I have been seeing Dr. Ong for several years now and have been happy with the quality of care I have received. It's easy to make an appointment and I don't usually have to wait very long before being seen. It's also nice to have a quality appointment instead of being rushed out. Dr. Ong is knowledgeable and professional. I appreciate his willingness to answer questions too. The office staff is usually very welcoming too. The only minor draw backs may be a little disorganization of the office staff and not a huge selection of frames, but that doesn't bother me considering the quality of my appointment. We are fairly new to the area and I thought searching for a new eye doctor would be painful. I was wrong. We saw Dr. Lam and she was wonderful! Very easy to talk to, great listener and she answers all your questions. Yes, the wait time to see the Doctor was a little longer than I expected, but I understand why. The doctor called me in for my exam an HOUR after my actual appointment time. He rushed my exam and my daughters. I will not return to him. I will take my business elsewhere a place where the doctor takes their time and not 5 minutes.... at least his front desk staff makes up for his horrible service. I visited Dr. Winson Ong first time in August 2015 and loved it. Dr. Ong is top notch eye doctor in this area. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. His office has the state of the art eye exam machines so that you can have one stop shopping. He cares about your eye issues and offers solutions. He does a good job to follow up with your eye issues and make sure it improves. I highly recommend Dr. Winson Ong for eye care. Dr. Ong also checked my vision and prescribed a pair of reading glasses. It is much clearer than my existing one. read more

I've been coming here for 2 years now. I haven't had any issues until recently. Dr. Ong is really nice and does have quality work during my eye exams. However, it took about 10 days for my new glasses to come in. Since I live around Walnut Creek area, I had asked for my glasses to be picked up at the Antioch location. I was told that it was ready for pick up in Antioch and so I went the next day to pick it up. When I got to Antioch, they told me that no one had gone to Brentwood that day to pick it up so it's still in Brentwood.. I had to drive all the way to Brentwood which was disappointing. I came in to Brentwood and they just gave me my glasses without having me try them on first to see if it needed adjustments... after having my new glasses for a week I'm having pain issues in the back of my ears because of the frames. I called them and asked what their hours were for Fridays so I can come in for adjustments. They said they're open until 6pm. I got to the Antioch location at 5:40pm on a Friday and it says, "Closed, will be back at 3pm"... what a disappointed for the 2nd time. They definitely lost a customer. It's already a far drive for me and I felt that they were inconsiderate; bad customer service. read more

If this was rated on Dr Ong himself it would be a slam dunk 5 Star. He is efficient and thorough. The problem is his Staff. They are incompetent, unfriendly, unhelpful and to be honest, not very bright. Speaking to them in person is painful. Painful. And speaking to them on the phone is frustrating. I'm not sure what type of schooling or training or education goes into being able to be employed here but whatever it is, it's not enough. I'm a family of 5. All of us have eye glass needs. I have been going to Dr. Ong for 8 years . My husband was going to a specialist for his rare form of glaucoma. He went to Dr Ong and received the same level of care that he had from the specialist. Dr Ong also has our adult children for patients. He noticed that our daughter had the same curvature in her eyes as my husband. So he has been monitoring her for the same rare form of glaucoma. The level of thoroughness is outstanding. They also have a great staff and good locations. read more

I do not know why one reviewer said not to go to this office if you have VSP coverage. I have VSP and all my benefits work great with both Antioch & Brentwood offices of Dr. Winson Ong, and the office staff has been great about explaining everything. He accepts several insurance providers, but the office also knows which optical labs offer better quality control and which insurance covers which optical labs. Just ask! We love Dr. Winson Ong for eye health, glasses, and contacts! We have been with Dr. Ong since 2010. My vision is rather complicated (double vision astigmatism), but Dr. Winson Ong corrected my glasses way better than what I had with Kaiser, and his prices were cheaper than Kaiser when I compared the exact same glasses specs. Kaiser only offered polycarbonate as their thinnest lens, but Dr. Ong has a high index lens that is more lightweight than polycarbonate; this is great for a severely near-sighted person like I am, where mine would be super coke-bottle look even with polycarbonate. Dr. Ong is very patient and thorough, always asking if I have any more questions. He has a special machine that takes an image of your retina; his analysis of my retina and scar tissue answered why one eye's vision is not as super perfect as the other, but my vision is still excellent with his correction and am able to play tennis! We have also seen Dr. Ong about pink eye and other eye health concerns, and he is very proactive with recommendations and understanding about lifestyle I give Dr. Winson Ong my highest recommendation. read more

Barely 2 stars for me. Dr. Ong was not part of the problem. 1 or 2 members on the staff are under performing. I asked for someone to give me a price for putting newer lenses in my existing frames. She was very nice and patient. I told her I wanted to think about it before I spent $300 on lenses only. She said no problem I'll scan the quote and put it in your file, if you decide you want them anyone can look it up and place the order. Not so. I went back the next day. No one knew what I was talking about. I wasted an hour getting the quote then wasted another hour waiting for someone to find the quote. I walked out after someone else said "can I help you". Help me????? I've been here for an hour waiting for one of your ASSociates to find my a record of my quote. "Where did she go" ??? I said. I don't know she responded what did you need? I said forget it and left. The management needs to WAKE UP and get rid of the slugs that are dragging the rest of you down. read more

Dr. Ong is very friendly and intelligeable during our check-ups. His front desk staff, on the other hand, particularly the lady named Tanya is snobby and rude. I bought a new pair of glasses for my daughter last January, and at that time Tanya had apparently changed the original nosepiece to a cheap silicon nosepiece without clear explaination to my daughter. She claimed that it would fix the issue of slipping off her face which makes no sense whatsoever. Then unsurprisingly early this August, one of the nosepieces snapped off the glasses so my daughter went to clinic to have them replaced for free since the glasses I purchased from them. My issue was that Tanya, who was the one that coincidentally renewed the broken nosepiece, did not just change the other one also because it is yellowed from use. When I went to get it changed, she had the nerve to threaten me that it would have been a $15 charge to change the nosepiece in the first place and that she just did it for free. I did not pay extra for a premier coverage to be intimidated like that. I am unsatisfied with the customer service and will no longer be taking my family in the future. We deserve a better serBy the way , Walmart change it for free even eyeglass was not purchased from them. read more

I've visited many optometrists throughout my 25+ years in East CoCo and Dr. Ong is by far the best. I've been there twice now and am thoroughly impressed with the service, facilities and availability for appointments. This facility has state of the art equipment I haven't seen at any other office in the area - no more paper eye chart or 48 different glass lenses that are flipped in front of you for 15 minutes. I so wanted to give a 5 star, however, I had some major issues here. The Dr. was awesome, I had complete confidence. The problem started with a rebate from the contacts I purchased, the rebate was the only reason I ordered contacts through them. I could have ordered them anywhere Costco etc. They said allow 4-6 weeks to get my Visa gift card rebate, I waited 8 weeks & called the office, I was told the rebate place was just very backed up, then I was sent a link so I could follow the progress myself. I waited another 30 days & it showed still being processed, I call the rebate center to find out why it was taking so long, I was informed that the application for the rebate had only been applied on the day I called Balfour Optix. They never filed until I called and then lied about it and blamed the rebate center. I finally received my rebate in Jan. I bought my contacts in August. I find that totally unacceptable, I called and spoke with the Manager, I didn't feel the issue was properly addressed. So I guess it's a conundrum, like the Dr., front office, not so much. read more

I love Dr. Ong and his entire staff. I've been wearing glasses for over 50 years, so I've gone to many places for eye care. He is by far the most knowledgeable and caring of anyone I've ever seen. My prescriptions are always perfect. And even with my severe Astigmatism, he was able to fit me for disposable contacts. That was a first for me and a nice option to have. Everyone in the front office is friendly and helpful. They do a great job assisting Dr. Ong. Any questions are answered, any problems resolved. You get a personal touch that other offices lack. Writing this review is extremely bittersweet to me. I want so bad to give Dr. Ong a 5 star review as HE absolutely deserves. My visits with him are fabulous, he is extremely intelligent and always seems to remember the little details about my life which makes him so personable. Dr. Wendy is great as well, I have only seen her a few times but was very pleased. Here is why this is not a 5 star review as it should be. Unfortunately along with these two intelligent doctors comes their front desk staff, and to the best of my ability I cannot remember ever having a smooth interaction with them. On top of the fact that they are completely incompetent with even the most basic transactions, they always seem to be gossiping with one another, either right there at the front desk, or visibly in the back room. I don't know if its a lack of knowledge or the fact that they truly just don't care, however it is frustrating to say the least. The absolute best advice I can give to Dr. Ong is truly just to fire his entire front desk staff and to start over. I've been coming here since I moved to Brentwood about 6 years ago, and unfortunate to say that I believe my next appointment will be my last.
