Went here over the weekend with some friends and had a fantastic experience! Our photographer was awesome and friendly and was a historian who gave us some great ideas. They also had great costumes and props. I'm a bit bigger and was a tad bit worried that the outfits wouldn't fit me but I had a gorgeous purple dress that fit great! Got our wet plate done September 30. Great experience! We reenact ACW, so I wore my own chemise & corset. Capt (promoted to Major for the photo) wore the Cav boots he'd literally just bought at Maryland Sutler. Otherwise they have tons of different outfits so you can become almost anything. It was my idea to go with the empty chair to honor our son Nicholas (1995-2014), also a reenactor. The owner was more than willing to accommodate any remembrance we wanted to place there. We also wore the little memorial ribbons friends made for his funeral (we all dressed period correct for it & the visitation). Watching the plate develop at the end was such a unique experience. We've had photos done over the years but this was the best one. Sooo glad we did this here. read more

We come every year to get a few pictures taken. I supply all my own uniforms, but when my wife indulges in my nerddom they have plenty of period clothing to choose from. They are great with kids and so patient. I have never had a bad picture taken here. I have only done wetplates and not the digital work, but their work all around is second to none. Just check out the images on this review and on their website, etc. Service is the best. If you aren't familiar with images of the era they will help you along with posing, uniforms/outfits, etc. If you are in Gettysburg, this is a must stop, there is no better way to document your trip to the historic town. read more

The person taking our photo was very kind and accommodating. I came with two people and we all were able to get everything we wanted in our allotted time slot. I cannot recommend this place enough! Every time we visit Gettysburg, we try and get a photo done here. Their website is super easy to make a reservation. There are a ton of time slots, but they do fill up quickly on busy weekends like this past one when there were re-enactments and it was a long holiday weekend so I recommend making a reservation. They always factor in dressing time so there's no need to show up early. Back in October 2021, we used their provided outfits and we were happy with the results. This time around, we decided to bring my boyfriend's West Point uniform since it's historically accurate and the staff at Victorian Photography Studio were more than accommodating. They recommended poses and tried to make it look as authentic as can be. They put me in their best ball gown and even did my hair up all accurate to the time period. I think the pictures turned out great! The prices for the prints are relatively affordable and they have all different packages which can be found on their website as well. I have never had a bad experience here and have always left more than satisfied! read more

You can't leave Gettysburg without this priceless souvenir! Be sure to reserve early as they are likely fully booked ALL.THE.TIME. We thoroughly enjoyed our appointment and are so grateful that they allowed us to bring our boxer along for the photo. We did the wet plate (why would you go digital here??) and she is actually mostly visible despite a blurry head from her movement. I was so impressed that they accommodated her which made me extremely happy. Now I will say, we consider our dog very well-behaved normally and it was a challenge to get her to relax in this environment, so if they allow yours and it is even a bit of a spaz I wouldn't even mess with it. I even made sure she had plenty of exercise that morning. I was impressed with Tish's clothing collection for women and am confident that she could outfit almost any size and shape. The women get dressed back in a private room and the men put the clothes right over their street wear. I had a cami on and that's what I'd advise you wear so you can just slip the clothes right over. This was a fantastic experience and Del and Tish are super nice. We plan to get a new photo every time we go! read more

Such an amazing experience! Ive wanted to have a tin type portrait made for a long time and what a better time to do so than Mother's Day weekend as my husband could not try to get out of it, lol. You honestly feel like you are stepping into another time when you put on those costumes! The lady that assisted in dressing my daughter and I was truly an expert in victorian styling and helped select the perfect attire. Dave took our pictures and educated us on the process of developing tin type exposures. I've always thought these old timey photos were kind of lame. My sister dragged me here on our trip to Gettysburg so we could get my niece's picture taken. I have to say, it was a blast! The lady who helped us was vey knowledgable about period attire and super friendly. The studio was nice and most importantly my niece loved it. The couple that runs this place is amazing! Whisked my husband and I upstairs and had me outfitted in a beautiful corseted dress in under ten minutes. The wife didn't trouble me about my size, just chose a perfect dress for my figure and suited me right up! They dressed my husband really quickly, even found a hat for his very large (and very handsome) head! I was worried I'd not be thrilled with the way I look in this and be nervous about showing it to friends but, even my self-loathing eye was pleased. My husband loved it and we both had a blast. The couple that runs this business has a fantastic demeanor and everyone running any sort of guest-oriented business could take a lesson! Went with my daughters in October just for a fun, but silly thing to do after our lunch at the Dobbin House. I wasn't taking it that seriously, thought it would be cheesy, but I was so wrong. Tish got us ready quickly, but with a good little history lesson on what different types of clothing you'd have worn back in the 19th century. She posed us and the first pic was great! I bought a small package of printed photos (done digitally, on the spot), for less than $40. The result was so realistic it was slightly creepy. AMAZING, entertaining, educational thing to do while in Gettysburg. A MUST! read more

We were taken through every part of the wet plate photography process which added to the experience. We were only in town for the day, so I was glad we were able to get in for a session. The owner and his wife were very personable, and professional. There was a great selection of clothes and we had plenty of help getting ready. The owners kids were in the shoppe that day, which was great since our little ones had fun playing with theirs, and their older daughter helped keep our little one smiling for the pictures. We LOVED our experience with this studio! We walked in and they immediately took us to the costume rooms upstairs. I picked "ball gown" and my husband picked "union soldier." They then proceeded to style us (including my hair, which took 30 seconds) and add accessories. We couldn't believe the transformation. It was really fun (and funny) to walk out and see my husband dressed up. And the picture turned out great! It took about 15-20 min and then we returned a half hour after our appt to pick up our photo. Highly recommend! read more

Traveled from Pittsburgh and stumbled across this shop while we were walking and we stopped inside to check it out and the owner and staff was so great and friendly! They stayed after hours to take us as his last appointment. He even told us the history and facts of how they took pictures in the 1800's. The pictures he creates are actually shot on an 1800's antique camera and the pictures come out SO great. He even gave us a frame to put it in. We will definitely be coming back for another session next time we visit! read more

We had heard about old time hoot places ripping people off and doing a bate and switch on price so we were on our guard when we went. We shouldn't have worried. Had an amazing time yesterday. The folks there couldn't have been nicer. They did an amazing job. We were a confused group of 6, two families. They figured it all out and got is all going and we lives the results. There is great selection of period costumes to choose from. The owner Tish dressed us, arranged our hair and added accessories of jewelry, fans and gloves.
