Another one of the places I had for lunch while in Boston. My co-workers all said they got the best sandwiches and of course, I had to give them a try. We walked from our office and ordered our food to go since the place is too small for all of us to sit down and eat. We placed our orders and can actually see our food orders while they are preparing them. Many people had either the chicken parmesan or the meatball sandwiches, so I thought I can't go wrong with either one. I eventually needed up go with the chicken. The sandwich tasted okay. Not the best chicken parmesan I ever had, but it's decent enough for under ten bucks. It still sounded a little pricy for me, but we are in the middle of downtown Boston so I guess it's reasonable in the area. If Viga was running the famous breadlines in the U.S. after the Great Depression there would have been no actual "line" to speak of, this place is insanely efficient. It felt liked seconds, not minutes, after I placed my order I was paying for it at the counter, and this was after watching 5 people in front of me do the exact same thing in almost no time at all. The food here is pretty basic Italian sandwiches, pasta and pizza for the most part, but if you're in a rush at lunch it sure beats the hell out of traditional fast food, with probably even quicker service. As a result, this can get somewhat messy, so grab a handful of napkins and be careful if you're wearing white, as you're likely to have some splatter damage. Viga is open for breakfast. The beauty of this is if you want a sandwich for breakfast they will take care of you. The home fries are out of this world! You get wonderful cubes of potatoes that are cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and tender inside. This morning I tried the Treviso. Which is a chicken wrap that has an absolutely amazing pesto. An that's coming from a pesto snob. And I'm not sure where the chicken is in their weekly special chicken lasagna - the small cubes of protein sort of get lost in the ricotta and sauce. I love their bread despite the oils easily seeping through the papersack. It comes in white or wheat - I prefer the white. They have a few tables if you want to eat in, but they do mostly a brisk take-out business. There is a frequent diner card where you receive $3 off on your 6th visit (with a $3 minimum purchase per visit) and $5 off on your 12th visit. This location is a stand alone, and is not related to the other Viga locations at Federal Street, in Pi Alley and on the corner at Stuart Street. Definitely a lunch fan!! My coworker and I were in town for a client meeting and wanted something quick to grab to alleviate our rumbling bellies..and we were recommended to Viga! I ordered the Naples Salad Wrap and my coworker ordered the buffalo wrap. Both were really good and super filling! Buffalo Wrap - My coworker had literally been raving about this buffalo bleu cheese sandwich he always gets in Jersey, so he was already craving buffalo something. Of COURSE, Viga would then carry a hot buffalo wrap. He was skeptical about the taste, but was really surprised with how well they carried out their chicken prep. Super moist and yummy, he was really happy with the purchase. Naples Wrap - My wrap was a cold wrap..and again, I worried about the chicken. The Naples Salad was pretty good! Lots of mayo and shredded thin like tuna..I really liked it. Chicken salad is hard to pull off when you have giant chunks of chicken, so I definitely appreciated them simplifying it. The grapes inside were little bursts of sweet/tart that really added another dimension to the wrap. Overall, I really enjoyed the food here. Viga has been a recent discovery a mine that has quickly turned into an addiction. With affordable options and quick service, Viga offers everything from sandwiches and salads, to pasta, pizza and specials. They frequently rotate their options and most items are under $8. They even have lunch combos available to patrons. I'm particularly fond of any of their sandwiches and wraps which feature their delicious, rich pesto sauce. The one I most frequently get is their Treviso ($6.59) which is a grilled chicken breast, pesto sauce, provolone, rice and tomatoes in a spinach wrap. Filling and pretty darn tasty to boot. I've never really had an issue with their service which is always very quick and never seems to get fazed by the lines. The place is pretty small though and does get pretty cramped. Occasionally there is some line confusion too but nothing too serious. On my agenda: to try their pizzas which I heard are awesome (and giant!). I haven't had their salads yet either and plan on doing so. So far the sandwiches and wraps have kept me happy and coming back though. They're super fresh & not overcooked or undercooked. If Viga open on nights & weekends...I'd be ordering it over Upper Crust or any other pizzeria any day/night/weekend! If I place a catering order for my office & people know in advance that i'm ordering from Viga...the initial reaction is "YESS! i LOVE Viga!". I think Viga might have to be held responsible for my needing and subsequently attending Weight Watchers last year. My office had catering daily and Viga was usually the caterer of choice, and their sandwiches are heavenly. Even for someone like me, who has to avoid a lot of stuff that usually goes in sandwiches. This place is awesome. The food tastes so fresh, and they know exactly how to combine ingredients. My sandwich of choice is the basilcata with chicken. Their focaccia bread is incredible, and so is their pesto spread. I've also had their sausage and sweet onion calzone, and it is enormous. Even though i can easily make 2 meals out of it, its so hard to stop eating it cuz its so good. They know exactly the right amount of meat to put in there without going overboard. The prices are really good (sandwiches are under $6, calzones are under $5, slices of pizza as cheap as $2). They also have fresh rolls for $0.25 at the register, which are also fantastic. I've been going there at least 2 times a week since January, and I will never get sick of it. I believe they also cater if you have a large group. read more

Pizza: 4/5 Pasta: 4.5/5 (notched it up a little because of the cheap prices) Salads: 4/5 (surprisingly fresh for being pre-made) Their bread, which comes with pretty much anything you buy, is AMAZING. Ordered the chicken parm under the "hot sandwich" category. I picked up right when it came out. The sandwich was the opposite of hot. Chicken was cold, cheese not melted and bread was a little soggy. I would expect there to be at least some crisp in the chicken, but nope! I get there's marinara sauce on it that would potentially make it soggy but the sauce was cold too. Ooooh, so good and nicely priced...not cheap like LA but probably as good as it gets in Bastin, as the locals say. I am really surprised to see this place rated so highly. The food tastes cheap and is mostly pre-made and cafeteria style. The bread is great but the chicken cutlets are greasy and the pasta sauce tastes like it has been sitting out for hours. The place is a mad house during lunch time and you really have to squeeze in there. My office has been using Viga to cater lunches for 60+. We love the quality, the value, and the variety. Their online order form makes ordering from them easy. And Priscilla, their Catering Manager, follows up after every order and delivery to make sure everything is all set. We have ordered a "basic" pasta lunch from them: chicken and broccoli in Alfredo sauce (lots of juicy chunks of chicken, delicious broccoli, perfectly cooked pasta); stuffed shells (a huge fave of my office); various salads (always perfectly fresh and crisp; the Campo with its creamy goat cheese is my personal favorite). We worked with them to create a build-your-own salad bar as a "healthier" option and it has been a huge hit. It took some tweaking to get amounts right, but now I think we know what my office likes: various greens; platters of fresh and roasted vegetables; yummy protein like bacon, chicken, tofu, and tuna salad; bowls of freshly shredded cheese, olives, and croutons. We have had platters of their hearty and delicious calzones with the fillings always perfectly cooked and ample. Of special note: Their dinner rolls are to-die-for. I could eat them with a bit of their balsamic dressing as a meal unto itself. Also, their tiny cannolis are the first thing people zoom in for at the dessert end of the table. Viga has happily accommodated my requests for dairy-free and vegetarian options. We use them more than any other local caterer and have never been disappointed by their food. I have never been inside one of their locations, but I have my fingers crossed that they will eventually 1) offer lunchtime delivery for small, individual orders and 2) extend their catering delivery hours to include weeknight evenings and weekends. read more

Initially, I was going to get the baked ziti (small was only $3.65) but it didn't look as good once I got in. The store is very small and the lines are long, but they get you in and out. I changed my mind to stuffed shells and I was disappointed when the server gave me two that didn't have a lot of cheese. I've gone back to get the stuffed shells twice now and I love it. This place was SO good that I joined Yelp. I've been using this site for years but didn't feel the need to join until my co-worker, seeing how hungover I was from being at Fenway last night, insisted I go to Viga down the street for a pizza or calzone. I walk in, prepared for a rush, but they move through people so quickly that it didn't matter. I see the special - chicken parm calzone - and think I'll give a shot. It takes a little longer because they made it fresh and right there but it was worth the wait and you can't beat people watching when people are so consumed with there blackberry that they're literally running into each other. Needless to say, I enjoyed my time there. It was odd, the sauce comes seperate? But I ended up loving that. It was not messy and absolutely 110% delicious. Highly recommend! Great dough, great chicken, good sauce. But I will say it was MASSIVE (looks are decieving). Staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations for next time, I will be back next week. But every time I go back there for a sandwich I always ask myself why I don't go more often. All of their signature hot and cold sandwiches are good, but I find myself always getting either the grilled chicken or chicken club. Their focaccia bread for their sandwiches is always fresh. They pack a huge amount of meat and veggies into each sandwich, and everyone working there is overly nice and is smiling. I need to remember to go to Viga more often. read more

Great spot for lunch in downtown Boston. Service is lightning fast and the checkout staff is very friendly. Salads are pre-made, but pretty fresh, the pizza is decent, and their sandwiches are very very good. It's essentially a good-but-not-great version of the average sandwich shop built for lunch, except they make the whole experience a pleasant experience. I'm especially fond of their BBQ chicken sandwich and the Thai peanut-chicken wrap special. Honey-wheat wrap? Yes, please. Keep an eye out for interesting and tasty sandwich specials since they rotate every day, and be sure to pick up a Viga card if you decide to eat there again. Y-U-M, YUM! I bring lunch to work usually 3-4 days a week, and the reason I don't bring it all five is so that I can get lunch at this place. Call them and see if they have the Ortaggio sandwich on the specials today, and then plan time to take a long lunch and savor every bite. When I don't get the Ortaggio sandwich, I get penne with a meatball or the pesto linguine (one of the Tuesday past specials).
