This is one of those local barber shops where you feel like family. The atmosphere is chill and reminiscent of the back in the day barber shops I grew up with instead of these prima-donna barber "salons" with ring lights and black gloves. My barber is Angelo and since the first cut I got from him I've been coming back. I enjoy the personalities of a few of the other barbers too. On Thursday, March 7th, I had just left work and needed a haircut. I walked into Victorious Barber Studio and received a warm welcome and an attentive ear. Sam and Angelo were the artists available for the day, with in minutes Sam seated me in her chair and worked her magic. She was attuned to reading the room and was professionally engaging as well as funny. When hair stopped flying, scissors stopped shearing, and the buzz of the clippers silenced, she handed me the mirror and I fell in love with the end result. By FAR the worst hair cut of my life from Fernando. It cost an extra $40 to "fix" (if a fix were even possible). He... -Shaved a line when I requested a part, and trimmed some of the hair above it -Left uncut hair above my ear -Used a dull razor to shave my neck line which left red marks -Cut areas of my head to an uneven, silly-looking length -Tried to hide his poor work by putting gel on and smoothing out his mistakes And best of all, he repeatedly walked away while cutting my hair to purchase random stuff (socks, air freshener, shampoo, a jacket) from an unemployed man who came in with a suitcase selling incredibly random stuff. Also, the hair cutting equipment didn't seem to have been cleaned (everything was just thrown back into the same drawer), including the dull razor, so I'm praying I don't get an infection given how irritated my skin is. read more

Under no circumstances go here for a haircut. It was so so bad I couldn't believe my eyes, there were chunks cut out, hair sticking out everywhere. He had me facing away from the mirror the whole time so I didn't see it until the damage was done, horrific. Do NOT set foot in this establishment. I read online that it's $20 for a haircut, but i was charged $25 for a quick trim... just a quick clipper/trim job, but i guess I got the extra $5 charge for having red hair. I work in the area, but will not waste my money going there again. The extra $5 charge didn't even get me a decent haircut...now i have to go to my usual guy to fix this weird 'do. I wish I didn't have to write this review, but I think it's important to tell an honest opinion of the nightmare I experienced today. I had a client meeting around mid-day and wanted a haircut and shave beforehand. After not being able to get a haircut and shave at three other barber shops in the area, I decided to give this place a shot. My first sign of concern was when I called and the guy who picked up (which turned out to be the guy who assisted me) seemed surprised by my call as if someone calling ahead was an anomaly. I really needed a haircut though and this was my last option so I went for it. I walked in and the place wasn't well maintained, but no big deal. The barber had headphones in and was finishing up a haircut of someone before me. He was cruising along at lightning speed, paying little attention to the details of this individual's hair. The patron had literally fallen asleep so I guess it didn't matter too much. Anyways, I'm up next. I ask how long it will take for a haircut and shave. He says 12 minutes for the haircut and then some more time for a shave. Again, some more concern considering that the majority of my haircuts feel longer that 12 minutes but I proceeded anyway. He asks what kind of cut, I tell him my preferences indicating hair length and use of scissors. To that he grumbles in agreement. Throughout the whole haircut, he never once picked up scissors. He starts the haircut with clippers and basically just trims the side of my head and a bit on the top, not even touching the hair above my forehead. Halfway through, he starts to shave my face. And this is where things get concerning. He trims my stubble down and then uses another type of razor to get closer for the left side of my face. He then returns to my hair and only after that returns to my face for the shave. The word shave here is used generously. It was more a scraping. Immediately I know something is wrong. My face is on fire and I'm almost yelling out in pain. The barber continues along as if everything is normal. After minutes of painful scratching away at my face, he then goes to get a towel and shaving cream. It is at this point that I snap the first pictures of my face. The shaving cream is out and he is forced to use another type I guess. Whatever it is, he puts it on my face and then uses a straight razor which literally cuts up my skin all over my face (see photos). At this point all I want is it to be over. I can't wait to walk out. I should have just left halfway through. I'm not sure why I waited until the end. Fast-forward 5-10 riveting minutes of pain and I'm done. At the very end, without asking, he dumps what I assumed to be some sort of gel/hair product all over my head and rubs it in. Afterwards he hands me a mirror to look at my face. All I can say is "yikes". It's an incredibly awkward situation. I pay the man then scamper home, astonished of what had just transpired and literally ashamed of how I look. I didn't bother asking for my money back. I was too horrified at the mistake I just made and all I wanted to do was put this moment behind me. My face was cut and bloodied all over. Not once did the man apologize or even acknowledge what he did. To summarize, the haircut was bad, but the least of my concerns. The shave was an absolute disaster (see photos). I will never step foot in this establishment again and would advise anyone looking for a shave to steer clear. Avoid this man with the dog. See photos for evidence. read more

He cut my hair really low and left all the hair on top of my hair so much so that he couldnt even tell where he needed to even it out. I had to tell him its not even. Secondly, after cutting my hair with a pass he did not bush off his clippers and keep going, he twisted his wrist in an attempt to dump and excess hair out. Just went through the motions and took my money... Im 40 years old and have never seen such unprofessional behavior. Tried to come in on a Friday afternoon. I called and asked if they take walk-ins. Lady said yes absolutely, I asked if there was a wait right now as I was a block away. She replied there is no line at the moment. I drove the block, paid for parking (there is no free parking anywhere nearby) and went in. There was no people in line but, I was told there was also no barber either apparently she was on lunch. Made a appointment to get me haircut at 1:00 with vicki, went to the shop and 1pm comes around and shes no where to be found. Call her twice and she doesn't answer her phone, call 15 mins later and she answers only to find out shes not coming. Keep in mind you have to pay to park near the shop. so I talk to another barber there, shes with a customer and tells me it will take 45 mins. I go ahead and wait 50 mins and then she tells me its going to be an additional 30 mins. At this point I wasted 2 hours of my time, waiting for nothing. Tl;dr posted on bottom Let me start by saying this is the most highly recommended place in the east village. I recently moved here and, as I always do, I walked around to get to know my surroundings. Upon noticing the barbershop I asked a few passersby what their opinion on the place was. All positive. I noticed the place was a little filled up and decided to go to the local Vons, again asking about the shop. Again, all positive with recommendations for a man named Angelo. I returned and Angelo was on his break but there was a barber there named Bobby who had a chair available. So I sat. I asked for a simple fade and made the man aware of certain oddities in the shape of my skull and continued to have a lovely conversation. I paid $30 including tip and left the shop. When I returned home I learned Bobby's skills in the art of conversation far surpass his skills with clippers and scissors. I came home to realize that part of my hair was sticking up in the back (after I told him about that specific problem area) and that the front left area, along with the side portion of the right side of my head were not even with the rest of my head creating a kind of quasi-pompodore/layered look. Worst of all is that he messed with my widows peak after I told him not to. Not. Cool. I admit I should have noticed all of this in the shop, but every man knows that sometimes a cut from a new barber takes time to adjust and grow. So I gave it a day (a day my coworkers took to absolutely shred this shit cut) and then I went back on Friday and sat patiently and made converaation and cracked a few off-color jokes and waited my turn like everyone else. When the chair was available I went to talk to Bobby and he promptly informed me that he was all wrapped up for the day. I told him my concerns and he told me, "When it's 7 o'clock then fuck you, and fuck anyone tryin' to tell me anything!" Woah! What!? I chalked the outburst up to a long, hard days work. No big deal. He told me if I still had a problem then I should come back at 7am. I'm naturally an early riser, so sure, 7am it is. I went back and this guy begins to tell me that my problem isn't the clearly uneven cut, the problem was that I don't comb my hair properly. I argued that a good haircut doesn't require combing, and hair gel, and nails, and duct tape. A good cut just is a good cut. Little to no maintenance required. But no matter, I'm a man of reason, so I asked him to show me how I should be combing my hair so that the little sprout in the back stays down and the uneven leveling is tamed. So he picked up a comb and made an attempt to bring the sprout and make the levels look even. Needles to say he failed. I looked him in the eye (Bobby only has one) and asked him if he can say in good conscience that this is a good hair cut. He said yes and continued to ask me if I rest on my hair at night? Really? Do I put my head down when I sleep? Yes, Bobby, yes I do. Realizing the man is unreasonable and doesn't have the ability to admit mistakes I walked out of the shop. The worst part of this story was that every other barber in the shop just stood there while one of their coworkers berated someone and threw every excuse in the book at them for something that really isn't their fault. I didn't cut my hair like this, did I? And if the cut needs excessive maintenance (combing, gel, wave cap) then the barber isn't worth his fee. Im sure that Angelo and the barbers are excellent just based on the word on the street. Maybe try them. Im staying away from this shop for two reasons. 1) Customers should never have "fuck you" yelled at them. Even if it is quitting time and you had a bad day. 2) Barbers are fine with their shop being represented by a clearly incompetent individual and they'll support his work. Tl;dr Walked in. Got a shit cut. Went back to ask the barber who did the cut if he could fix his mistake. He literally told me to fuck off. But..thats just one guy and the shop is highly recommended. Give it a try.
