At first when we went to McGregors they asked if we had a reservation. We didn't have a reservation and thought it was odd because nobody was even there. The parking lot was bare, and she said let me see what I have and they had availability. I found it odd because, yes the place is small but come on you have availability. You shouldn't take reservations and should be first come, first serve period. That's why I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5. They do have a nice dog that does come around for not pets, but the ability for you to provide him food. He's nice, then they let him outside because he was bothering all of the guests, but would come up to the door outside and look at us all in hope to get some food. As for the wine, the wine was pretty good. This place has been here for 50 years. We had a cheese tray and sampled wines. read more

This was a really nice stop on the Keuka Lake wine trail! Great views of the "y" in the lake from up here! Staff were so friendly and accommodating, as well as knowledgeable about their wine selections. We were very happy with our selections and enjoyed the rocking chairs on the porch. This is one of the best tasting experiences in the region. I've been coming here several times a year for over a decade. I keep coming back because the experience is top notch. They have wonderful wines, period. Delicate, nuanced, large variety of whites reds rose and sparkling. Each tasting comes with a little curated pairing plate that makes the tasting that much more enjoyable. Cheese, chocolate, and their pesto dip (I could write a review of that on its own, I buy a tub every visit, so tasty). The staff are warm, accommodating and attentive. They are dog friendly, which is huge for me since I travel from Buffalo with my fur kids in tow. They even bring my dogs water and biscuits. There is indoor and outdoor seating here and the view is positively stunning, it overlooks Keuka's bluff. They have lunch plates too! Really nice charcuterie, local soft pretzels, baked Brie, veggies and dip, etc! And the merchandise selection, you can purchase all the lovely snacks and products, handmade pottery, apparel, wine accessories and so much more. Did a tasting today, sat outside as the weather was perfect. I did all whites including gewurztraminer, semi dry Riesling, Riesling, vignoles, and late harvest vignoles. All were good, the reisling was my favorite as it was slightly sweet which is how I prefer Riesling. The semi dry Riesling was good too though. Their saperavi is also very good. I am going to tell you to MAKE A RESERVATION!! I was with a friend who made them! Even on a cloudy, misty, damp day it's busy! My brother oddly was also out wine tasting with friends on Keuka yesterday and couldn't get in, they had no reservations. I like sweet wines and these were on the drier side. Even their sweetest was a little dry for me. When I first started drinking wine I liked the drier wines, but as I got older and drink less, I just want the job done quick and I like my wines sweet and juicy tasting! They serve you a slice of cheese, oyster crackers, Chocolate wafers and a cracker with spinach pesto dip. I had to buy a tub and the chocolate wafers. It had an adorable tasting room with bench seating and fairy lights above. There were beautiful flowers outside and the view was to die for!! read more

This was a big surprise for us. Absolutely one of the best winery experiences we have had. The view of Keuka Lake was amazing from our tasting room table. We really got lucky as our tasting host was Anne, a McGregor, who actually planted some of the existing grape vines when she was 10 years old. Anne explained every wine on the menu, with amazing detail. Our choices, 4 reds and one white, were all fantastic. We, also, ordered a Brie and fruit plate that took the place of lunch. It came with delicious Ciabatta bread, perfect for the Brie. My wife and I highly recommend a visit to this winery! read more

McGregor Winery is top notch in every category. I visited last week in August 2023, and the view, ambiance and people are fantastic. I would rate the rose's in the 90 point range. Both rose's were expertly timed for skin contact and fermented in a soft and loving manner. The owner Ann is so friendly and helpful. She spent time on the deck with my group and shared her stories of being a weekend warrior in the vineyard while growing the business. Excellent Vineyard - McGregor was a staple visit of ours for years, so much so that we decided to become members. We truly enjoy ourselves every time we visit. The views from the tasting room (or even better, the deck) are phenomenal. Sometimes we'll just go, buy a bottle of wine and some cheese, and just sit on the deck and relax. The staff of the tasting room is always very helpful, answering any questions you need. Wine Tasting - A few dollars for 5 tastings, a snack plate and a glass to take home. Nice additional touches, the glass, and the snacks. The staff is helpful and ready and willing to answer questions. The wine - I've never had a bad wine at McGregors, but some of them I like much better than others. The Chardonnay is always good, as are the Rieslings. But the reds here are phenomenal. There are a few vineyards in the finger lakes that know how to do red, and McGregors is certainly one of them. The Black Russian (also known as Saparavi) is amazing. Rob Roy is another excellent red wine. And the Highland Red is a reasonably priced, everyday red that we have really come to love. The view - sitting high above Keuka Lake, the views can't be beat. It's a great way to spend an hour, just sitting, enjoying some wine and cheese and relaxing while overlooking the lake. All in all, McGregor is one of, if not THE best winery in the Finger Lakes, at least in my opinion. It's not a visit to the region if you don't stop by. read more

I met John McGregor a few years ago at a wine event at a Watkins Glen wine event. I was very impressed with the wines I tasted. I joined their wine club that they had just started and have been buying wines ever since. I have been to their winery in the Finger Lakes a few times and have gone to a tasting event held in the barrel room a few years ago. Great wines and great staff, especially Dan. What I loved about the wine tasting at McGregor is that you're seated, and they offer (tiny) free cheese, cracker with dip and dark chocolate with your tasting. If it's not crowded, you might be able to do your tasting with a great view of Lake Keuka. When you finish your tasting, I recommend sitting on their magnificent terrace with a glass of wine and a snack and staring at the lake. They have brand new Adirondack chairs; the short ones looked like rocking chairs. The wine I liked the most was the semi-dry gewurztraminer 2017. None of the wines I had wowed me enough to want to buy one. read more

First time visit To McGregor with my sister, mother and grandmother. While driving we realized our arrival time would be late for the reservation. So we called ahead to give warning of the tardiness. This was one occasion that being late was beneficial because there were three groups waiting ahead of us in reception. It was apparent the winery was not properly staffed for a sunny Saturday. So we stood, Gram sat, and wait an unreasonable amount of time to be acknowledged and brought to our table. I wish I had more time to view the outdoor patio and indoor decor but we were quickly sat outdoors under a tent. I asked the server for an order of Grappa because the drink held an entire full page description. The server replied, you should wait to taste the Grappa to maintain your palate. And I never received the Grappa I ordered after the wine flights were finished. The four of us ordered wine flights so we had a huge variety to share and compare. I brought a small cooler with hummus and Triscuits. But I was told outdoor food was not permitted. The server made a remark to just keep the food out of sight? It was extremely confusing as the table next to us was eating Tostitos and dip! Mom ordered two dishes to share family style. The spinach and cream cheese dip with chips and a side watermelon was so savory. Gram bought a Spinach dip to go from the fridge located in the reception. The Chorizo board was served with two portions of cheese and crackers, also delicious. My sister and I placed an order of nine bottles to go. The wine was so top notch I can see myself returning for wine to go, perhaps not a sit down wine tasting reservations until the kinks are smoothed out. read more

If you're looking for a good spot to sit outside, drink a glass of wine, and take in the view this is a great place. Onto the next most important part of a winery, the wine of course! McGregor has many unique varieties that cannot be found at any of the other vineyards surrounding the lake. I highly recommend going here if you're looking for something unique. In addition to the fun options, the tastings come with benefits too! Absolutely love everything about McGregor's! I've tried to write this review a couple of different times but there's just oh so much I want to cover it gets rather long. I'm going to try this in bullet form with key words to start so hopefully this review or parts is actually helpful to someone. -WINES: Of course I've got to start here. There's a nice array of variety here whether you're looking for a white or red, still or sparkling, a glass on a nice summer day or something to get you through winter. Prices range from about $10 to $60 a bottle for their main selections. In addition there is a large library selection of higher priced wines of older vintages. I'm not going to go into each one but on the whole sail McGregor's has an excellent lineup and you can't go wrong with a tasting here. I do love most of their wines but my personal favorites, no matter the vintage, are Black Russian Red (duh), Cabernet Sauvignon and the Rkatsiteli. Oh and there's also the Rieslings, and the Pinot Noir.....the Cabernet Franc! Ok I'm stopping now but I think you get my point here McGregor Vineyard=Amazing Wine. -ATMOSPHERE: The view is one of the best you are going to get. It overlooks Kueka lake and is just breathtaking in fall. So after you pick your wine of choice buy a bottle and take a seat out on their patio to enjoy. The tasting room is definitely my style. Rustic with wood picnic tables, large windows to let in the natural sunlight and lights strung up on the beams overhead. The staff is always friendly and I do feel like I get the same treatment as everyone else there. This is actually a big thing for me at a winery because I look very young for my age (i know whoa is me) and some places I have been I don't feel like I get the same attention as customers that look older then myself. But not here! The whole atmosphere lends itself to a more relaxed tasting experience from the decor to the staff to the fact you're sitting down at a table for the tasting instead of standing at a counter. And dogs are welcome! -TASTINGS: They've recently increased the tasting price from $5 to $10, which is a bit higher then other wineries in the area. However I always thought the initial $5 fee was a little low as unlike many other tastings, you get a snack plate with crackers, chocolate, and pesto. I believe the increase in price is due to an increase in the quality of their glasses you take home, but don't quote me on that. So you get 5 tastings, a snack plate and a glass for $10. -WINE CLUB: I've been a wine club member for a few years now and I think it is a great deal if you enjoy the wines here. Every other month you get two wines at 25% off. In addition to the two feature wines there's a list of other wines you can add to your order at a discount. This can be shipped to you or picked up. There's always some sort of discount even not during these times. In addition you get free tastings at the winery, opportunities to get some of their wine before and at a lower cost then the public and discounts on their special events. -BARREL TASTINGS: I was living in MN for a while there and have only recently moved back to NY so I have only been able to attend one of these and I refuse to miss another. I went to the red barrel tasting in November (There is a white tasting in spring as well) and had a great time. You're walked through about 8 wines in their barrel storage room. The care and passion displayed when describing the wines and the making process is wonderful to hear. All of these are available at a steep discount. You can pay half at the time of the tasting and half when the wines are ready to be picked up in a year or two. After the tasting there's food provided usually by Timber Stone Grill. It's a fun experience to try these wines while they're still developing. -TIMBER STONE GRILL: I had to put this as it's own thing because the partnership of McGregor's and Timber Stone is a stroke of genius. Every event I have seen with food is catered by Timber Stone. This is one of my favorite restaurants that always provided excellent food. McGregor wines and Timber Stone food is a match made in heaven. -ADOPT A BARREL: Full disclosure I am one of these people. This is a great program and I highly recommend doing this if you truly enjoy McGregor's wines and have the cash cause it is pricey. If you're a club member wondering if it's worth making the investment here's my thoughts on it. This program gets you 6 library selection bottles every year for 5 years, two free tickets to every barrel tasting event and a wine barrel at the end of year 5. I'm about the enter year 3 and once I get my third round of library selected wines I will, without a doubt, have gotten the value of my investment back in the wines that have been selected. This doesn't even take into account the wine barrel tasting events or the actual barrel. I believe this is an amazing deal. read more

What an awesome winery! We stopped on a rainy day and it was very cozy, warm, and welcoming. This is only winery we've ever been to where they give you a table for your tasting. It's not some small bistro table either, but a large square table with comfortable high backed benches. The tasting also comes with a small snack plate with a delicious pesto, which we bought a container of to take home. All of the servers were very friendly and they were especially kind to our dog. I love that each of the Keuka Lake wineries have their own atmosphere and flavor. Despite being up on the hill and a little removed from the lake, McGregor Vineyard Winery has views to die for. The lights hanging in the large, open, wooden barn-like tasting room was a nice, elegant use of the space. The use of bright colors gave the room an inviting warmth. Unlike a few of the other wineries on the trail, McGregor had a wide selection of jams, spreads and sauces to sample. For $5.99 a bottle and 3 for $15, I took a leap of faith in a few of their oils that weren't available for sampling. Winery pup, Max, was a nice addition to the visit. I'd buy anything that little guy would sell me. My favorite wine was the Sunflower White, but I enjoyed everything I sampled. Given the location and views I would have expected better wines but I guess the views don't translate to wines. Out of all the wines that we had tasted that day and between the 6 of us it was basically the full range of wines offered... Well may be most of them. To tell the truth I was unimpressed the Rieslings in my humble opinion lacked the subtlety of flavors and nose and the Gewurtztraminer was somewhat bitter and lacked the intensity I came to enjoy in some of the other wineries in the region but even if we give it a benefit of the doubt that 2016 was generally not a favorable year for the region it still could pull off something a little better. Hopefully this years grapes would be better. The Black Russian (Georgian and Moldovan/Romanian growers would probably have hissy fit at the name) but the wine is solid though not of the 2016 harvest and I honestly don't think it's worth $70 but that is just me. Service deserves a special mention given that such a large parties especially those with diverse tastes would be better served by bringing the cart full of wines to the table instead of running back and forth to grab the bottles but that's just my opinion... read more

After a long day of wine tasting on Seneca Lake we stopped at McGregors a bit after 5pm (they are open until 6!) on our way home. We liked their set-up where you sit at big tables with excellent views of Keuka Lake - no standing at a tasting bar. They serve a small plate of snacks and they bring the wines to you. Very nice and a good change of pace. All of this for $5 per tasting. The bonus was that the tasting was free with Yelp check-in. Score! We drive 5 hours to visit the wineries at Keuka as Seneca lake. We stopped by at 4:20 on a Sunday for one tasting when it was visibly not busy and was turned away. If you close at 5 why would we be turned away 40 minutes before close for one tasting? disappointed and will not be back. read more

I forgot to check in and I'm too far away.. this is my second visit. The views are great and they have outdoor seating, vineyards are all around. The inside tasting room reminds me of the north woods. All wood, soft lighting and wooden tables and chairs. They let you do about five tastings and you get to keep the glass. With your tastings you get some nibbles.. some cheese, chocolate, crackers and the famous spinach pesto dip you can buy the pesto at the vineyard get it. The staff is pleasant and knowledgeable unfortunately on this trip the knowledgeable staff member was not around the staff who was around was great about answering questions and pouring tastings. They have a specific grape they grow it's actually pretty good it's called Rktskelki or something, their rose's are easily drinkable and they also do reds which they are known for..To be frank this is my second visit and I was not wowed by their wines they have things that all will enjoy but I've never bought any of their wines... sorry kids. Nothing said "buy me" I know they are known for certain wines and yes give them a try..wine is not a snobbish thing you like what you like and that's fine. The rose' are solid and the one I can't pronounce is good too. Get the Spinach Pesto it's $6.00 and worth every penny. Give the place a shot.. it's good on a wine tour. read more

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BLACK RUSSIAN! This place was way out of the way, but we had heard great things about it from other wineries along the trail. I'm so glad we came! The tasting room was lovely - you sit at a picnic table with a beautiful view, and the wine is brought to you - along with a lot of history and information. You also get a little plate of goodies to have with the wine. if you buy more than $30 worth of wine (and you probably will), then the tasting fee is waived. If you don't, you still get a free glass so it's totally worth it. The folks at McGregor focus on the drier style wines, and are famously known for their "Black Russian" which is made from a grape varietal that I can't remember, but if my memory is correct, this is one of only a couple of places in the country that grows this type of grape. The result is a very dry wine that is so dark it's almost black. It's best when it's been aged at least 5 years. We took home a couple of these! The other wines we tried were also quite good. We were told that the majority of their sales come from tasting club members, who have the opportunity to taste wine as it's going through process of being made - club members can buy "futures" on the wine if they think it's going to come out well. Cool! The prices were higher here than at other wineries, but this place also has more of a boutique style and following. We're definitely planning to age our Black Russians - and will definitely come back here again! read more

I have been a Clan member at McGregor for almost 10 years, and have never been disappointed with their wines. Their dry reds are incredible, but don't ignore the whites. They do not have a lot of sweet wine at all. The Winery is higher up than most of the wineries on Keuka, and hence has an incredible view of the lake and the bluff. It also tends to get less traffic than those right on Rte 54. Their tasting room and deck are great places to have a glass (or two!). Their staff is excellent, and really takes their time to get to know you. As a member, we have partaken in many of their events. Both white and Red wine barrel tastings, where you taste the wine prior to bottling, and have the option to order your "wine futures", as well as their Clan Club picnic. read more

For more than four years, my family and I have enjoyed McGregor's - both in person and the Wine Club via mail - THAT is how much we enjoy their wines. Granted, our house drinks a lot more red than white, but all of their products are delicious - from the wine to the various food items. If you don't live in the area, I highly recommend the Wine Club. We all use the internet for various things, but from my experience there is virtually no group or company that is more helpful & flexible when it comes to ordering via the internet.
