They will lower the price if you call them out on their shenanigans, though, so be diligent. Honestly, I only ever look through the recent arrival stuff when I stop in nowadays. But again, check the editions before buying because they will absolutely claim it's a rarer edition when it's certainly not.

From Garnick's, to RecordLane, to Bananas, and MIA Records. Ever since the coming of the digital age of downloading and file-sharing, these stores went the way of the dinosaur. RRR Records is one of the last few surviving indie record store in downtown and in the Greater Lowell area for the longest I can remember. I been going here for quite sometimes and I've never been disappointed. I discovered a lot of music here and unearthed a lot of rare grooves. The storefront is very easy to miss. Tucked between a beauty school and another business. Unlike other record stores, there are no colorful signs or wacky posters that adorn the storefront. It is actually tasteful and minimal which is easily overlooked as your driving by. Inside, it is one of the most neatly organized and cleanest record store I've ever been to. You won't get tripped up by boxes or crates over here. All the records are stacked on the wall shelves accordingly by genre, just like books in a library. They have a good selection of rock, jazz, and funk & soul records. Best thing about this place is you don't have to pay New York City or Boston price. Average record price is anywhere between $5-$15 dollars. Leave the plastic at home folks. In cash we trust. Only drawback about this place is you have to really get down on your knees or get a stand to get those hard to reach records. I'm used to standing and flipping through crates, boxes, and chest level shelves in which I find fast, easy, and efficient. Plan to spend some time here and get comfortable sifting through the records. I usually do when I'm there.

He used to sell used cassettes for like $2-5 depending on the artist. Got almost all of my metal cassettes here in high school. Nowadays it's used CD's for like $5-7 but still a bargain. I have to admit I don't go in here as much I used to, but every now and again if I'm downtown and see he's open I'll pop in and check it out. Still has all the eclectic stuff he's known worldwide for (noise music). He even has his own labels for that stuff. I mean, his main focus is not my bag, but I still try to support the business when I can. He's got tons of LP's, and all genres of music in there. Also a fair amount of CD's. If you get him talking, you'll find him to be friendly and knowledgeable, even about music he likely doesn't care for. All the other stores in the area are mostly gone now, but RRRecords is still chugging along, like a little slice of my coming of age...

I bring in an older mentally ill gentleman who loves music. He is odd and can be scary but is always treated with the utmost of respect (somehting that does not happen almost anywhere else where he is stared it, ignored or treated with the utmost of disrespect). He gave them a list of old music that he hoped to own and they found it all and more of similar genre. He loves to just go in and sit with them for hours chatting music. Just wonderful, kind people. And if you need electronic repairs they can do it, small or large.

Such a cool throwback music store…read more This small shop is located next to the County Kitchen that I'm a regular at and consistently going to just to get Matthew A off his Duke Ship here. The owner is named Jeff he's super laid back and a reminders me of a OH (original hipster- just made that up but as a gift to you I will let you use it-Your Welcome) not that new age hipsters that are taking over Brooklyn faster then that mice on a NYC subway station. This shop has all your favorite music that has inspired the vast majority if not all of the current music your hearing today. Jeff opened this store over 30 years ago and is a music genius himself. This shop is packed floor to ceiling with very cool Atracks, Vinyls, Tape Cassettes, CDs of all oldie but goodies. Music is a passion for some people and you can feel that this store is filled with not just music items but packed with Love. You can see that like this name of this shop music is in Jeff's DNA I'm not a music person. I love music but hated my grade school musical teacher so that were I being to dislike music. All books are from 2015 or later, no paradise for resellers looking for antiques, plus for used they're already marked up compared to other places I have been including library sales. The benefit is the wide selection. They also have DVDs and other media. Went to check this out as it is the largest used bookstore in the state but am unlikely to return due to the distance from home. If I lived in the area I would go back. My go to for books is the library but I was buying for two other people, one who lacks transportation and one who has mobility issues. They also buy books.

That said, I brought my wife's vintage but Cheap turntable here when it stopped working. They didn't judge me for my mediocre equipment or even try to sell me on something new. Instead they spent the better part of an hour troubleshooting, allowing me to watch their process, and ultimately landing on two problems. One simply required some calibration to resolve. The other issue was a dead stylus, which they had a replacement for and installed, for a reasonable price. There are a few premier ultra high end audio stores in the Northeast…read more Fidelis is an exceptional store- able to satisfy very high price equipment (5 digits) and able to satisfy any budgets for a beginner audiophile. The store never rushes you to buy- take your time to listen to really good gear. Get good advice on how to put a system together. Most of all- ask to listen to the super expensive stuff that you won't be able to buy- and figure out what good audio reproduction can be- then build your system to emulate that.

I'm a CD guy so I took note of the fact that most used CDs ran from $6 - $8, with a few out of print ones or imports going for $10+. Plenty of CD box sets to choose from as well. I didn't notice any other music mediums (cassettes, 8 tracks, etc) but perhaps they were hidden somewhere that I missed. As for the store itself, the place is outfitted floor to ceiling with music so while one might be waiting in line or looking for the next place to wander the eyes will inevitably find something music-based to look at. The two older men working there (one whose name was Paul, didn't catch the other) were very friendly and talkative. They actually quizzed each other from time to time about bands, songs, etc while I was there. It was a very friendly and inviting atmosphere. Certainly worth a stop!
