I'm told Villa Madina has been in Mic Mac Mall for a while but I only recently discovered them. I was walking around, looking for something to try when the very ... let's say enthusiastic guy behind the counter offered me a sample. Free food? For sure. I assumed it was because they were just opening and this was a sales pitch. He went to get me some chicken shwwarma but I declined, citing my vegetarianism. So he gave me a sample of something that I realize now I can't remember but it was good. Real good. So he whipped me up a plate. A big plate. A plate that far outstripped my appetite but it all looked very good. Throw in a drink and the bill came to about $12. Which, considering I'd been thinking a pizza slice was going to be my lunch, was more than I wanted to spend. But, I figured, I should be more adventurous. And the food was good. Very good. So good I kept eating long after the point of being full and I still had tons of food left. So, for food court fare, it's a bit more expensive than I might like to pay. But it's also better than most food court fare in terms of taste and health. You'll have to weight the pros and cons for yourself. read more

This is one food court vendor that I would love to see open up their own legit shop, if only so that I could enjoy their food without the inconvenience of having to venture into Mic Mac Mall. A medley of Mediterranean options, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's healthy, but it's definitely better for you (and better tasting!) than your other options in the mall. Their staff are always ridiculously friendly, helpful (particularly compared to the rest of the folks in the food court), and guaranteed to brighten your day. They'll gladly fill you in on what they've got, offer a sample or two, and send you on your way with one of their delicious platter deals. Falafel, shawarma, bean salads, hummus, garlic sauce...it's basically everything you've ever wanted to eat on a day when you don't have to have close conversations with anyone you care about. Still, bring along some mints for after. read more

If you find yourself in need of nutrients while carting around your swanky new outfit from H&M - look no further than Villa Madina. Really, it is hard to miss - usually, there is someone offering free samples of their chicken/beef to anyone who isn't making a beeline for A&W or New York Fries. That, and well, you can smell the garlic... the delicious, wonderful garlic... from half a mall away. While this is a chain restaurant with 32 locations in Canada, it doesn't seem so. The food is great - chicken/beef shwarmas, chicken/beef plates, great hummus, falafels, an assortment of salads, and... roasted garlic potatoes (don't go home without them!). At this particular location, the service is wonderful - the food is ready quickly and the staff are always very friendly and willing to help you select a side order that you'll enjoy. The only thing that prevents me from giving this location a better rating is... well, the location. A change in ambience would do wonders, though "Heavyweight Champ of the Mic Mac Food Court" will have to do for now. Oh... and do yourself a favour. If that swanky new outfit you just purchased was for a job interview, a first date, or any other important social situation which might call for close contact with another human being - go for a smoothie instead. The chicken shawarma plate here is phenomenal - decent size helpings of rice, some garlic potatoes, hummus and two sides of your choosing, topped with tender chicken and garlic sauce. Delicious. The options for sides include several types of regular salads, a bean medley, and various vegetables, such as pickles, pickled beets, peppers, etc. For a combo plate with a drink, it will run you around $12. Not too bad. The staff is friendly, and if you frequent there often (like I do), they are quick to remember you and your order. If you tip generously, they're also likely to stack your plate. Most of the food is also gluten-free friendly, including the falafel. They are also quick to offer samples if you're unsure about what you might like. This place is one of my absolute favorite places to go in the food court of mic mac mall. The staff is super friendly and helpful if you have questions and the food is AMAZING! I highly recommend the chicken shawarma platter and the tabouli salad is delicious! I'm not much for food courts but we were in Mic Mac Mall to pick up a couple things when my tummy started to grumble. I had a hankering for something garlicky so I followed my nose to this place where both the tummy and hankering were satiated. Reeling me in with a tiny sample of chicken in garlic sauce I was immediately hooked and ordered up the chicken shawarma plate. Nice healthy plate of rice, hummus, 2 salads, roasted potatoes and chicken with generous dollops of garlic sauce. The fattoush and bean salads were fresh and flavourful, the roasted potatoes crispy on the outside, hot and fluffy white on the inside, hummus was rich & creamy while the chicken was moist and tasty. Yeah, would be another star if it wasn't stuck in the middle of a noisy food court. read more

I love this place. There, full disclosure. Rarely do I ever eat anywhere else at the Mic Mac Mall food court. The guys here are great and they always recognize regulars, which is a nice touch. The food is fresh and made on the premises every day. My favorite is the combo plate of chicken and beef shawarma, served with roasted potatoes, garlic sauce, hummus and your choice of two salads. My choice is almost always the cabbage and the tabbouleh. My only gripe, but minor at that, is that I wish they made the tabbouleh with flat leaf parsley instead of the curly variety. Come on though, that's really being particular. Their falafels are always moist and flavourful and you HAVE to try the baklava. read more

A friend took me here a while back and I have been coming on my own ever since. It is not your typical food court fare. I usually get the chicken shwarma plate and it is delicious. Ok. I know it's not a burger and fries place. So it's not cheap. But really, the average burger and fries these days is what? $8.00? But eating well (healthier) is generally more $$ and I guess you have to sort of balance your budget about eating out in general to be more healthy right...? Well, this place Rocks. It's pretty simple. If you like the Greek tone of food this place will NOT disappoint and I am going back. So for 9 plus tax, this was amazing food. I agree with others on here, it is not often you find this calibre of food in a food court. Nice surprise. Now. If I only could have a glass of wine with this. I would have not left! LOL!! read more

I am a fairly recent convert to shawarma, like less than a year. I love it, when it's done right! Let me (semi) begin by saying how much I hate the mall. I mean, I have an inner tantrum when I know I have to spend any amount of time there and I shake my head thinking I once applied to a couple stores in there. There are a couple perks to the mall visit, I can get a cinnamon roll if I'm for it, I can get a frothy orange drink that I love on occasion and now that I know how much I love it, I can get really good shawarma with a fantastic garlic sauce that makes me warm and happy until I have to leave my food bubble and venture back to the mall halls. This last visit I decided to try a shawarma wrap rather than the platter and I was a little hesitant because I know I like mixing things together, but I was really pleased with it. They put the pickled turnips inside, and those are probably one of my favourite things about a shawarma experience and I was a little iffy about sharing them with my wrap insides, but holy crudmuffins, it's really good with everything else! Don't doubt them, they know what they're doing! I'm a huge fan of tabbouleh, but there's something a little off with theirs. It's a bit bland but I can't quite put my finger on what's missing to bring it up that small notch. The only other thing I don't care for about this place is I feel they are kind of pushy about bringing customers in, but that being said, if (re: when) they offer you a sample of chicken, for the love of all thing holy, take it and ask for a smidgen of garlic sauce with it. I actually stopped eating here before the renovations. I decided to try again today since renovations, bad idea, I ordered the chicken shawarma plate the chicken was sooooo dry, crunchy dry. When he was cutting the chicken off the spit he literally gave me all the burnt chicken, I could've actually put someone's eye out with it. The rice was cold, tasted like they changed the recipe for the potatoes, no spices on them also tastes like the recipe for garlic sauce also changed, taste like vinegar. I generally despair when I have to resort to the food court in the mall. Burgers, fries, and pizza don't do it for me in this context. Luckily during recent holiday shopping I spotted a friend in line here at Villa Madina and gave it a try. Although they were out of falafel, the chicken shwarma was served with my choice of fresh salads and tasty sauces, and I was satisfied. Prices aren't that bad, but my last two experiences were horrible. Both of the times, I ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate which comes with a side and drink. After having eaten that, I almost felt as if I was going to throw up. Food is never so fresh here. read more
