A friend who lived in Sugarland highly recommended this place, so while I was in the area one morning, I decided to check it out.
Village Bao is located inside Welfresb Market. Once you enter the market, it is on your right side. There are plenty of seating around, not limited to Village Bao customers. You order the goo at the counter and pick it up yourself.
Since it's a bao place, I decided to try a Mei cai bao which has Mei cai and pork, and a vegetarian bao which consists of cabbage, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, dried bean curd and mung bean noodles. I had originally wanted the green bean pork bun but they don't have any that day.
I also ordered a cup of hot soymilk (unsweetened) and a tofu pudding.
I enjoyed everything we got! I liked how the Baos had a good amount of filling versus being mostly skin. The skin was fluffy with a nice chew, good as well.
I enjoyed the soymilk, but I prefer the one I make in my instant pot. My favorite item was the soy pudding. It was soft and had the right consistency and texture, yum!
Since our first visit I came back to try some other items, including dumplings which everyone enjoyed as well. They do a really nice job with the pan fried dumplings, nice and crispy. Otherwise the skin is just average. However, the filling is yummy!
Overall a great hole in the wall find! read more
