She explains things clearly, and answers questions willingly, and I understand more about my eyes and their quirks than ever before! Long version: The office staff is all friendly and helpful--when I call or walk in, even if it's been a year, they remember me, which is an amazing feeling! I was immediately comfortable with Dr. Boyd, who's also great with little ones, by the way (baby and toddler). She doesn't use scare tactics (for example, when I confessed to not changing out my contacts as often as I should), but takes the time to explain why things are important. She answers questions clearly--both without dumbing things down, and without using too much industry jargon that most people wouldn't understand. Noticing some risk factors in my eyes, Dr. Boyd has helped set me up to take the best care of my eyes that I can for years to come. I also really appreciate the updated exam methods and equipment. Dr. Boyd's office uses retinal imaging to take pictures of the back of the eye (which apart from just being really cool to see the blood vessels on your eye!), means that dilation drops aren't needed. As someone whose eyes are already relatively light-sensitive, I'm glad not to deal with dilated pupils for hours after an appointment. The selection of glasses frames is one of the best in the area, and the staff does an awesome job of helping choose frames that look good and fit well, instead of just trying to sell the more expensive frames. UPDATE: After seeing Dr. Boyd for a few years, I just called the office to order more contacts, and found that she had the order ready to go, and just waiting for me to ask. She and her staff really are the best. Can I give more than 5 stars??

I then decided to contact Wing J Gerald, OD to see if they have any openings. They answered my questions and managed to fit me in that same day of initial contact. They were quite busy when I arrived, which is a good sign. After a brief wait, Dr. Hsu had seen the foreign object in my eye. What I thought was quite serious, she handled with grace and ease. The optometrist is very polite and knowledgeable and i highly recommend her services, BUT the people she hired to manage everything else, are very rude and unprofessional. Often times I call and no one answers. When I had to reschedule a eye appointment, I called, and left a voicemail and didn't get a callback, and I know they have a no-show fee, so I called again and again, and nobody answered so I left a email and finally they answered the call and said they're going to charge me a no-show fee. In that case I told them I left a voicemail and I even provided proof that I had sent an email regarding my appointment that I can't make. they then told me that they will on their behalf, not charge me a no-show fee, like they are doing me a favor, do not recommend them at all anymore.

Extremely Disappointing experience, just save yourself the headache!…read more I have been going to this eye clinic for almost four years, and I can honestly say my biggest regret is not leaving sooner. It feels like they charge a fee for absolutely EVERYTHING. Even after insurance, I'm still expected to pay additional fees, including a yearly contact lens fitting fee on top of the regular eye exam fee. On top of that, I was charged $39 just for the doctor to fill out a DMV form, PLUS another $45 exam fee for that paperwork, all in addition to my regular medical exam fee. At what point does it become excessive? It's absolutely ridiculous how quickly the charges add up, even for established patients who have been coming here for years. And the customer service? Just as disappointing. The front desk staff have come across as extremely unprofessional. There have been multiple occasions where they put patients on hold, giggle and laugh with each other, and then pick the phone back up as if nothing happened. From the patient's perspective, it comes across as though they are laughing at the people calling for help. Whether that is their intention or not, it is incredibly off-putting and makes you question how seriously they take their patients. Between the endless additional fees and the unprofessional behavior at the front desk, this has been an all-around awful experience. Patients deserve transparency about costs, basic courtesy, and staff who make them feel respected, not like an inconvenience. My only regret is that I continued going here for so long. Four years of loyalty, only to walk away feeling this disappointed. Please do yourself a favor and explore other options before committing to this clinic. There are other places where you can spend your hard-earned money and expect to be treated with professionalism and respect. I wish I had made the switch years ago.

Dr. Dawn Viramontes is by far my favorite optometrist, and best one in town…read more I'm 28 and never in a million years thought that I could get Shingles. Of all places, I got it on my forehead, and eventually in my left eye. I saw my primary physician, and they officially diagnosed me with shingles, but couldn't treat my eye pain besides prescribing anti-viral medication. So, what do i do? I called several optometrists, and they were all booked. I called Dr. Viramontes's Office, and thank god, they were accepting new patients. after all this internal havoc, I can't describe how happy I was that I chose her. She was attentive, caring, and and well-informed on the issue. She prescribed several drops, and mentioned several techniques to reduce the pain. Not to mention, she was totally fine If I called/messaged her during off-hours. When the pain was unbearable, I messaged her during the weekend, and she suggested a few things that reduced the pain. such a great person! I can say that she really cares for her patients. She'll be my main optometrist from now on!

Driving while your eyes are dilated (especially down 99) is NOT a good idea. I received a rec from a very reliable source about Modesto Optometric Vision Center. I called and made an appointment to get my peepers checked. The office is quite posh inside. Comfy couches and chairs with a nice selection of mags while you wait for your name to be called. My appointment was with Dr. Ed Elliott. He has been an optometrist for many years so I felt that my eyes were going to get a thorough checkup. All of the staff that I encountered were very friendly and professional. My eyes were put through many tests (peripheral vision, acuity, photos, etc.). I appreciated the fact that Dr. Ed really took the time to explain my test results. Who knew that your eyes are more individual than fingerprints? Since my vision has changed a bit, a new prescription was written. Time for new glasses! The selection? Wonderful! I chose a new pair of kate spade (lower case of course) tortoiseshell specs (for distance) and a pair of Versace (not Ver-sayce, ahem Showgirls) sunglasses. I am eagerly awaiting a call to inform me when my glasses are ready for pickup!

You have to understand that my mom was EXIGENT about not getting a pair of glasses after her cataract surgery a few years back. She was so adamant, we had to pay extra for the fancy lenses to be put in her eyes at the time of the surgery. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when my parents called me after their appointment GUSHING about Dr. Garrett and how my mom had also gotten a pair of glasses ordered! Understand that I have been BEGGING her to get glasses for years after her surgery and, somehow, this young man was able to manage what I had thought to be impossible. They gushed about how thorough he was with them. They gushed about how, even though my parents are ESL, he somehow managed helping them understand the findings/recommendations of the visit w/o an interpreter (which is usually me). AND THEN.....he recommended some eye drops to my mom who shares Central Valley dry eye issues with me. So, I ended up with the same eye drops I have been using for the last few weeks and they have been AMAZING for me. So...my parents glasses arrive and a complimentary blue cleaning cloth also arrives...one side has grippies so that your fingers don't slip against the cloth as you clean your glasses! TRULY....thank you for addressing the smallest things. For those of you out there who knows how difficult it can be to manage a set of aging parents, this has been a true blessing.
