The parking fee to enter the whole greater park is reasonable especially with all of the things you can do in Coyote Point. One of the cooler playgrounds we have seen, clearly this was really well thought out. Having the 3 story castle really got our daughter excited as soon as she saw it. The dragons to talk through to each other is really unique. Our daughter had a blast playing here and meeting a couple of kids early in the morning. Well maintained park, clean, seems to be a pretty safe spot. As a parent chasing a 4 year old the fencing between the big kids and little kids area was pretty annoying since it lacked gates where I would expect them to be.

Play structure is newer, grass is in great condition, and redwoods were planted as they should - in a cluster - to help support them in wind. (The San Leandro Marina - very windy - hasn't got a clue). Gross incompetence runs that city. This is a great city - I believe a lot of professionals working in San Francisco live here if they have kids. It just makes sense with school districts and parks and safety. Hey, I wouldn't be surprised if the mayor of SF lived here secretly.

There is also an enclosed dog park right next to the basketball court, although it's a bit smaller than other dog parks. On weekends, there are softball/baseball games in play in the field next to the park, but we were able to find parking relatively easily in the street. Bring a jacket if you come - even on a warm day, there are many areas of this park that are shaded due to the heavy trees in the area so it can get a bit chilly if you're in the shade.

It has a somewhat awkward layout wherein the concrete trail does not go full circle and leads to dead ends that force you to turn around and backtrack. But the place is small enough that it hardly matters. There are alluring features all around, trees and greenery (bamboo, bonsai, and more), beautiful even in late fall when cherry blossoms are not in bloom, sculptures blending in with the surrounding wildlife, a lovely pagoda and teahouse with seating where I was able to lounge for a while. Water flowing along the streams, fountains gushing at the center of the pond, several bridges where visitors stop to take photos, too. Also, plenty of signs reminding people to stay on the path. Be aware, no food, no drinks, no dogs, and no strollers are allowed on the pathways in the garden.

There were plenty of bathrooms scattered throughout the picnic areas. The one I used was relatively clean and had plenty of toilet paper. They have a lot of trails here where you can bike or walk. You can watch the planes go in and out of the airport above you! There are also a lot of birds hanging out in and by water if you want to bird watch. I was hoping to catch some sea lions but I guess they weren't around. There is unfortunately a lot of powerlines in the area that would spoil an otherwise nice view but what can you do. I also saw there was a yacht club by the water! I saw you could rent the facilities for parties (not sure if you had to be a member or not).

My most favorite part of Coyote Point Recreation Area is the CuriOdyssey, which you can see my review for separately. Although this is a beach, it's unlike any beach that I've seen in SoCal, at least in my area. Pretty green, murky, and muddy, I wouldn't say it's the most ideal to go into, especially if you're not going to immediately shower afterwards. I don't think I saw people in the water either, even with it being June, but the breeze and cooler Bay Area weather kept everything nice and mild. Most people were flying kites or just going on walks. There are rentals for wind surfing and there were a couple people suited up for that. I heard there was a cosplay gathering here and it made many a cosplayer's outfit green though...There are playgrounds for the kids, a good amount of trees, a couple trails, a marina for the boats docked there, and some monthly/seasonal community events as well. I don't think I'd normally visit this area if it weren't for the CuriOdyssey, but it's not bad when I am there.

There were play structures and swings appropriate for toddlers through elementary aged kids. I loved the soft padding for the ground and seating around the area. There's also a large grassy field for running or chasing bubbles. It's right next to a community center (I think). There's a parking lot and also street parking around the perimeter. Highly recommend!
