Came in on a Sunday afternoon during a weekend getaway with a couple friends back in September 2020. The indoor seating area was closed, but we were able to be seated outdoors right away. The view was mostly an open field looking out to the lake with the vines closer to the seating area. My friends and I ordered the Riesling Flight because it was highly recommended. I found it interesting that our wines were presented in science beakers. Definitely unique! The wines in the flight were pretty good, but there wasn't very much difference in flavor between each wine. We got to keep our wine glasses and I still use mine when I have a glass of wine at home! Our server was a bit overwhelmed and did take a bit of time to circle back to our table when we needed something, but we still enjoyed our experience. read more

Wow! I can't say enough good things about this winery! For $10 we were given a wine glass and a DELICIOUS sampling of wines (and a complimentary tasting, crackers, and a bottle of water too)! I got "The Road Less Travelled" flight and enjoyed every single tasting which almost never happens. JoEllen was so kind and helpful during our entire tasting. I appreciated that she brought all six samples out at once. She made sure that we were comfortable and taken care of the entire time! The patio seating was also beautiful. I wouldn't have minded sitting indoors either--such a clean, comfortable, and elegant atmosphere! I ended up purchasing four bottles. I highly recommend the 2015 Reserve Chardonnay, 2017 Gewurztraminer (limited production release), and 2018 Seyval Blanc. I'm so glad they ship because I'll be ordering from them soon! read more

Great wines! We enjoyed a stop here today for the first time. The weather wasn't cooperating so we sat inside but it was a beautiful dining room. We did the sweet flight and initially picked this location because of the moscato, but did not end up purchasing it. We did select two other wines from our flight and the port. Now called Missick Wine Cellars we arrived late in the day on a Friday and was able to fit in a tasting last minute. Unfortunately to our dismay , due to service shortages , they were only able to offer us the ability to buy wine by the glass or bottle and no tasting . We each got a glass of wine and just shared. The two stand out wines were the Chenin blanc and the white merlot . Oddly they did offer a tasting for 10 dollars of Black Button Distillery bourbons out of Rochester New York . I visited this winery on a small group tour in August. It is October and I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS WINERY! The wine tasted incredible. The views were great. But what really impressed me was the tour guide. He had a reddish beard and wore a hat and I believe he was the head winemaker (don't quote me - I was drinking lots of wine). We started the tour with a saber wine opening and a complete tour of the winery, followed by some heavy tasting tours. This man truly loves waking up every day and showing up for work. He is so proud of this business, and told us so much about the owner and his family. When I return to the Finger Lakes, this is the winery that is a MUST VISIT solely because of the experience I had with this one man there. He is truly a great aspect of the business and I hope he stays for forever. read more

All around great experience here. We went on a Saturday afternoon with a reservation during COVID and felt perfectly safe. The staff is SO friendly and Carol was so informative and lovely! We received complimentary sparkling wine to start our tasting with Bellangelo wine glasses we got to keep! (Love souvenirs) The views are breathtaking. This was our second visit to Bellangelo with out of town visitors. The great view from the tasting room is worth a stop by itself. They also have one of the nicest and best decorated wine shops along Seneca Lake. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The pours were very large though a bit more expensive than others on the lake. The wine was pretty typical for what you get in the Finger Lakes - we are no wine critics. Villa Bellangelo is one of my favorite stops on Seneca Lake. Their tasting room has one of the best views of the lake, you can't beat it! The wine here is delicious, I particularly love the white merlot and their dry rose. Most of their wine is very competitively priced, ranging close to around $20 a bottle. They also have tasting of fantastic olive oils, my two favorites that they sell that I would recommend trying are the bacon olive oil and the Italian herb oil. There's also a garlic oil and plain oil for sale as well as a balsamic vinegar. This is such a beautiful spot and well worth the stop in the fingerlakes. read more

This was stop #2 on our wine tour trail as it was recommended by a friend. They didn't disappoint. We appreciated the 5 tasting options of lists in their menu compared to others that just had "dry" or "sweet". We went with the "road less travelled" and "sweet." I thought trying a White Merlot for the first time was pretty cool. But the Cabernet was my fave. My only feedback is the nice young lady who greeted us and explained the wines talked really fast and it was hard to keep up. She seemed really busy and in a rush. I do love how this place is more of a self serve / DIY tasting so you get to taste them at your own pace. $13 gets you the tasting of 6 wines and a glass as a souvenir. Beautiful views - great photo ops. Wish I knew they served food at this one. After reading the reviews I'm bummed we didn't ask about their cheese platters! read more

We just completed a trip to the FL region and we made a stop at Villa Bellangelo. It had been a couple years since our last visit to VB but we wanted to try their Gibson Vineyard riesling. In the past we had purchased a few cases of the 2012 Gibson Vineyard Riesling and we considered it the best in the FL region. Upon arriving and after doing a general tasting we met Dan Budmen, Vineyard Manager and Assistant Winemaker, and Alex Wheeler, Cellar Master. Dan and Alex could not have been nicer and it was obvious that they enjoyed their work! We were the only ones in the tasting room and our conversation with Dan and Alex ran on for quite awhile (that is why we come during the week!). Dan surprised us by instructing Alex to get a bottle of the 2018 Gibson Vineyard Riesling from the cellar. It was recently bottled but not yet available for general tasting and not yet released for sale. IT WAS OUTSTANDING! Dan and Alex took us on a tour of the cellar and storage area and we even tasted a couple additional wines that will be released soon. Here is a picture of our visit. We've been to both of their locations on Seneca. The southern location has gorgeous views and a beautiful room off to the side with a long bar and large windows. Matt served our tasting today and it could not have been a better experience. He provided amazing detail about the entire vine-to-wine process as well as information about the climate and soil's effect on the quality and taste of a wine. They have a new dark red blend called "Foreward" that is outstanding. Their other dry reds are well worth the stop, and the two chardonnays they offer are quite good, too. read more

Villa Bellangelo was a great find for us when we visited the Finger Lakes. Our host was brand new to the job, but was incredibly outgoing, approachable and knowledgeable. When she didn't have an answer to one of our questions, she immediately asked one of her more tenured coworkers, who were all quick to respond. The best part about Villa Bellangelo is the gorgeous view of Seneca Lake behind the winery. The view overlooks the lake and you get to face it while you enjoy your tastings. Their wine is also phenomenal, they have a great variety of wines to choose from. They have a little gift shop when you first walk into the winery, which is fun to browse around. We stopped in Villa Bellangelo on a Friday afternoon. There was not much of a crowd, and plenty of room at the bar. The views of Seneca were great! There is a long row of windows in front of the tasting bar, as well as a long row of windows in the sitting area. Our server, Doug, was extremely impressive with his knowledge on the wines and the area. He explained the origins of the winery and the barrel people that are by the road. We also got to witness the grapes (for the white merlot) being poured from the grape box to the masher. The wines were very good, I'm a dry drinker and there were plenty of dry reds there that I enjoyed. Doug was great! We will definitely be back! read more

I thought about giving this winery only three stars but ultimately I feel their Rustica wine bumps them up a whole star. Rustica is their sweet red offering, and it is out of this world. How can I describe it to you? Don't let this turn you off, but it tastes like a juicy Mexican soda. That's right! It's got an acidic kick but is very sweet and fruity. It was by far the most unique wine I tasted on my finger lakes trip. Apparently it is based off of sparkling Lambrusco wines; I will be honest and say I had never heard of them before coming here. While this winery had the singular most unique wine, I have to say most of their other wine offerings that I tried were very average. Most of the whites I tried tasted very similar to each other, so nothing really stood out otherwise. Now don't get me wrong, the wines were not bad, they just weren't unique. Their tastings will run you five dollars a piece, so compared to nearby competition this is a little pricey. The staff here is very nice, and the tasting bar looks out over Lake Seneca. On our weekend trip this was the least crowded winery we went to, so if you hate crowds give this place a shot. Overall an enjoyable experience, go for the Rustica though because most other offerings are so-so. read more

We've only been to Bellangelo a handful of times. It's not an every time stop for us but the people we went with this past weekend love it there. The tasting is reasonably priced - $5 for 5 - and the people are friendly. The winery is very pretty and the view looks right over Seneca Lake. They have a large variety of pretty unique wines and the quality is good. For me personally, they don't have many dry red wines. Also, there wine is on the above-average to pricey side depending on what you purchase. (Still - it's good; we did in fact leave with a bottle of something tempting.) read more

Is a 19 year old allowed to serve wine? Maybe it's just my ever-increasing oldness, but the kid, and I mean kid, serving the wine was... knowledgeable no doubt, but didn't look a day over 21 if he was. No matter I suppose, it was just a little weird. Very beautiful vineyard here, nice tasting room, pleasant shopping experience. Lots of local grapes in their bottles... Guertz, Tram, Cab Franc, etc. If you don't know what those mean, you probably think I'm a horrible snob and will stop reading here. Still have me? Cool. There is just a soussant of douchiness at this place - selecting your wines is performed on erasable glass slabs with the wine list pasted to the back of each one... every wine includes info about the alcohol, the residual sugar, AND the pH... I am updating my review because of a very authentic and personal email from the owner. He took the time to address each point of my review. I was absolutely blown away by his character. Chris explained the permit issues that have lead to the plastic cups. He invited me back for a personal tour and the opportunity to hear about future plans. If I had to guess, Villa Bellangelo will be a GREAT winery in the next year or two. They are working out a few issues but the response from Chris was amazing. My initial review stands as what the present is but not the future. I look forward to reading more reviews over the coming months and having the opportunity to retaste in the near future. Quite an underrated winery, and when you enter you have the feeling of entering into an Italian countryside. The back windows offers a great view of Seneca Lake. This winery is not messing around with a no thrills approach. They are here to serve wine and that's all they sell, no souvenir shop or little widgets, just wine! We came last year and had fallen in love with their Sangiovese 2005. At $37, it was a bottle clearly out of the price range that I'm comfortable spending on a bottle of wine, but boy was it ever worth it. I was completely disappointed when I heard that it was a one time bottling, and no longer for sale. Our wine pourer turned out to be the owner, Mike, from the city. It was an interesting story on how he made it up to the finger lakes. Back to the wine though. All are full of flavors. But of all, I have to admit, the Porto Elena 2007 is a great port for anyone. After dinner, after a long day or with cigars, this is the port you need to try. I ended up getting 2 bottles of port and Mike even referred me to a liquor store that had some Sangiovese left! read more

A gorgeous tasting room with a fantastic view and good wines along with some experimental wines, you'll be hard pressed to find something you don't like at Villa Bellangelo. One of the first stops at Seneca Lake (since they open at 10AM), Villa Bellangelo is a great way to start the day. The tasting room is one of the nicest I've been to in the region, with a new wood-finished interior and seating area, along with a bar overlooking Lake Seneca (just don't look down, as the loading area is just below the windows). If you're looking for some wine swag, they have a pretty extensive gift shop as well. The tasting is 5 for $5 and you get to pick by marking your picks on their glass-enclosed tasting list. My favorites of what we tried of the whites was the Dry Riesling (good acidity with green apple and a hint of lime), Tuller Vineyard Riesling (grown at a different vineyard, similar acidity but with a bit more minerality), and the Gewurtztraminer (floral spice on the nose, crisp clean taste). Of the reds, I really enjoyed the Cabernet Franc (soft tannins, medium bodied, cherry and vanilla with some raspberries), the Merlot (black cherry, cedar, and some blueberry, good body) and the Meritage (fuller bodied with more of a tobacco and dark cherry flavor). Not on the tasting list but maybe available if you ask, they also do some experimental wines such as what I purchased the Bench Fifty 50 2013, which is a direct press Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend that doesn't taste like anything you've ever had before (they also have this really cool cork gun that can pour the wine out of the bottle without taking out the cork or breaking the seal - what a time to be alive). Overall, the wines here are solid and nothing too far out of the ordinary for their regular tasting list. If you can swing the experimental wines please try - you may not like it but you'll appreciate the experiment. The wines are close to the top for the area read more

Extremely rude. We had a large group but waited and we split into 2 groups. We were not in a hurry and even let 4 people go in front of us. The gentlemen was super rude to us and didn't give us all our tastings. When my Aunt and cousin were purchasing 20 bottles of wine at check out the gentlemen that worked there was talking out our group and how we were "trying to fool them with two groups". All together we bought 20 bottles of wine. Bad customer service!!!! Super rude. I went back in and asked to speak to a manager and as I was walking out they continue talking about my self and my group of Aunts and cousins. I guess not all money is equal!!!! A must visit for ambiance, view, wine and staff attention. Visited on 3/21/2013.This winery has perhaps the best views of Seneca Lake of all the Seneca Lake wineries. The new owners have refinished the location to an absolute excellent standard. The fit and finish of the location are absolutely tops, they exceed other wineries around Seneca Lake. To judge this for yourself you must visit this winery. One room has a nice set of tables and chairs surrounding a self playing grand piano with a full length view of windows. Another room has a stand up tasting bar so that the taster is looking out at this exceptional view of Seneca Lake and right over to the other shore across the lake, and the surrounding beauty. I tried the Moscato, Dry Riesling, Riesling, and Chardonnay and for reds the Francesca Rossa, and Merlot. Each of these was excellent. Their Gewürztraminer bears special mention as tops. Gewürztraminer is such a unique wine and the Villa Bellangello styling and flavors were just outstanding. The Moscato was perfect, I could enjoy that every day. The Scooter line of wines has a fun attitude and great execution. These are excellent table/picnic/everyday wines with vinifera, hybrids and lubrusca blended to create flavor hits. They come in pouches and since a pouch is 2 bottles you have to divide the price by 2 to understand the price for these wines. They are excellent values. The staff was exceptionally friendly and informative. The winery has researched its location and its the location of the oldest vines in Yates County and maybe other areas. They are just starting to develop this history. This location should not be missed. read more

My wife and I went to Bellangelo on the west Seneca Lake tour of Experience the Finger Lakes wine tour in July 2021. The owner and wine maker Chris was a terrific host. He impressively sabered a bottle of sparkling wine for starters before giving us a tour of the winery. The winery is situated on a scenic spot above the lake. All the wines we sampled were fabulous. My personal favorites are the dry Riesling and Cabernet Franc, but he specializes in sparkling wine. I highly recommend a visit. You will not be disappointed. This is a nice little winery that has a spectacular view on Lake Seneca. The wines are pretty good, but the setting is by far the draw here as the landscape is truly ideal. Yes, great view I will definitely say it has been one of the prettier places to drink wine, but as far as visiting again? Eh, I think we'll probably skip over this one. I don't think it's expensive like some other people suggested, $5 for the tasting is pretty average compared to most of the places on the lake, some place will add that money to a bottle you buy so that's always a plus. When you first walk in it's through the 'gift shop' and the back has the tasting room with the great views, there is also another room when its more busy or if they have event, I assume. If you want to pay with a card you have to do it at the front cashier, they won't take cards in the back. Not a problem at all, but there is no need to be rude about it, which the girl was very standoff-ish. We didn't feel very welcomed at this place, the girl who was working just seemed more interested in the people who seemed to "fit" better, more collared shirts and upscaled clientele. I get it, there's a grand piano, but no need to be rude to us. We tried to throw some humor in with our visit because our friends menu had some wines they no longer carried and she didn't seem amused with us. It wasn't even that busy but she could care less at our end of the bar, quick pours and a walk away to schmooze the people with the possibility of more money.
