I left this studio shaking after giving this place my business weekly for months. I walked in today and was told by the woman at the front desk that the last time I came, I had rushed out with a pair of their ankle weights.
I had been renting their weights for weeks but had purchased my own pair a couple months ago, so I showed her my own weights and said that perhaps they had confused mine with theirs. She immediately told me that she saw me run out with their weights. I asked if she could check the cameras, and she told me that the footage "regenerates," while continuing to insist that I had left with their property.
At this point I was extremely uncomfortable. I had been coming here regularly but hadn't been in for a while because of school and travel, which she also brought up in a way that made me feel as though my absence was being used to further suggest that I had stolen the weights.
I explained that I did not have their weights and that even if I had somehow accidentally walked out with them, I would have known because I would have had them in my possession and would have immediately returned them. I asked to cancel my class because I was uncomfortable, hurt, and offended by the way I was being treated. I felt that the interaction was racially motivated and that I was being treated with an unacceptable level of suspicion and contempt.
Instead of trying to resolve the situation, I was told that if I was uncomfortable "there's the door" and yelled at to leave. The employee followed me to the door and slammed it shut in my face, ripping it out of my hand.
I have never been treated this way by a business, especially one I had regularly supported for months. I will not be returning. I hope management takes this type of behavior from its employees seriously. It was incredibly unprofessional, hurtful, and completely unacceptable read more
