I have had the most positive experience with Shauna. She is attentive, friendly, understanding and during the whole process I've felt that she was "on my side" and I felt comfortable asking for her advice. We had a short first phone interview and then she brought me in their office on Wilshire. She spent about half an hour talking to me in a manner that didn't feel like interview, but more like a friendly chat. At the same time, I could feel that she was actually getting all necessary information from me. Later on she always took time to give me call and follow up after different stages of my interviewing process with the company. I called First Call Staffing Service and spoke to a lady named Marcia. She was lovely. She was cheerful and listened to me. She told me to email my resume and she would look at it as soon as she could. Marcia also said that she or someone from her office would get back to me. The next morning I received a call from Candace from First Call Staffing. We spoke for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the kind of position or work that I am looking for is not something that First Call specializes in. Candace discussed other possibilities, ideas and places that I might consider contacting. Candace did not have to spend extra time talking to me on the phone. But clearly, she was trying to help. Candace's actions and kindness are quite rare in today's market place. I feel that the staff at First Call is first class. They are friendly, diligent and they try to help. Review for Santa Monica Office: First Call Staffing is seriously the most personable when it comes to staffing agencies. I applied to a position through Marcia and have been working with Candice. She's as nice as it gets. Other staffing agencies make me a feel like I'm one of the many they have to deal with and can't be bothered to return calls or emails. Not F.C.S. Since the beginning Candice has been available to call or email to describe the position and its requirements. I went in to meet Candice, filled out paperwork and had a lovely chat with her about a specific position. It wasn't like an interview, was super casual and relaxed (she called it a "dressed up conversation"). I have worked as a temp in the Santa Monica office, and I can say that working with Candice and Shauna is outstanding: 1) They are friendly, courteous, informative, helpful, and positive. 2) They are sincerely interested in the experiences the temp worker is having at the assignment, and do their best to make the assignment as comfortable as possible. 3) They make intelligent decisions to ensure that they're providing the best possible match between the needs of the client vs. the skills & interests & personality of the temp worker. 4) The flexibility of the temp work they're able to generate is great (as long as it's available, of course). 5) The temp-work leads they're able to generate are often "temp-to-hire", meaning there can be inroads to permanent employment with desirable companies. 6) They have a thorough vetting process, including having the temp-worker take a few skills tests and sit down for an interview. While some Yelpers on the temp-worker side of this situation seem to have been unhappy with that process, the process itself gave me confidence that these reps of FirstCall are trying to identify skills and talents, so as to enable the best possible fit between temp-worker and client assignment. I made arrangements to have a person assist us for today and just got a call saying "sorry he will not show up" The excuse is that the insurance would not approve that kind of a job. All I can say is learn your business before you offer a service and then leave customers hanging. Had an interview with them this week and I was embarrassed to even be in the office. It was a mess. There were people coming in and out of the office and was forced to fill out a booklet of applications and take a test that took about 2 1/2 hours total. Now I consider myself a pretty competent person but apparently I had made an error that the entire office had to hear about. If that wasn't enough my account manager was completely snotty and rude and made accusations that she could find me placement with the undertone that she wouldn't. I was polite and professional throughout all this. I'm not done. I had another interview with another placement/temp agency and had to have some files transferred from their office to the new agency and Candice, the rep I spoke to on the phone replied with a "Ok I can send you the files but we're really busy here today..." and quickly hang up the phone on me. Sorry to have to make you work today lady... It gets better! While I was being "interviewed" (interrogated would be a better word) I overheard a phone call between an applicant and an agent and how they had not shown up for their first day. Probably because it was a joke! They can't even get their own applicants to show up on the job. If that wasn't an omen I don't know what is. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! This agency got me work more quickly than other ones have, but it is operating in a time warp. They don't have direct deposit (although they assure me they will, soon), and everyone who works there wants to be called, not emailed. For someone already struggling to afford a cell phone, this is really inconvenient. Also, they close at 5 PM every day-- even the day that they issue checks. Every temp agency I worked for on the East Coast stayed open until 5:30 on Friday so that people scheduled to work until 5 could still pick up their checks. I have no idea why they don't do this, especially since they don't offer direct deposit. read more

I've come to First Call for help twice and each time they have delivered on their abilities to find me assignments and quickly. My first time was in 2011 and Nikki helped find an assignment within a week of signing up. Most recently Marcia and Ivy have been so accommodating and I couldn't be more grateful for their support. I've already had assignments that were well within my skills and have helped me get through a dry period of work especially around the holidays. I've applied with another staffing company but have yet to hear anything from them. I highly recommend First Call especially if you have an administrative/office type background and need work. Going to First Call Staffing was a complete waste of time! I had to do a literacy, math and typing test which took over an hour of my time to complete. While I was taking those test Marcia and Candace were gossiping about how bad clients looked when they showed up for interviews. I was sitting there with my mouth wide open because I couldn't believe that they would say that especially while a potential client was in the office! When I finished my test I was interviewed by Marcia and she went over the policies of the company with me, gave me time cards and other documents. After the interview she told me that she would call me and if I don't hear back from her in a week to call her. A week came and went, I called and she said she would call when something comes up and of course she never did not even to follow up with me or anything. I don't know if they didn't call because they weren't interested but my main concern is with how UNPROFESSIONAL they were. First Call is so unreliable and there is a complete disregard for people and their time. Bad reviews out weigh the good by far so with that being said, First Call Staffing doesn't want to help you find employment so don't waste your time with them. read more

Worst experience with a staffing agency ever. They offered me two, one day jobs in the span of one month. When I called back to confirm, they had already filled them. No long term assignments offered. I felt like I was being talked down to because I don't have an accounting degree, yet I started my own business when I was 13 and ran it for 39 years doing trade shows until the market crashed. It was good enough to put me through three colleges earning an MFA and buy two cars. Avoid. read more

I had an appointment this morning that I called in advance for. They said they did not have me on their books. I said, 'Well, I will show up anyway thank you very much.' The woman who booked the appointment for me was trying to race out the door as I walked in. The receptionist just gave me deer-in-the-headlight eyes and the other staffer just didn't know what to do. Totally unprofessional. They should have seen me anyway or at least could have been accommodating. Don't bother. read more

Candace at First Call in Santa Monica is literally the best. She gets all of us work, she friendly, forgiving...the best! She hires us veterans and others and working in Santa Monica is dream but mostly Candace makes the experience the best. The problem is sp+ parking staff. It's not the staff...their mostly cool. It's these supervisors they hire ( mostly Hispanic women) who go around to make sure everyone is at their spots, I guess..(I mostly see them on their phones) and relieves for breaks. First... their new, second..some have bad English, third..their rude and bossy..how can you scold me for taking three extra minutes on a break if your talking on your phone..bad example. The City should be hiring more diversity there after all, it is a city organization. They're are no whites and blacks in supervisor positions( people we can relate to) and the military veterans working the lots are being lectured, like children, from a Mexican woman who just started and barely speak English without an accent. They just need to be forced by the City...to hire MORE Americans in supervisor position..after all...we are Americans aren't we??? read more

Honestly, a true waste of time. After registering and testing, I was interviewed by the owner of the company. We were reviewing my background, which is in the Entertainment industry, and even though she said she was familiar with the industry she was not familiar with how comfortable it can be with dress code. She referenced how some employees were not required to have professional dress, which in some divisions of the industry it is not required but she seemed not so thrilled by it. Obviously she was clueless of the relaxed creative atmosphere and the importance of what a person can offer a company to get the job done. I went seeking, from this staffing service, administrative work but after the interview I was truly turned off!!!
