It's $2 to walk out on the pier ("Sightseeing", per the sign) but it's worth it. It's a beautiful view! Today was incredibly windy - so bad that I had trouble holding my binoculars in place while looking for birds. But I was able to log 9 bird species while there, just watching them fly by and/or on the beach. There are benches for sitting, but they did have the end of the pier blocked off. See other reviewers for speculation on why. There's also a pretty popular Farmer's Market that sets up every Wednesday in the parking lot in front of the pier. It's popular enough that we witnessed traffic bottleneck there, so be mindful of that.

My friend picked me up at the Publix parking lot (far left of the lot if facing the store) where I left my car as I don't have 4-wheel drive and you MUST have 4-wheel drive to get on the beach. We pulled on to the beach and went to the left to meet up with other Ravens fans. We had a great time! The beach was clean and packed. But there was plenty of space for everyone. We were able to change easily into our bathing suits to go swim at the beach and my friend was even able to buy a bikini from the store since she forgot one - so convenient! The beach is beautiful and the water is stunning, be prepared to walk across a lot of sand to get to the water part. After swimming, we went to get some ice cream from the shop, and I got a root beer float, which was good. Overall, such a nice time!

The hubs & I first purchased our 4x4 vehicle permit at Vilano Beach, expecting miles & miles of sand to tear up.. we were met with less than a mile stretch of beach which was popular for fishing but not for off-roading or sun bathing. The attendant was nice enough to recommend we head to Anastasia Island which was a God send. The permit which cost $10 was good at any St. John's county beach access for the day. We stumbled upon Crescent Beach (on A Island) & conveniently found Barney's Beach Service 904-461-1422 and rented out an umbrella and 2 chairs ($50 from 10-4pm) The weather was perfect: a couple clouds spread across the sky, a cool 77 degree water temperature made it all the more easier to bask in the sun. And the sand was off white & powdery to the touch. I couldn't help but notice how peaceful the atmosphere was here. This trip ended up being just what the doctor ordered.

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The beach is soft sand and easy to walk on. There are many people walking on the beach in the morning. Some are also on bicycles. The view is great. Thete are many restaurants, shops, gas stations, hotels, drug stores, and bars. It's a mini-city. It's a lot more quiet than St. Augustine.
