Seedy is the perfect word to describe this venue. If you frequent Vineyard, you'll know what I mean. I have only ever been to Vineyard on a Sunday afternoon but its seems that's the perfect time to go. When the suns out with a Corona in hand this is place where you can really appreciate St Kilda in all its glory. You'll get your occasional regulars but aside from the clicks, the individuals that this beer garden/ night spot & restaurant attracts is really what makes the atmosphere so entertaining and worthwhile. The staff are friendly, the service is speedy and if you enjoy a good lazy afternoon of people watching, or alternatively a night in listing to local bands and DJ's then this is the place for you. It's not winning any awards for service excellence and is probably not the most hygienic of places especially to be serving food, but hey you get what you see & everyone knows it.

I think the jury is still out on this place for me. I loved loved loved the lazy sunday afternoon I spent here on the small but cute patio in the sun, people watching with a bottle of crisp sauvignon blanc. My friend and I shared a grilled calamari salad, and a calamari pasta that I would never normally choose, but Im so glad I did. The seafood was fresh, and the wine list was great. On the other hand, I came here for a night out with friends a few weeks later, and was there during the awkward change over from the dinner service to the evening bar crowd. It was loud, and while I didnt mind the band that was playing, i wouldnt have enjoyed it quite as much if I was trying to finish my dinner like a few patrons were. I've spotted footballers and local celebs here, and the clientele's dress code says "I spent three hours getting ready tonight, but Im trying to convince you I just threw something on." A fun night out- I'll just remember to stick to an earlier meal here!!

An awesome little place in an awesome little neighborhood…read more St. Moritz is an inviting little restaurant with a distinct European flare. It has an open airy atmosphere, fun lighting and a fantastic all night happy hour on Mondays. For a couple of yanks not used to $12 dollar beers this was a welcome development. And the Monday $1 oysters didn't hurt either! We started the meal with the truffled polenta chips and truffled mushroom arancini. Pretty much anything with the word truffled will instantly be ordered when I look at a menu. Both of these were crispy and delicious with excellent aioli dipping sauces lacing the plates. Being a couple of Americans we could not resist the Kangaroo carpaccio. It was good as a novelty but did not blow me away. The scallops and oysters were also very good. Hands down the best item we ordered, however, was the Lamb mint pea risotto. This was a masterful risotto prepared to perfection. A symphony of subtle flavors topped with perfectly medium rare pieces of succulent lamb. This dish could not have been better!

A counter filled with a myriad of options that you can mix and match with a mountain of rice depending on the size of your appetite. This style of eating is common in Indonesia and while the bain-marie style might at first be off-putting, it really shouldn't deter you as the food is made fresh and turned over in such quick succession that you can be assured that it's not sat there for days on end. If you're in the mood for more veggies one day, or more meat the next you simply point and say "a little" or "a lot" as the kind staff pile everything on to your plate. Try and arrive early to order a tea and take a seat otherwise you will be fighting the office crowds of nearby buildings (the Indonesian consulate is next door and they all know where the good stuff is at!)

The food is prepared with quality ingredients and never disappoints. I work next door so this is a regular haunt and I hope more people come and support businesses who serve good food and smiles. Better than most Indonesian places I have had in Oz. Try the beef rendang and curry vegetables. I recommend this place for lunch dine in or takeaway each $10 or less.
