I went to Visionary Eye Doctor for an eye exam and honestly had a disappointing experience. After waiting forever to finally be seen, I was told to come back two days later for my sample contacts. Life got busy and I completely forgot about the samples, but what really bothered me was the complete lack of follow-up. No one reached out to check how the contacts fit, ask for my final decision, or even let me know there was a time limit involved. On top of that, the prescription didn't feel correct, and now I'm being told I have to pay out of pocket all over again. That's just not okay. Truly terrible communication and ridiculous wait time. I should have been suspicious when they called me minutes after my doctor sent in the referral to pressure a quick appointment scheduling. At the office the staff was nice but nearly an hour after arriving, I'd heard nothing. I asked when I would see the doctor. I was told that it would take a while and that it would be another 2 to 3 hours after the exam began. I I asked why no one had told me about how long the exam would take. My opthamologist and the techs are excellent. But the business side it a disaster. A two-hour wait in a packed waiting room for a 10-minute eye exam. No way to contact the doctor in between visits. Long holds when you call the office. You still have to wait months for an appointment. And don't get me started on the bells and whistles they try to push on you for cataract surgery--for some $5000 extra. I have no other medical provider who works in such a factory environment. Since I respect the doctor I will go through the cataract surgery with him, but afterwards I will find another practice. read more

Had a good experience with Dr Moainie taking care of my Demodex. Had two visits there - one diagnosis and one follow/up. Dealt with three of his technicians for rudimentary eye exams all staff was professional and courteous. Appointments were efficient. Dr Moainie is very knowledgeable and professional. BUT he's fast and there's a lot of important information to absorb, even writing it down was not easy because it's a lot to follow and feels rushed. He was great in returning a call to clarify. The Connecticut Ave office seemed clean, modern and quite busy, but they kept everything moving. read more

When I booked an appointment, I said that I was calling to book an eye exam. They booked me for a medical eye exam instead. It seems that a medical eye exam allows them to charge for stuff they could not do with an eye exam, like get a co-pay. When I asked to receive a card, a piece of paper, or a print-out for my prescription for when I get glasses again, they said that I would have to pay $67 for that information, because I had a medical eye exam. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

First, they don't seem to care if you leave with good vision. Could I get through the letters? Yes. Could they be less blurry? Yes. They don't care. But it gets worse. Your insurance pays for the exam, but they try to extort another $67 out of you to leave with said Rx. I called my insurance afterwards, and they said yes, they absolutely pay for the refraction service - that's the point of the exam after all. So now I have to deal with this other mess. Billing practices here are atrocious. I've been twice and it was a mess both times. The first time I went in for a contact lens fitting and annual exam. During the appointment, the doctor said they didn't have time for the annual exam and I should schedule a time to come back, which is annoying on it's own. They then proceeded to charge me for it anyway. When I brought this to their attention, they fought me on but then removed the charge. Then they charged me TWO years later saying I never paid the bill! And the second time I visited for just a contact lens fitting I paid in full in the office at the time of the appointment and they decided to charge the entire appointment again to my medical insurance and I had to call twice to get it removed. Plus, the information in their billing emails is wrong: the phone number is to a company that no longer facilitates their billing and the "view bill" link only takes you to a blank page. This should be standard billing for a simple appointment - do better!! I will not return. Additionally, I've worn contacts for 20 years - I've never had less confidence they're getting my prescription right. There is nothing visionary about this place. read more

Without question, one of the most disturbing experiences I have ever had with a provider. They were disorganized to a terrifying degree, the waiting rooms were packed to the rafters, they didn't share critical information with me, and requested payment for cataract surgery before even telling me what my surgery would consist of. I've had great experiences with the Visionary professional staff -- the ophthalmologist who takes care of me, and the techs. So this time I decided to order a new pair of glasses from them. The woman who helped me choose my glasses and do the measurements was terrific. But my experience with picking up the glasses today was bad. I had a confirmed appointment at 1:30 pm, but no one was in the eyeglasses department. After 20 minutes, I asked the staff where the person was. He eventually appeared at 2 pm, and he asked me how I was doing. When I said I had a 1:30 appointment and had been waiting 30 minutes, he said he had been on break. When I asked why I was given a 1:30 appointment, his response was "Sorry, boss." I put on my glasses, he asked how they felt, and that was it -- no checking of anything. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. read more

After having severe myopia my entire life, I had clear lens exchange surgery with Dr. Sarezky (it was great!). He was super throughout the entire process, patiently listening to all my questions and walking me through my options. I know Dr. Sarezky has many patients, but every single time we met I felt that he (a) remembered me, (b) cared about the health of my eyes, and (c) wanted to make sure I had good vision. Also, Dr. Hosseini was fantastic in assisting me with a creative short-term contact lens/glasses solution prior to my surgery. He listened to my particular circumstances and then worked with me to get to the best solution. I've been very pleased with all the doctors and staff at Visionary Eye Doctors, and will continue to go there. read more

Everytime I've been there I've left feeling that my time was wasted. Trying to get cataract care and all I got was a 10 minutes consult with a smart ass doctor who handed me a bunch of pamphlets and did nothing to ease my fears or educate me in a way that I could possibly trust him. I'm very disappointed and actually angry. I contacted the DC location after experiencing severe dry eye and pain. I waited 3 weeks for an appointment. I self medicated for three weeks and even went to urgent care. I was given a 4:15pm appointment during DMV rush hour. I left an hour and 15 min ahead of time and traffic was insane. At 4 min away from there office I received a call that I could not be seen. At that point It hadn't been 15 min. I understand rules, but I was literally 4 min. away. My decision to make an appointment with Visionary Eye Doctors was based on convenience- they're located close to my workplace. I feel fortunate that this is the case because I had an excellent experience from start to finish. Everyone I interacted with was extremely knowledgeable, professional and compassionate, from the desk staff to Marvin the technician to Dr. Moanie himself. I particularly appreciated my visit with Dr. Moanie given my last eye doctor session 15 months ago - at the time my extreme nearsightedness had gotten even worse, and my then-doctor advised that I consider Lasik for my eye health. I'm no supermodel, so I never even bothered with the idea of Lasik in the past because it seemed like an expensive vanity treatment. However, if it would actually improve my eye health, that's a different story and I'd be willing to consider it. Dr. Moanie disabused me of that mistaken understanding, and spent a lot of time answering my questions and concerns. I'm really pleased to have found such a thorough eye care specialist who I can trust to make the best recommendations for the health of my eyes. read more

COVID-19 SCAM & PRICE-GOUGING - STAY AWAY During this crisis, most eye doctors are extending contact/ glass prescriptions because patients cannot safely go to their office. My contact prescript expired in March. I'm one of the essential workers during crisis and need to refill that Rx. Visionary Eye Doctors, though, first said they would honor that and call me back with the Rx. After never hearing from them for days, I called back and now they say they will only extend IF YOU PURCHASE CONTACTS DIRECTLY FROM THEM AT INSANE PRICES. This is how they're raping customers as millions of people are stuck at home and tens of thousands of people are tragically dying. My eyes are now wide open to exactly what type of business this is. I should have expected this, frankly, after such a horrendous experience with them at my first appointment last year. They again tried to force me to buy directly from them at over-inflated prices and I had to go around and around with them to straighten it out and get them to send the Rx directly to me so I could buy from a reputable company. My advice: see yourself to a more honest and community oriented office that cares about more than money, especially as the vast majority of healthcare and medical works are not only helping their patients during this crisis, but heroically putting their own lives on the line. I've been going to this office for 4 years. I haven't been here in a while. When arriving to the office, I promptly filled out the paper work but when I went to sit down, finding a place to sit was similar to a high school cafeteria. This office was CROWDED. I felt like I was in an emergency room. What exactly is going on here? I was with the opth tech for the majority of my appointment. After I was dilated, I had to go back and wait in the even more crowded waiting room. See another tech. THEN go to ANOTHER waiting room. The dilated eye waiting room. 2 HOURS have gone past. BEFORE I CONTINUE, IT'S INCREDIBLY NEGLIGENT FOR NO ONE IN THE OFFICE TO LET ME KNOW I WAS GETTING DILATED TODAY. I drove. I could have had someone pick me up. My vision was shot for the rest of the day. Also, why would you over schedule and not value patient's time? Over 2 hours to see a physician is absolutely unacceptable. If my eyes weren't dilated, I would have left. After seeing the actual ophthalmologist for ONLY 5 minutes, I was rushed out and went to check out. Just to have the receptionist tell me it would cost $67 to get my eye glasses prescription. Unless, I want to schedule a VISION appointment which would be in another MONTH. I wasn't aware that because I'm getting a medical eye exam, my prescription wouldn't be covered. Outside of my unpleasant visit, healthcare is a joke and the biggest scam. Every visit I've had here has been horrible. They mess up the appointments, or they leave you waiting endlessly to be seen. They don't post accurate hours either - apparently they are closed every other Saturday, information I can't seem to find anywhere, so I've just wasted a day trying to pick up glasses that have already taken 3 weeks to come in. Their payment system is way overcomplicated and their products overpriced. The doctors are good, but every other aspect of this office is a nightmare. Edited (4/25/19) to add that the office was very accommodating after receiving my complaints, and very quick to remedy the website issue listing the hours. I've had a bad experience trying to deal with getting them to bill the correct insurance. I would advise any patients to ask upfront how billing will work, document everything, and make sure there are no surprises for you. I am all suspicious that most 5 stars reviews are from people who rarely use Yelp, while the reviews with few stars are from more frequent Yelp users. read more

If I could give zeros I would! I am going to follow up with Urgent Care as this practice couldn't be bothered with prescribing anything for my eye issues. I'm sitting here still in swollen eye pain after seeing this practice recently. Was told to just buy some ointment downstairs for dry eyes. One of the ointments isn't even made anymore. The first visit a year ago, I was just given samples. Second visit, I was told I have dry eyes yet again, and buy some ointment. I could have saved my time and Uber money. After seeing my chart in the patient portal, I see that there is a condition actually listed that was not discussed with me at all. If one has to go into Urgent Care to have their eyes treated after seeing an eye doctor, that is a HUGE problem. I feel that this was negligent and I will NOT be returning back I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

It was a decent experience for me. Especially comparing to my horrible experience in another optometrist place in DuPont Circle. However, they do try to hard sell to buy pair of glasses from their location. The visit for vision adjustments and health of the eyes are separate. Thankfully I have a good opthalmologist that I go to for my eyeball health so I didn't have to go to them. I have been seeing ophthalmologists for 30 years and have never had such an awful experience EVER in my entire adult life. When I called to make an appointment, I said I wanted a vision and medical exam as I have family history of glaucoma. Knowing how long eye appointments can take, especially with dilation and glaucoma testing, I took an afternoon off work for this. Half way through my appointment, Dr. Moainie tells me I need to come back another day for the glaucoma testing and when I asked why, I got same lame response about efficiency and that this is how their office operates. I made my second appointment and asked if I would need to pay another co-pay and they told me yes. Nice, huh? Good way to make more money by just making people come back for things that can be done the same day. On the day of my glaucoma testing, the vision field testing machine was frozen before my turn and they had to restart it which took 15 minutes, which didn't add much to my confidence level in this practice. Of course, when I met Dr. Moainie for the follow-up, he said he was concerned about my right eye based on the results of my vision field test....hmmm...(maybe it is y our broken machine?) but nothing else and wants to see me in 3 months. When I was leaving the office, I asked if I could get a copy of my medical records as I would like to get a second opinion (I have family history of glaucoma and it's only fair that I look into this further since this is the first time ever I have had a suspect result), and they made a huge stink about not being able to email my results and charging me another fee for releasing MY medial records to ME. Their office staff is rude, unhelpful, and seems to charge for every little thing. As for Dr. Moainie, not impressed. The fact that he had to tell me he is a professor at Georgetown on meeting me the first time, made me think that it was an odd way to start. Like, how insecure are you? I felt rushed through both my appointments, he was dismissive of my concerns, and lacked empathy. I will not be going back again and would recommend others not to waste their time. Dr. Saeed was fantastic! She was thorough and explained each procedure with detail and terms in which someone with no background in Optometry can understand. I also appreciate the attentiveness of all the staff at Visionary Eye Doctors. As soon as I walked through the doors, the receptionist was kind. At the end of my visit, they gave me my prescription and didn't force me to purchase glasses immediately. I talked to some of my friends about my experience and they were surprised! Many other eye doctor places are not as detailed. Thank you for creating an environment in which you really care for the patient and not just trying to sell them glasses. I needed to have 2 styes removed immediately as they were beginning to blur my vision and becoming increasingly painful. As I had had one of them for over 6 months, after having a consultation with Dr. Sarezky, he was extremely helpful and gentle while performing the procedure. I have been to many eye doctors in my career and this has been by FAR the worst experience I have ever had at a place. I paid for a pair of lenses back in December 2018. I was told they would come in within two weeks at the latest. It is August 8th 2019 and I still have not received them. I have called at least 12 times and have spoken to many people who work there. They have told me that they would look into this for me multiple times and that I would receive a call back at the end of the day Which has not happened. This has been going on now for a month and a half of back and fourth calls. I have asked for a refund which has still not been granted. I have bad eyes and Macula degeneration runs in my family so staying up to date on contact care is a must for me. This place is managed by negligent employees who don't care about their clients. read more

I have been to this practice a few times and have always had a good experience. Dr. Moanie and the team are fabulous. Very thorough and helpful. They explained everything very clearly and took time to answer my questions. The appointment does take a while so just plan accordingly, but that is par for the course when you get dilated. read more

The eye doctor was nice, but it seems like they massively overbook. If you have an appointment, expect to sit in the waiting room for at least an hour past your scheduled time. They do no care. It's IMPOSSIBLE to call the office with a quick question. They'll have you on hold for an hour then send you to a voicemail and never return the message. read more

Terrible doctor! Avoid! I thought the review below mine was a fluke and I wanted to give Dr. Friedman a try, but what a waste of my time, energy, and co-pay. I went in with a specific eye problem that didn't end up getting fixed and I had to see another opthalmologist for it from MedStar WHC who was fantastic by the way! Dr. Friedman's office is not only very old and run-down, but he doesn't have good bedside manner, and does not explain what he is doing while he's doing it. Lastly, the thing that ticked me off the most was that I made it clear I had just had an eye exam (from optometrist) very recently yet he still dilated my eyes, checked for glaucoma, etc (...if it was negative two months ago, it's negative now, and if no one in my family has it and I'm a healthy individual I probably don't have it)...yet he still checked for it because why? Well no other reason than to get more money from the insurance obviously and cause me to have blurry vision for the rest of the day. What a COMPLETE WASTE, please do not come here. read more

I went to this office for my annual check-up, and what was meant to be a routine 45-minute exam (I'd asked how long it would take when I made the appointment) turned into a nearly 2 hour experience. My doctor wasn't Dr. Leonard Friedman, but Dr. Nima S. Moainie. He was quite friendly and nice, but seemed to have some major issues budgeting his time. He left my in the MIDDLE of my eye exam and didn't return for 25 minutes. I finally got fed up and had to ask the receptionist where my doctor was. This is all before he dilated my eyes, so I then had to wait an extra 15 minutes later for my eyes to dilate. Later, the receptionist was even shaking her head, and said that I should have been out of there 30 minutes ago. This may just have been a bad day at the office, but I won't be returning next year. read more

I recently had an eye emergency, I took a direct hit to the left eye with the corner of a wet towel***OUCHEE***. I called Dr.Friedmans office after a friend recommended him.. His staff was amazing...the doctor was scheduled to leave..but said to come right in. I was seen immediately. Dr. Friedman was warm, gentle and EXTREMELY thorough. I felt at ease and all the worry melted into feeling like I was in good hands. He addressed my fears,answered my concerns, then made the pain go away. Yesterday was my first appt with Dr. Friedman for a routine eye exam. He was engaging, knowledgeable, very thorough AND takes my insurance (YAYYY!!!). I have an autoimmune disease and although I'm asymptomatic, should have my eyes thoroughly examined every year. I am so thrilled to have found Dr. Friedman. For me it's a fantastic two-fer - I get an optometry exam (for my glasses prescription) and at the same time have my ophthalmology appt. I also thought his staff was great - personable and professional. I couldn't be happier. Thanks, Dr. Friedman. The ONLY con is that I now have to find an optician's office that takes my insurance. As you'd expect, Dr. Friedman does not sell glasses. It's a small price to pay, however. I'd much rather have quality medical eye care, than the convenience of a one stop shop that also sells glasses. read more

I'm rating one star to draw attention. My visit was good, and I am satisfied with the service in general. But I feel like I was tricked to pay extra. I was told, during the check-in, if I want both prescription and medical exam. I asked, if they were both covered by insurance, twice. And I was told that they are both covered by insurance, and that there's nothing to worry about, and I need to pay two co-pays. All fantastic, until I came for check out, where I was asked to pay for the contact prescriptions. When I said that I wasn't told about this, and that I was assured that the both procedures are covered by insurance, the lady at the reception told me "I said prescription, not the contact prescription. And the contact prescription is not covered by insurance". I perfectly understand, that maybe it's part of the strategy. But I felt like it was a word game. A trick. If I was told "Prescription is covered, but not the contact prescription. But we recommend you to get the contact prescription regardless, because it only costs XXX and with the discount you have it will be YYY", I would most likely still go for it. Instead, with this attitude, you are loosing a client. read more

New to town and looking for professional and top notch eyecare. Thank God I was referred to this office for an in depth eye exam. From the very first visit, I decided I was going to come here instead of the first place. The staff at the front desk were very professional and courteous. The office was clean and socially distanced by seats and glass. The young people who performed my diagnostic testing were very kind and professional as well. I saw Dr. Nima Moainie and he was to the point about my condition and had me schedule a follow up appointment. My second visit was the same. Diagnostic tests, see the doctor, straight to the point...gave me good news, told me to get eye exams twice a year, I scheduled for 6 months and left. I spent most of my visit getting eyecare and not sitting in the waiting room. That's my type of doctors visit! I am very pleased with the service I received from Dr. Moainie and the Visionary Eye staff. I will definitely return in 2021. read more

I was referred to Dr. Alberto Martinez by my Eye Doctor since it was apparent I had developed Cataracts. I have never had such a wonderful experience at a Dr.'s office....ever. The staff is extremely professional and very rarely do you find yourself sitting in the lobby past your appointment time. Dr. Martinez is such a kind, sagacious, soulful man. He cares SO MUCH about his patients. He told me that he reminds himself everyday about the joy he feels from helping his patients, knowing that being able to see has changed so many of their lives. My eyesight has been so diminished for such a long time, I feel like I'm seeing for the first time. Dr. Martinez encouraged me to NOT lose that feeling and to continue to appreciate the beautiful universe we live in, just like it's the first time....everytime. He's the best. read more
