As soon as I saw the Zelda & Link sign in the window, I knew I was about to make some poor financial decisions--and I was totally okay with that. I came in for a hit of nostalgia and left with a mini treasure chest of childhood memories (aka Game Boy games). Scored Zelda and Super Mario World 2 like I just beat a dungeon boss. The pricing? Fair--especially for the kind of games that practically come with a side of childhood joy. The employee was like a walking strategy guide--super helpful and definitely knew his stuff. I half expected him to offer me a Master Sword for asking the right questions. The only downside? I wanted more merch! But hey, it's called Video Game Connection, not Nostalgia Overload Emporium... although, honestly, I'd shop at both. Will 100% be back next time I'm in Cleveland--with rupees in hand! read more

Holy retro gaming selection, Batman! This place is a wonderland for gamers. This weekend my man and I did some barcade-ing in Lakewood and after a few rounds of tequila, we were inspired to just build our own at home. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it) there was an Exchange two storefronts down. With some liquid encouragement, my guy and I left the store with a Retron 5, two NES controllers and four Nintendo games, but also about $300 poorer. Worth it? Yes and no. We headed home, opened up the controllers and cartridges to clean them and got to it. Overall we were satisfied, but still on the fence about how much we paid for it all... Fast forward to Saturday and to our fantastic visit to Video Game Connection. These guys know their stuff. The selection of retro games they boast will knock your socks and your face off. Some of the games are pretty hard to see from the counter, but take your time. Browse, slowly, enjoy yourself. Atari, NES, SNES, Sega--you can have whatever you like. Plus, some systems I've never heard of! We left with a mint condition Adventures of Link NES cartridge, and a similarly beautiful Minish Cap GBA cartridge. Oh, and Alien vs. Predator for the SNES, but it was a pretty gnarly copy--but it was priced accordingly. Overall, the prices, service and selection make Video Game Connection the biggest winner of the two (vs. The Exchange.) And by service, I mean every time you pick a game they clean it for you before they sell it to you. That's huge in the used game market. Plus, I loved that even rare items were priced based on their current condition. Not every game store does that.. ahem... The Exchange... cough, cough. And you can return what you buy if there is any problem with it. Guys were accommodating and friendly without being overbearing. Gamers, definitely check this place out! read more

I'll definitely shop here again. Not too many places in the area that offer such a large collection of classic games. Great staff. Only had one problem with an SNES cart I purchased and after they couldn't fix it, (the battery responsible for saving my files had leaked acid onto the actual cart's board and chips. They replaced the battery and even attempted to clean and save the cart) they had no problem refunding my money. Definitely better than Buybacks or The Exchange. By the way, the SNES cart I attempted to purchase was a mint looking copy of Chrono Trigger. Cheapest that I've ever seen it. read more

Quite possibly the best used and vintage game store in Northeast Ohio. The proprietors are key organizers of the Classic Console and Arcade Game Show, Ohio's biggest retro game event. They are knowledgeable, honest, and fair. Great service from them, always. They have been around for a long time, and know how to treat customers. A wide selection of games from classic systems both common, and obscure. Worth a visit. read more

!WOOT. A game store that I give 5 stars to. I am going to return to this store. Depending on who works there, the environment can feel kind of rough. This place deserves more customers!!! They have a ton of older generation consoles and they have new. The trade in isn't that great, but other then that, please go shop their because...and get this....THEY HAVE FAMICOM GAMES. I saw it...they keep some in a box and all the games have great prices. I saw 20 and none of them were over 10 dollars. They have imports for almost everything. I was blown away. But it seems so dark in there and like I said depending on who is working. But I have learned more about video games and I am expecting to go back. I live like 40 minutes away from the store and I don't get to make it there that often. You park in the back of the building, but it's really easy to miss. This is a game store you cannot miss. This is a great independent video game store. I love new and old gaming systems and this store has it all. I am particularly fond of NES and anything Nintendo/Mario related and this store definitely took care of my interests. They have a huge selection of NES games and well as a decent sized collection of NES games in the box. Can't wait to go back!! read more

This place is by far the best gaming store in the area. They know their stuff, and they take good care of it as well. If you need some knowledge with a friendly staff then come here. I wish I lived closer because then I would just cut eBay shopping out for games if they had them. Problem is I live about 20 minutes away and choose to eBay instead of doing a 40 minute round trip. Yes they have eBay prices, and that isn't helping them stand out too much, but they also have knowledge and good staff. Like I said if they were cheaper than eBay I would be a bit more open to driving over there, but as it stands now....I just dont think so. Why waste the gas and time when I can just get the same thing for the same price online? I don't mind waiting a few days to get my item so it don't bother me none. I wouldn't mind giving this store my support, but again that drive isn't making me want to do so. So I encourage anyone who does live in the area to stop going to gamestop or walmart for games, and support a store that actually cares about gaming. If you are into retro gaming this is the store for you! Great selection of games and systems at fair prices. The owner is a nice guy and I actually feel good about giving my business to him over larger chain stores. They know games but If you have a question and they aren't sure about a certain game they will actually look it up for you on the Internet so you can see if you would like it or not. The employees are readily available (no searching for someone to help you) and don't rush you out of the door. (The games are not in reach so you will have to ask to see the games). Every week it seems there is a new contest to win prizes in the store for high scores on a retro or arcade game (they actually do have a couple arcade games in the store to play as well). What a find! I've seen this place a number of times on Memphis avenue but never had the time to actually go in and check it out. Well, about a week or two ago I got the chance and it was pretty decent. Nothing as organized or show worthy as The Exchange but it stood on its own nonetheless. The presentation of the store is a little sloppy imo. You don't have a good sense of what you're looking at when you first pop in. You have to either look around the store for awhile or get someone to help you look for something specific. I personally like to wander around and see what I can find, but even then, games are haphazardly strewn about. There were Nintendo 64 games on at least three different walls and gamboy games in two different places. The place definitely needs a woman's touch, or at least someone with organization skills. Other then that, however, my experience there was a breeze! They have a large selection of imports as well as American games to choose from. If you're a retro gamer like myself you'll find yourself at home here. There was a cobalt gameboy advance sp I found there that was cheaper and seemed to be in better condition then the one I bought from another store of the same type. There's Atari's, Genesis', and other consoles to choose from, including newer and current gen. It's a pretty diverse place to visit if you ever get the chance. The employees are also willing to help you in a friendly and courteous manner. The only other thing I can really complain about this I recently bought a NES without the original controllers. It's just a pet peeve of mine, but I like to have original packaging and items with whatever I'm trying to buy. I had to settle for the newer, less appealing dog bone controllers instead. Secondly, when I finally sat down to play the NES, I got a weird buzzing sound from the AC adaptor for it. This maybe just because it's a cheap adapter, but I went ahead and called them anyways to see if there was anything they could do. They simply said to just bring it in and they'll take care of it! Simple as pie! All in all, I'd definitely would recommend this place to a friend. I'll be returning here pronto! read more
