So I asked a local to recommend a good, non-chain pizzeria, and they immediately said "Tuscan Wolf!" And who am I to doubt an expert? The vibe inside is very bright and open on the ground floor. The second floor has larger tables, and a bit more dark and refined. But the downstairs shouts "Family!", and there were a couple there while eating. It's lonely eating solo sometimes, but on the other hand, you can usually get a bar seat when the place is packed, which is what I did. Service was quick and cheerful. They have an extensive menu of Italian dishes, but I wanted pizza, so I ordered their red sauce choice called "Parmigiana". (When do I never want pizza? That's a good question!) The pizza came in good time, and was the perfect size for someone like me. Two normal people could also probably share it. I shed a little teat when it came, because it was uncut, with a steak knife and fork for me to do the honors. Not a tear from the pizza, but from good memories of Mangia E Bevi, whete they served pizza the same way...sob. The pizza came with lots of parmesan cheese added either after or late in the baking process, so it wasn't gross and burnt. Also thin sliced eggplant, with that goopy yet chewy texture I like in my eggplant on pizzas. The sauce was savory with a hint of tomato sweetness, and the crust was chewy and a bit darkly blistered but not burnt. Wonderful! I've been here several times and wanted to write a review for a while now. I had actually written a comment that their service needed some speed in the past but I'd like to add so much more to that. This Pizzeria is very good in what it does which is host and serve some incredibly tasty Pizza. The owner and Chef went to Tuscany to learn at their Pizza school, and graciously came back to Durham region to share his talents by curating an extensive menu of 100+ choices. As previously mentioned I had said their service was slow but the service when I went last was quick, attentive and very friendly and knowledgeable. The pizza does take some time from ordering to table but that is because it's made and crafted by hand and it shows. Utterly delicious, generous size and fresh ingredients make the entire morsel such bliss from a full to empty plate. Rhe owner needs to learn the customer is always right. His response was horribly arrogant on my trustpilot review. He suggested I could have had it remade rather than complain. Kinda hard to do with takeout and I would never eat anything from here again. I also have a business and I would never speak to a customer like this. This is the best pizzeria in Durham region! It is not your fast food (takeout or delivery) type of place because these pizzas need to be enjoyed fresh from the oven. Service is really good not only because the front of the house is friendly and attentive but also because the owner- chef comes out to talk to the customers to make sure everything is good. The atmosphere has a nice modern pizzeria feel to it with touches of Italian decor. The thin crust pizza are fantastic with many options in the menu (too many!) and they still allow you to add or remove toppings as you see fit. The crust is crispy which is different but offers a good foundation to keep the pizza from collapsing. I love a chewy Neapolitan pizza but the crust doesn't hold up so this Tuscan style crust makes leftovers so much better. And you will have leftovers because the pizzas are so large. Other than pizzas they have some pasta dishes but if you are a large group start with one of the cheese plates. For the price you get a huge selection of cheeses and some great cured meats, amazing value. Overall you pay a premium versus other pizza joints but this is not fast food pizza - this is pizza made with love. read more

I started off with the Italian salad which was rather large and probably could be a meal in itself. Strike probably in the last sentence. Pizza I had the Impero Pizza which was Mozzarella cheese, truffle paste, white truffle oil, prosciutto cotto, ricotta, mascarpone, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Oh my God it was delicious. I did ask the waitress which pizza I should have if I've never been there before and likely may never be there again and this is the one she suggested. She also suggested a tomato-based pizza but I decided to go for this white one. Although I didn't have it the person I was with had a Covaccino and absolutely loved it. We were told that we would have to wait up to 30 minutes for a table to become available even though there were 3 empty tables which seated 4 people. We were told that a table was available upstairs but we could only have it for one hour as it was reserved. While waiting at the bar, we were not asked if we would like to have a drink. I am so glad I came here a few months back, the pizza was delicious, and being Italian my family loved the specialty pops that they offer which we hadn't seen in years. Really authentic food and atmosphere as the kitchen is partly open to the dining room. The salads are delicious as well and I've only heard great things about the pasta dishes. MUST try the crepes, they are delicious! I recommend sharing if you can't quite eat a whole one after your meal but definitely try one of their many! I've since been about 4 more times and the food never disappoints. The 4 stars here is just because the staff is occasionally slow (it is a busy place during peak times) and although most are very friendly, some wait staff can give off an attitude. Wow, Tuscan Wolf serves up some great pizza! They have a dazzling selection of pizzas and toppings, and some original pizza styles. They are located in the charming Old Whitby Village neighborhood, with ample street parking in front, on side streets and there are even parking lots very close by. We ordered four pizzas, bruschetta, a pane cotta, and tiramisu. The pizzas all featured dazzling, thin crust, with toppings that were in amazing balance with the crust, for an overall eating experience. Now, I'm not normally a thin-crust person, preferring thick, sicilian-style crusts. However, these were so elegant and perfect! My son's Pizza Margherita was so good that he devoured it quickly. My daughter was pleased that her Pizza Torontina (Tomato, cheese and pepperoni) did not skimp on the pepperoni. My Tuscan Wolf Pizza - yes, I went with the eponymous, signature pizza because it was our first time, so why not. It was really interesting, sort of like a combination of a calzone and a pizza. Mild interior of flavorful, ricotta-like cheese, encased in a double crust of that thin, light dough. We also got an Olimpe, a chef's creation which, in our case, was half calzone and half gorgonzola pizza. The bruschetta was exactly on point, and properly packaged for take-out (tomato/garlic topping packaged separately, to be applied at home). The desserts look wonderful, but we are all too full to eat them! Well, tiramisu for breakfast ... life could be worse, for sure! I will certainly return, next time I feel like splurging. The Tuscan Wolf is not cheap eats, but worth saving up for: a classic case of getting the quality that you pay for. I've never been to Italy, but have researched the pizza styles quite extensively. Next time, I will ask for a "bold bake", as I am one of those people who thinks that a bit of charring on the crust adds a crispy smokiness. I may be an outlier! Marco came to Canada 5 years ago from Tuscany and imports Italian ingredients to offer the same Italian pizza experience in Durham; what a treat! We were offered the most amazing hospitality from Marco and his wait staff. The menu was thoroughly explained and we were even given a tour of the restaurant. The menu is massive, but you really can't go wrong with any choice. My boyfriend and I shared the Modena pizza with mushrooms and prosciutto. Delicious! We loved it here. For a thin crust pizza it was remarkably stable, I appreciated that you could pick up the slice and not lose the toppings. This restaurant is in the perfect location, has great open hours compared to other restaurants in the area, and makes great food! The owner Marco is authentically Italian like his pizzas. Then we had 1 calzone with Gorgonzola, ricotta, and mozzarella and a prosciutto and mushroom pizza and an olimpo which is a combination calzone and pizza! They were so good with a light crisp crust. They looked so good we couldn't wait to eat them which we should have because they were scorching hot! But so delicious and the price was so good between 14-16 per. After hearing good things about this place from my neighbourhood Facebook page, I had to give this place a try. Based on reviews, this place has authentic Italian pizza. I love pizza. So finding out a new pizzeria had opened up made my mouth water. I always like to support local businesses and hope they do well. This place was good, but not what i expected. Decor 5/5 This place is nicely situated in downtown Whitby, I like the overall look of the place and the outdoor tables are a nice touch. They also have a big second level, great for parties or larger groups. Service 2/5 The girl who served us was great. She explained the menu and options available but didn't discuss beverage options e.g beer and wines ( I later overheard another owner/server explaining to another couple about Italian beers, Italian wines and a really in-depth explanation of the menu. Would have been nice to hear that. Also we had to wait 30mins for our food, the wait was too long, the table next to us who came after us got their food before us..not cool. Food 3/5 We ordered the calzone/pizza combo and the Paulino pizza which had arugula, chicken, feta cheese, peppers. Did you know pizza certification exists? Neither did I. Marco, the owner, has several. He proudly displays them on the wall all over his beautiful new restaurant. My daughter and I decided to check this place out because of the perfect rating. We were almost disappointed. When we arrived Marco was outside closing up the restaurant. He invited us in and told us to dine in even though it was past his business hours. He took the time to explain all the authentic dishes. We had a Greek salad and two pasta dishes. The food at Tuscan Wolf is exceptional. Every single pizza we ordered, was delicious. The Caesar Salad was fresh and clearly every bit of it was homemade. If I am reviewing based on food alone, I would have given 6/5 stars, it is that good The service is very lacking. Table was half set, servers on multiple occasions left dirty plates and empty bottles/cans on table and ignored our request to remove them. When we asked about a pizza cutter (which they are phasing out we were told because they want to be more authentic - which I am cool with), our request was heard and ignored. Every single one of our neighbours was given a pizza cutter except us. They gave us 2 side plates for 5 people and half cutlery....don't think that is authentic Italian serving. No oils or chilli flakes provided to our table, but others got them. Every time we asked for something, it felt as if we were inconveniencing them by being there. It wasn't a case of a bad server as we had multiple people helping. This is the second such experience at Tuscan Wolf and we gave it a second try for redemption.
