This place has long been famous for their biscuits and breakfast offerings. They also are noted for doing a selection of nice plate lunch specials (meat and 2 vegetables) along with their regular offerings. They do stop serving breakfast at 10:30 so that's a bit of a transition time where breakfast is ending and lunch is starting. I'm all in favor of having lunch items at breakfast but they seem to be pretty strict about dividing up their menu. You can dine inside or use the drive through. It's definitely more of a causal fast food/diner place than anything else but it has a lot of Southern home cooking thrown into the mix to make it a bit more notable. read more

The biscuits are wonderful and the grits are good, but the fried eggs were inedible snd looked like plastic food models in a styrofoam cup. I don't enjoy food in styrofoam and it's hard to manage a breakfast bowl with bacon as it is served in plastic and no plastic knives are included with 'silverware'. The scrambled eggs were barely warm but the coffee was good. In a REAL cup, it would have been so much better. It's fast food ordering @ a counter for to-go and dine-in. Friendly service but I wouldn't return for anything but biscuits to-go. A photo of the 'fried eggs' would have been worth a thousand words but I didn't have my phone @ the time. Go for the blue plate special: $7.99 gets you all this: - a choice of meat (ribs, beef stroganoff, or chicken strips) - bread (BIG homemade biscuit, corn bread, or jalapeño cornbread) - two sides (8 options ranging from your classic green beans to your rarer cabbage and rutabaga) - one dessert (blueberry cobbler or delicious banana pudding). The menu is tough to read (blue plate special isn't listed, nor are the bread options), so you have to order off menu if you want this deal. Drinks are good and include sweet and unsweetened tea and coke products. Service is sweet, smiling, and southern. If not for the men's restroom, I'd give 5 stars. Stopped here while traveling on 59 in Mississippi. I had the pork cutlet biscuit and a side of tomato gravy. The biscuit was a little small but it was amazing. The pork cutlet was perfectly cooked. I can't wait to stop here again when traveling through the area. This was the first time I ever had tomato gravy and I was definitely impressed. We were headed to New Orleans for our vacation and found this place during a gas stop. Usually I depend upon Yelp! for recommendations but I took a chance on this unreviewed spot (and got the first review, woo hoo!). The place looked like a throwback to those 50's shops with hamburgers and ice cream done southern style. We got gas and then parked and prepared to be pleasantly surprised or let down, as the case may be. I was in the south so damnit i wanted some fried chicken! However I wasn't too hungry so I decided to just order the fried chicken sandwich. Then when I got up to order I panicked and thought of most chicken sandwich sizes and wondered if it'd be enough to hold me over till we got to eat again. So I also ordered the fried okra as well. Only in the south can they take something as wonderfully healthy and ruin it (or make it awesome depending upon your perspective of the moment) by deep frying it! My fiance ordered the steak sandwich with gravy and some onion rings. After a less-than-friendly (where's the southern charm??) cashier took our order we went to sit down and wait for our food. After a short wait of about 10 minutes (rendering this restaurant somewhere in the gray area between fast food and sit-down dining) our food was ready and we went and picked it up. I was immediately struck by how HUGE the chicken sandwich was. Any worries about it not being enough was replaced by worries I'd not be able to eat just the sandwich, let alone anything else. I forgot the golden rule that in the south everythings bigger and apparently that includes chicken sandwiches, LOL. My fiances steak with gravy didn't look all that great, pretty plain in fact but I later found out that was very deceiving. Sitting down I dug into the chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. Huge and meaty with a great deep fried taste, plenty of seasoned breading made for a delicious (and huge) sandwich which was a very nice way to re-introduce myself to the wonders of southern cooking. The bread was especially good, not sure if it was baked in-store or what but it kicked butt. My fried okra was also really good, and the order was huge, so huge we didn't even eat all of it despite our best efforts. My fiances steak sandwich with gravy was, as I said, not all that great to look at but it knocked it out of the park when you actually ate it. The meat was fantastic and the gravy just took it to that next level. I couldn't even decide which was better, my chicken sandwich or her sandwich...they were both incredibly good! I'm happy to say my first experience heading out on this vacation was a great one. I'd give this place 5 stars for the food and 3 stars for the friendliness. If the people who worked here showed a bit of a smile and welcoming this place could move up to a solid 5 star and go on my wall of fame. As it is though, you can't beat the eats here...and I'd highly recommend it if you're on the road and looking for a good sandwich! read more

NEVER, was I told the secret to a southern meal is to stick with lard, flour and salt, lots of salt only. We are from Oregon and wanted to try some good southern cooking. Found it here. They have individual meals but we had the buffet. ALL of it was really good. Our choices were Corn bread, pork gravy, white gravy, dressing, sweet potatoes, corn, and huge pieces of fried chicken. 2 large drinks. We had to take some chicken with us we were so full. Good location for travelers, right off I-59. We had Jr. burgers, fries, onion rings, fried okra and corn nuggets. the Jr burgers were pretty good if you don't want a large portion of meat. There was also a buffet that looked pretty good with home cooked items. They serve Community Coffee, which is not easy to find outside of Louisiana. The service was fair. The people were friendly but there were a few small mistakes. They made the effort to correct the order. They had a clean, comfortable atmosphere and clean bathrooms. Vic's let down customers on Wednesday before Thanksgiving when over 30 customers had to wait 3 hours to pick up holiday catering orders. Vic's provided customers designated pickup times but the thanksgiving meals were not prepared until the customer arrived. Can u imagine waiting hours for your preordered/prepaid turkey, dressing and casseroles to be prepared and baked while u wait? CrAzy! Vic's Would not refund our prepaid orders either because the order was placed over the phone and we did not have an itemized receipt. Good food but not worth the bad service. read more

Stopped by Vic's on a trip from B'ham to NOLA. Now I have to confess, I was pretty hungry when I hit Laurel, and that may make me a little biased, but this place was amazingly good! I had the blue plate special. The chicken tenders were right out of the fryer, the portions were generous and the sweet potato casserole... my gosh... I could've eaten it for dessert. And the jalapeño cornbread... So good! Not the place to go if you're trying to cut calories, but if you need a fix of southern meat & 3 and you find yourself cruising down I59 anywhere near Laurel, do yourself a favor & visit Vic's. We had been driving a while and decided it was time to stop and eat lunch, especially since neither of us had eaten breakfast. I did a search on Google for places to eat in Laurel, Ms. as that was the next town. Vic's was #3 in line and had 5 stars. It sounded good so we decided to stop. The parking lot was full of cars so we were assuming something had to be good. Well we were blown away. My husband had the fried fish with 2 sides, bread and peach cobbler. I had two chicken tenders, 2 sides, bread and instead of dessert I got potato salad. OMG it was delicious, tasted like Grandma used to make. The batter on the fish and the chicken had such a good flavor and balance of seasonings. The fish pieces were more fish than batter, the chicken strips were Huge. I had green beans and macaroni & cheese and they both were very well seasoned. My husband had the turnip greens and Mac & cheese which were also delicious. We both had a piece of jalapeño cornbread that was very good. The potato salad had pickles in it and was delicious. My husband said the peach cobbler was like Mom makes. Oh and by the way, you can't get all that for $15.00 (including tax) anywhere else. The service was wonderful, the ladies engaged us in conversation and wished us a safe trip when we left. This place was amazing. Right there at the end of the off ramp and on a whim we stopped for breakfast. The steak biscuit was to die for and their breakfast bowl with grits was perfect! We eat there everyday Monday through Friday and sometimes on the weekends. That should tell you all you need to know! We would not eat there everyday if it wasn't good home cooking. They have fried pork chops, country fried steak, fried chicken tenders, chicken spaghetti, ribs, fried catfish, beef tips over rice, spaghetti, beef stroganoff, corn, rice and gravy, creamed potatoes, dressing, green beans, field peas, butter beans, fried okra, rutabagas, Brussels sprouts, turnip greens, broccoli salad, cucumber and tomato salad, macaroni and cheese. They do not have all of that every day. Everyday you have a choice of one of the three meats they fix that day and two vegetables or three vegetables if you do not get a dessert. One of the meats will always be fried chicken tenders. If you need grilled chicken, they will fix it for you. They have sweet tea, unsweet tea and fountain drinks. They are open until 3, but only serve the buffet until 2. They have fabulous onion rings, tator tots or fries, hamburgers, club sandwiches, hamburger steak. If you are into this kind of food, it is the place for you. It is not far off the highway if you are passing through on Interstate 20. On Saturdays they do not offer the buffet, but have the good burgers and such. Happy read more
