My husband and I found this venue shortly after we were engaged, we immediately fell in love with the big open barn, it was everything I wanted, and Jayne (the owner) seemed so sweet!
We booked the venue over a year before our wedding. Initially they told us we could have the DJ and bar wherever we wanted, and that we could have the big sliding barn doors open. 6 days before my wedding, at our final consultation, Stephanie (the coordinator) told us that the sliding barn doors could no longer be opened due to a "fire hazard law", this did not make sense to me, and my husband ended up questioning her about it and the truth came out--it was not a fire hazard law, it was because of noise complaints from the neighbors. Because of this, the DJ had to be in one designated area of the barn as well, and they installed speakers so THEY can control the volume of the DJ at the reception. The bar was also now in a fixed place out on the deck (which wasn't a big deal to us, but still not what we were originally told).
I understand wanting to keep your neighbors happy, but for me, the huge sliding barn doors and openness of the barn was one of the main reasons that we booked this venue! Finding out about this 6 days before my wedding day was devastating and very unprofessional on their part.
I did not appreciate being lied to when it came to the real reason the doors could not be opened. I had enough stress to deal with the week of my wedding, that I tried to put these things aside.
When the day of the wedding came, all I cared about was marrying my best friend, but at the reception we couldn't even hear our entrance music, the volume was so low that hardly anyone danced, and people ended up leaving fairly early.
Overall, it was still beautiful grounds, we were excited to have found the place, but I can honestly say that we were very disappointed. My husband and I worked so hard to pay for our own wedding, and being as young as we are, that wasn't easy. I think that we should have gotten everything that we signed up for, but so much had changed in that year since we booked the place.. It was so disappointing.
Another thing that was very unprofessional, which I never even mentioned to them, but I have the photos for proof, at our final consultation the Sunday before the wedding they allowed us to bring some decorations there that day ahead of time and put them in the one back room, a few days later I saw MY decorations put up different places in the background of a tea party that they had and posted photos of on their Facebook page.
So technically, when the day of my wedding came, my decorations were USED. And of course when I arrived for rehearsal that Friday, the decorations were back down and put away. This was very sneaky and out of line, if they wanted to use them they could have at least asked me.
Lastly, they brought strangers into the barn during my wedding reception and even had them eat some of the food from the caterer. My maid of honor and bridesmaids confronted the owner about this at the time and they said that it was a couple who was looking to get married there and that they thought it would be best for them to come during an actual wedding so they could see everything all decorated.
I am not a confrontational person and I like to keep peace, but I thought I would do my part in helping other brides have the day of their dreams that I wish I had, and give an honest review. I wish I would have done this sooner, I originally wrote this review to post on their Facebook page right after our wedding, but they do not allow reviews on Facebook, and I just now finally joined Yelp. read more
