Called ahead to place our order. We had a craving for Italian and this was the only place nearby that had pasta and pizza with decent reviews. By the time we arrived, we still had to wait a bit because they had just begun our order. I do like my food hot so I didn't mind, and they were really nice and apologized for the wait. I was a bit iffy about the cleanliness. I watched them switch from station to station, brush their hair or touch their face and then the food again. We had the meat lover calzone. It was very nicely stuffed and a great, light crispy breading. But it was really watery and wet so as we ate, there was a big puddle of water. I thought it would leak oil or something but it was just water. I think it might be from the tomato sauce. It wasn't the most appealing by the end. I also got the spaghetti meatball. I actually really liked the pasta and the simple basil tomato sauce. It hit the spot for me. But the meatballs were really bad. They were oddly cut in half and had a sour, off flavor. I think the meat had gone bad. I couldn't eat it and since we did take away, I couldn't really get it redone or tell the staff. Overall, I'm glad we gave it a try anyway. It was not the best food experience and probably won't get the same items again. The pizza does look good though so maybe we will try that next time we're around. read more

Came here because when you look up "takeout" in Pickering the reviews are one of the highest. Was told 15 minutes on the phone. Got there in 17 minutes and they had not started cooking it yet but I could see it being made. No other people in the restaurant except one person who seemed to be a friend of the worker. 2 Employees, one was chatting at the take out counter, one was making pizza. Neither greeted me until I had walked right by them and been standing at the cash for some time. No hello or even asking me my order. Just stood there chatting ignoring me. I paid and the machine prompted 10%/15% and I believe 20% (May have been 18%). Walked out of there 30 minutes after ordering and 15 minutes after it was supposed to be done. We had ordered a shareable New Yorker pizza and 1 garlic dip. Got it home in under 6 minutes and went to eat right away, only to find out the pizza dough was mostly raw and the slices were just a big floppy uncut mess. Understanding this type of thing happens I called back to let them know and was told by the gentleman on the phone "I didn't take that one out of the oven". I told him I understand that but somebody did and it's not cooked... at all. After he put me on hold for a second he came back and said "I asked the other guy and he said it was cooked well" I said "ok thank you very much" and he said "bye" and firmly hung up the phone. I'll include photos of the pizza and the 1/3 filled dip cup that was $0.99. I'm not going to review the pizza itself because the photos speak for themselves but due to the customer service alone I would never come back. Absolutely disgusted in the customer service for this so called business. Placed an order online at 1pm. Website stated it would be 40 minutes u till ready. Arrive at 1:45pm to an empty store. Stood there for five minutes, a worker comes in from his smoke break and helps me at the front to get my pick up. (Keeping in mind I have a 30 minute lunch, left the office at 1:35pm to pick up and get there for 1:45pm). Front staff can't find my meal anywhere. He spends time looking for it and then calls another worker on the phone. Comes back to me and says he will make it now and it will be ready in five. At this point my break is up and I need to get back to the office and don't have five minutes to spare, unless they wanted to call my boss and explain why I'm late. I just wanted my refund and oh boy was that a disaster. Between being shushhhhed multiple times by the manager, yelled at, disrespected and told I can't get a refund and that I need to go to the company....... The owner at one point actually walked away mid conversation about the refund and left me and the worker there. Now I have heard some bad reviews about this place but really really enjoy the food so ignored the negative reviews I heard about and read about regarding respect and customer service. Boy was that a mistake. Stay clear from this place unless you wanna be disrespected, yelled at, talked to like an idiot, shushed, called mommmmmaa ten times, walked away on by the owner. Honestly still kinda shaking from the experience. Like wth just happened. I didn't have time to wait for the food to be made after already 45 minutes. Not a place I will ever being going back to. I would recommend this place to others, one of the better pizza places in Pickering. Ordered the Primavera and Margherita pizzas for dinner both were really good. Friendly service as well. Only complaint is that the price is a little on the higher end. But other than that be other negatives. read more

3.5 stars I came here for lunch on Good Friday and it wasn't very busy. I think because it's quite new, not many people know about this place. The staff are friendly and the service is fast, but it's a tad bit pricey. We ordered 2 Margherita Pizzas and 2 Pepperoni Pizzas with 4 fountain drinks and it came out to about $48.95 or so. If you like thin crust neopolitan style pizza, this is the spot for you! The ingredients are definitely fresh and overall the food tastes good. The atmosphere is very casual, with limited seating and slightly uncomfortable metal chairs. The ordering style is at the counter and when your number is called, you go up at the end of the counter to grab your pizzas. It's definitely good for a quick lunch or take out. As a frequent visitor to this plaza I am ashamed to say that I've passed by it a million times and not realized it was a pizza/pasta place! This is a good thing because I normally come to this area to work out and because they serve all my favourites, this place would have definitely got me into a calorie surplus instead of a deficit. It's kind of a laid back place so you order at the counter, your order is prepared, and you pick it back up at the counter. You seat yourself and take care of getting drinks, cutlery, and ultimately busing your table. The food is anything but laid back. They proudly advertise that they import the flour they use for their pizza and pasta from Italy and they make everything fresh in house. They have some lunch specials that are really a killer deal. Since we were there on a Thursday, the meaty penne pasta was $8 and change which is about half off from its normal price of $15+. We ordered that and the chicken alfredo to split. The pastas came out on real dinnerware so it's not quite your average fast food place but without service. The penne was very saucy and might have been a tad bit on the sour side. I really liked the alfredo though which was rich and creamy without being heavy. The chicken was also grilled and had its own great flavour even without the sauce. You could really taste and feel the texture difference between the handmade pasta and store bought pasta as well. We actually added a meat lovers pizza to go as well. The personal sized pizza was a whopping $20 which is a lot compared to the chains that are around. It was topped with a lot of bacon and I found it to be a little bit salty. The crust was thin and didn't wow me as much as the pasta did. The food was very good but a little bit expensive for a more casual vibe. I've wanted to order from Vis-a-vis for a while since we moved up to Pickering, So I decided to order tonight to support a local takeout business. I ordered a calzone with just pepperoni, mozzarella and tomato sauce. I'm a big believer in the idea that if you can't make a good pepperoni pizza, you probably shouldn't mess around with speciality ones! Anyways, the calzone was a decent size and was super filling, and the taste was absolutely phenomenal. The tomato sauce had a nice garlicky kick to it, and the dough was great as well. Honestly, it's probably the best calzone I've ever had and I've already raved about it to a few people. I kinda stumbled across this place when looking for lunch after a round of golf. It's new so I had to try it. Their menu has a selection of stone baked pizzas and pastas and they have a showcase with some good looking desserts. They also sell wine and beer. Ordering and pickup is done at the counter. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was good, although I would have preferred a little more sauce. I like lots of sauce so that's probably just me. A friend had recommended this place to us, so when we were in the area we decided to try it out. The place itself is more fast food than a seat down restaurant. There was only a handful of tables. Fortunately it was not that busy that day. We ordered prosciutto and arugula pizza, pepperoni pizza and spaghetti meatballs. Prosciutto and arugula pizza: was pretty good, had a lot of toppings, was also baked in a wooden oven. My only complaint was that the crust was a little over done for my liking. Pepperoni pizza: was also pretty good. Not your typical Pizza Pizza. You can tell that they use premium ingredients for all their food. And it does make a difference in terms of taste. Spaghetti meatballs: was also good. Homemade tomato sauce and meatballs. Pasta was also cooked al dente. Overall the experience was pretty good. Its a little pricy because they use good quality ingredients. They may however have to change the format of the place into an actual sit down restaurant. So on this particular day we had actually come to this area of pickering to get some Jamaican food from Beryl's Pepper Pot which is right next door. I have always loved pizza and always game to try something new and interesting. So the signs outside tempted me with promises of authentic italian pizza, with pasta from Italy a wood burning oven etc. So my mouth started to water and in I went. The decor in this place is very nice and modern. We ordered the personal size primavera pizza. They do have many interesting items on the menu which tempt me to visit again. Solid spot in pickering for a thin crust pizza. We ordered the New Yorker, with pepperoni, bacon, and roasted garlic - it was quite good - a little expensive at $24. We also ordered the Margherita pizza - which I was a little disappointed by. The flavour was lacking and the tomato sauce was a bit overwhelming. Finally a decent pizza place in Pickering. This place is tucked away in the home depot plaza but definitely deserves more attention than what I've seen. This place is open is open and airy, but it is narrow and gets pretty hot from the stone pizza oven. FOOD: I ended up trying the tropical BBQ chicken pizza. Normally I'm pretty hesitant on ordering BBQ pizzas as the BBQ sauce that replaces the tomato sauce is quite sweet, but the BBQ sauce used at Vis-a-Vis is more savoury than sweet (which is a plus for me as I prefer savoury pizzas). The pineapples are actually what brings out the sweetness of the pizza. I also really enjoyed how they grated extra fresh cheese on the pizza after it comes out of the oven!! However, the chicken was the only ingredient I didn't quite enjoy on the pizza even though it's supposed to be the star of the show. The chicken ended up being thin shaved slices (kind of like a thick turkey ham) instead of chunks or thicker strips. Overall, a great place to go for quality pizza. I stopped in this place as I saw the signage advertising pizza from a wood oven. Besides, the Mr. Greek next door wasn't peaking my interest. I ordered the New Yorker small pizza. I was amazed that my pizza was made in 11 minutes. The crust was done to perfection and the toppings were generous. I am not a fan to thick crust pizzas and this one had a crust that I didn't mind eating. Today, I was back at Vis-a-Vis, and I just had to write a new review to capture the excellent pizza experience that my daughter and I enjoyed. I have always had my qualms about the thin-crust, Neapolitan style pizza, although I must say that the whole idea of a wood-burning stove is something that I find thrilling. Perhaps I just want to go camping again. Anyway, we had a magnificent meal ... the best pizzas yet in all of my visits to Vis-a-Vis. We arrived at 11:15, and the owner was there, making the pizzas. I ordered Quattro Fromaggi and my daughter ordered Mighty Meatball. I asked to have my pizza baked with an extra little char on the crust, and the very genial owner willingly obliged. My daughter's was soft and crispy, as she likes, and mine was crunchy and flavourful. The toppings were superb ... so fresh! I haven't had such a fresh garlic and gorgonzola taste on my pizza in ages! This visit impressed me more than any of my previous visits: I don't know whether the owner just has that magic touch, or whether they have somehow tweaked their pizza methods, but this was really a standout. As I mentioned, I generally prefer a thick crust (hello, Auntie's Recipe!) but today, for a nice lunch, Vis-a-Vis was right on point! The price is around $12 give or take for a personal sized pizza - completely depending on your toppings, so it is about the average price for takeout/fast food meals, but without a drink or any sides. The pizza is thin crust and tasted pretty good, but I think getting a regular pizza from elsewhere is a bit better value, unless you are really looking for that Neapolitan style pizza. The pizzas are very reasonably priced and even the small size is good enough for the two of us. We ordered the Prosciutto and Arugula pizza and it tasted so good! However, their Caesar salad is just average home-made level so we didn't fancy it too much. The seatings are very comfortable and spacious and the inner decorations are pleasant. I am really enjoying this place. It's the Italian food I want when I go to the fancy places downtown, but it's right here. We ordered 3 entrees for the 2 of us. I loved the spaghetti and meatballs. I ate more than my half. The tomato sauce had a really nice flavour, I used the bit left in the dish for the calzone. I liked the baked option instead of deep fried. The top centre was cheese instead of crust. A little gourmet touch. Pizza was excellent . It has a higher price point than the chain stores. But the quality is much higher. I would rather this and pay a little more and really enjoy it. The presentation was a like a higher end restaurant. Shaved cheese on top was like a higher end restaurant. My husband is always looking for a pizza -gasm. This is the closest so far. They have a halal option. The quality of the halal toppings are really good. I like the option so I can come with friends and the menu is not super limited for them. It's comfortable to sit and eat, usually at places like this I feel hurried, not so here. The manger did a quality check and asked how everything was, you order at the counter, but that was a nice touch, like table service. My husband asked. They make everything fresh, even the meatballs. Probably why the food was so good. The place was clean, no dirty tables, no mess. Open kitchen concept so you can see the food prepared. We will definitely be returning when we are the area. After the demise of the last VPN-esque pizza joint in these parts (PIE Wood-fired) I was amazed to see somebody else try to take a shot at that market. I fully expected this to be PIE (with all its crazy pizza combinations) relaunched as fast food/takeout. But it isn't. Not even close. Way better. The best way to describe Vis-a-Vis, it's Blaze/Mod Pizza without the Subway/Chipotle/Mucho Burrito style "toppings bar". You choose from one of their 12 signature pizzas or create your own, they assemble it for you, and then the pizza bakes in the 1000F rotating oven imported from Italy, which has both gas and wood fire in order to get both consistent heat and the smoked flavor and avoiding having to rely on staff to keep the pizzas moving around for even cooking. Once in the oven the pizza is done in less than 4 minutes. Pizzas start at $8.50 for a small margherita all the way up to $29 for a large Veggie Mania. If you feel like Blaze Pizza but don't want to go all the way downtown to Yonge-Dundas Square or don't want to pad LeBron James' bank account, give Vis-a-Vis a try. I hope this place does better than PIE did, but going the QSR route rather than full service restaurant/bar is the right way to go. read more

I finally came around to trying this place this weekend. Like many others I have been searching for a place to fill my void for pizza that PIE use to cater to. The restaurant itself is quite long and narrow with two tables in the front and a few more along one side of the restaurant. FYI they also have high chairs if you want to bring the kiddies. In addition to pizzas they serve pastas, calzones, salads, and desserts as well as beer & wine. I was doing a take out order and picked two small pizzas to try Margherita - Tomato sauce, Fior di latte, basil and extra virgin olive oil Spicy Hawaiian - Spicy BBQ sauce, mozzarella, pineapple, jalapeño, and ham What I loved about this place is that they knead the dough to order. Right before your eyes they are creating your pizza from scratch and the best part it cooks up in less than 5 minutes. I was in rush so that was amazing! The pizza itself is surprisingly flavourful! They're tomato sauce is well seasoned and the cheeses are nice gooey. The spicy Hawaiian ended up being our favourite of the two pizzas and a real stand out as well. It is definitely spicy! I love there use of super fresh ingredients! The pizza had nice big rings of freshly cut jalapeños and I liked how they chopped up the ham into tiny little cubes so that every inch of the pizza was showered in meat. Both pizzas were garnished with a scattering of fresh chopped basil. They don't skimp on ingredients here! The only thing I can fault the pizzas on is there crust. I found it a bit chewy and was expecting more of crisp woody taste. I'm not sure if it's because I got them as take out and didn't end up eating it until 20 minutes later so I won't really fault them on that. I tried their Margarita Pizza and was very surprised to have such a clean, tasty pizza. The crust was perfect. Well cooked and not chewy. I prefer a more woody taste but there is nothing wrong with this one. The sauce was very well balanced. Beautiful tomato flavour. Cheese was flavourful and stringy. A spicy oil for people like me to add some heat would be a great addition. Very much worth visiting and trying. I'll try their homemade pasta next time. I just don't like that kind of pizza. If you do, then I expect you will love it here. Me, not my style. If you order "Thin Crust" ... Walked in for a pickup order and said "hey how's it going" and all I got was "pickup ?" with some attitude from the "I don't really want to be here right now" teen behind the counter. Wasn't impressed. Older gentlemen was very nice and greeted me nicely. Had the chicken pesto and margherita pizza was quite good. It's not bad enough for me to say that I wouldn't come back here. I got the cheesy bread sticks and the panzerotti/ calzone and it did taste good but it didn't make me feel like I've never tasted a calzone that was so incredible.
