The rice came with brown gravy, which I wasn't informed about. I had wanted white gravy, so I mixed the brown in and added the white on top. After that, I couldn't taste the brown gravy at all. The salad was a generous size, and the dressing was delicious. I thought sitting at a commissary-style table might feel odd, but it was actually fine. I would definitely recommend eating here while visiting downtown Laurel.

Since then Wilson's Commissary has moved to a larger location and the food has improved. I do find myself often disappointed by the standard lunch menu while on the occassions they offer one of their meat pies or seafood pies as a special I'm VERY happy with those! The night menu has a couple of items that I really like and I prefer them over the usual lunch menu they offer. The service is generally adequate but it sometimes can take way too long to get a drink refill or order a beer when this place gets busy. The ambiance is very cutesy wootsy and both tourists and locals seem to like it. This is also quite a popular venue to watch college sports. When they first started bingo here it was sort of interesting and a tad fun but now that has gotten so out of control crowded that I avoid it as it really has just gotten miserably overcrowded. They only have two bathrooms here which are are not gender specific and during crowded times at least one of the toilets seems to gets clogged up and that bathroom is no longer functional. They sometimes offer live music here and other events in the evening. I'm so used to New Orleans hours the attempts at nightlife this place makes just don't work for me as they close waaaaay too early for me! Overall this is one of the VERY few venues left in Laurel, MS doing any kind of evening activities and they are one of two meat and three joints you can eat lunch at downtown with Pearl's Diner being the other option. If you manage your expectations to adjust to small town Home Town Laurel, MS you can still certainly pass a good time here.

Around lunchtime they serve plate lunches from their special of the day or your choice of menu items. I've been here a couple of times and they really represent country love in their food #soulfood. On my last visit I was also a bit grumpy over the fact they were out of lemons for my iced tea. As this is about the only venue in the area quite a few local characters frequent this establishment.
