Went in for a $10 exam, suddenly they wanted $90 to give me my prescription. Must be slow due to COVID, need to generate income somehow.

I came in with an eye infection after spending the morning in pain. When I explained my situation the doctor agreed to see me last minute. Everyone in the office was kind and accommodating. They even whipped up a pair of temporary glasses for me overnight as I have a monster prescription, didn't have glasses, and was unable to wear my contacts. I went to this office a few months back to get a quote for new lenses, as I already had frames that I wanted to use. I provided them with my prescription information, and the girl I spoke with quoted me $320.00. I went to Costco in Tracy to get a second quote and once again provided my prescription information, and I was quoted $199.00 for the same exact lenses. I have yet to understand why there was a $121.00 difference in the two price quotes! Obviously I went with Costco, and my new lenses are PERFECT! read more

Terrible Customer Service. I made several visits to this office to get a new prescription. I also intended on ordering reading and sunglasses. The office never got the frames in that they promised. Finally, over a month later they called and scheduled me to come in. Took time off work and the frames were not there. Called today to get the pupillary and pupil distance and they wouldn't release without me paying another $50.00 per Dr. Ong. I already paid for his services when he did my new prescription. None of this was delayed due to COVID since my appointment was prior to COVID. Front desk staff very courteous but the way the manager and Dr. Ong dealt with this is unacceptable. If they did there job right in the first place they would have had two orders. I cannot read without glasses so this isn't an option to not handle this myself now. read more

A few weeks ago I asked about Vision optix and how they were. The reviews on Dr Ong were fantastic but the reviews on the counter staff were horrible. Being that I was going to see dr Ong and not the front counter staff I decided to give them a try. I don't remember who talked bad about the staff in front but I could not have been happier. We both needed new rx's and were able to find this great office. The dr took his time, allowed both of us to do the exam together, explained everything, has a Great personality and even looked up a specific set of glasses for my driving pair. After getting everything ordered, the glasses arrived as expected, unfortunately, my driving pair had 'stress fractures' from the lab. They were immediately sent back and after waiting another week they're perfect! Dr Ong is an extra caring, knowledgeable, and professional doctor. He takes very good care of my eyes checking them for effects of diabetes. He dilates and examines my eyes and takes pictures to compare for changes. Love, love, love them! My family had been going here for about 5 years, but when my baby was just 1 year old we noticed his eye started wandering. As a parent I was so worried. I had brought my son right in and Dr Ong and he was able to check is eyes. He let me know that he was fine. He just had a lazy eye and he would need glasses. At 18 months old we were able to get glasses for my baby and he put them right on and could see! Can you imagine an 18 month old actually leaving his glasses on because he could see. I wasn't sure how he was going to get a prescription for a baby, but he did it. My baby is4 now. When my baby would get really upset he would occasionally get mad and throw his glasses. They fixed the lenses for free from the inevitable scratches. They are a very honest and professional staff. They have all the designer brands you love. They accept VSP if you have insurance. I love Dr Ong and his staff at the Antioch and Brentwood locations. I highly recommend them for all your vision needs! read more

The customer service over the phone was great so my husband and I were happy to have found a local optometrist since we're fairly new to the area. Once we got to the office, our opinions of the place took a turn for the worst. The front desk staff was rude and had no explanation for why my husband was left waiting 15-20 minutes after his appointment was scheduled to start. Several people came after him and had appointments scheduled after his and they were called to the back within 2-5 minutes after arriving. When my husband asked what was going on the staff looked at each other, giggled, and one of them told him to "just go back and take a seat". I'll start by saying Dr. Ong is awesome. He's very thorough and one of the best I've seen in all my years of needing glasses/contacts. The problem is the front office staff. They are... To put it bluntly... Pretty terrible. They do not call people back. They don't know how to bill properly. They leave A LOT to be desired. For how much the business charges for frames and lenses (overpriced!)... It is totally not worth dealing with them. Dr. Ong and his staff are amazing. I have been going to the office for several years for my regular eye exams. A couple months ago, I starting having some major issues with my eye and had to been seen a couple times a week for about 7-8 weeks. After spending that much time in one office, you start to realize so much. They were consistently customer service oriented (special shout out to Jose), timely with my appointments and they even partnered with my PCP to get some additional tests ordered. Well what turned out to almost be a complete waste of time actually turned out to be a very pleasant experience and Gina helped us and did a great good taking care of us. I have Spectra Insurance. And I was advised and reassured by Spectra that Vision Optix was in my network. But when I arrived, I was told that they don't accept new patients with this insurance because they are difficult to deal with and take a very long time in processing claims. So at first I thought, great where do I go now?! Well the optometrist came out and explained himself, and ended up bringing me in as a new patient. My Oakley frames were ordered and on their way. My family and I have been patients for the past 9 years now. I can say I have never had a problem. My questions are always answered. Dr. Ong and his team are very pleasant. I'm always greeted when I arrive for my appts. A year ago I went in for my annual exam. Drone was very concern because he felt my vision should not have changed since the last exam. They just can't get it right. 1st I couldn't get Dr. Mary to retest my eyes, Even though I couldn't see out of the perscription she made that day (Jan. 3rd 2019). She blamed my eyes. I finally was retested in April & YES, the perscription was wrong & had to be changed. Then, because they had to re-Do my eye exams and lenses, they reduced the quality of the lenses which I had already paid $$$$$ for the in Jan. (The crizol, dark tint etc... in Jan). I've had these lightly tinted glasses for about 2 months and the scratch resistant Crizol is scratched and fog is in the glass. I won't go back this time. I'm disappointed. I called Balfour Vision Optix and they were able to get me an appointment the following day. I saw the doctor right away and the exam was thorough, efficient and fast. Short Story: - Nice new office - beautiful and open space - Friendly and thoughtful staff - Staff member was great at fitting the glasses - Dr. Ong is nice and patient (my mom says I talk too much and tells me to stop wasting the doctor's time often, but he's the one who asked about how we were doing!) - Dr. Ong has high standards. He does not accept any glass lenses from the lab that are not to his exact specifications. - Great selection of glasses has improved and there are more cool glasses this time, but really if you see anything else you like online or at another store, he can order them in for you. Long Story: Dr. Ong moved to a new location and their new office is really beautiful and contemporary. Even his look has been updated, maybe by his wife? :-) He looks as sharp as his new office now. Anyhow, the new office is nice with an open seating area for selecting your glasses and for waiting, with plenty of magazines. The staff is very nice and friendly, even though they were training at least one young newbie. Here's an example of how nice the staff can be. I needed hot water to warm my baby's milk bottle, but had only brought our warming container, and forgotten our Thermos. The young staff member gave me faucet hot water which wasn't very hot. The more mature lady saw that and gave me really hot water instead from the back. She said something like, oh the young ones don't understand yet what you need to heat a baby's bottle. How thoughtful of her! Dr. Ong had one particular staff member help my mother try on her selected glasses. She was really good at correcting the way my mom was putting her glasses on, which was actually wrong, and hanging low off the bridge of her nose. My mom was complaining that glasses hurt her nose if worn long and the lady understood and explained that they always switch out the nose pads with a new material (silicone?) that wouldn't hurt like the old ones and could be adjusted to bring the glasses back up to the proper position and still provide support where she wanted. Then Dr. Ong double-checked and marked the lens for the position of my mom's pupils or her bifocals, I'm guessing. After we ordered the glasses, Dr. Ong later notified me that they would take a litlle longer to come in. He didn't like the way the lab had done the lenses, that they weren't as he specified or something. That's really awesome. He seems to have done that for her every time. My mom insists on seeing him because of this, because all the other glasses she's ever gotten from other optometrists her whole life have always felt misaligned or off for some reason. I suspect that they never push back on the lab the way Dr. Ong does. He reminds me of our dentist, who always sends back the dentures for corrections. Okay, that's my mom's dentures - not mine. Ok, maybe I talk too much, but it's really not my fault that Dr.Ong is nice enough to take his time to ask how we're doing and listen. He is partially responsible for carrying on the conversation. :-P He also answers my curious questions. Didn't you ever wonder about those pictures he took of your eyeballs? They've got so many interesting veins and stuff going thru them. Anyways, Dr. Ong is a nice dude and we never feel rushed talking to him or asking a bazilion questions, but I'll try to keep it short the next time we see him. read more

I work in the ophthalmology field so I know the difference between a good experience and a bad one. The staff was very receptive from the moment I walked in the door. Not just with me but with everyone. Dr. Ong was very friendly, informative and thourough. The glasses selection was good. This would be the only thing I would like to see a little improvement on. I have been a patient of Dr. Ong's for several years now. I was having a lot of issue with getting eye infections due to my contacts and he was not only helpful in getting my eyes treated but he also helped me to find the perfect contacts to wear and hooray no more eye infections! He is also very informative and able to answer all my questions. He is super nice and so his the staff there. They are always so helpful when I call or when I come in for appointments. Even though I do not live or work in Brentwood anymore I still keep Dr. Ong as my doctor and make the trips from Livermore just to go to his practice. I was able to get in quickly and Dr. Ong was extremely kind and eager to treat the case aggressively. Not only did he treat me onsite with initial medication but he helped me find the best generic eye drops with a coupon saving me more than $100 at the pharmacy (savings from coupon and finding generic brand) Not only did he make sure the pharmacy had what I needed in stock he also printed out a coupon for the product for me. Absolutely loved this office. I haven't been to the eye doctor in many many years. The staff and Dr Ong made me feel right at home. Each and every one of them explained everything through out the examination, which was very helpful being how foreign I am to optic issues.
