I am at peace with the way they care for my mom. When I speak with their staff, they express so much care for her. I have been sick for almost two weeks recently and was unable to visit my mom. I felt assured that she will get great care and I can focus on getting well. Every staff from nurse, to CNA, to OTs and PTs, and Nursing Management, they know her and interact with her. My mother was transferred to Victorian Post Acute for rehabilitation after a serious fall and subsequent hospitalization. Due to an evening arrival and probably staffing shortage, we waited almost 2 hours for someone to come into her room. However, during mother's 2-week stay, we found most of the staff very caring. The day after mother's arrival, various key personnel came in her room to introduce themselves and assess her needs (rehab, nutrition, speech, programs, etc). The therapists were professional and patient, especially Ed (PT), Marcus (OT), and Kelly (OT). The nursing staff were also wonderful, although night-shift seemed understaffed and not available. A few deserve recognition as they consistently went out of their way to help: Kevin (LVN), Sharon (RNA), and Sunatcha (CNA). There is a monthly activity calendar full of events that stimulate physical movements (such as axing, balloon volley, etc) and social interactions (e.g. bingo, card games). Kudos to the activity director, Lorna, for the thoughtful planning! She is caring, creative, and energetic, and makes good efforts to engage everyone in group activities. The musical performances were a fabulous hit and enjoyed by all, even those who normally seemed "laid back"! Lorna's assistant, Nuutti, is also pleasant, patient, and helpful to the residents. No task seemed too small or bothersome to him! I have an aunt who lives in an "up-scale" assisted living facility in the area, but their activities are far less frequent and not as fun as those at Victorian! Another person who deserves acknowledgement is Yordanos at the front desk. She made sure, in a gentle way, that we followed proper check-in procedures to protect the residents. She was also very helpful and efficient in coordinating appointments for the residents. Last but not least, many thanks to the environmental service staff for a good job maintaining the facility clean. Although the building is aged and personal/bed space limited, Victorian Post Acute is a good rehab facility. Mother and I are forever grateful for the wonderful care at Victorian Post Acute! read more

Please, DO NOT send your loved one to this facility! Patients are neglected. Basic hygiene is neglected. Patients that physically can not feed themselves are left staring at their food. The time spent on physical therapy is minimal (7-10 min) and Drs/nurses are almost never available. I even wonder if their credentials are valid. During the first 3 days of visiting my loved one, I witnessed 2 mice scurry around the floor. When staff was notified, they said "we know" and nothing else was done. During these days, the same trash in the hallway and common area was still there. The place is filthy and unkept. On one of my visits, I was let in the front door by a woman staff member and was not asked who I was visiting or told that I needed to check my temperature or sign in the guest book. She left me to wander the facility looking for my loved one. I did not feel comfortable with this, I could have been someone that didn't belong there. Please, look past this facility when looking for care. Their website is nowhere near the reality of what goes here. read more

I have been to the Victorian Post Acute on several different occasions, each and every time I have been greeted by the front desk staff with a friendly respectful greeting. The Covid protocols are user friendly with temperature checks and self recording. The building is clean with friendly, happy staff. They gave horrible care to my mother with cancer! You walk in and it smells like feces. You call and it takes hours for the nurses aid to help. The professionals were nice but no help. After no help from staff she was sent to the hospital. She couldn't eat or drink and they wouldn't put her on an iv like I requested as power of attorney. read more

The space allotted to the patients is tiny. There doesn't appear to be any call buttons. There is no public handicapped bathroom for visitors. I have seen mice in the room. To enter the building, there is a locked gate, but no doorbell. The staff seem to be nice. There are better care facilities in San Francisco. read more

My very close friend was transferred here several days ago. I called the nurses' station over 8 times the next day and no one answered the phone, so I went to visit her. She was crammed in a room with three beds, the occupant of one who had talk radio blaring. She was so despondent at the situation that she didn't want to talk or have company. The hallways were cramped with people (staff and patients in wheelchairs) but there was no one available to talk to me about my friend's care or needs. I've called twice today and, again, no one answered at the nurses station. Who the heck is running this hell hole? read more

My brother spent 8 weeks recovering from spinal surgery. On the plus side some of their caregivers and outstanding and really genuinely care for their patients. The therapy and social services staff stand out. The aides who do a lot of the care are great. The Speech Therapists are absolute rock stars. However, their administrative/nursing communication is very poor. Incident #1: I discussed using their transport service for an appointment but when they called me to arrange it was too complicated (wrong times, etc) so I told them I would pick him up and take him myself. I arrived at the facility and looked all over for him. Finally, someone told me they had transport take him. Nobody told me. so I had to rush to the hospital to meet him. Sure enough he was doctor's office but all alone. Incident #2, today he had another doctor's appointment. I show up to pick him up, he's not dressed still in bed. "There's no note in the file" they said, although I told at least 2 staff members this was happening. Even though I told them he'd be out from 10-3 they scheduled transportation for 2pm to go somewhere else. Laurel and Hardy couldn't do it better. Incident #3, after today's doctor appointment I take him back to his room, get his lunch ready and leave. An hour later they call saying I needed to sign some papers and am I coming back? No, I'm not. You should have told me while I was there either when I picked him up or dropped him off or called me. They seem to excel at not telling you things beforehand, then calling in a panic afterwards when the sh&t hits the fan. Very frustrating and frankly amateurish. Too bad, because the facility is relatively clean, caregivers are caring and the food is OK. read more

I could rant and sound disgruntled but I'll try and keep it short. Staff called an ambulance for my grandmother because she couldn't breathe and then left her alone, unattended/not monitored. I walked in and found her in a panic gasping for air all alone. The paramedics arrived shortly after me. I asked thru text and email the admissions director Rocio Torres why was she left alone, what are the procedures... No reply. It's been almost two weeks. I emailed their main office and no reply. No one is holding a place like this accountable. On a previous day, they were gonna try and hold her down to give her medicine, luckily I was there and said no way. The admissions director present the whole time. If you can, keep your family out of this place. If you have no choice be watchful. read more

If I could give a negative amount of stars I would. Negative 5 or more! Please do not put a loved one under the care of this facility. The staff is there to work for a pay check doing the minimum work possible. The administration, managers and therapists will tell you what they should be doing, not what they are actually doing. Scan any paperwork and take pictures of medicine they are administering. Get records of any kind of tests they do. They will lose specimens in order to create a new fee or reason for a person to stay for insurance benefits. Do not trust the care they say they are providing. Therapy (ot, pt, speech) does not happen daily even though your insurance is most likely being charged. They are very unprofessional and not the caring establishment that they claim to be. The lobby area is gorgeous, but this facility is kind o hit-and-miss. A number of staff members were very friendly and helpful, and the therapy is both caring and useful. However, if you have inflated expectations about your stay, you'll be disappointed. 1. Phones. There's only one rotating wireless phone for the entire facility, which means you probably won't be able to contact a loved one easily. 2. Appearance. Some rooms look better than others, but some rooms (and nearly all of the basement, where the exercise sessions take place) are rather tired. 3. Variable rooms. Usually, there are about three beds per space - which is a reason why some patients may want to hang out at the public gathering place off the lobby. 4. Food. All of the food is prepared off-site, and the quality of the meals are around the standard of hospital food. That is, it's warm, for the most part nutritious, and below the standard of good hospital food. A patient will be happy to leave - which is the point, ultimately - and that's too bad. Maybe it's a fact of life with facilities like Victorian, I don't have a lot of affection for the place. read more

She listens! She is truly a good hearted person and so are the many staff members that work at this facility. I've already posted a review. I spent about 6 weeks as a patient there a couple of years ago. If Matt Russell is still the Administrator there I'll stand with my posted review. Matt is outstanding. He has a great amount of integrity and genuinely cares for each individual who comes there as a patient. It's a tough and trying thing to do-acute care. The staff was overworked and there were a few very difficult patients there,and of course pain and suffering with the rest, but there was a great attitude throughout amongst the caregivers and nurses. This place injured my father in-law after weeks of neglect. They then reported to his insurance that he wasn't making progress (due to the injury) so they kicked him out (probably a blessing in disguise). We learned that they were not giving him any water and the food was inedible. After they injured him he was unable to walk, so instead of helping him, they just started giving him muscle relaxants and made him stay in his bed. He ended up losing 20 pounds in the 3 weeks up to him getting kicked out. He ended up falling that evening, so we took him to the hospital. They ran a bunch of tests and said he was severely dehydrated and that his blood work showed that he had significant muscle loss while at the facility. We visited him daily and the place was always disgusting. Don't let their new architecture fool you. There was always urine on the floor from the person next to him, who was also completely neglected. We constantly had to get the nurses to give him water and they would, but only after they made as difficult as possible. This place is just terrible. Find somewhere else, anywhere else. read more

My grandma was admitted to Victorian Post Acute (VPA) in 2021. This review is based on my experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would have given Victorian Post Acute a 2 or 3 if something terrible didn't happen. I cannot recommend VPA after what I had to go through. Don't expect 5-star hotel experience at Victorian Post Acute. Being a nursing facility that accepts MediCal, you get service what the government pays for. My experience with VPA started very positive. I will say that the staffs were very friendly over the phone and in person. The staff did not give me any attitude. The staff members I talked to and saw in person were very patient and thorough. I spoke with the physical therapist over the phone and he was patient with my long answers and asked me a fair number of questions. Because of COVID-19, VPA did not allow any in person visit, but was willing to bring the patient to the lobby so my family and I could see my grandma behind the glass. My grandma had very bad hearing problem, did not speak English, and was too weak to hold her phone. The staff member was very patient and held my grandma's cell phone next to her ears the entire time. Unfortunately something terrible happened to my grandma while she was staying at VPA and she was sent back to the hospital and passed away at the hospital. My experience with VPA from then on got so bad that I thought it was very shady. The doctor at the hospital spoke with VPA to understand why my grandma was sent back to hospital for hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) from a nursing facility. What the doctor described to me made no sense. I wanted to find out about what happened through VPA. I reached out to VPA to figure out what happened and why my grandma was sent back to the hospital. I got a call from a lady at the Director level saying she will look into the event and get back to me. Nothing after that. I called the front desk and spoke with one of the nurses to understand the situation. She got defensive and gave me attitude problem saying she was not present at the time of the event and she's busy. I will say that I was not accusing VPA and just wanted to learn about what happened. I had my cousin emailing them requesting an answer about what happened and we got zero response. We felt that VPA was trying to dodge the question. We did not hear back from back from the lawyer representing VPA getting back to us approximately 2 weeks after our first inquiry. Although we decided not to take any legal action, I did not like the way VPA handled the situation. To put it simply, VPA should not have left me and my cousins hanging. There was no call back, or email response. My cousin and I had to actively reach out to VPA on multiple occasion to get answers. It was very frustrating to learn about your grandma getting sent back to hospital for low blood sugar from a nursing facility, and then getting unclear/unhelpful responses from the nursing facility about what happened. At least call me back, email us back, tell us to request medical record, or connect us with someone, something. My cousin and I did get to the bottom of what caused the hypoglycemia that sent my grandma back to the hospital. I am going to share it here. My grandma who is diabetic was given diabetic medication to control her blood glucose level. She was given her usual dose of diabetic medication despite her blood glucose level being in the lower end of the acceptable range, because there was no further guidance to stop. According to what I learned for the doctor at the hospital my grandma was sent to, low blood glucose is much worse to high blood glucose since the brain can be deprived of energy source in low blood glucose condition. I am no doctor and I think it's common that medication designed to reduce blood glucose is not necessary when someone is at the low end of the acceptable blood glucose range. As a continuous improvement opportunity, I would like VPA to review the medical records of their patients, train your staff, and evaluate whether or not medication can be paused, instead of feeding medications to their patients blindly without thinking about the consequence. When someone's blood glucose level is already low, you don't blindly feed them diabetic medication. read more

My grandmother has been to other rehabilitation facilities before and Victorian was one of the nicest. From the beginning staff was very friendly. Every time I visited her nurses were very helpful. Victorian post acute was clean and smelt great. The care that was provided was excellent and I loved how they took care of my mother. She was there for short term rehab and the rehab was incredible. She is now back at home and we're so happy. I have a 4 star review because we asked for a private room which they don't have. But they did move my mother into a semiprivate which worked out just fine because she made a new friend. They motivated each other for therapy. read more

This place struck me as below average of its kind. I didn't like the phone situation at all. The patients don't have individual phones. I was told by the front desk to call the nursing station because it had a portable phone that was passed around to patients to use. I was unable to reach my boyfriend at all using this means because no one ever answered the phone (I wonder if it was cleaned between purported uses?). Fortunately, a friend had an extra mobile phone she was able to loan him. Do they assume everyone has their own cell phone? They're wrong! read more

If I have a knee replacement on my other knee, I hope I rehabilitate at Victorian Post Acute. Almost a year ago I wrote a mixed review of the facility while I was a patient because a nurse practitioner failed to see me before the weekend as planned. Since then I have made an excellent recovery. I give much of the credit to the skilled and kind physical therapists at Victorian. The nurses and nursing assistants were excellent, but the social workers and discharge planners were overworked. Nonetheless, I was discharged on time and ready for further recover with physical therapy while independent at home. The location is excellent if some of your visitors come on public transportation. Again, for surgery on my other knee I hope to be a patient at Victorian Post Acute. read more

After several Skilled Nursing Facilities tours we chose Victorian Post Acute. This was my moms first time at a skilled nursing facility and this place was the right choice. Admission department explained how the insurance would work which was one less thing to worry about. Spoke to other staff members that continued to explain my moms progress throughout her stay. They happen to have live music on one of the days my mom was there which was nice to see patients enjoying the music. This place was very clean and smelled nice. If my mom ever needs a SNF again, I'll be taking her back here. read more

I've been staying here for 3 weeks, Most of the nurse aids are very helpful and patient. During the night, if you've urgent needs, it's next to impossible to get attention by pushing the call button. You can hear TV noises and people talking. B ut there was no one insight on the floor. It's scary to think one can have life threatening situations but being neglected. I suffered all night being awaken by nurse shouting at my roommate after midnight, Later I push my button trying to ask for sleeping aid without any response. No rest all night. Though I wasn't a patient here, my aunt was in their "care" for 10 weeks after a stroke. I visited on three separate occasions (as I live out of state). Below are a combination of my observations and what she told me: The food was horrible. It was always served cold and was ridiculously bland. Once, the other two people crammed into the room with her got dinner and she didn't. She rang the nurse, and when she got a tray 40 minutes later, it was ice cold. She asked if it could be heated up and was told no. My aunt was supposed to get a shower twice a week. First, that's ridiculous for a grown, senior, obese woman using a bedpan. Second, most weeks they were "too busy" or "short staffed" to give her a second shower. Being from out of state, but responsible for my aunt's care, I tried to work with the staff to understand progress, prognosis, and care needs. Often when I called, I'd get stuck in the Voicemail system because no one answered the phone. When I did get through, the receptionist would transfer me to someone, and the Voicemail would say it was someone else. I learned that no one updated their outbound messages - totally confusing and frustrating! I held durable Power of Attorney and was the first point of contact for my aunt's care. She fell during Occupational Therapy one day. No one called. I found out days later after a friend visited and my aunt told him. When I asked about it, they pointed fingers at each other and said they thought someone did call me. I was livid. When planning discharge, a week in advance, I requested a Friday or Saturday discharge. They told me they couldn't do that because "the one person who could do that" was off every Friday and Saturday. Are you kidding me? Only one person can process a discharge? What if she hits the lottery and quits? Having no back-up is the definition of incompetence in care. Then, still a week in advance of my aunt's discharge (as we moved it to Monday), I was assured by the Social Worker that transport would be arranged for first thing Monday morning. I was in town but had to leave the following day. I explained how important it was for me to spend some time with my aunt in her new Assisted Living apartment before I flew across the country. The social worker promised it would not be a problem and said she'd arrange it. I visited the facility on Saturday and no one could give me any discharge information. I started calling at 8 am Monday morning. I called Social Work, Therapy and ultimately the facility director. I left multiple urgent messages on voice mail and with the receptionist. No one ever called back, even when I said I was calling the County Ombudsman. Instead, I went to the facility, barged into someone's office and was told that transport hadn't even been called yet. They were "hoping to have her picked up at 3 pm." I told them that if she wasn't out of there by 3 pm, I was calling the police because they were holding her against her (and my) will. Transport picked her up just before 3 pm. My aunt was constantly vomiting after eating throughout her entire 10-week stay. Though we attributed it to the inedible food at first, we became concerned after a while. I specifically asked for her to see a doctor. They told me that the visiting doctor saw her and didn't see a problem. She told me no one ever saw her. She certainly wasn't taken anywhere for tests (upper GI, much??). The day after her discharge to an Assisted Living Facility, she continued vomiting and was dizzy. They took her the the ER from the Assisted Living Facility. She was in total kidney failure and dehydrated. The vomiting was a symptom of those issues. As a result, she spent 1 night in the new apartment, and then 2 weeks in the hospital, having dialysis daily. Now, she's in the midst of an extra 26 days in a different Skilled Nursing Facility, exhausting her Medicare benefits. My aunt is weaker now than just after she had her stroke. They left her in bed all day except for 30 minutes of therapy. They didn't get her up to shower, dress or use the toilet. They basically stuck her in a bed and forgot about her. She is lucky to be alive after her stay at Victorian Post Acute. I caution everyone to think twice about sending a loved one who needs a high amount of care here. read more

This is not an ideal place for your loved ones . I was there for 4 hours yesterday and saw things that We decided to take out father out of there. He was sitting in his pee for hours . I asked them to please change the sheets. Waited over hour and a half . I witnessed 2 elderly men fall on the floor . I saw pee in the room on the floor not cleaned up properly . There are 3 people to a room and 6 people share one bathroom which was dirty . Oy Vey! already. Bettie Davis's exclamation, "What a dump!" came to mind during my time spent in this facility recovering from ankle surgery. I mean no slight to them, but it seems culturally inspired and accepted that the predominantly Pilipino staff yells at each other most of the time. Still, they were very nice to me despite the din I experienced from the early hours of the morning and into the night. This gross disregard for my need for (any measure of) peace is my chief complaint along with the terrible food. It was never served hot and was barely warm all the time. There seemed to be great devotion heaped upon both issues to keep them lacking, too. Hell, the kitchen never gave us any choice but to use an artificial sweetener (Equal) that has been proven to be toxic when heated (as in hot tea). During my last week there, they gave me no other choice but cinnamon-flavored tea and no regular tea. I grew up in a handful of Catholic orphanages from the age of 3, where the food was precisely as offensively overcooked and ugly to the sight, smell, and taste. The vegetables were especially foul, misshapen, and appalling. It seems the chief rule in their kitchen management was "get the job done" and nothing more. Ever! It was never easy to overlook the fact of this because mealtime here, as in any prison was important, and varied my day. I'm certain that army chow puts shame to this slop. Packed 3 to a room, privacy was elusive and often malodorous. There was precious little ventilation there. The Occupational Therapist staff and the Physical Therapist staff were multitudinous blessings. They were flexible when I needed to need flexibility, too! The guy who supervised the activities was especially wonderful, generous, and gracious, too. I'm uncertain he enjoyed Bingo as much as I did though. I got through yet another hospitalization comparatively well because they utilized Turner Classic Movies in the TV lign-up of channel offerings. God, how I hate commercials! There is an awning-covered space for fresh air that I often retreated to with my iPad to play games and attend to my email. The nursing staff was wonderful in finding me there to administer medicine and insulin shots. There was a pathetic and embarrassing toilet seat on wheels that followed me up the public hallway when I was scheduled to shower. They thought I should sit on it when wet. Ugh! Still, the kindness and generosities from the staff were immense and at times unprecedented in my experience. I will not soon forget how much I appreciated having them in my life. read more

This place is DISGUSTING and terrible. I visited my grandma here multiple times in the course of 2-3 weeks here. This place is filthy and dirty. Everything here is either broken or doesn't work. The nurses here do not care about any of their patients and are overworked. The staff is very rude as well. They argue and yell at the patients and at family members as well. They don't care if the patients are suffering or in pain. When my grandma was here, she said that she would rather die than spend any more time at this horrific place. Every time I asked any of the staff anything regarding my grandma their only response is "I don't know". This place seriously needs to be inspected or shut down permanently. read more

The nurses weren't attentive at all. Expect them to come 30min-1hr after calling for them. It's like they are too bothered to be helping at all. The rooms were a cramped and hot mess. My father was transferred to Victorian post acute rehab after the surgery at CPMC. The inpatient medical staff provided excellent care and service for him.
