ONE STAR - Canceled on very late notice, left me stranded without movers the afternoon before house…read moreclosing.
I hired this company through U-Haul's Moving Help service because its pricing was reasonable. Before booking, I called to confirm that the movers could work within a specific afternoon window. The owner assured me they could and said he would call the day before to finalize the schedule.
During that conversation, he also suggested I bypass U-Haul and book directly with him--not because he was offering me a discount, but because he wanted to avoid paying U-Haul/Moving Help its commission. I declined, thinking that booking through the platform would offer some protection. Unfortunately, it didn't.
He never called the day before as promised. On moving day, I called him while picking up the truck I had rented to take my furniture and belongings to donation. Only then did he tell me he wasn't sure he could do the job because he didn't have enough workers. He said he was trying to find people. I assumed a professional moving company would understand the gravity of the situation and find a way to honor its commitment.
I was wrong.
Later that afternoon, he informed me that he couldn't provide the movers. I was closing on the sale of my house the following morning. I had an entire house to empty, a rented truck, and virtually no time to find replacement help.
When I told him he couldn't simply abandon a customer on moving day, he launched into lengthy explanations about his staffing problems. At that point, I didn't have the luxury of listening to excuses. I needed movers. He mentioned that one worker didn't have transportation, so I asked where the worker was, thinking perhaps I could pick him up myself. Instead of appreciating that I was desperately trying to salvage the situation, the owner snapped and began yelling at me.
Neither this company nor U-Haul/Moving Help made any effort to find me replacement movers or otherwise resolve the emergency.
The consequences were devastating. I spent hours on the phone frantically searching for movers who could come out immediately, ultimately paying roughly three times the original price for last-minute help. I had to rent a dumpster and throw away expensive furniture and decor that I had intended to donate. I was forced to leave belongings behind, including my cable router, because I simply ran out of time. The buyers then demanded a $2,000 concession for the inconvenience.
All of this happened because a moving company accepted a job it could not fulfill, failed to communicate that problem in time for me to make other arrangements, and then treated me with hostility when I tried to find a solution.
I also find it troubling that the company now appears to have only one review, and it's glowing. I can only speak to my own experience, but it was the complete opposite.
This wasn't merely poor service. It was a staggering lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic human decency. Moving is stressful enough without a company abandoning its commitments at the last possible moment. The financial consequences were substantial, but what I find most disturbing is the utter disregard for the situation in which this company knowingly left me.
I would strongly caution anyone against trusting this company with a time-sensitive move.
