Chicken avocado
Garth S.

The breads are amazing. Not sure why they scrimped on the turkey and them put it on one half of my sandwich. I would recommend tripling the amount of turkey. I basically tore off half the bread. Clam chowder not very good. More like potato soup with clam flavoring.

Turkey with cranberry sandwich.

Laughable amount of meat on this sandwich. Most of the bites I took were all bread and cranberry. No pride in building the sandwich either. Just throwing everything in there unevenly which made for a poor experience. Hard to believe this sandwich is supposedly their best seller. And even harder to believe that people can live with themselves charging money for this crap.

Exterior of you, the Village Baker.

If you are looking for a good local bakery/lunch spot then the Village Baker is for you. Fresh cookies, rolls, and whole breads are all freshly prepared. An interesting lunch menu is also available, but I wanted cookies! The staff were friendly and helpful about directing me to their various wares. I liked the clean, austere interior, and would like to try the lunch menu in the future. I also tried their jumbo chocolate chip cookies. These confections were soft, chewy and redolent of chocolate. I highly recommend you try them.

Cinnamon roll, best I've ever had!

The food here is always so fresh no matter what you order! My favorite is their club and provolone sandwich. It has mayonnaise/mustard sauce, turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. I typically get the lettuce and tomatoes off mine. The bread is so soft and fresh. The sandwich is huge! You could easily share it. I also love their bakery items. Everything I've tried is really good! Any of their cookies are delicious, their black magic cake is the best chocolate cake I've ever had, any of their bars are always so fresh and soft, and their cinnamon rolls are the best I've ever had! The dough to frosting ratio is perfect. They will most times have day old cinnamon rolls up near the register for almost half off and they still taste fresh. So if you're looking to save a little money and still get something good I recommend looking for those! They were advertising near the register that they now have an app to earn points and to order from. I downloaded the app while I waited in line and when I went to use it they said it's not working and said to try again next time. Kind of strange to be advertising an app that you can't even use yet but maybe next time it will be. You really can't go wrong with anything here. I've always had a good experience. The restaurant is clean and organized and the staff is always friendly.

BLT with Honey Rye Bread
Laura C.

I love Village Baker for their Honey Rye bread. I always get the BLT Sandwich with the rye bread and it's so delicious. My favorite salad is the raspberry salad, and the chipotle salad. I think the mandarine salad could be good without the sauce that comes with it ( it's has a sour bitte taste to it that I am not a fan of). We can also buy loaves of bread there! And I heard the pizzas are good. Head ups: The half salad portion is HUGE!

Yikes. Normally, I'm a big VB fan. Huge!! I crave their sandwiches on the daily. Today I decided to give the avocado toast a try and was very disappointed. It was not good. Zero seasoning and not much flavor. Which is very uncharacteristic of Village Baker, so I'm not sure if it was a one-off or if this is typical for the toast? I couldn't take more than a few bites before finding a protein bar to eat instead. I love Village Baker but I would not recommend the avocado toast. But the staff was friendly as always, so at least that salvaged today's trip!

I really like the village baker and they are usually reliable. However, I ordered a hot chocolate today and this really frustrates me. It was very light when I picked it up, which prompted me to open the lid and I saw it was only filled 3/4 of the way. It has a hint of chocolate as well. I feel ripped off.

KBAR with friends
Britton C.

I maybe a bit different on this review than others out there, BUT I'm not one to stop into Village Baker to grab savory food. Don't get me wrong I've eaten meals there several times, and I just find the food...a middle of the road meh and carb overdose. (Expected from a sandwich shop) What I do find extremely enjoyable and glutinous is their freaking awesome and yummy KBAR!!! I hear the kbar voice call my name when I drive past VB. No, I don't stop (not every time), but...after a meal we do stop for a yummy treat. Which we did last night and also picked up a sugar cookie and the banana pudding (which was also very delicious) Go get it if you like crushed special k in a butterscotch marshmallow treat topped in chocolate.

a note from a customer
Nycole R.

Village Baker reminds me of a European version of Kneaders-similar food (sandwiches, soups, cookies) but with a much more minimalist environment. You won't find cutesy home décor and gift baskets, but you'll find a solid menu of lunch options.

cookie

The chocolate cookie i just took a bite into from here tastes like it was doused in axe body spray and tossed around in a vat of men's cologne. HARD ASF TOO WTF

Supposed to be a full sandwich and the line is long.

Five stars all around. Not only was the food delicious, but the server (didn't catch his name) was…read moreso accommodating and sweet! This may be my new favorite poke place in Utah! My friend and I walked in a little after 7:30p on a Thursday, not realizing until we were on our way that they close at 8p. When we walked in, I was expecting a typical poke place where they make it front of you and you take your food and go, but it's actually a fancier-than-expected sit-down restaurant! It has a beautiful, sophisticated, and clean interior with great modern vibes. There was a host/server at the podium and he immediately welcomed us in and told us they could seat us no problem, despite the restaurant being empty and so close to closing time. We tried to order as quickly as we could, and I requested my order be served in to-go containers, which they kindly accommodated. I ended up choosing the spicy kilauea poke (spicy mayo tuna), which was $25 for 6 oz but included a scoop of rice. Definitely a touch pricey, but fair given how much fish they give you. It was DELICIOUS! Aaand it came with a little bit of avocado, which I loved! I would get it again in a heartbeat, even though I would love to try their freshie poke, steak poke, pork poke, or musubi...oh and their crack mac. Basically their whole menu, haha! Our server did mention these are meant to share, so very possible to try it all if you bring a willing group! My friend ended up getting the smash burger off the secret menu, and the server recommended she get it with Kilauea sauce. She liked it, although she said the sauce wasn't as spicy as she expected. She also got a side of foodie fries which she enjoyed. Overall would rate the whole experience 10 out of 5 if I could! Great food, great service, great ambiance...what more could you need?

The best customer service in the area thus far and I've been here almost 7 days and eaten at quite a few restaurants. The Spicy Kīlauea in my opinion was the bomb! Just the right portion, too. The Steak Poke was also delicious as well as the cabbage Kimchi and seaweed salad. Just wish the poke bombs were available this visit. Prices vary and are on the pricer side, but definitely worth it. The ambiance was perfect just right to sit and enjoy a good lunch with Aloha! I will definitely be back again.

I was impressed. Didn't expect much from bar food, but this was really good food…read more I had the fish and chips. The fish was very good. Good sized planks, three of them, with fresh tasting fish. The waitress asked if I wanted malt vinegar when taking my order. A very good sign. It came with a very good cole slaw, sliced thin and with an excellent creamy dressing. One of the best slaws I've ever eaten. The fries were excellent. It also came with tartar sauce, of course. Best tartar sauce I've ever had in my life. Seriously. I never eat fish and chips with tartar sauce, it has to be malt vinegar in every bite or it's sacrilegious. But this tartar sauce--wow. I alternated bites between the tartar sauce and the vinegar because I couldn't decide which I liked better. I took home what was left of the sauce so that my wife could taste it. She agreed that it was excellent. This was a board meeting for our club. Others had the steak salad, fish tacos, bacon wrapped hot dog, chicken teriyaki lo mein...other items that I don't know what they ordered. But all around me said what they were eating was very good. There were some nachos passed around, the Station Nachos: "House Made Tortilla Chips, Fresh Queso, Four Cheese Blend, Citrus Pickled Onions, and Pico de Gallo." It was very good. The place is a bar restaurant and the interior was comfortable enough. It was a bit noisy for the older folk in our club to hear each other for a meeting, but that's the way it is. Our server was efficient, though I was wondering about the order and time it took for the different items, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Our party of 15 got all of our food in good time. The waitress was friendly and efficient, but we were in a different large room and I think she was also waiting on tables in the main room. As such, I didn't get checked on my soft drink for refill. Not a biggie as I didn't need one. Pleasant surprise at the quality here. I would definitely return. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

My husband had the fish tacos and couldn't stop talking about them. They come with chips and salsa, so it's definitely filling. The salsa was fine, but the tacos were the real winner. They have a wide variety of drinks and a solid alcohol menu with plenty of options. The service was great from start to finish, and the restaurant itself was clean with a fun, relaxed vibe. Bonus points for being able to accommodate larger groups. They can handle parties of 10, which is not always easy to find. We're already planning to come back to play pool and check out their weekend brunch. Highly recommend.

This is my updated review from Sept 2021, and yes -- I'm still upset about this place. Zero stars…read moreif possible. One star only because the space is cute; everything else was a disaster. We arrived for our 12:45 reservation and checked in on time. No greeting. The blonde hostess said there'd be a 10-20 minute wait. Fine. When I checked again, the brunette hostess claimed we "weren't on the list," even though we had a confirmed reservation. After some back‑and‑forth, she suddenly found it and told us to come back in five minutes. We were finally seated, then ignored for 20 minutes with no water, no greeting, nothing. The blonde eventually took our order, apologized, and said the brunette "didn't know we were there," even though she was the one who sat us. She offered a $10 gift card we never received. Two dishes we ordered were unavailable -- and we only found out after waiting another 20-30 minutes and watching tables seated after us get their food first. No manager was available, just a "server assistant" who couldn't do much. By the time we left, it was 2:00 PM. We'd been there over an hour with no food and nonstop confusion. A nearby table mentioned slow service too, so clearly this wasn't just us. Key issues: * No greeting * Reservation "lost" * Seated then ignored * Two menu items unavailable * Conflicting stories from staff * Promised gift card never given * No manager available I hate writing negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable from start to finish, and people deserve to know.
