When I asked if walk-ins were accepted, I was told if I could return the following day and was simply turned away with a "sorry." I needed the service that day otherwise, I would have waited and gone to my regular barbershop. I chose this place based on proximity and Yelp ratings, but there was no real flexibility when it came to walk-ins. As a local resident, I decided to try a new shop closer to home. By 3 PM, all three barbers were already booked. While it's great for the business to be fully scheduled suggesting they must provide excellent cuts it was disappointing to be turned away at the time I arrived. Wishing them well in the future.

He got right to work on my hair cutting it the way my future wife watered it. Then he even upped the beer and made it blend in with the hair and cut it to the length she also required for it. Both of us were very happy with the results, and it was a decent amount for the whole shot. I'm Asian, and I'm not sure that this place knows very much about how Asian hair grows, and nonetheless even though my barber was super friendly, he still did the things I told him not to do. I came in on Friday night for a haircut since I wanted to try this place out after reading all the other reviews here, and let me preface this again by saying that my barber was really, really nice and welcoming. I didn't ask for much, just basically a trim up on the side and back, and to specifically NOT touch the hair on top or go past my side, since I've been growing out my hard part for about 5 months to get rid of it and have it be the same length as the rest of my top. I couldn't really see what was going on because my back was turned away from the mirror, but at the end, my barber did not listen to what I had asked and he cut the hair I've been growing out for 5 months, as well as trimmed some of the top and revealed my hard part again, which I was AVOIDING at all costs. Don't get me wrong - the barber was still super nice and even felt bad so he gave me the cut for free because he could tell I wasn't satisfied, and I'm not writing this review out of anger. It was probably never his intention to mess up my hair, but I was just really surprised to see he still did everything I specifically worried about him doing and even told him not to do. I didn't see the attention to detail that every other review raved about. And the fact of the matter is, this cut actually made me kinda depressed about myself, and really took a huge toll on my self confidence. Again, my barber was nice and he definitely seemed like he knew what he was talking about when he was also trying to give me tips, but please, listen to what your customer has to say and don't do what you THINK they want and ask questions if you're unsure. Also, learn the differences between Asian hair and Caucasian hair. You cannot apply the same rules to Asian hair as you do to Caucasian hair and ignoring their differences is super, super lazy and offensive. read more

I had an appointment yesterday with Marie to touch up my blue and pink hair, bleach my roots, and cut my hair. I have never had someone take so much care of my hair and me as much as she did! She was so great and fun to talk to, and the environment of the shop itself was extremely laid back and great. Not only did she have the colors I wanted, she had a variety of shades and brands to choose from! It's rare that any stylist has pink period... she had 3 ready for me to look at! Usually I get lectures or, at the very least, hesitation from stylists at past salons/shops. They always talk about "giving my hair a break," or trying something different that is "a little more simple." But to Marie, my blue and pink touch up, roots, and cut was simple enough! She even suggested adding some pretty panels of violet in between my pink and blue... and it just looks AWESOME! I am SO in love with it. Before my hair looked blocky and bulky... it was literally: Top layer blue, bottom layer pink, and although I loved the colors, the way it was done, just didn't quite flow right. But now it looks light, pretty, and the colors never blended together so well! If there was ever a way to make pink, purple and blue look "natural" she has found it! When I arrived at work this morning, my boss immediately said: "Whoever did your hair this time did a MUCH better job!" He's totally right! Marie was so enthusiastic, and kept saying that colors were her favorite thing to do and "I could color hair like this all day!" I didn't think I would ever hear a stylist say that in a million years... especially after the hours it takes to color my hair! Amazing! I will recommend her to everyone forever! Color = Amazing. PROS: I will say that the "barbers" are very skilled. These guys know what they're doing. If you get a seat, they will take ample time to make sure you walk out clean & cut. 35 minutes to shave a head...no joke. The barbers can probably bring in more business if they opened shop out of their own garage. CONS: Not geared for new customers. Horrendous walk in system. You MUST make an appointment. Walked in the other day and waited 2 hours and 15 minutes to get a haircut! I was greeted with a smile and was told that im 2nd in line. No problem right? Well after a few minutes customers start walking in and making appointments on the spot...for that hour! Basically if you knew a barber, then he would take you immediately bypassing anyone that was a walk-in. I understand the service and it's a courteous way to treat your loyal customer. But what about new customers? I am very pleased with the fade that I received, however I will not be returning and I strongly recommend that people do NOT visit Razorbacks. The place seems to focus way too much on the image rather than the actual service of the business. The ambiance has the old school Long Beach vibe to it; dark, tattoos, and of course with some attitude. The barber that is stationed back by the restroom gave me an evil stare down in which lead me to write this review. To the owner, you have very talented barbers. However your operation sucks. Have someone work the front desk efficiently. Have books and appointments ready to go and communicate clearly to new customers that walk-ins are not recommended. I cringe and roll my eyes at everyone saying that $30 plus what? a $5-$10 tip is overpriced. Most reviews say "love the cut but overpriced" um, you get what you pay for! Not only do barbers (and stylists) have to survive but their tools and continued education is crazy expensive!! Your barber is cutting your cheap hair with $200-$300 (probably more) worth of tools. So pipe down. I'm speaking from experience so maybe that's why I'm biased. Shoot. I was charging $60 for men's cuts!! So, If you're complaining about the price then go back to Great Clips or Fantastic Sams. Anyway, enough of my ranting. The first time my girlfriend suggested this place. I was so hesitant because it wasn't a "high end salon". As stated before I used to work in the industry so I'm very picky. Too picky. I felt awkward walking in the first time (even though I look like I can work there, haha) but as soon as I sat down I was cool. I guess I was more intimidated. Which sucks because I give off that vibe too. Haha. Lame, I know. My experience both times have been great! I mumbled how I wanted my hair cut and the barber seemed to know exactly what I meant. Uh huh, we'll see about that with Mr. Picky here. But sure enough both times he did exactly what I asked.... or mumbled. Seriously though, I'm glad my gf suggested this place. I recently visited Razorbacks Barber Shop and had the pleasure of getting my haircut by Alex Martinez. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed with the warm and friendly atmosphere of the shop. The staff were all welcoming and attentive, and it was clear that they take pride in providing top-notch service to their customers. Alex was my barber, and he did an absolutely fantastic job. He took the time to listen to my preferences and made sure that he understood exactly what I was looking for in a haircut. He was friendly and professional throughout the entire process, and I felt completely comfortable and relaxed in his chair. The end result was a perfect haircut that exceeded my expectations. When a friend told me that Pedro was back in Long Beach and had opened a new shop I was uber excited. I visited him for a haircut and brought my wife and mother with me. Pedro rocked my hair in a super fun, progressive style which I love! I am pretty easy when it comes to my hair but, still he made me feel pretty. Pedro also gave my mom a straight razor shave on her head and made her feel really comfortable to the point that she said she will come back to him. Johnny trimmed up my wife's mohawk with shears and then used a straight razor on the sides. Johnny is awesome as well...I usually keep up her coiff but, she said she will go back to see Johnny again at some point. All of these services were given at a reasonable price and we were even offered a cold drink. To make the whole experience even better the shop had Girl Scout cookies for sale! Although new to the neighborhood, the architecture and decor of this barbershop; gives a feeling of a by gone era. The Barbers are very friendly and are eager to make you feel welcome. Their are no "I'm too cool to speak to you" attitudes here. Here everyone is welcome and treated with respect and instantly become one of the family. Pedro is back in Long Beach! I'm a die-hard Syndicate fan, but when I couldn't make it to the shop in time the other day, I looked for another barber shop that might be open. Besides Hawleywoods, I already know they suck. Then I find out Razorbacks is the old Syndicate owner's new shop. Thanks Yelp! I live right across the street from RazorBacks. I have seen the work/clients that have come in and out and a few of them are my friends. I have always loved the barber - love the cuts. This afternoon my boyfriend and I went in to Razorbacks so he could get a hair cut. The entire staff was so friendly. We were immediately offered a nice cold beer. They fit me in right away, the place has a fantastic vibe, the people are all laid back and friendly, and Brad gave me the best cut of my life (with a hot foam shave touch up around the edges!) for half of what I'd pay out east. This place popped up and so I decided to go through with it. I was running about 10 minutes behind to my appointment and was trying to find a number to call but nothing was going through. I showed up and saw just PJ sitting waiting and I could tell he was a little annoyed that I was late at first so the vibes were interesting, but once I apologize and starting forcing conversation, he warmed up and we had some great conversations. He also spent a lot of time and attention to detail on my hair and I got exactly what I wanted which I appreciated. It is definitely on the higher-end price point-wise, but if you're looking for an extremely fresh looking cut, I would come back here for sure!
