Staff was pretty efficient and good but working the streets like hustlers a bit too much. Pizza was worthless. Would have rather had dominos. Not Italian at all. Like another commenter, this restaurant was recommended to us by our guide whos family has been in Venice for centuries. It was Christmas day, and we had a reservation at Harry's Bar (HB), but after reading a lot of negative things about HB, we decided to go simpler. We stood outside for a minute looking at the menu after receiving the recommendation, when a waiter kindly came out and asked if we needed any help. We said that we would be returning later. He said they would be open until 11 p.m. So glad we returned! We didn't have a reservation, and the place was packed. But the owner said he would try to fit us in, gave us a complimentary glass of Prosecco, and about 15 minutes later arranged for a small table for us. And it was terrific! I had the shrimp cocktail, and the shrimp was prepared perfectly. I'd actually go a little bit lighter on the sauce, but it was easy to remove, and the shrimp were perfectly prepares and delicious. My wife asked for pasta with a simple Pomodoro tomato sauce, and she loved it. The main entree was the star. We had the Branzino (sea bass) prepared in a salt dome, and they presented the fish first, and then after preparing it, fileted and deboned it tableside. Served it with grilled vegetables and spinach, and the house Pinot Grigio was a perfect match. It turned out to be a top 10 Christmas dinner of all times. Topped it off with pannacota, and a double espresso. Complementary biscotti and limoncello were a surprise happy ending. Then the owner tried to give us a discount, for aving given us a table close to the coat area, and we returned it and then some as a tip. Our table was fine and had great views of everything! Other dining guests and we struck up some conversations, and it was just a delightful, joyous, genuine and sweet evening. Buon apetito! read more

After several failed attempts to find good places to eat in Venice with no rude waiters and bad food with ridiculous prices, we found this Jem! This is the only place we will bring our visitors now and have eaten here at least 10 times. Amazing fresh seafood for reasonable prices for Venice considering it's all fresh from the nearby fish market! I have seen some of it carried in still alive! Super fresh! This restaurant was in a great location and took our tour group immediately. The server filled up our wine glasses without us even asking which was nice. I am not a huge seafood fan, and we had pasta with mussels. It was okay, and not too fishy. This restaurant came highly rated in the Rick Steves book; avoid it if you can as McDonald's is much better. The food was the worst meal our family had on a ten day trip to Italy, and the service was not much better which makes me want the 12 percent service charge back. My wife, for example, ordered a pasta dish with shrimp in a red sauce: the dish tasted like raw fish with no other hints of herbs, spices, or even the sauce. She didn't eat it, and when the waiter finally showed up at the conclusion of the meal (he wouldn't come by to ask if we wanted more wine or bottled water at any time during the meal) and asked if there was a problem with her meal, his response was basically "too bad." I realize in a tourist town there really is no incentive to provide (a) good food or (b) good service but, hopefully, someone will read this review and go somewhere else. read more

Food was good. Specials were pricy. Some said it was best tiramisu they ever had. According to the Rick Steve's guide there is a price fixed meal available. It was not offered. Get that and you should be fine. Service by the rest of our wait staff was good but the main waiter was questionable as he would not honor our selections and tried to be confusing with what "the whole table needed." He picked a more expensive wine than we were asking about and added extra dishes to share. Then he added a 12% service fee and told us it was the government tax (yeah right) and we should tip over and above that. Showmanship in a waiter is one thing but this was just manipulative. Diminished what should have been a great evening. Why not just let your food do the talking? read more

I decided to stop in here for lunch because they offered meal options that includes more than one item at a reasonable price. I had meal option #1 which is the seafood spaghetti and calamari. The calamari was delicious but the pasta dish lacked flavor. I also ordered a spitzer of campiri and they were very generous with the campiri. It may be impossible to find a decent meal in the theme park that is Venice, but this place comes close. The octopus was delicious, the pasta was very good. The "sea bass" was most likely tilapia (a common switcheroo everywhere, not just here), the swordfish well-done tuna, but who wants to start an argument on their vacation. Restaurant was recommended by hotel The waiter owner pushed high priced menu items and kind of insisted we order them. The menu is pricey for €€ and quality is not so good. We ordered fish dishes and at least two of us got upset stomach. They do give complimentary limoncello but it is all part of price including service charges. Probably the highest priced meal we had in Venice. Lesson learned. Next time listen to yelp reviews versus hotel recommendation. read more

food was extremely good but pricey and portions are not large. located across the fish market which explains how their seafood is so fresh. their "prawns" on the menu are more like small crayfish. mushroom soup is extremely delicious. octopus salad was also amazing. flavor was great on my seabass. good food like I said, but prepare to pay for it. would recommend if u have some extra in budget. read more

Ok I'm just gonna be real here. It's a very nice restaurant and a very good location. But why do we go to expensive restaurants? We go for the amazing food of course. This restaurant is a tourist trap. All the hotels in this area will recommend you go here. My fiancé and I ate here and to be completely honest, the food was very bland and not exciting for the palate. If your looking for a romantic dinner in Venice, I would not choose this restaurant....
