. first i ordered contacts and they said we will call you when there in, they never did i had to follow up, then was told they were there, then went there and told there's nothing for me, i said you better check again and they found them, and guess what one eye isn't even correct. over 2 months later and i still have not gotten the correct lenses. this place does not double check the prescriptions before releasing them to you. read more

I don't recommend bringing children here for their eye exams, even though they take pediatric patients. No toys in waiting area or rooms to distract them during exam so in order to keep my 3-year-old from getting into things I had to resort to Mickey on my iPhone which bought me some condescending looks of course. My son was not even letting them look at his eyes with a flashlight, and I had to put the dilating drops in his eyes. Well they were the ones for adults because they sting a little so I was never able to get a drop in the second eye. I've taken him for an eye exam before and I walked away amazed at how well the exam went because they had gadgets and special equipment for CHILDREN. I think the only thing the doctor learned was that my son is not cross-eyed...which I could have told him. I'm just upset they even allowed me to book an appointment for a child because they are clearly not equipped to do eye exams on children. read more

I recently visited this eye care center because it's close to home and it's always busy which is a good sign. I was greeted very friendly upon arrival they have two receptionist so there is probably a quick turn around. I met with the nurse first who dialated my eyes (never had this done before) but ok. After she checked a few things I was brought into Dr Kelly's examination room although thorough it seemed a little fast and I'm just a little worried my 2 pairs of glasses I ordered which were expensive won't be perfect. But I will update the review if necessary. I met with Janetta in the optical department, and I was very surprised they actually had nice glasses for men, ray ban, oakleys, hey it's not 1980 and it's nice to see some fashionable glasses. I picked two pairs one sunglasses strictly for driving and one transitional for all day use. Overall unless something is wrong with the glasses themselves I am very happy with the whole experience. read more
