I was told to give those guys a try, but after signing up, there was a section requiring you to come into their office to take a picture for verification and yes they will charge you a fee of $45 to have your photo taken. While I could just provide them on their website and have them verify it that way without paying any, I felt very obligated because my friend who recommended me to sign with them said it was not necessary to pay and he still booking stuffs on Virgo. Since I started with Virgo in September of 2022, I had received one booking from them for a Best Buy commercial and it was non union which I could not accept because I'm already SAG AFTRA, I still go on their website every week to put in my availability but I don't think I would get any work from them unless one paid that headshot fee and two work non union. read more

i paid $45 for a really bad photo taken on an iphone in only 2 takes. in 2 years i have only been booked once for background work at a minimum rate. i heard they always book the same group of people but dont care about the others, seems like they are just making money off of registration photos. very dissapointed . read more

Allot of money spent for too little work! I've received a few jobs from this company, not enough to support giving them sign on fees every year! It seems that they are collecting allot of money from too many people, not having the jobs to support them with an adequate amount of work! They charge 15% of your gross income on top of getting a percentage from production. Greedy. As with any of these places they have thousands of actors in their roster. That being said you will get some work here and there. All of it non union. Before you even get paid. Greedy. They also do a registration in a shady part of town 2 or 3 times a year where they charge $45 for new people and $10 for people that have registered before. read more

A COMPLETE SCAM. Paying to work is illegal and no, this is not a real talent agency. VT booked me on a job. I set the day aside without booking other work. Suddenly they cancelled me for the job for no disclosured reason. I made new plans for that day. The night before the cancelled job, VT texts me again and asks if I'm available for the same job. They booked me, cancel me, then tried to book me again. I don't like to play games so I texted them back "What's the deal?". Suddenly I get a text; "You're Fired!". I get fired for asking a simple question? This is how VT treats their clients who pay them? I "owed" them money from past jobs, so after I was "fired" I just went onto my profile and changed by Card information. No money for you VT. Go F* yourself Virgo Talent. Learn how to treat your clients (who pay you) with respect and not like disposable trash. read more

Went in for a photo update, even after not getting any work from them in over a year. I was a little disappointed that the lady who took my money forgot to make my change for the $10 I paid with a $20 bill. I emailed them and they said they would credit my account the $10, so that was nice. I worked a lot with them many years ago when their roster was much smaller. Now they have tons of people registered and you're supposed to login to your account to "be at the top of the call list" -- which actually isn't a bad idea, and rewards those who stay active. Little bit of a chore to log in all the time to do this, but if you want it bad enough, that's what you do. In the last year, however, I got zero emails, calls, or requests to work. Maybe because I wasn't logging in at all. I decided to give them one last chance with my photo update yesterday. If I don't get any jobs this year, I'll probably not re-register again. When I did work with them in the past, I was treated quite professionally, so that's great. They do have a rather spiffy app, as well as a developed website. And they let you upload lots of additional photos, no charge. This can be a very risky industry for aspiring actors. If you have tried Virgo and are lacking regular work, I suggest going to Central Casting and Extras Management on Flower Street in Burbank. Please write my name "Adam Wagener" as your referral on your application at Extras Management -- I do highly recommend them and they get me lots of work, mostly non-commercial. read more

This is long winded so heres a too long didn't read. TL;DR: Virgo Talent is awesome. Boo haters. Got upgraded to SAG ocp on their set. Made an entire years worth of pay in a day. I'll get to my story in a second (it's after the asterisks). Welcome to Los Angeles, a place that is filled with seedy scam agencies that take your money and run. Virgo is not among them. Similar talent agencies which I would love to name in direct messages are abysmal. They take not only 10% off what they book you for but WHAT YOU TAKE HOME. This is highly illegal as a company that provides this service should NEVER be allowed to access what you actually made on set through payroll. That is your information and yours alone. If you are booked on a job with Virgo at 200/10 hours, virgo takes ONLY 20$...that 200$ paycheck is often a ton more with milage/meal penalties/overtime ect. I don't have to call in. Ever. I just spend 30 seconds logging in and pressing a button that I am available to work. Just log in every day...it's that easy. I don't have to sit through hours of voice messages on some call box. I know that real people are on the other end working to get me booked instead of seeing my name as a number in some cattle call pool. You are meant to show up and be professional. You are booked on your look - so remember that. It's NOT Virgo's fault that they haven't actually gotten you a booking. You may not have a look that the casting wants at the time but rest assured your time will come. You may also not be logging in and changing your availability. For those of you who have only been with Virgo a few months and are complaining that they take your 40$ just remember ITS 40 BUCKS! In the long run the money you make with Virgo is exponentially larger. It's a one time fee. You book one job, boom that fee is paid for. Also virgo will still book you (albeit much less) if you register FOR FREE without their verified photo. This is pretty much a no lose situation. ********************************************************************************************************************** Here is my story with Virgo and why I will recommend them to EVERY SINGLE person I know that wants to break into acting and even those who are just looking for other employment on their off days. I have been with Virgo Talent since November of last year. In a few months, I booked 2 gigs that paid upwards of 200$. I then got verified and handed them 40$. Actual bookings were fewer than my availables (makes sense as I look like a bearded mad-man) but I did what I was supposed to and logged in every day. The photo they took of me was terrible as I am hyper critical, but in truth I drank heavily the night before so my skin also looked like crap - that's my fault. Just think of how many people they have to photograph in that one day as well. Just because your picture sucks in your opinion doesn't mean casting directors will think so. It's just to make sure you look like X at the time of your booking. So fast forward one month to January. I took a booking in san diego with a fitting in los angeles and showed up to set an hour before my call time. It was a long drive, so why not? We shot over two days and it was one of the best shoots I have ever been on (still with a boxed lunch though!). I was living a fantasy in period clothing on a gigantic boat in the ocean. Screaming, yelling, and just general hooliganism was asked for by the director. The next day I got to fire black powder rifles and battle red coats as giant pyrotechnics went off around me (warning, it smells like crap because it's manure). Total money taken by Virgo? 54$...thats it. 10% of my booked rate. When I got my check I was absolutely thrilled. 50 cents per mile to and from San Diego...a boatload of overtime and meal penalties...I made almost 3 times what I was booked on and had the time of my life. Then... I saw the commercial. I had not only made the final cut, but I was in a shot that ultimately got me upgraded to SAG as an on camera principle. I was shown for one second. One measly second. That 250/10 booking from Virgo turned into a 5 figure pay day after I filed an inquiry claim with SAG because I had met all the prerequisites for an upgrade. I have gotten nothing but "Great Jobs" from Virgo. No one has ever contacted me with anything other than congratulations. Even my commercial agent has tried to get a piece of this pie (and failed), but not Virgo Talent. I'm still with them as I haven't bought into SAG yet because I'm waiting for a legitimate part or production as I am SAG-E until I pay the induction fee. Also I have been rather lax with self promotion and my voice/demo reels, but again that's my problem. Okay, I'm done. Soapbox over. Hell yes, long live Virgo Talent. And if you have long hair, a beard, and are better looking than me....please don't join virgo talent. They are terrible, yada yada, beware, I hate you, go shave and join Virgo talent. read more

I went to the registration, got verified, paid the $40. Their "photographer" took a horrible washed out photo, which they are known to do here at Virgo. I have been logging into the site daily, updating my calendar, and yet, have booked zero jobs with them. Yes, some of the jobs they offer do pay more. However, it is apparent they simply do not have enough jobs for all their registered members. They seem to take anyone and everyone who wants to pay $40. My experience, i spend an awful lot of time logging in to their website daily and updating my calendar. But if you don't log in daily, they tell you your lousy washed out picture will be all the way down at the bottom, never to be seen. I really wish I could say a few words about the working experience. If I book one job through Virgo this year, I will consider it a Christmas miracle. Virgo will most likely not be your primary source of income, but the commercials they've booked me on have been a nice supplement, since they pay more than the TV gigs. I work a Virgo project a few times a month, and booking with them is fairly simple and straightforward. While registration was very crowded, they moved everyone through quickly and efficiently. My only problem is that most of the productions do not give much information about the job, so you never really know what you are in for until you are already booked. I recently worked a commercial that ended up being a night call, but we weren't told ahead of time. Too bad for the people with 6 a.m. call times the next day. read more

These guys start very slowly, from when you pay the $40 photo fee to when they ask avail of you it'll be at least a month and maybe two before you actually get booked. They really need to do a better job with the pictures, they're raking in a lot of cash money for them and most of the time they are of such low quality and make you look terrible. The only way to see the picture is to login or the phone app and no way to be able to pick the ones they use. You'll need to login fairly regularly as that's how I think they prioritize people apart from the usual friends/family/themselves and people they "like" (cough,cough) . The requirement of a credit card on file is a pretty big red flag, they bill you for each job before you do the job, this is fine UNLESS you have trouble getting paid from the commercial which is almost guaranteed. Commercials are done by the shadiest people in the above ground entertainment business. If you have trouble getting paid they don't help at all and they keep the fee they charged you up front, ridiculous. They are rude and unprofessional when you challenge the fee. They have nothing to do with payroll I understand but THEIR billing practices need to be much more honest. What about simply sending an invoice for services instead of billing you before the job? Who's going to not pay if they want more work and stay registered? They DO GET PAID no matter what IN CASH for pictures, which Central had to discontinue long ago when the LA City Attorney found out about it. What makes these guys different? Shady. read more

Unprofessional at best. After going through the process of filling out their online profile form and uploading my pics I waited and waited and waited for even one little nugget and nothing, ever. In total I was on their website for about 3 months. Surely in those 3 months I would have rec'd notice of at least one submission. Nope. Sadly nothing. I contacted them via email expressing my frustrations only to have John Jantzen (I'm assuming the owner) delete my profile. I'm in disbelief that he would unilaterally decide to delete my profile because I had expressed my frustrations. For clarity I was "unverified" as I had just missed the $40 photo session when I signed up 3 months earlier and was eagerly awaiting the next one (they hold these $40 photo sessions once every 3 to 5 months). According to John "Verified talent are always considered before unverified talent. Our search engine is programmed to displays talent in that order to the casting companies that hire from our database." If "unverified" talent is made available to casting companies then why was this posted on FB just days ago (12/5/14)? This posting seems to indicate the current system is not working. RUSH CALL: Looking for someone who can rush to set NOW (posting this at Friday at 10:15am) who fit the specs and can get to Northridge asap. Must be in the Virgo database. $125/10 NON UNION - Talent that appears to be an attractive Caucasian woman in her 50's. After reading all these negative comments it seems to me he leaves himself wide open for someone to come along and do a better job at this then him. It might just be me. :) read more

I am a Long Time Trained Professorial Actor. 20 years UNION I have been with Virgo Talent for over 3+ years. I have the My Virgo Talent Web Page account loaded with different Photos in my Police uniformed and differences looks and my availability. I try to update my Monthly calender. I have call and email them for work. I have only revived 1 call from Virgo Talent and it was John calling for a commercial to work 2 days later. I was on the 1st day of a 4 day job and was told it was for a higher rate and I should dump that job that I was on. I tried to work around my 4 day call to comply with their needs. I was book on a show and I don't Blow off the job I was on (it was CM)Booked Jobs at any rate. It is very unprofessional. Long story short. I have been to Photo update 3 times and I have never been booked by then . I feel that they are happy with my photo money and not booking me(The photo their photographer has Taken are WORST EVER) Now My Friends have had different experiences. Now of course I look to be Mexican so that might have mad a differences. At less it has been for me. I know that other people have work fro them.Most have had similar results. I have paid in about $70 to them with no work. I wish it was different. ACTORS remember No Companies is going to throw you a bunch of work Because they like you. They only want to make money. If you fit what they want you work. If you don't you won't work BUT a situation that for 3 Years No work is fishy. I have had work Form some of the other casting people Bill, Rich Sandi so I know I fit many Categories. Their are some Great People in this industry that call me up and give me work. Friendly and attentive staff. Laif and John have written pleasant emails to me in response to questions or feedback I have sent them. Always polite and professional. They don't call as often as I'd like, but when they do, it's usually with a nice job that I am happy to book. What's great about them is the way payment is handled. No monthly fees. You simply pay a commission, as you would for your agent. It makes perfect sense, and it guarantees that you are not paying for a service which is not doing anything for you. If you don't work, you pay nothing. Most jobs pay better than what you might book for yourself at Central, since Virgo books you on commercials, which pay a higher rate than background on film or tv. The photo they take is crucial. The first one seemed to work for me. The one I have now is not getting me as many gigs. As soon as they announce the next registration day, I will be there with a better look. I'm very happy I did the research and decided to join Virgo. read more

One thing I couldn't stand was the profile picture taken at registration lol they make you look oily , it seems too photoshopped. Virgo has an online system which makes it much simpler to submit and get booked for projects. They help you connect with many of the top commercial directors and some of the smaller ones too. They also get a few jobs for TV and film as well. You may not get booked every day, but keep logging in and you will eventually. If you get booked have a good attitude on set. It helps! read more

Usually a booking &/ calling service makes you call an talk to a self entitled and grouchy underling, whereas here you can just put your availability to a calendar online. You also have the control over your own profile and photos that you can add and delete at whim. (LA Casting should take the hint...) Orchestrating the finer details once you get booked will ALWAYS be hit & miss, but don't discount the opportunity. If the opportunity isn't good enough (i.e., miles, location, availability) trust me there are many other services that will put you through the ringer for a whole lot less. read more

I love Virgo Talent~ I have been lucky enough to book some great gigs with them~ some larger calls and some very small ones which are always nice, including one where I was the only BG!! Having only been with them not even a year, I have worked somewhat steadily, but always conveniently, when there is a lull or a gap in work from my calling service... it works out perfectly! I have had no major issues with them. The first month I joined, after my photo was finally approved and verified, I was submitted to about 10 jobs, but was only booked for 3. Now second month in, Virgo has only submitted me for one job, which I didn't end up booking. I realize that Virgo is NOT the one booking ultimately, so I can't hate on them for that. It is a bit disappointing that they've already stopped submitting me for things, though. I guess they figure since I wasn't booking all the stuff they first submitted me for, I'm not worth paying attention to anymore? Not sure. I am definitely not going to rely on them for regular jobs, but I'm hoping to get one here and there. I don't think the photo they took of me is a very flattering one and doesn't represent what I look like in real life, but they're the pros here so I'll go with it. I do like that there are no monthly fees. They only take out a fair amount of what you're earning on the job. One major thing that I wish they would do, would be to notify actors when a job has been finished being booked. It can be a bit frustrating submitting for something and having no idea when the selections have or will be made. Would be nice if they would update or send out notification emails, so you would know that it's ok to submit to other jobs if you've not been booked. The website is very easy and convenient to use. The few jobs I have gotten through them have paid very well and have been overall good experiences. read more

Here is an update on what happened today from Virgo. Not only did I not get a call time for a commercial they booked me on late minute, I called in for my night call and they told me that the details were sent to my email which was false. When I accepted the job the address and wardrobe was available, but not my call time. When I called he said I should have called sooner, but isn't it your responsibility to make sure I have my details so that I don't have to call. In the email he said my call time was on it mentioned being professional but I don't see that on their end. The email included everything but the Call time and so did the app that I downloaded for there company. If they charge me, I'm going to have to call them again and fight this. I can't believe the completely avoidable problem which has caused me to update. read more

I drove out all the way to the valley to take their photo, paying the $40 fee. Filled out the paperwork and clearly stated that I was a Union member. However I was only offered two jobs in over a year, and both of them were non-union! Even after the first time when I clearly told them that I was Union and couldn't work NU jobs. Next time I heard from them was for photo updates--to pay a fee again. It makes me wonder if that's where they are making their money. Not worth it at all. read more

I really love Virgo and their fun approach to booking their talent. I've been signed up for awhile and haven't gotten many gigs, but the commercials I have done have been a blast. Online registration is free and you get to upload your own photo. Make sure this is a good picture, otherwise it will get overlooked. When you get booked on a gig, you'll get a text message with some general information (commercial, rate, etc.) and asking for your availability. If you text back saying you're available, they'll book you. If you're not booked right away, you'll get an email with the information Virgo has about the gig at the moment, and you can submit your booking then. You'll get a confirmation email saying you're booked, and either an email with all the information (address, where to go, what to do, etc.) or you'll be advised to call the casting director to find out more information from them directly. On the gigs I've done, I've had no problem following the information provided by Virgo. On my first job I had a mishap and got lost (I was new to LA and background work at the time) and didn't know what to do, but thanks to Virgo's professional team I only got charged $10 for canceling due to my situation instead of the $40. Unfortunately the next registration date is rumored to be in March/April, which sucks because I have yet to register in person, but when you hear about the registration, please jump on it, especially if you don't have a professional headshot. Virgo has been a great resource to me as a working actor here in LA. They make booking EASY, by providing an easy to use intuitive app that makes booking work a clear and simple process. They put the amount you want to work in YOUR hands by letting you choose your availability. They give you notices of available work and it's up to you to decide if it fits your schedule.
