I used to work there as a hostess and one night when we were cleaning to close an employee found live slugs in the drink machine. I immediately went to my manager to let her know and she bursted out in LAUGHTER saying "this happens all the time matter of fact there's been maggots, roaches, snakes, fruit flies, and etc. in this kitchen." She did absolutely nothing about it except remove them from the machine. To me this was a slap in the face cause I had family and friends coming to this EXPENSIVE restaurant to eat and drink. It's also policy that employees were completely prohibited from bringing outside food so if we wanted to eat we were MADE to buy food from there unless you snuck your own food in. People are also blowing vape and weed pen smoke all over your food because they didn't care. I used to be made fun of by employees for changing out the table cleaning solution frequently because "it's not that big of a deal no one cares." Also if you know someone that works at Applebees and yall are enemies THEY WILL MESS WITH YOUR FOOD. A group of employees laughed and gossiped about how someone they didn't like came in so they told the cooks to over season their food and spit in it. It's been months since I've quit and driving by seeing a full parking lot of people eating contaminated food makes me sick. I don't know why I expected more, but I was sorely disappointed. I ordered boneless wings, two kids' meals, and a salad. The two tables on either side of me had their food come out first. I was at least expecting the boneless wings so the kids wouldn't have to starve until their meals came. They ordered pizza and a burger. When the food finally came. The lettuce was wilted and severely bruised. Can I not get fresh lettuce for a salad? The pizza had lots of cheese on one side. And hardly any on the other. The server was nice but inattentive. I had to flag her down for straws, get my own napkins, and ask for a spoon for the side of applesauce. This was on a Wednesday around 2:30 pm. There were only 3 tables in the section. This afternoon, we chose Applebee's in Laurel, Ms to celebrate my birthday. I went recently and was highly disappointed in their newest chicken strips, I liked the old ones, these tasted like I could bought them at Walmart. But I gave it another try today and ordered ribs. First of all, the waitress was horrible! The ribs were terribly DRY. I think she gave me the wrong BBQ sauce. The lettuce in the salad was all hard leaves, not tender at all. We had to ask for a refill. Once our food came, we didn't see her again, but I finally saw her with her back to us talking, and it was some time before we got her attention. She barely spoke at all, until we were leaving. She seemed uncaring, certainly didnt give good service, and seriously didn't say a word to us, other than when we left, she said have a nice day. We tried to remain nice. I could have asked for a manager, but what good would that do? The date was already done! And I regretted spending my birthday there! I don't think we'll be back. We've always loved the spinich artichoke dip and the blondie. But the food today was just not good, certainly not worth over $55.00 and leaving unhappy. The waitress needs training!!!!! Not the same Applebee's that I stop going to for years in Laurel. Everything rises and falls on leadership and Applebees must have finally put a few great leaders in place because for the last several months they have been exceptional. The wait staff has been exceptional. The food has been exceptional. Their cleaning and sanitation protocols have been on point (I watch- when others leave). Even their car side & delivery has been on point. I might have given them 5 stars except the music is too loud but some people like it. At least they refrain from playing vulgar music like so many other bar/ grill establishments so it's still a go to for me for a business lunch with a couple half healthy options I appreciate. 06.05.17 Day 2 in Laurel, MS. I was hoping I won't be eating at a restaurant chain but then again boyfriend's dad asked for Applebee's. Applebee's it is. I just love the southern greeting "how y'all doin' tonight" with a smile. When hostess and server starts that way, it's going to be a good meal for me, haha! We started off with their Chicken Quesadilla at half price being happy hour. Then boyfriend and I did the 2 for $20 meal wherein we got the Mozzarella sticks as (another) appetizer. Now the sticks came out first before the chicken quesadilla. Both were oily, tasted ok, and nothing special about it. Boyfriend had The American Standard (cheeseburger) and I had the Fried Chicken Tenders. Both came with fries. It was better than fair we think. I eat at all different places and have had all kinds of service. Today in Laurel, MS. , I ate lunch at Applebee's and Laurel was my waitress. I could tell from when I first was seated, that the waitress was having a tough day. Laurel came and took my drink order and told me they were shorthanded , and ask that , "I be patient ". Honest review from a local....it has always been hit or miss. The hit is when corporate sends in managers or when it is considered a "training" restaurant, otherwise it's a miss. It's sad because we are not hitting on much in the town when it comes to dining options and they really could stand out with a little bit of management. Not too good, and not too bad, but if you show up piss drunk, it's realllllll effin goodddd!!!!!! Hop on up to a seat at the bar, order you a tall cold beer and the sampler appetizer and yo ass will be ready to go! Recently stopped in and had a hell of a time! Beef nachos left me asking where's the beef? I like going there and sit at the bar after work on Saturday afternoon.

Applebee's is not my favorite but we did pop in here for lunch one Sunday. We ordered the sampler platter and drinks. The drinks are highly overpriced for what you get ( that should say "or what you DON'T get") Either way there was nothing special about this Applebee's. I don't plan on visiting again. It's just a personal preference for me. The service was fine. The food was hot. The restaurant wasn't dirty. I would recommend it if you're an Applebee's fan. I just think due to the prices of the drinks I'm not going back. If I do find myself back there again I will NOT order an alcoholic drink. Where's the alcohol? Yes, found myself eating here again. I am not a fan of Applebee's in general. Really, the only time I eat at one is in Laurel because there is such a distinct lack of other restaurants. There have been some trips where I've eaten here every night. But, my advice is go somewhere else if you can. Even one of the multitude of fast food joints on the same street. Hey, I think there's a Sonic right next door. Go there. The food was utterly forgettable. I ordered the steak and shrimp off the low calorie menu. There wasn't anything distinctly wrong with it, but it was an odd combination that lacked flavor and wasn't satisfying. The service was horrible. I was alone on business, so asked for a table for 1. Where do they put me? Right next to the front door, next to the host/hostess stand where multiple employees congregated throughout my meal, and next to a table full of employees on a break or just leaving their shift. With all the employees in the building you think my service would be fantastic, yet I was mostly ignored or bumped into. My actual server was friendly enough, but it did not make up for the whole miserable experience. Trust me, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Sonic, anything will be better than this Applebee's. read more

This afternoon I have had, what will be my last visit to this establishment. Why you ask? Well, it's convenient to my home, clean, the staff in the front is courteous, and friendly. The beer is nice and cold. Service is prompt. So, what's wrong? I have, as an "experiment" over the past several months, had a meal there on Saturday or Sunday (sometimes both) always the same order. Somtimes it's been great! Cooked exactly as I ordered it, but in the main the opposite has been true but today (Saturday April 2, 2022 check#9130-1029020 5:16pm) it was the worst! I ordered medium it came out RARE (I could almost hear it moo!) And tough, I could barely cut it with the knife! One slice (Chunk) was so tough I had to spit it back out, it was fatty grisle! I can't cope with the lack of control in the Kitchen, I can tolerate some of the other things barely (Rap "music" blaring at a level it makes conversation difficult for example) but I will NOT spend my limited budget on "food" I cannot consume and enjoy! Went to this Applebee's last night and had a party of 9. Was told they could not sit a large party for 30-40 min. We said ok, how about we split up and put us at those two tables over there. (They were steady busy, but They had several open tables and no one else was waiting to be seated) They then proceeded to tell us that they could not sit more than 4 people to a table. So we then said, ok can we spilt up into three tables and sit at those three tables over there. The hostess said No. The manager told us not to sit any large parties for 30-40 minutes. I said if we split up we are not a large party. She said the manager said no. I ask to speak to mgr, hostess went to talk to him and came back and didn't say a word. We had an awesome waiter and that is where the good stuff ended. They were out of baked potatoes so we had to settle for mashed potatoes at the last minute. My son waited for his food because they messed up his order so he didn't eat until the rest of the family had already finished. My daughter was served expired chocolate milk that had curdled (she didn't notice until she had taken a big drink). Waited 10 minutes and still not 1 waitstaff had even come to our table. We didn't even have water! The girl that had seated us walked by and I asked her if we could get someone to help us. Sunday lunch - we had only three people at our table. We waited about 20 minutes for appetizers - then an hour for food. Only two of us received our order. When two were halfway finished eating were told the server forgot to put order in for our third person. Thirty minutes later were told they were working on it. We finally told them to bring our ticket - she asked for if we wanted the food to go - we declined and left after paying our $30 bill for the two meals we received. Well, we came in, it was packed and we were told it would be a 25 minute wait for a table. It was maybe 6:30 and we wanted to go home, so we asked to order a take out. Applebee's is a name that I absolutely adored...until tonight. I never thought that the food was that great, but their love and admiration for America's brave Sons and Daughters always held a special place in my heart. My wife and I walked in and waited for fifteen minutes. In that fifteen minutes, several Applebee's employees, to include a manager, either walked past us several times or eerily stared at us. The worst part was that none of the employees even uttered a word to us. As we were walking back to our car, an employee by the name of Christina, who was working on the opposite side of the entrance, asked us to come back and she gave us 5 star service. We thought things were turning around, but we were wrong. One employee almost slammed a chair that she was returning to our table into my wife. Her extremely dangerous act was only topped by her apathetic attitude. She never apologized. Even though Christina's service was phenomenal, our overall experience was horrible. This was quite possibly the worst dining (if one can call it that) experience of my life. The restaurant gives new lows to the serving and preparation of meals. We were staying across the street so it seemed easy - little did we know that our "waitress" after having ample time (long enough for all the beverages on the table to be dry) and with the assistance of most other waitresses on staff came back and proudly announced our order was in. We should have gone then but low blood sugar threw off our good judgement. When the food was placed on the table all three burgers were burnt beyond recognition and my wife's small steak and wedge salad well was so remarkable i actually took a picture. I have seen small chicken tenders larger than the steak - the onion slice was larger. But then the color - while our burgers were burnt, the steak took on a raisanish quality. It was petrified, black, and lifeless on the plate. We found the spinach under the onion and it looked worse than a bagged salad sitting on the beach for a week. Needless to say, we will not go back. Truly I wish i could put a warning label on the front sign. This "restaurant" brings for me a whole new low to dining. The regrettable thing is that the people around us were expereincing problems equally except for one large table that knew the waitress - but their speedy service still only resulted in the most unappetizing of presentations. read more
