I can't even begin to describe how exceptional the food was. It's a small family-owned restaurant and you have to make a reservation well in advance, as they only have about 7-8 tables. We had superb house red wine, pappardelle with ragu, and the softest, most flavorful meatballs I've ever sunk my teeth into accompanied by light, fluffy mashed potatoes. Small place that only holds a few tables at a time. Food was great (so are so many other places near this place). Not sure what happened. Made a reservation via hotel concierge a month in advance. I get to the Osteria, the server says your reservation is at 2. I check the confirmation from the concierge, it says 1 pm. I tell the server I checked the reservation confirmation and its at 1. Server says that they don't take reservations online. I say the St Regis concierge made it. He says he doesn't take reservations from the St Regis? I asked if we could wait for a table to open up. He says that it's booked fully for the day. This was our favorite restaurant in Florence! We loved it so much we ate here twice in 4 days. The servers are fun, lively, and welcoming. The fried chicken and squash blossoms were amazing- not drenched in batter but so delicately flash fried and tasty we couldn't get enough! We also loved the osso bucco with the most delicious green peas. The duck papardelle was so good we polished off one order and immediately had to order another one. Amazing food in a cozy establishment. This was probably the best, authentic Italian restaurant I have eaten at yet in my month living in Florence. We arrived on a Tuesday night around 7:30pm with intentions to schedule a reservation. They originally told us that the next available spot wasn't until after Friday. As we were about to leave, one of the workers came up to us and silently told us to wait around 15 minutes. A group of four which had a reservation never showed up and we lucked out! Four of us were seated 15 minutes later right next to the station where the guy cuts the meat. It was great to watch and I loved the authentic decor to the place. There were very few tables in the restaurant but I feel this gave to the charm and ability for them to be more focused on each customer. This dinner was definitely not rushed and our meals took a decent amount of time to finally come out but we were in no rush. One of my friends started out with the bruschetta for 5 euros which she enjoyed, but it was very oily. You receive two generous pieces of bread with heaping mounds of tomato and basil goodness, about average in price and quantity. For my main dish, I took other yelper's suggestions and ordered the Pappardelle with Duck Ragu for 10 euros. It was quite good. I'm not a huge fan of meat sauce, so I was a bit skeptical of duck, but it was surprisingly good. The parmesan sprinkled in top was a perfect garnish. A friend and I split the .5 liter of house red wine for 6 euros and it nicely complimented our duck ragu. Another friend ordered the Lamb chops for 15 euros which was a bit fatty but had wonderful flavor. My last friend ordered the beef stew which was very tender and packed with flavor. Even the beans to the side were delicious. Once we were done eating our main dishes, we were still hungry so we ate bread and oil off our used plates. We figured we had to pay a 2 euro bread and cover charge anyhow so we ate all the bread. I don't know if that's a taboo to pour oil on used plates, but locals kept looking strangely at us as we ate it. We each ordered the Raspberry Tiramisu for 6 euros. So good! It was creamy and fresh. There was a perfect balance of fresh raspberries blended into the dish. There wasn't a significant amount of cake to the tiramisu, it was more cream, but it was still very delicious. I would come back for this. The workers were very friendly towards us and didn't rush us, mostly. After we were there for about 2 hours they gave us the check without even asking. Something almost unheard of in Italy. It didn't bother us though because it was a very small establishment and there were people waiting outside for their reservation. All of our meals were delicious. We even have intentions of making reservations to go back next week. The food, ambiance and service was great. We left without having any reservations and the prices weren't bad at all. Back home a pasta dish like that would be at least $15. I left paying 22 euros for plenty of wine, bread, a pasta dish and dessert, all of which were wonderful! Really bad service. We arrive for lunch, guy says 2 minutes. We sit right at the door, they seat 2 other parties before us. We hang out, they royally ignore us even though they see us still waiting. This was the highlight of of culinary voyage in Florence. From start to finish, the experience was spectacular. Service was on point and the waitstaff has awesome personalities. Lunch is the easiest time to get a table, but you still need to make a reservation a day or two in advance. If you want to go to dinner, you need to make your reservation at least a week ahead of time. Small crowded setting, the staff is the family that owns the restaurant and they have a great attitude! Service was ok a bit rushed and not friendly (however the work with tourists all day so I understand) but the kitchen was super fast and efficient. Their speed is almost like fast food to get customers in and out. Not the best to go on a busy time if you want to sit and enjoy a long meal with wine and conversation on a busy evening but a solid find. Had the beef with Parmesan and arugula and similar Antipasta. We booked the restaurant months in advance because we had a party of 8 people. The first thing you notice is that its lively and fun.. There is no need for conversation at the table because there is so much going on around you. I also recommend reserving a table for any size table. The potato ravioli with tomato cream sauce was my kids favorite pasta dish of the trip. I loved the Amaticiana pasta dish.. Well done. We were in Firenze for 4 nights and ate here twice which is rare for us since we try to mix things up when we travel. We walked in without a reservation (not recommended) and we got lucky and got a table. The food is authentic and clearly made with loving hands and care. The staff is friendly and we felt like we were having dinner in someone's home. So, what to try... Everything! We had Carbonara, Beef Stew in peppercorn sauce, duck pate, pappardelle with duck ragu, osso bucco, egg plant parmigiana...on and on. Everything was delicious. The artichoke salad i ordered was only ok but their pappardelle with duck meat was absolutely amazing- probably the best pasta I've had in Italy so far. For dessert I ordered their tiramisu but was served something else with raspberries. I double-checked and asked the waiter if it really was their tiramisu whereas i was told that it was. Not sure if they make their own version with completely different ingredients or if I actually received the wrong dish. Either way, the raspberry dessert was fabulous so I didn't complain, but it would have been nice if I had been informed that it wouldn't be a traditional tiramisu. Come here early to avoid waiting! I came here two minutes before they opened, which showed to be a smart move because only minutes after they had opened the place was packed. If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would. Getting into this place felt like getting into a secret club. Ok that was mostly my fault, as I showed up without reservations at 7pm on a Friday...but hey sometimes you get lucky, and after a short wait outside they had a table ready for us. Not complaining at all, it was somehow charming being squeezed into a place with so many locals who clearly know the guys running the show. Speaking of the guys running the show, they were incredibly nice to us, putting up with our questions about their handwritten menu (which I found charming). We started with a bottle of red (of course, this is Chianti after all), and some bread (insert rant about how bread in this city is bad, and how that is a contradiction as they do pasta so well...). Any who, I ordered the fried beef, and my girlfriend got thick noodle and duck pasta. she won, as she normally does, as the duck was out of this world good; not to say mine wasn't good, but that duck is the star of the show here. We were stuffed, and as such opted out of dessert and coffee, but that too looked awesome. Without question the best meals I have ever had in my life. At dinner, we made a reservation for lunch the following day (note: make reservations - this place can only serve about 16 people at a time and the locals are aware of how amazing the food is.) It's small space gives the atmosphere of an intimate dinner party with a group of strangers, hosted by the gregarious and charming waiter who will explain the menu to you. I don't know how many languages he speaks, but he was just as comfortable with us in English as he was speaking Japanese to the table next to us. And the food... It's worth noting that the menu is hand-written every day because the options change. Fear not - they can do no wrong. In our two seatings we tried 4 different desserts and 8 different dishes and could easily have stayed for more. In fact, that first night, we took a Capresse plate and a Prosciutto plate back to our hotel to enjoy with a bottle of Prosecco overlooking the city. Magical (and mozzarella so creamy and delicious I wanted to punch every Italian-American restaurant I'd ever been to in the face). And the prices are incredibly reasonable. The first time my husband and I came by, we were basically told that there was no way to make a reservation because they were full and that we wouldn't get a table. The waiter was really rude and we gave up. However, we happened to walk by again and was actually lucky enough to get a table for two in this super small place. Duck ragu with parpadelle was so flavorful and comforting. The ragu was tangy with tomato sauce but very well braised. Spinach gnocchi is the best thing I've ever had. It was soft with amazing fillings. I would have to say that this is the best gnocchi and probably the highlight of this place. We also ordered the veal after the last two amazing dishes but was disappointed. The veal was a bit salty and dry so I wouldn't recommend this. read more

It is very small and they are open for short hours so you need to get there as soon as it opens or make reservations because it tends to fill up very quickly. My husband and I got the chicken livers, which was tasty. He had never had chicken livers and really liked it. We also got the butter sage sauce pasta and ravioli.
