First, I had used Mr. Vickers 12 years ago, when I moved to my current place. It was an awesome experience. When I told him his verbal 5-figure quote for my move was "horrifying," I asked for the price of just a pack & load. I believe he was upset about a number of things, primarily the undocumented quote rejection combined with the reduced scope of work. I also noticed he didn't listen well about needed to coordinate with my driver. I said the 7th was the move date. Several times. When I call him late last week to firm up times, payment, (cash or credit card + 4%,) my first call to him lasted 1 minute, according to Verizon. I've attached a record of the call sequence. He was very abrupt during the first call. He was on vacation and he didn't need me calling him. He did offer to call me back. He did. The first call back was 2 minutes later. The last two calls were in such close proximity to one another we must have been disconnected. While I can't prove a thing, I've had plenty of experiences talking with folks who had been drinking for a while. Personally, I'd classify our last telephone conversation as a drunken rant. Not a full-blown, nighttime "where's all the scotch?" drunkenness. He seemed to have a lesser load on. He was just obnoxious and his attitude came across that I was lucky to him consider taking my money. Last communication from Mr. Vickers that he was busy on Aug. 8-10, and, he was unable to do my move on the 9th. We never discussed the 9th. 1. When a quote/proposal to provide services is provided, a professional will provide a detailed document showing where my money is being spent. That never happened. 2. Alan Vickers...... The man will show up on the first day and charge you $500 for his presence while he scopes out your valuables. He will find a way to slow down the moving process. Alan sent his team out for a 2 hour lunch, I still got billed for those 2 hours. Alan wanted to train skilled employees while on the clock, and deliberately told his employees to close up truck number 1 and deliver it half empty because it was getting late (it was 5:30 in the evening)!!! The truck didn't arrive to my new house until 8pm!!! This was the opportunity Alan took to seize my valuables on truck number 2 and basically held my belongings for ransom!! Where I had to pay an additional $1500 to my $5000 bill, not to mention $1000 for boxes and packing material. My entire bill came out to over $8000 for a 3 bedroom townhouse!!! Alan also refused to compensate for damages made to my belongings! His team is fantastic, I wish I could say the same about Alan. Where to start well I don't like giving reviews that are bad to anybody because I am also a business owner and I do what I can to fix issues for clients if they're not happy with me and I'll make sure they're happy. Mr. Alan Vickers what can I say or should I say when can I stop?? I cannot believe how this man is such two-faced crook. He is the most unorganized unethical moving company I have seen in my existence of 40 years in Houston Texas. he did not give me a pre-move price so I gave him benefit of the doubt (as he was nice to me at the beginning) ... I got prices from allied vans, Mayflower moving company, three men and a truck, etc ... Everybody quoted me $4000 - $5000 maximum price. Mr. Vickers decided to charge me $1,000 the first day, 5700 the second day for 13 hours and 5 hours of labor which is closer another thousand dollars for the third day when he should have finished a job in two days. I paid a total of $8,060 to move a three-bedroom for story town-home that occupies two adults and one child. The son of a b**** even held my furniture hostage until he went and cashed the check at the bank. Let me tell you something karma is a b****. He has our furniture in two trucks and one truck in his possession because he planned it that way! He had a plan to screw me from the get go. NO APOLOGIES AT ALL EITHER! All the people online that are making five star reviews have either been moved from small places or less that 10 mile moves for the most part. He damaged my furniture and doesn't even want to acknowledge it. State of Texas has bonds the moving companies have to put up I am going to claim it on his bond he is a very dishonest gentleman highly warn people to not use his services his employees are fantastic they knew exactly what was happening but they can't say a single word because they got to feed their families. The workers even were upset, but afraid to say anything. In my 40 years of being a business I've never written a bad review about another business but this is absolute highway robbery and it is not right and people need to understand what kind of a crook this man is. Do these guys need another positive review? This was such a stressful time for me but the minute the crew showed up, I knew the day would go smooth. They are the consummate professionals. They moved from sun up and way past sun down and their great attitude and energy level seriously never changed. There are movers and there are professionals who have it down to a science. I asked for a quote for packing and loading of a POD for a cross-country trip. The owner, Alan, was very prompt in corresponding via email, but when I questioned the necessity of 50-60 furniture pads at $20/ea for a 2-br he immediately rejected the entire job. I did not say I would not buy the pads, only questioned the need for so many since it would cost as much as transporting the POD (~$1200). It was a strange interaction, and I'm surprised a small business is not more open to answer questions and give the customer time to understand and agree to the terms. I'm sure they are a good company based on reviews and clearly he has high standards to protect his employees and business, but be sure you are clear and do not comment or question the information he gives you or you will be declined. read more

Fast, helpful and friendly moving crew and I expect my things to get to where I need them to go without incident. We had such a perfect (yes perfect) moving experience with Alan and company. We did not have an easy job for them and they never showed frustration and were extremely professional throughout the entire process. The pricing was very comparable to other companies - and the previous reviews don't lie, this is the best of the best in Houston moving. Our move consisted of three stops and multiple swaps of very antique, delicate furniture - and they never missed a step and were full speed (in 90 degree weather) the entire TEN hour move. They took care of our furniture (wrapping, pads, etc.) better than we could have imagined. They showed up on time and followed all directions with a smile - which with my family is difficult. They did not over charge for anything or try to add extra charges along the way. They used the exact amount of materials required and didn't up charge or try to sell anything unnecessary. Two flat screen smart TVs, glass coffee tables, antique china cabinets, antique kitchen hutch, mirrors from early 1900s and much, much more - all moved included with the hourly charge plus the materials they used. In the end with over 25 pieces of furniture wrapped, padded and delivered perfectly - all materials cost $75. The end price was exactly what Alan quoted me when we arranged the move. It was a hectic move as my husband was out of town all week and I didn't have time to perfectly pack everything. No worries - the crew brought in wardrobe boxes that made moving the contents of our closets a snap and even disassembled the larger furniture items (beds and dressers) before wrapping everything and loading it into the truck. When we got to the new place, they asked me where I wanted things and put them in place. They put the furniture back together. They put down mats to keep from tracking dirt into the house. They removed all the shrink wrap from the furniture. They were quick and efficient. Ultimately, if my husband and I were to have tried this alone, it would have taken us much much longer, probably several days. We would have had to rent a truck and probably taken off of work. Sounds simple, but I needed them moved up a very tiny, narrow stairway in a historic Heights home. After scouring the Internet, I decided to book with Vicker's Moving because several reviews mentioned them coming through on tough jobs like getting furniture over a balcony, etc. From my first phone call to end of my move, I was very impressed with Vicker's Moving. They showed up early the morning of my move, and were very friendly and patient. When it came time to move my largest desk in, it wouldn't fit up the stairs so the owner ended up coming out himself to assess the situation. They had to come back later that night with more people, but 2 hours, many ropes and 8 movers later my desk was literally hoisted vertically through the stairwell. It was a sight to behold! All in all, I had a great experience and would not hesitate to recommend Vickers. We just used Vickers Moving again (see review in August for the move of our daughter to her first apartment). I wish I could give them a ten star rating because that's what they deserve! I believe this is the 6th move we've done with Alan (house moves, office moves, moving kids to apartments) and they have consistently done an outstanding job even with our more challenging moves. This most recent move was a long distance house move and included moving numerous boxes of fragile crystal and china as well as some very delicate pieces of furniture. Not a single broken, scratched or damaged item. As usual, the team was professional, conscientious and great at their job. They don't mess around or drag their feet - there is no such thing as down time. I didn't check rates or get any other estimates so I can't specifically comment about rates, but the total cost was absolutely fair and reasonable. Also, I've learned the hard way that it can cost a lot more to have bad or slow movers. A special shoutout to Gonzolo, Alex and Brandon. I hired Alan Vickers Moving Service to move our HEAVY concrete table and benches from our old backyard to our new one. They were able to fit us in within a few days, and it only took an hour! Sarah helped set everything up on the phone and the crew she sent over worked fast to get all the pieces into the truck and over to the new place in record time. Their hourly rate is a little higher than other companies, but there was no minimum time charge, no trip fee, and it didn't matter what day we scheduled for, so it ended up costing less! Here is my experience with them: they show up at the house and presuade us to have them do everything and tell us all we have to do is sit on the couch till the job is done. Reality: they broke my dining room table and denied that they had done it. Every time I asked him to put an item on this truck, he'd look at it and say "you need to put that in your own truck." After the move, I call him to ask where my glass etagere is. The answer? "I left it in your old house. It was made of glass."
