Cardiac nurses are on par with a few sub par ones here and there. Because Erlanger is the local catchment hospital the staff is accustomed to dealing with the worst our county has therefore sporadically you'll find jaded, tired nurses. All the local nursing school graduates start out on nights at Erlanger so keep that in mind. All that said, the LEVEL of treatment is first rate. It has a top class Trauma program with ~6 helicopters, and a top rated neonatal unit with plenty of experienced nurses who can be a little protective of the babies in their care (these are the kind of nurses you want). Because of pressures placed on hospitals by payors I ALWAYS tell friends that they should have a knowledgeable person the rounding physician and talk with and some one with the patient at all times that knows their meds, routines and normal behaviors. Hospitalist doctors are the weak link. They work shifts and once they leave you have a different one that'll probably disagree with the prior hospitalist. Don't hesitate to reach out the the patients mail doctor to get questions answered.

On my 4th one, his team had to streamline the hospitals they would work out of as it was a good haul for them from their main office. I really wanted to be at Chi and not another hospital, and this fine surgeon worked it out with another doctor there to switch a shift so that my surgery could happen at Chi Memorial. Like the show Cheers, I was happy to be back to the hospital where everybody knew my name! It is my home hospital, where I am happy to go should I need their attention! ER waiting rooms are different. Waits can be long, even when it seems that they do not have a lot of people waiting. But not every emergency comes through those doors. Some come through other doors that we may not see. I am betting that some staff have to treat more than people who are coming through the ER door. I never felt anyone was being negligent. There are stages, and depending on what needs to be done, shorter or longer waits. From the people who take your information and then move it out, then the ones that take your vitals, then the ones that take your blood samples, then the lab technicians who have to analyze those blood samples or whatever is sent to them, and then being ushered inside to a room if necessary, where finally a nurse will come in, and then after her the doctor, and finally the nurse to release you. That is a heck of a lot of people for one emergency room patient (me). I know I can feel like it's forever, so just try to remember that inbetween treating you, the medical staff may need to first save a life of someone who coded before they could come into your room. All praise to all of the hospital staff! Each time I wished I could give them a gigantic bouquet of flowers!

I was seen by a blonde female Physician's Assistant who took great care of me and got me on my way. I thought I blew my eardrum but I only had a bad ear infection, so happy surprise not to have blown my ear out! The blond RN was super friendly too! Erlanger ER let him go after 30 min because he didn't have a "specific plan" to harm himself. He'd never exhibited these behaviors before. Food was awful. Dr came in at 8 am to release. I was on my way about 9 15 to pick up my husband but they had not even told him he was leaving. Breakfast was brought in same time girl came to move him out of the room. He had to get up dress fast and pack his things. They took him to ER waiting area for me. No one told him Anything. Overall care was mediocre. Such a disappointment. We have memorial too and it's horrible so no good hospitals in Chattanooga. Parkridge is making the entrance new and modern but they need to worry about their care of patients more. The cafeteria is a joke.

It shows once again the office manger only cares about screwing people out of every last penny and not about proper care and listening.
