Note: No actual eye doctor is in person on staff here! They all remote in via webcam causing long wait times, up to 2 hours! Recently started a new job with new insurance and thought it was time to get a new pair of glasses, my old ones were 5+ years old. Visionworks was on a list provided to me by my insurance so I choose the closet one to me thinking I could get an appointment in a week or so. Big mistake. Scheduling just appointments is 1-2 MONTHS out. Had an appointment last weekend, November, which I had to schedule in September. Crazy. Flash forward to my appointment, filled out all the paperwork online, checked in at 10:15 for a 10:20 am appointment...and just waited. there were only 3 people on staff, 2 fitting glasses and only 1 woman doing the actual prescreening. Was finally called back at 10:50 and went over my paperwork again. I commented I did all this online and the woman said they have a new system and doesn't matter if you fill it out online or not, they still have to redo it in store anyway. I heard other people coming in for their appointments at 11, 11:15 am etc and the woman helping me just grumbled we'll get to you when we get to you. Got all the prescreening done then went back to the actual exam room and sat in front of a screen with a webcam. No actual doctor is on staff! They are all remote in other states with PA licenses. The woman from before moved the machine in front of me and the doctor controls the machine remotely from home. She then signed off and I had to wait another 20 minutes for another doc to sign on and finish my prescription. When I asked why it was all remote I was just told that's how it was during the pandemic and they never went back. All in all it took 2 hours to get my prescription in what should have taken 45 min. I'll be looking for an IN PERSON eye doctor even if they're out of network. read more

Booked online a few weeks ago in HERSHEY, PA. I have an appointment on 8/24. Visionworks is now using an online scheduling system. I found an opening, scheduled. They called me today and told me it was double booked and next available appointment is in October. This is why I tried to call and schedule initially but apparently they don't answer the phone. John the manager refused to try and squeeze me in sooner. He refused to take any responsibility - blaming corporate and NOT OFFERING ANYTHING TO HELP. Not even to take my name in case of a cancellation. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I've never had such terrible customer service in my life. Left me high and dry with a contact prescription up in September and who knows if I'll find a place. I'm disgusted and will probably never come back to a Visionworks, I've never been this kind of person but other consumers should know that in Hershey the customer's problem is not Visionwork's problem even when they screwed up. I just finished going to Kirman Eye after the disastrous experience with Visionworks and Kirman was absolutely great! Don't be fooled. At Visionworks: - You DON'T get a full eye exam with a live human being on site at this location, something they fail to disclose. -You DON'T get quality materials there. -You DON'T get quality craftsmanship there. My glasses were an absolute disaster! - You DON'T have access by phone to the store most of the time. The employees are overworked so they switch the number over to the corporate 800 number. -You DON'T get a free second pair of glasses as they were advertising UNLESS you don't use insurance, something they conveniently fail to disclose in their advertising. -You DON'T get return phone calls. The remote vision exam model is relatively new, but as a consumer I will tell you it is NOT the equivalent of having an optometrist in the room with you. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Do yourself a favor and go to Kirman. It's well worth the time you will need to wait for an appointment. read more

I've been going here for 4+ years, but no more. In the past 6 months I have had two separate appointments, both of which they cancelled. Once they cancelled the day of, and the next they cancelled 3 days prior, saying that they changed their hours and will not be taking appointments at that time anymore (9 am). I waited 3 months between each appointment, and if I wanted another one I would need to wait another 2 months. I'm a surgical resident with 0 time, I have no contacts, and what are now year+ old glasses prescription. I even called to try and reschedule and I waited on hold for 45 minutes just to have them hang up on me saying they're busy. I even went into the office to try and talk to someone to get an appointment, and they basically said "too bad". The doctors and the man who helped us with our order were super nice. The woman with the tattoo on her wrist was snarky, disrespectful and rude. Her customer service was awful and belittling. She ruins it for your practice. If good customer service is your goal she needs to go. read more

Been going here since 2018, the doctor is amazing. The place was run well in the past. Now, I can never get a hold of anyone when I try to call. I've called over 20 times by now at various times and can never reach a sales associate. They rescheduled one of my appointments already forcing me to rely on my limited amount of contacts. I called complaining of a medical issue on which the doctor/someone was suppose to get back to me, but no one ever did. I will start looking for another place. The way she spoke to and treated me literally ruined my daughters appointment, raised her temperature and made her cry. HORRIBLE!!!! I had two pairs of contacts left so I got on to book an appointment at Visionworks (they were booking almost 2 months out). I intentionally made the appointment after 5:00 so my husband would be home and I didn't need child care. Waited. They called me less than a week before my appointment and said they had to move it until 11am or 2pm. I begrudgingly agreed and got childcare coverage, arranged my schedule, and planned to work from home that day. Day of they called me 2 HOURS BEFORE my appointment saying "they had an IT issue and would have to cancel my appointment." The best part is they said "I could go and reschedule my appointment online." The same place that is again booking almost 2 months out!!! I tried calling them multiple times but they just let me on hold for a half hour and never pick up. Needless to say I am taking my business elsewhere and hopefully quick as I now am obviously on my last pair of contacts. Save yourself the headache and find somewhere else to go! read more

This is an absolute joke!! Do not go to hummelstown store! Waited 10 minutes for virtual technician to do exam. Then waited 15 min for virtual doctor to give me results. No one helped picking glasses which is fine but it was a joke. Wanted to cancel eyeglasses order and could not reach store. I am now on month 7 of trying to get my contact lenses (for which, the eye exam and prescription were wrong) with multiple attempts to get in touch with management over the last month. They refuse to refund the contacts unless the manager is in, and they also state that the manager is only in 2 days of the week with very select hours. I've left multiple messages requests for return calls, with no answers. They never answer when I try to call. And when I come in person, they always give me a run around. read more

I love Visionworks in Hummelstown. Barbara is the absolute best when it comes to helping me choose frames. All I have to do is look at her face. In the past I've had issues with a frame and was taken care of right away. I think anyone judging a business for not being like they were in 2019 is being harsh. This Visionworks is one of the worst that I have been to over the past several years. I have gone because it is local and have had eye exams and glasses on three different occasions. I will not be back after last summer's incident. Firstly, you don't ever have a real, live Optometrist to exam in you. They use video and tech to have somebody in another location do the exam with an assistant in the room. There are NEVER appointments within two months of the time that you are checking, and even then the days are always very limited. Last June, I made an appointment for August and even filled out the pre-arrival paperwork the day before the big exam. On the way there, it's about a 15 minute drive from my house, I saw that the appointment had been canceled. When I went into the store, I was told that there was nobody available to do the exam today. I told them that I had booked two months ago and they relied that some one had called me. I showed them my call log on my phone and they could have cared less. She told me to reschedule for two months from then. I informed her that after having my annual eye exam for the past three years at this chain, I would not be returning. Of course, their ads still manage to make their way into my email. The best are the ones that tell me that I missed my annual checkup and that making an appointment is so easy. LOL It doesn't really matter to them at this location because I never saw the same people there over the three years that I had exams and ordered glasses. Constant turnover speaks volumes, and If I could give it a negative number, I would as it was a huge waste of my time. read more

Moving an appointment 30 mins prior to the scheduled time is unacceptable. Also, when they call the lady who calls is extremely loud and unprofessional. Lastly, my wife was supposed to get references for another appt but they have failed to respond for months. They ought to just close this place or find new staff. read more

This review is well overdue. We are returning customers for my 10 year old, who has significant vision issues in his right eye, (Dwayne's Syndrome), and no peripheral vision in his left; his diagnosis is a bit complicated. We have seen pediatric ophthalmologists in the past and can tell you even in recent experience none compare to Dr Marotta, who sees a broad range of age groups. He is very pleasant and makes the examination experience for a child both comfortable and educational, taking his time to explain both the process, diagnosis and treatment plan. If I am correct, my son is the youngest patient he has prescribed contacts. *Side note, I am not suggesting that he will readily prescribe contacts for a child, as I am sure that recommendation varies case by case. In addition, we were also impressed with Darleen, the optician who taught Aiden how to put in his contacts for the first time; she was patient, kind, and stressed the importance of having good hand hygiene when placing a contact in your eye. I brought my daughter here for contacts, they were ordered 11/12/21, as of 1/5/22 she has not received them. You cannot get through to them on the phone, we stopped to inquire about them, Darlene was mad and on edge because she had to give us masks upon entering, we put them on and she went on a rant about it, I said I'm here to find out where my daughters contacts are and her nasty side kick Barbara proceeds to scream that she doesn't have time to call or find out where they are! I told them my daughter is out of contacts and she can't see the board or teacher in school at which point Darlene screams GET OUT BEFORE I CALL THE COPS! Corporate was called by me and they haven't called back. I checked my credit card today and it was refunded the amount of my contacts, I am out my exam fee of $95. These women are running this business into the ground, once they take your money they're done with you. I should have went on my gut feeling and walked out at our initial appointment when they were glad we showed up because their 6 prior appointments never showed up, hmmmm you do the math. I woke up today to what I thought was almost 2 hours before my 10am appt that i had scheduled online over 2 months prior. I see on my phone a reminder of my 9am appt. Not sure what's going on i hustle to get ready & get there at 9:15. I explain to the unnamed woman working there that my appt was for 10am. She checks the computer & confers that visionworks had changed my appt unbeknownst to me until 45 mins before the appt. The woman says they can't take me now so we can reschedule or i can wait to see if the 10 o'clock appt doesn't show up. Are you kidding me?!?! This is potentially a very big inconvenience for me due to the fact that my business gets very busy in spring & I'm not sure now how soon I'll be able to get an appt elsewhere. I'm not going through this complete lack of customer service again at Visionworks. I guess getting 15 minutes behind is worse for this business than losing 4 customers including my wife & kids. read more

I'd love to give zero stars. The unbelievable lack of customer service is astounding. My original appointment set for a Tuesday evening in December was canceled without notification due to the doctor being out of office. When I arrived at my scheduled appointment time John in the office told me that they had no appointments today and that they tried to call me two days before my appointment but my line was busy. They obviously did not try to call back or leave a message because I get numerous inbound calls and voice message without issue daily. John proceeded to tell me that they cannot email (after I had already received 3 emails to confirm my appointment) or text me as they do not have access to that information which is completely ridiculous, especially when cancelling an appointment and being unable to get in contact with the patient. To say that John was unhelpful would be an understatement. He proceeded to tell me that they had no appointments available, when they were the ones who had canceled the appointment. He begrudgingly offered two appointments (one being the day after Xmas) that did not work due to the holiday and when I turned them down his response was "well I have given you options and you are deciding to decline them." I have never seen a level of customer service so poor and I will NEVER be returning to this Visionworks. read more
