Dr. Yee is great! She is very knowledgeable and makes me feel comfortable. My mom sees Dr. Jue and likes him. Unlike some other reviewers, I've never had problems with the staff. I just had an annual exam on Friday after being away for several years, so perhaps there's new staff and/or they toned down their dress. The only down side is that the exam is a bit pricey in the low $100's. When I lived in DC, I went to Lenscrafters and I don't think I paid more than $50 for an annual exam. However, I like Dr. Yee MUCH better than some of the doctors at Lenscrafters. Also, some of the staff at Lenscrafters were not very nice but the two staff members I encountered at Viewpoint were the opposite. So I suppose you get what you pay for. That said, I'll be back next year for my annual exam! read more

Really weird about customer service here. I recently moved to the area from out of state and was an exam patient in December. I paid for the contact lens fitting and since the prescription didn't change I was told I wouldn't get a new pair contacts. Interesting because I've been wearing these lenses for 20+ years and every year other doctors gave me a pair as part of the exam. When I went to pay the fee for the lens fitting, I was alerted to the processing fee for credit cards (I think 5%?) that would be added. Since I didn't know this I didn't bring cash. Today I stopped by to get a pair of sunglasses tightened and a screw replaced that fell out and even as a patient was charged $20 for this service because they weren't bought there. It took her less than 3 minutes to do the repair and was absolutely shocked the fee was so high. I would not have gone here had I known but at this point I needed my glasses back. At least I had $20 in cash to avoid their processing fee. I have had much better service with practices I was loyal to but now I will be looking for a new optometrist. read more

I'm really really really trying to support local businesses. First let me say, the Doctor is great. Very knowledgeable, easy to talk to and had me in and out with ease. Like most offices, it's the operational side of things that causes issue. It's really hard to get in contact with someone there unless you walk in. It took almost two months to receive my glasses back after my initial appointment. Once you call in, expect a 48 to 72 hour call back for an update on where the glasses are. I've been trying to get my prescription for almost 3 weeks now. Their callback hours are also not normal. 6:30/7pm call backs are tinkering into a no call timezone. I am sure if they can get their operational processes down, this could be a gem in the community but the calling and such with no follow up is not okay. read more

I showed up for my appointment this morning and they claimed my appointment was yesterday and would not see me at the appointed time. After making me wait for this appointment for a long time, they completely wasted my time by mistaking my appointment and failing to see me. I visited the store in person and entered the exact appointment that they gave me in my calendar at the same time they provided it. I wanted to give this place a chance since I live in the neighborhood, but that did not work out. read more

I can't speak about the doctors, themselves, because I have an optometrist at a different office. My advice to the doctors who own this practice is to find different office staff fast. I bought my frames here, so I can comment on my experience with the front-of-house office staff. One reviewer commented that they are young and hip. I would add inexperienced and unprofessional to the list of adjectives. I was told to pick up my frames anytime except between 12 and 1pm when staff are on lunch break. I made a special 30 minute trip out to pick up the frames. I arrive at a11:45. The office is already closed; the lights are off and a sign on the door reads back at 2pm. What business takes a 2+ hour lunch break? Needless to say, I will never do business here again. I have better ways to spend my time then chasing down the staff. read more

My experience at Viewpoint was phenomenal! I had been going to the same optometrist in SF for over 10 years and decided in 2013 it was time for a change. The entire process from making an appointment - to getting a top-notch eye exam to receiving my new glasses and contact lenses was quick, fun, and effortless. The staff working at Viewpoint were attentive and very helpful in guiding me through the process. Perhaps, since I am not demanding, full of self-importance, or possess a ridiculous sense of self-entitlement the experience was one of mutual respect. In response to those with negative remarks: maybe it is you? Or, maybe a case of misdirected disappointment? I recently returned (January 2014) and selected new eye wear, and contact lenses and the service was again INCREDIBLE. read more

I get the best sunglasses from this place.They always have the best selection on a count of that their staff is pretty young and up to date on what's in and what's out. I had been looking for a specific pair of Ray Bans sunglasses I just couldn't find anywhere else. I checked out this place and was bummed that they didn't have them but there was a really nice receptionist that said they could be ordered and about week or two later they came in. They're now my favorite pair of shades I always get compliments on them.They make it really comfortable and convenient to go in and look around, it's a really great atmosphere! read more

Absolutely top-notch. Dr. Jue and his associates are professional, courteous and very competent. The eye docs are all great, and the selection of frames is amazing. Every time I've needed assistance with insurance billing, frame selection and/or ordering, contacts, bifocals and anything else, the group at Viewpoint is superb. Viewpoint is the only place I will utilize for eye exams, and purchasing and/or repairing my glasses (even if it means paying more and going out of my insurance's network). Dr. Jue (who likes to be called Rich Jue; which is amazing when said out loud), and Dr. Yee are fabulous eye doctors who have treated me since I was 12 years old. the staff was rude and condescending, it appeared that I was inconveniencing them by the way they acted and responded to me. they did not reply to phone calls, did not answer the phones, and when I left work early, drudged thru traffic to get to the place before they closed, there was a hand written sign that they closed early. At the very least, they should have left a voice mail message stating that they were closing early!! When i complained to Richard Jue about their non-responsiveness, he merely stated a half hearted apology and was dismissive. he didn't seem interested nor concerned. it appeared that the job requirement is to were lots of make up, be large breasted and wear revealing clothing. It was very unprofessional and horrible customer service. the only people that would appreciate this place are male because the staff perked up when men entered the store. read more

Dr. Jue performed a complete exam and did a great job. The problem I have is with his staff. The staff is completely clueless, getting answers about my new lenses and frames is like pulling teeth. No customer service what so ever. I agree with a previous review "inexperienced and unprofessional". I've been coming here for years. First as a parent of a child receiving optometrist services and then as a client just filling glasses prescriptions. They have the best customer service; Araceli is the bomb technician, and their lab is the best. I can get their lab to fill designer frames that other places won't touch. Dr. Jue has not idea what he is doing. I went to him after I moved to Oakland and needed to find a new optometrist. He changed my prescription drastically. Then I could no longer see. My glasses tended to sit on top of my head because when I upt them on I felt I was going cross eyed because my eyes were straining so much to try to focus. When I went back again he said it was the proper prescription. Finally went to a different optometrist. She was amazing! She spent 45 min with me. Unlike the quick drive by provided by Dr. Jue. She had glasses could try on with the prescription she was recommending to see if I was comfortable. She also fitted me for contacts. She has you come back after a 2 week trial period to check if they are fitting properly. Dr. Jue just handed me packets and sent me out the door. No follow up unless I called with difficulties. She also wanted to try monovison contacts. She tested to see my dominant eye and provided good instruction on which eye to keep the contact in. It had not worked before when Dr Jue tried. That's because he randomly chose which contact to keep in and which to take out. It was the opposite eye my new optometrist told me to put the contact in. In addition to his professional abilities, his office staff is horrible. Stay away from this place unless you want to be abused and then blind as a bat. :( read more

Dr. Yee is the best! I often have a hard time with the pressure test, and I never do the eye test with my eyes dilated (after an awful experiences years back with another doctor). Dr. Yee made me feel very comfortable, and she took extra good care of my eyes, checking things twice when need be just to be on the safe side. Because I trusted her I came back for the dilation too! I appreciate her conscientious care, and I will definitely be back to be seen by her. read more

I love Dr Yee and her knowledge and service are fantastic. She has not only fit me for daily wear contact lenses, but also with progressive lenses. The staff is courteous when approached with questions , but they do not return calls in a timely manner when messages are left. Not to mention, time after time I have been taken aback by their extreme dress habits. They often look like they are going out for a night on the town. What they wear is completely inappropriate for an office that is greeting the pubic and every time I have visited I contemplate writing a letter to Dr Jue about their atrocious attire. read more

This is my first ever Yelp review, however, I have consistently had great experiences at Viewpoint so I felt compelled to write this review of my experiences. I have been a patient of Dr Jue's for four years now having my eyes checked once a year. Dr Jue is very charming and extremely knowledgeable. He has a way of making one feel completely relaxed and comfortable during a thorough eye examination. His staff is also charming and wonderful, I have worked with all of them over the years. They are very experienced and also have quite the eye for fashion, current eyeware trends and they always help me to pick the perfect frames. The first two years I went to Dr Jue's office, I shopped around for frames after my exam, however, I do not need to do that anymore because I have learned they have the best selection of frames in Oakland. I have also seen some of the same frames in different offices at a higher prices. My last visit a couple weeks ago I chose a frame from one of their newest collections, Ferragamo. I have had at least a dozen people telling me how great I look in my new glasses, which always helps one feel great. This last visit was also my first time for getting progressive lenses; now that I'm getting older I need glasses for distance and reading. I was a little nervous because I have heard they could take up to two weeks to get use to. Well I love them and don't know how I lived with out them until now. Adriana took the measurements/made the dots on the lenses and they turned out perfect... my eyes adjusted to them in just a day. Dr. Jue is very thorough and is up to date in his field. Appointments are easy to get, with little wait time. The staff are extraordinarily helpful in assisting with selection of frames that look attractive--a real plus. There is a very wide selection of frames to choose from, and many "designer" brands. I usually ask them for a selection of frames that don't require me to second mortgage my home, and they are very accommodating! Friendly, upbeat atmosphere. They'll even give you quarters to feed your meter if it runs out. Highly recommended. read more

The staff is helpful and flexible, even hooking me up with samples when my disposable contacts were out of stock. Their selection of frames is surprising hip for Montclair or even for Oakland in general. Their office is bright with natural light, nicely designed and feels like a comfortable place to not just to have your vision attended to, but also to shop for nice, high-end frames. read more

Viewpoint and Dr. Jue are great. I have been going there for 12 years and each time i go i get a great checkup (fast and easy) and confidence that they know what they are doing. Dr. Jue and his staff have all the latest 'gear' to do a complete exam and do so explaining things as they go. I've been going to viewpoint for 4 years now. I've never had any problems. I had never been able to wear contacts and after several optometrists, Dr. Jue was the first to find contacts that worked for me. Very very happy about that. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm rough on my glasses and they're always willing to fix them. Also, they let me bring my dog in when I stopped in to get my glasses fixed. I love that. I don't know why this place is rated so low... The numerous filtered 4 and 5 star reviews seem to do a better job reflecting my experience with Viewpoint than the ones yelp is choosing to show. I have been going to Viewpoint and seeing Dr. Yee for about 10 years. Dr. Yee is also my husband's and daughter's optometrist. She is an excellent clinician, and I would highly recommend her. She is extremely thorough. The shop has a nice selection of frames. I've never had any trouble with insurance billing. My contact orders always arrive in a reasonable time-frame. My complaint is with the office staff. While quite friendly and knowledgeable, the way they dress is inappropriate. Most of the time, they look like they are ready to go out clubbing. I guess if you are a horny guy (or gal) this is the place for you. Also the office seems to close whenever they feel like it. I recently learned that my four-year-old son needs glasses. Since my kids and I are in this area multiple times a week for smoothies, burritos, froyo, etc. (sounds like I have more reviews to write.. :)), it was natural for us to pop into this store first to look at frames (we did not visit the doctors here). No one was in the store when we arrived, or, for that matter, the whole time we were there. The two women behind the desk didn't even bother to look up when we walked in, let alone offer a simple "hello". So, I got the attention of one of them to ask if they sell children's frames. They do. She pointed me to the display area. That was it. No offer to help, no questions about what we were looking for, no suggestions or information. I wanted to know the cost of one pair of frames and if they accepted my insurance plan. The woman told me the price, and said "yes we do." I can't say the staff was rude, just completely indifferent. They didn't seem to mind that my 18 month-old daughter carried around their display stuffed animal the whole time we were there... or maybe they just didn't notice? Five minutes later I bought my son's frames from the place around the corner. read more

How incompetent can one business be? I paid a lot (even though I used my Vision Service Plan) for a pair of glasses. I ordered photochromatic bifocals. When the glasses arrived, they were not photochromatic. Brought them back, told them I wanted single vision photochromatic. Go to pick them up again, taking time away from work and paying $2 for a Montclair parking meter. This time, they're bifocals, after I very specifically ordered single vision. I can't wait to see what they screw up the third time around. This place clearly hires its young, female employees on their looks. Do us all a favor. Go for competence. read more

I think Dr. Jue is wonderful and the frame selection top notch. My biggest problem is the inappropriate clothes the staff wears. It is over the top provocative and makes me very uncomfortable. I am beyond paranoid of the eye doctor. I do not want to hear I'm going blind or I'm overusing my contacts... You know. I avoided the eye doctor for 4-5 years, but finally gave in because I could tell my prescription had changed. Doctor Jue was amazing. I told him right off the bat about how I felt being there and I wanted to get out as soon as possible. He was still super thorough. I actually felt comfortable asking him questions and not rushing him to get me out. He said I have really healthy eyes and said he gave me better than 20/20 vision. He explained how that works, but he lost me at numbers. When we came outside I asked for help picking glasses. I wear contacts mainly so I just wanted something simple and durable. The ladies picked something out for me in, like, 30 seconds, and it was perfect. I love my glasses. I also had a bunch of questions about contacts, like which are the best, most comfortable, for astigmatism, and so on. They were extremely helpful. I honestly don't worry about my eyes anymore about contact damage. They gave me peace of mind. I have since bought some sunglasses there, too. They are pricey, but completely worth it. If there is one thing you shouldn't compromise with is your vision, so I recommend this place. read more
