My husband gets his contact lenses from Vision Express and has always been very pleased with their excellent service. They regularly test his eyes rather than just keep handing out lenses. The staff are all helpful and friendly, particular the lady who deals with the contact lenses. They do a good selection of glasses across a wide price range. I have my eye tests here and, for some reason, I am always nervous but the staff really put you at ease and explain everything they are going to do and make sure you are happy with all of it. Very friendly staff providing excellent service. The range of glasses available is outstanding. The prices are wide raging with cheaper ranges right up to designer brands. The frames avable are nicely designed and of good quality. The staff are kind and make sure you are comfortable throughout you visit. Vision express optician here at Chelmsford told me I had a prescription and needed to wear glasses all the time. As I had not had an eye test for a very long time I assumed this to be correct. So I bought a couple of pairs of glasses (as they recommended two pairs) and persevered for about four weeks, but all they did was give me headaches and terrible pain in my eyes. So I popped into an independent optician as someone recommended me to, and although I did have a very small prescription, I was told I did not need to wear glasses and to come back in 2 years! So to make sure I went to specsavers also and they said the same, no glasses needed and come back in 2 years! So back to vision express where I was told I MUST have another test, so I booked this, but when I went back I did not want to waste another lunch hour, so I complained and after arguing with the optician and the manager for the best part of an hour they finally agreed to give my money back! They tried to fob me off, saying I would have been told that glasses would sharpen my eyesight and were recommended, but that was simply not the case, both the optician and the shop clerk who served me said that I needed to wear glasses all the time! Moral of the story if it's your first time getting glasses get a second opinion! read more

Also my very first time going for a eye test about 6 years ago, they recommended reading glasses for me, I also wanted sunglasses and my daughter needed glasses for short sight. I ended up paying close to £500 for 3 pairs. I went to Specsavers a few years later and only paid well under £200 for 2 pairs of glasses ( reading and sunglasses) of similar type that i bought at Vision Express. Will never go back there again. Also want to mention they treat their staff terribly. My daughter ended up working for them, she was treated badly, they tried to restrict the staff from having a drink or using the bathroom when necessary etc, etc and it got even worse when she did some investigating as to what her rights as a worker was.And stood up for her rights, they made her life miserable after that. I never realised how depressed she was while working for that company. Now that she is working for a company who treat workers fairly her whole personalty has changed. The way she was treated affected us as a family and that made me very angry, my wife had to stop me from going there and sorting them out. they lost a lot of staff just recently because of their bad attitude to staff. I want to lay a complaint against them, they should not be able to get away with it. read more
