Nice big selection of food. Just sampled a few things.

Stayed in the Crown Towers hotel and found this restaurant on the 1st floor. It had a very large breakfast buffet. Lots of different choices to chose from. I got full fast from trying the different meat pies. Their eggs were like mush, kinda gross. Everything else was so good. Great service, loved the hotel and will stay there again when in town.

What better way to start the day than a good quality buffet breakfast at the Conservatory. This buffet is open for both public and hotel guests and is a fantastic place to start the morning. Every time I stay at crown I HAVE to have the breakfast here. The Conservatory offers a continental and hot breakfast. The danish's, croissant's and pastries are all fresh and just as good as the ones you would find at a high end bakery. There is a large selection of cereals and juices (self pour), as well as yoghurts, fresh fruit, muesli and muffins. The hot food offers a full range of breakfast standards (including, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, hash browns etc.), there are also Asian style dishes available in the morning (such as dim sums, and congee). The setting of the conservatory has a bright atmosphere that is elegant and simple. The staff are consistent with the collection of plates and beverage refills. If you are staying the night at crown (or even if you're not), I would highly suggest starting your morning with a buffet breakfast at the Conservatory.

Beautiful high tea table setting

I love the buffet breakfast at the conservatory. There are about 5 different styles of breakfast that you can have. Every time I go it's definitely an eyes bigger than my stomach experience. This review however will be focused on high tea. I came here for a private high tea function and walked into the most beautifully set up high tea table. I loved how the flowers were set in tea pots and the afternoon sunlight shining down on the tables just lit the whole place up. It was so beautiful I didn't want to disturb it but my stomach got the better of me. The little high tea treats were divine. It's amazing how little things can fill you up. I was surprised there were no macarons or profiteroles or éclairs on the 3 tier tray though. A few too many tarts for someone that isn't really a fan of tarts. Loved the scones but they could've been better if they were brought out warm and fresh out of the oven. I did notice the little specs of vanilla bean in the cream though. Vanilla bean definitely ftw! The only other thing I could fault them on was the selection of teas. Normally I'm used to going to high tea with a selection of teas larger than the selection of desserts. They only had English breakfast from the pot or other standard teas by request. Bit disappointed in that. The random (or maybe not so random) thing though was the pot of Asian food that came out half way. I understand that crown really does its best to cater to their Chinese clientele but this was a bit too much. Sort of interrupted the post English vibe we had going on. The food wasn't that great either. All in all though a fabulous afternoon. Made for some great photos as well.

Goji berries are served in hot soup noodles corner. Avoid long queues pls come at 12pm. Salads are not so attractive.

We've been going to the Conservatory the last 15 years or so whenever in Melbourne and it's consistently a very satisfying and enjoyable experience. The ambience is pleasing, the service is good, and there's always a great selection of food from a variety of cuisines. We'll continue making it a destination when in Melbourne.

I LOVE mangosteen but it's hard to get fresh ones in the US so was super stoked to see those available! The indoor section with cheeses, meat and seafood was also super impressive! Food came quickly at the start but then they lost one of our later order submissions so we waited ages for the last batch. If you are on a time constraint (damn you, work!), I would advise to order as much as possible in one go. I must say, this is the first opportunity I've had in Australia to indulge in all you can eat salmon sashimi, so naturally I went nuts and binge ate my way through these beauties. A few of them didn't have the fat completely trimmed off, but overall they were pretty decent quality. I thought the prawn dumplings were hella good, they were freshly steamed and hot (nobody likes warm dumplings!) and on par with my fave yum cha restaurant. The scallops (which were on the 'specials' menu), were special indeed, prepared a bit differently to what I've seen before, and garnished with sliced chilli, definitely worth getting a plate of these. Their grilled eggplant was cooked in a sweet miso sauce (I think?), very soft and tasty. That rounds off my top 4. Dessert options consisted of either sweet red bean soup (not bad) or seasonal fruit. Order both, just coz you can! I was quite impressed with the wide selection of different types of Asian cuisine available. The dining experience was more like a banquet, as they offer a sit down table service and bring the food to you, which is not common for buffets but definitely should be, from a hygiene perspective. FYI they do have chopsticks, but you have to ask for them. Come prepared with a huge appetite, and you will enjoy it here!
