Truck and Menu

Cheers to this truck for being in a tough area! Right off Burnside in a "park" that scares off most, you will probably take your food to go. The service is quick and the staff are friendly. $13 for the "taco plate" with 4 tacos filled with your choice of meat. I chose Al pastor for all 4, but I imagine you can mix it up. They don't skimp on cilantro, which I appreciate. It came with some grilled peppers, which I didn't eat much. Overall, pretty decent tacos.

We hadn't been to Kim Jong since they moved to Cartblocks so we decided to check them out. Now, I love KJG, but they were out of almost everything by the time we got there. My husband got something there, but I meandered on over to this cart. I love tortas so much, but I recently have been liking birria too. It can be hard to choose between the two. I had not heard of this cart before, so I decided to check out the menu... sweet swirling asparagus tips!! They have a birria torta! It's like a flipping French dip but with a delicious torta instead. I immediately ordered it. It came with hot sauce and consommé. I couldn't wait to get home to try it. It was amazing!!! So delicious. Absolutely a new fave. I can't wait to go back. So many good carts in this pod!!

Clean, fast, tasty. And they have proper veggie tacos, which tasted great. Chorizo was delicious too. Chicken could be more grilled though. This is inside The Cart Blocks square. There's some shared covered seating in the square. And ample street parking in the 1-2 blocks surrounding it.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN PORTLAND Try the birria and horchata! Amazing so delicious and rich flavors! I took one pic of the place and made it look so beautiful! I took a pic of the yummy Birrias and the sauce too! Delicious! But I also got a giant burrito with chicken and shrimp! The quality of the burrito was way beyond a traditional restaurant! I could taste every seasoning it was yummy! The people who work here are so welcoming and queer friendly! I just moved here from California and had Mexican food a lot and this Mexican food is the BEST and worth the extra drive since I moved to Vancouver Washington! They will be seeing a lot me! I will try everything on the menu! They are worth it! Beef Birria

Angel Burrito Bowl with Marinated Pork and Pineapple

Absolutely fantastic service and even better food! I had a burrito and my friend had a bowl. The flavors were immaculate, the meat was cooked well, and all at a reasonable price! I think if I was on death row I'd want this to be my last meal.

The food was delicious. Decided to stop here for breakfast after waking around downtown. We got the breakfast carna asada burrito and carna asada/chorizo bowl. Both were filling and great. For drinks, we got the strawberry horchata (highly recommend) and a lemonade agua fresca. Definitely worth a stop if you are around downtown. This was a 5-7 min walk from Powell's City of books.

Simple yet tasty tacos amidst a row of food carts. A great snack to grab while roaming the city on foot. The service was friendly and quick!

Chicken torta!

I've been here at least three different times and this ordered three different items, and the only item I've liked were the quesadillas. The rest of the food I ordered (a chicken burrito and chicken torta) was flavorless, which is a shame because it looked really really good. I never thought I'd complain about the lack of seasonings at an authentic Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately I've discovered that such a thing exists. Ordered: Chicken Torta Deluxe-- This is a classic Mexican spin on the sandwich, with eggs, beans, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and chicken added all on toasted bread. Though the toasted bread was pretty delicious and flavorful, the rest of the sandwich really lacked any sort of taste. It really needed seasoning and the salsa didn't help at all. Service: Great, they've been very pleasant people to deal with during every visit. Wait Time: 5 minutes. Bill: $

Chicken Fajitas were good but, it's a different taste from other places I've had it (my love enjoyed it he said it had a very authentic flavor). Rice (fluffy) and Beans (well seasoned) both were really delicious. Service~Pearlina was super sweet, knew the menu very well and, had exceptional service. She made sure we had everything we needed and, continue to check on us throughout our meal. Ambiance~It's has a very calming vibe and atmosphere. I love the fact they have a privacy strip on the windows (so no one walking by watches you eat). It's a family owned restaurant and, I would recommend giving them a try. Both the fish and the prawns were cooked in a red sauce that was delicious! I meant to ask for blue corn tortillas but was so excited to find shrimp & fish tacos that weren't deep-fried that I forgot to ask for them. The regular corn tortillas were excellent, though, so it was not a bad mistake to make. I also had jamaica to drink and let me tell you... it was not made from a mix! It was dark, thirst-quenching, and perfectly made. Most jamaica is super sweet - this was not! I love the flavor of real hibiscus and this did not disappoint. My friends had chile relleno bowls and birria tacos, all of which was excellent. Their watermelon margaritas were tasty and refreshing! Our orders were taken by a helpful person at the cash register and the food was served quickly by a friendly server. The inside and outside areas were clean and tidy, with plenty of seating available at the outside tables. The outdoor seating area is under cover making it a good choice for both summer & winter dining. Definitely going on my "have to go back and try something else" list!

I love that they offer a vegetarian option for the tasting menu and I expect no less from Portland. Every dish seemed like it was designed with so much care and is meant to elevate traditional ingredients without being too pretentious. I still remember the tetela and huarache...and also the arroz and frijole and so much more. My partner had his favorites as well. My only critique is I wish dessert (flan) was lighter but it could just have been us since we don't typically eat/enjoy flan. However I do like that it's not so sweet. Space-wise the restaurant is large and beautifully moody with light coming in from the windows during the morning. We were the only ones dining at 10am and it got busier around 11am. We decided to do the $45 lunch deal where we let them feed us and basically got a 10 course lunch (totally worth it)! Since we tried so many things, some courses were a miss and some were a big hit. It was really fun! Some of my favorites were the arroz con frijoles, yes the rice and beans! They are so flavorful and served with house made tortillas. I think my favorite thing was the tostada topped with white beans, cabbage, and roasted corn - insane! I also loved the Huarache with adobo squash and I'm not normally into smokey things, but everything just worked together. I wasn't the biggest fan of one of the moles we were served, but there was a sweeter one that was paired with eggplant that I couldn't stop eating. We ended the meal with 2 desserts and 1 came with a candle for our friend, which is always such a lovely gesture. The fried concha was incredible!! GET IT! Ours had ground cherries and a lime whipped cream and I would come back just for that. This is definitely a spot that's worth the tasting menu! There are so many flavors to explore you will want to try everything!

Inside is my favorite spot - the light is good, everything is nice, and it stays cooler in the hot months (won't everything be the hot months soon?). My friend loves eating outside - those adjustable, wall-mounted tables are great. I have only had four items from their menu: the bean torta (the first thing I bought and took to eat with a friend - so long ago I remember nothing!), the tostada (nothing that stands out, but definitely fresh), the burger (I got it without ham and it blew my mind!), and the Cart Bowl. Reader, there is something about that bowl that makes it almost impossible to order something else. I did those two times, but once I had tasted the Cart Bowl with their chicken and avocado, it was game over. For a while (3 years?), I came here with a friend every Thursday evening. Every Thursday I had the bowl. I never got tired of it. The way they cook their meat, the flavors of all the ingredients when combined, always tastes perfect. I have had their margaritas. They are really delicious!! They also have bottle and tap beer options. I usually come during the day, so try to resist the margarita (margarita = mid-day nap time), but I look at other people's longingly. It is first come, first seated.
