I've been a client of Visioncare Associates since December of 2023. I sought ought Dr. Shily when my medical insurance changed vision plans. I have some complicated vision issues: keratoconus and a prior eye surgery and its often difficult to get my exams and specialized lenses covered. It often takes a lot of extra work with multiple fittings and multiple appeals to appease the insurance companies. He is the worst doctor I have ever encountered. My family saw the optometrist who used to be here for years and I called to make an appointment with the current one which is Dr.Shilly and the girl on the phone told me they can make it. They called me the day before to say he could not see me after sending me 5 texts to confirm because of my insurance. My insurance is accepted everywhere. Dr. Shilly called me a week later being rude and evasive the whole time I asked questions about why someone said they don't accept my insurance. He said he would not see me because my older sister gave him an issue the last time she was there. That makes no sense because he is still texting her to make an appointment. That is unprofessional to talk to me about another patient. He lacks empathy and professionalism. Listen to the 1 and 2 star reviews. Go to Walmart instead. their optometrists have to be better than the terrible service at this establishment by Dr.Shilly and mismanaged staff. read more

Dr. Shily is truly a good human being. As a new patient, I called to make an appointment, and he personally returned my call a couple days later. I was surprised to hear the doctor himself and not a secretary. Turns out that they had had a flood in their office last week, couldn't take appointments for some days, and the secretary was not working during those days. I'm sure they were behind, and yet here was Dr. Shily showing up for new patients that he doesn't know despite his own misfortunate. Although he doesn't take my insurance (LA Care--many doctors understandably don't), he gave me a recommendation for a doctor who did take it, got me in quickly and was competent--someone he knows from working together on an optometry board. He also personally followed up today to make sure I was able to schedule an appointment with that doctor and had received care. That touched my heart. Who does that in the city of LA? A caregiver who genuinely cares, not just about his own patients, but about people. That's who. This man deserves gratitude and applause. On a side note, can I just say... I've been looking at the reviews here out of curiosity... Who gives one star because someone didn't call back in the middle of a flood? Or because they don't take your insurance? This review is based off of my first two visits as a new patient to this optometrist. The interior is very nice, simple with a warm decor. The receptionist didn't put my appointment in for my second appointment for some reason. Despite this, Dr. Shilly was still able to see me on time. The dr. was very helpful in explaining my eye condition, and encouraged questions which is very important. There is a bit of equipment in this office, and he even introduced me to a state of the art machine that essentially scans your eye and gives you a prescription based off the scan. This is incredible! He did explain that it's not always as accurate as using standard test, and even took the time to compare my prescriptions based off both pieces of eye scanning equipment. I am totally satisfied so far as a patient, and can't wait to get my monthly contacts. So far, I definitely recommend choosing Dr. Shily. read more

Dr. Shily, and this office, are terrific. I'm in my 40s and have worn contacts/glasses since I was 12 - so I've been dealing with eye doctors for decades. I've seen more than my share of them. Because of the weird insurance I now have, I had to pick a new doc at random; all I had to go by were office names, locations, and (oh God..) Yelp. Visioncare Associates wasn't far from me, and Dr. Shily and his office got good Yelp reviews, so I took a chance - and it paid off. I've rarely reviewed anything on here, but figured I owed it to this app (and Dr. Shily) to write this. First, the basics: this office looks great, it is comfortable, it has great a/c, and they validate parking. If you live in L.A., those four things are bigtime important. The office manager who coordinates appointments and runs the desk (Rosa) is friendly and efficient, as is the doctor's assistant (Erik). These are important for any business, anywhere. As for Dr. Shily himself, this guy's exactly what you want in a doctor. Friendly, easy-going but professional, a wealth of knowledge but also focused on your time and your case. I wasn't in a rush and had lots of questions, ranging from my own eye health to the vision care industry, itself; he welcomed and answered it all, I wish all of my doctors were as open with their time and as enlightening. I hadn't planned on ordering contacts through him, as my heavy astigmatism requires custom lenses which most doctors don't deal with, but it turns out custom lenses is one of this office's specialties - and Shily thinks he can find them for me for a lower price than I've been paying - so again, I really lucked out in coming here! I've been seeing Dr. Shily since 2007 when I started working in the same building. My husband now goes to him as well. I have worn contacts for many years, so I was excited to find an Optometrist in the same building as me. Let me start by saying that Dr. Shily helped correct my vision. I was wearing the wrong contact prescription lenses prior to seeing Dr.Shily and each year that I saw him, I noticed that the power of the lens slowly changed and got better. He has always provided great service, monitored my sight and notified me of any significant changes. He always provides me with extra samples of lenses until my actual order gets in and I typically receive my contacts within a week to 10 days after my visit. I had been diagnosed with keratoconus for about 8 years. I came to see Dr. Shily because my original ophthalmologist told me I needed to get a corneal transplant. I decided to get a second opinion and Dr. Shily was recommended to me by another ophthalmologist who performed my cross-linking procedure 2 years ago. Dr. Shily examined me and he said that not only did he believe that I did NOT need a corneal transplant, but he believed that he could improve my vision even better. And he did. He and his staff have amazing customer service. Furthermore, he has been extremely diligent in finding ways to decrease the scarring in my left eye, something my previous doctor never did. It is quite difficult finding a good contact specialist for my condition.
